Consequently, literary classics are likely to be read more widely than ever before: 72 percent of those responding to a recent online survey said they would read books in electronic form, and 81 percent said they believed that reading classic works was important. No one can get any freedom, if everyone can do whatever they want regardless of the impact on others.2. “It is unrealistic to expect individual nations to make, independently, the sacrifices necessary to conserve energy. In ternational leadership and worldwide cooperation are essential if we expect to protect the world‟s energy resources for future generations.”Discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree with the opinion stated above. Support your views with reasons and/or examples from your own experience, observations, or reading.1To conserve the energy is a world-wide project. Develop your position with reasons and/or specific examples drawn from history, current events, or your own experience, observations, or reading.1Admittedly, it is not always good to use the power to the utmost. There is no need for manager to fire an employee who have committed a minus violation of the company rule. There is no use for the head of a state to launch a war when there is only a political disagreement with another country, and so on so forth.2likewise, to restrain the use of power is not always good.3In fact, we are more likely to be impressed by a flexible use of power.5. “All groups and organizations should function as teams in which everyone makes decisions and shares responsibilities and du ties. Giving one person central authority and responsibility for a project or task is not an effective way to get work done.”To what extent do you agree or disagree with the opinion expressed above? Support your views with reasons and/or specific examples drawn from your own work or school experiences, your observations, or your reading.1For groups and organizations that are stable, it is reasonable to have a flat organizational structure.2For groups and organizations that are always confronted with emergencies, it is always better to give one certain person central authority and responsibility.3It is hard to say that one structure is necessarily better than the other. They all have advantages and disadvantages. And it is a case-by-case discussion.6. “There is only one definition of success —to be able to spend your life in your own way.”To what extent do you agree or disagree with this definition of success? Support your position by using reasons and examples from your reading, your own experience, or your observation of others.1I agree with the author to the extent that success has no universal criteria, every has its own way to success.2However, on one's way to his or her own success, one should not violate the law and the ethics.3To improve the quotation, a better definition of success can be --- to be able to enjoy one's life and do some contribution to the society as a whole.7. “The best way to give advice to other people is to find out what they want and then advise them how to attain it.”Discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree with the opinion expressed above. Support your point of view with reasons and/or examples from your own experience, observations, or reading.1I agree the first half of author's opinion. There is no use to give advice to people, when you even don't what they want or what their problems are.2However, it is better to help them find their own way to attain what they want.3Admittedly, some times it is impossible to instruct the people step by step cause it is time-consuming to do so. And, in contrast, directly tell them how to attain is much easier.8. “For hundreds of y ears, the monetary system of most countries has been based on the exchange of metal coins and printed pieces of paper. However, because of recent developments in technology, the international community should consider replacing the entire system of coins a nd paper with a system of electronic accounts of credits and debits.”Discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree with the opinion stated above. Support your views with reasons and/or examples from your own experience, observations, or reading.1Intangible currencies are more convenient than its predecessor.2Tangible currencies are safer than its counterparts.3It is too extreme to let the electronic system replace the tangible system entirely. We can let they two coexist.9. “Employees should keep their private lives and personal activities as separate as possible from the workplace.”Discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree with the opinion stated above. Support your views with reasons and/or examples from your own experience, observations, or reading.1Personal activities should not be brought to one's workplace since they can reduce one's efficiency. Thinking about one's private life can distract one from his or her work.2Talking about private life and doing personal activities can disturb other fellow workers.3It is inevitable for a person to think about his or her private life and to do some personal activities at the workplace. But an employee should do his or her best to focus on the work when at workplace.10. “In any enterprise, the process of making or doing something is ultimately more important than the final product.”Discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree with the opinion expressed above. Support your point of view with reasons and/or examples from your own experience, observations, or reading.1The ultimate aim for an enterprise is to gain the maximum profit. The final product instead of the process of making or doing something can bring the enterprise profit.2To make the final profit more acceptable to the consumers, special attention should be put on the process of making the product.3I prefer to say that the process of making and doing something is extremely important in any enterprise because it directly affect the quality of the final product.11. “Whe n someone achieves greatness in any field — such as the arts, science, politics, or business —that person‟s achievements are more important than any of his or her personal faults.”Discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree with the opinion stated above. Support your views with reasons and/or examples from your own experience, observations, or reading.1Every one has faults. We can not ignore one's achievement only because he or she has made some faults. Likewise, we can not neglect one's error when he or she achieves greatness in the field.2When it comes to which one is more important, the greatness or the faults, the final judgment should be based on the situation of the certain person. In fact, as far as I am concerned, it makes no sense to make such a judgment.3We should give a person fair and reasonable evaluation. It is imprudent to say that the greatness one achieves in one field is necessarily more important than the faults he or she makes.12“Education has become the main provider of ind ividual opportunity in our society. Just as property and money once were the keys to success, education has now become the element that most ensures success in life.”In your opinion, how accurate is the view expressed above? Explain, using reasons and examples based on your own experience, observations, or reading.“教育已经成为我们的社会里个人机会的主要提供者。

