Unit6 Writing 写作一、写作题目阅读下面短文, 根据其内容写一篇60词左右的内容概要。
In school and at home, most of us have been scolded or even got punished for daydreaming. The majority of people say that by daydreaming we waste our time and energy on something that is nothing less than unproductive things. But many medical studies have stressed the fact that daydreaming works wonders on our imagination, creativity and situation-handling techniques. In fact, many problems can be easily solved when we daydream. The greatest benefit of daydreaming is that your mood gets improved. By separating yourself from the world around you, you tend to enjoy the peace in your mind and get relaxed by daydreaming, as you think about something that calms your sense. When you start visualizing(设想)things while daydreaming, you need to forget all stress and tension(紧张). Then you get happiness from it and this happiness changes into a source of energy that keeps you in a good mood to work. Many psychologists have said that people who daydream tend to have a sharper memory. It's true that when you are daydreaming, you tend to get carried away imagining various situations, either real or unreal. You tend to act differently in different situations, trying to satisfy your mind by doing what you want in your dreams. When your mind gets satisfied, you are in a better position to concentrate more on your work. Since daydreaming activates the nerves of your brain, you tend to have better attention and your ability to remember things develops. When you daydream, you automatically visualize yourself listening to your heart and therefore, you get to know yourself better. You also start realizing the mistakes you've made in life and you start trying your best to avoid repeating them. Such visualization techniques s help you connect yourself with your soul.筛选、整合信息、转换表达要点1第一段的主要内容可概括为要点1,该要点含有相对立的两部分信息,可用________引导的让步状语从句来表述;________可同义转换为daydreaming isa waste of time and energy daydreaming works wonders on our imagination, creativity and situation-handling techniques可提炼概括为________。

新视野大学英语读写教程第三版电子教案Book 1 Unit 1
Unit 1Fresh StartUnderstanding and LearningOverviewThe first unit of the first book of our series meets students who have just entered college or university and are beginning a new phase in their lives. We hope that students will be able to talk about their expectations of their college experience, and they will be aware of the expectations their parents and their educators have of them.Text A is a university president’s welcome speech, in which the president gives valuable guidance to and expresses expectations of freshman students.Text B is a letter written by a father to his child who is about to start college, in which the father expresses his expectations of the child. We hope that the two texts will stimulate students to share their own expectations regarding their college experience; and we also hope the two texts will help students look from a new perspective at the expectations their educators and their parents have of themText A shows characteristics of a speech. Pronouns I, we and you are more frequently used than in other kinds of writing because the speaker is addressing the audience directly, hoping to motivate the audience and to gain their support and understanding. In a speech, the speaker can employ a variety of figures of speech to make his speech vivid and powerful, such as simile, metaphor, contrast, parallelism(排比), and repetition. A very common figure of speech is parallelism. In parallelism, coordinate ideas are arranged in words, phrases, sentences, and paragraphs to emphasize and point out relations. In Text A, for example, the president uses many sentences of parallel structure. This makes his speech powerful, persuasive, and thought-provoking. It can even produce humorous effect as in the example: “You may have cried tears of joy to be finally finished with high school, and your parents may have cried tears of joy to be finally with doing your laundry!”The most obvious feature of Text B is that it contains many imperative sentences, and these sentences tend to be brief. An imperative sentence advises, instructs, requests, or commands. It begins with a verb; the implied subject is you.In Text B, a father makes use of imperative sentences to give advice and instructions to his child who has just left home for college. For example: “Don’t be bound by what other people think.”“Pick friends who are genuine and sincere.”“Become the great thinker you were born to be.”In class the teacher can make the students compare the writing styles of Text A and Text B. Class activities may include pair work, group discussions, and mini-surveys about students’high school experience, their families and friends, and their expectations of college life.Section AToward a brighter future for allBackground information1. American higher educationIn the United States, students can choose to go to college after high school. (They can also choose to go straight to the workforce after high school.) They have the option of attending a two-year community college before applying to a four-year university. Admission to communitycollege is easier, tuition is lower, and class sizes are often smaller than at a university. Community college students can earn an associate agree and transfer up to two years of course credits to a university.College and university students need to pay tuition, but many earn scholarships or receive loans. Although admissions policies vary from one university to another, most determine admission based on several criteria, including a student’s high school course of study, high school Grade Point Average (GPA), participation in extracurricular activities, SAT(Scholastic Assessment Test) or ACT (American College Testing) exam scores, a written essay, and possibly a personal interview with a representative from the admissions office. Most students in the United States take the SAT Reasoning Test or the ACT during their final year of high school. Each university sets a minimum SAT or ACT score that a student must achieve in order to gain admission. These are standardized quantitative examinations. The SAT tests critical reading, mathematics, and writing skills, The ACT tests English, mathematics, reading, science reasoning, and includes an optional writing test.Extracurricular activities may include scholastic clubs, athletic teams, student government, and philanthropic clubs. Voluntary participation in these kinds of activities is an indication that a student has learned valuable life lessons, such as teamwork, leadership, or civic responsibility.University students pursuing a bachelor’s degree are called “undergraduates”; students pursuing a master’s or doctoral degree are called “graduate students”. Most universities give under graduate students a liberal education, which means students are required to take courses across several disciplines before they specialize in a major field of study. Graduate and professional programs, such as medicine or law, are specialized. All degree programs require students to complete a minimum number of credit hours before graduating.Selection for admission to a graduate program is based on several criteria. These include completion of a bachelor’s degree, the student’s undergraduate coursework and GPA. Students are also expected to write an essay as part of their application or to submit a writing sample. Most master’s programs require students to have a minimum score on the Graduate Record Examination (GRE), which tests verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning, critical thinking, and analytical writing skills.Students continue to take course at the graduate level. A final thesis is required for most master’s programs. Doctoral students take course until they have earned enough credit hours to attempt their qualifying examinations. These are usually taken over several days and often include a written and oral component. After doctoral students pass their qualifying exams, they are advanced to candidacy and can begin writing their dissertation. Before the degree is given, the completed dissertation must be orally defended before the candidate’s faculty committee. 2. Vera WangVera Wang is a Chinese-American fashion designer. She was born and raised in New York City. While trained as a figure skater in high school, she eventually earned a degree in art history from Sarah Lawrence College in 1971. But a career in fashion was her dream. She worked as a senior fashion editor for Vogue magazine for 15 years. In 1985, she left vogue and joined Ralph Lauren as a design director for two years. In 1990, she opened her own design salon in New York, and featured her trademark bridal gowns. Wang has made wedding gowns for many celebrities and public figures, such as Jennifer Lopez (詹尼佛·洛佩兹), Sharon Stone (莎朗·斯通) and Chelsea Clinton (切尔西·克林顿).Detailed study of the text1. Remember me from the last time I told you about my refugee journey? Well, today I want to continue my story and tell you about what happened after we arrived in a new country. So, after we finally arrived in a new country, we were taken to a refugee camp. The camp was not very big, but it was safe and we were finally able to relax a bit. The people there were very kind and welcoming, and they helped us settle in and find our way around. We were given a small house to live in, and although it was simple and basic, it was much better than the tents we had been living in before. We were also given food and clothes, which was a huge relief for my family. The next few weeks were spent trying to adjust to our new life. I started going to school, which was very different from what I was used to. The teachers and students were all very nice, but I had a hard time understanding the language and keeping up with the lessons. However, I tried my best and slowly started to improve. My parents were also trying to find work so that they could support our family. It was not easy, as they had to learn new skillsand adapt to a different work environment. But they were determined to provide for us and give us a better future.Despite all the challenges, we were grateful for the opportunity to start a new life in a new country. We were finally safe and had a chance to build a better future for ourselves. I am hopeful that things will continue to improve, and that we will be able to create a new home here. That's all for now. I will keep you updated on our journey, so stay tuned for more adventures! Bye for now!篇4Wow, I can't believe I'm continuing the first essay of Unit 1 in elective four English class. It's like a dream come true! So, in the last essay, we talked about how important it is to set goals and work hard to achieve them. Now, I want to share some tips on how we can stay motivated and focused on our goals.First of all, it's important to believe in ourselves and our abilities. We should always remind ourselves that we are capable of achieving great things if we put in the effort. Whenever we feel discouraged or doubt ourselves, we should think about all the times we have succeeded before and use that as motivation to keep going.Secondly, it's helpful to break down our goals into smaller, more manageable tasks. This way, we can track our progress and feel a sense of accomplishment as we complete each task. It also helps to stay organized and make a schedule to ensure we are putting in the necessary time and effort to reach our goals.Another important tip is to surround ourselves with positive and supportive people. It's easier to stay motivated when we have friends, family, or teachers cheering us on and encouraging us along the way. They can provide us with the support and motivation we need to keep pushing forward.Lastly, it's essential to remember that setbacks and failures are a natural part of the journey towards success. Instead of getting discouraged, we should use these experiences as learning opportunities and motivation to work even harder. We should always stay positive and never give up on our goals, no matter how difficult the path may seem.In conclusion, staying motivated and focused on our goals requires belief in ourselves, breaking tasks into smaller steps, staying organized, surrounding ourselves with supportive people, and learning from setbacks. By following these tips, we can overcome any challenges that come our way and achieve our dreams. Let's keep working hard and never give up!