They feel thatmaking products that wear out fairly quickly wastes both natural andhuman resources. What they fail to see, however, is that suchmanufacturing practices keep costs down for the consumer and stimulatedemand."nrWhich do you find more compelling, the complaint about products that donot last or the response to it? Explain your position, using relevant reasonsand/or examples from your own experience, observations, or reading. Many people feel that products are not made to last, and correspondingly, manynatural and human resources are wasted. On the other hand, it can be noted thatsuch manufacturing practices keep costsdown and hence stimulate demand. In thisdiscussion, I shall present arguments favoringthe former statement and refuting the latterstatement.Products that are not made to last waste agreat deal of natural and human resources. The exact amount of wasted natural resourcesdepends on the specific product. For example,in the automobile industry, the Yugo is theclassic example of an underpriced vehicle thatwas not made to last. Considering that the average Y ugo had (not "has," since theyare no longer produced!) a life expectancy of two years ',md 25,000 miles, it was aterrible waste.Automobile industry standards today create vehicles that are warranteed for aboutfive years and 50,000 miles. By producing cheap Yugos that last half as long asmost cars are warranteed, the Yugo producer is wasting valuable natural resources. These same resources could be used by Ford or Toyota to produce an Escort orTercel that will last twice as long, thereby reducing the usage of natural resourcesby a factor of two.Human resources in this example are also wasteful. On the production side, manufacturers of a poor-quality automobile, such as the Yugo, get no personal orprofessional satisfaction from the fact that their product is the worst automobile inthe United States. This knowledge adversely affects the productivity of the Yugoworkers.Conversely, the workers at the Saturn plants constantly receive positive feedback ontheir successful products. Saturn prides itself with its reputation for quality and innovationwas is seen in its recent massive recall to fix a defect. This recall washandled so well that Saturn's image was actually bolstered. Had a recall occurred ata Yugo plant, the bad situation would have been even worse.Another factor in the human resources area is the reaction by the consumer. A greatdeal of human resources have been wasted by Yugo owners waiting for the dreaded, tow truck to show up to haul away the Yugo carcass. Any vehicle owner who isuncertain of Ns/her vehicle's performance at 7 a.m., as he/she is about to drive towork, senses a great deal of despair. This is a great waste of human resources forthe consumer. While the consumer senses the waste of natural and human resources in a poorquality product, so does the manufacturer. People who argue that low qualitymanufacturing processes keep costs low for the consumer and hence stimulatedemand should look at the Yugo example. In the mid-1980s, the Yugo was by farthe cheapest car in the United States, at $3,995. By 1991, the Yugo was no longersold here and was synonymous with the word "lemon."92 "Employees should show loyalty to their company by fully supporting thecompany's managers and policies, even when the employees believe that themanagers andpolicies are misguided."22. "Clearly, government has a responsibility to support the arts. However, if that support is going to produce anything of value, government must place no restrictions on the art that is produced."7 "The best way to give advice to other people is to find out what they want and thenadvise them how to attain it."150 "The most important quality for a leader of an organization to have is not theability to plan, to organize, and to solve problems but rather the ability tocommunicate the organization's mission and to inspire people to work towardfulfilling that mission."103 "Most people today place too much emphasis on satisfying their immediatedesires. 1======================Issue 51======================【题目】”Education will be truly effective only when it is specifically designed to meet the individual needs and interests of each student.‖【翻译】只有针对每个学生的需要和兴趣,教育才真正的有意义。

【题纲】Position: There is no doubt that education should pay more attention on the needs and interests ofstudents, but it is possible for education to satisfy every student.1、从教育的目的上讨论,兴趣对教育的重要性;对个人,爱因斯坦有句至理名言:―兴趣是最好的老师‖;对社会,教育的目的就是为社会培养各种人才,如果不注重学生兴趣,那么他们到社会不可能尽其所能。

It is the artist, not the critic, who gives society something of lasting value."【翻译】是艺术家而不是批评家,给了社会一些永久的价值。

In my view, nations should attempt to regulate such access by cooperative regulatory effort. I base this view on the universality and importance of the interestin protecting children from harm, and on the inherently pandemic nature of the problem.Adults everywhere have a serious interest in limiting access by children to pornographic material. Pornographic material tends to confuse children—distorting their notion of sex, of themselves as sexual beings, and of how people ought to treat one another. Particularly in the case of domination and child pornography, the messages children receive from pornographic material cannot contribute in a healthy way to their emerging sexuality. Given this important interest that knows no cultural bounds, we should regulate children’s access to sexually explicit material on the Internet. However, information on the Internet is not easily contained within national borders. Limitingaccess to such information is akin to preventing certain kinds of global environmental destruction. Consider the problem of ozone depletion thought to be a result of chloroflourocarbon (CFC) emissions. When the government regulated CFC production in the U.S., corporations responsible for releasing CFC’s into the atmosphere simply moved abroad, and the global threat continued. Similarly, the Internet is a global phenomenon; regulations in one country will not stop “contamination” overall. Thus, successful regulation of Internet pornography requires international cooperation, just as successful CFC regulation finally required the joint efforts of many nations. Admittedly, any global regulatory effort faces formidable political hurdles, since cooperation and compliance on the part of all nations—even warring ones—is inherently required. Nevertheless, as in the case of nuclear disarmament or global warming, the possible consequences of failing to cooperate demand that the effort be made. And dissenters can always be coerced into compliance politically or economically by an alliance of influential nations. In sum, people everywhere have a serious interest in the healthy sexual development of children and, therefore, in limiting children’s access to Internet pornography. Because Internet material is not easily confined within nationa l borders, we can successfully regulate children’s access to adult materials on the Internet only by way of international cooperation.。