篇5Unit 1:Hi everyone! I'm back with a continuation of our English class assignment. Remember the story we read in class called "The Mystery of the Missing Book"? Well, in the story, the main character, Lily, found a mysterious book in the library and had to solve the clues to find out what happened to it. So today, I'm going to continue the story with my own ideas!Lily was feeling excited and a little bit scared as she opened the book. Inside, she found a dusty old map with strange markings on it. She knew that this was the key to solving the mystery of the missing book. Lily decided to show the map to her friends, Tom and Sarah, to see if they could help her decipher the clues.Tom and Sarah were just as curious as Lily about the map. They studied it carefully and realized that the markings on the map were actually a code. They worked together to crack the code and discovered that it led to the old abandoned house on the edge of town. The three friends were nervous but determined to find out what secrets the old house held. As they approached the house, they saw a flickering light coming from one of the windows. Lily took a deep breath and pushed open the creaky door.Inside, they found shelves full of dusty books and strange symbols etched into the walls. It was clear that whoever had been in the house was a part of something mysterious and powerful. Suddenly, they heard footsteps approaching and a voice saying, "You have found the key to the lost book. Now, you must choose whether to keep it safe or unleash its power."Lily, Tom, and Sarah looked at each other, knowing that they had an important decision to make. Should they keep the book hidden away, or should they risk uncovering its secrets? With a shared glance, they knew they had to protect the book and its mysteries from falling into the wrong hands. And so, the three friends left the old house, with the book safely tucked away in Lily's backpack. As they walked back to town, they knew that their adventure was far from over. But they also knew that with each challenge they faced, they grew stronger and closer as friends. And that's the end of my continuation of "The Mystery of the Missing Book"! I hope you enjoyed reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it. Remember, no matter what challenges weface, we can always rely on our friends to help us through. See you all in our next English class! Bye for now!篇6Hello, everyone! Today, I'm going to continue the first essay of Unit 1 in Selective English 4. So, here we go!As I mentioned in my last essay, my family and I decided to spend the weekend in the countryside. When we arrived at the cottage, I was amazed by the beauty of the surroundings. The air was so fresh and the trees were so green. We unpacked our bags and settled into the cottage. My parents decided to take a nap, but I was too excited to stay indoors. I grabbed my bike and set off to explore the area. I cycled through fields of wildflowers and chased butterflies. I even saw a deer running through the grass! After a while, I came across a small pond. The water was so clear and inviting that I couldn't resist jumping in. I splashed around, feeling the cool water against my skin. It was so much fun!As the sun began to set, I made my way back to the cottage. My parents were awake and preparing dinner. We ate outside, under the stars, and talked about our day. I shared my adventures with them and we laughed together. As I lay in bed that night, I realized how lucky I was to have such an amazing family. They gathered at Timmy's house, which had a big backyard perfect for games and fun.Timmy's mom helped them prepare snacks and drinks, while his dad set up a tent for them to play in. The air was filled with laughter and joy as the children ran around, playing tag and hide-and-seek. Some of them even tried their hand at storytelling, making up spooky tales about the mysterious creatures they had encountered in the forest. As the evening approached, Timmy's mom brought out the homemade cake she had baked for the occasion. It wasdecorated with colorful icing and had the words "Adventure Club" written in big letters on top. The children gathered around the cake, clapping and cheering as Timmy blew out the candles. After enjoying the delicious cake, they all sat around the campfire, roasting marshmallows and sharing their favorite moments from the adventure. Timmy talked about how he had faced his fear of the dark and how he had learned to trust his friends. His friends shared similar stories, each one learning a valuable lesson from their time in the forest. As the night grew darker, the children huddled together under blankets, feeling safe and happy in each other's company. We decided to follow the map andsee where it would lead us. So, me and my friends, Sally and Tim, set off on our adventure! The map led us deep into the forest behind our houses. We had to be really careful not to get lost, but luckily Tim had brought a compass with him. We walked for what felt like ages, but we were so excited to see what we would find at the end of the map. Finally, we came to a clearing in the forest and there, right in the middle, was a giant oak tree. The map said that we had to dig under the tree to find the treasure, so we grabbed the shovels we had brought with us and started digging. After what seemed like eternity, Sally’s shovel hit something hard. We all started digging faster, and soon we uncovered a wooden chest buried under the tree’s roots. We were so excited! We opened the chest and inside were glittering jewels, shiny coins, and old scrolls. We couldn’t believe it! We had found a real treasure! We decided to split the treasure evenly between us and share it with our families. It was the most amazing adventure of our lives, and we couldn’t wait for our next one.I can’t wait to see what other mysteries and adventures we will uncover in the future! Adventure is out there, and we’re ready to find it!篇9Oh my goodness! The adventures of Alex and his friends continue in the magical kingdom of Dreamland. The feast was filled with delicious foods and sparkling drinks, and the friends danced and sang the night away. The next morning, the elves led them to the Castle of Dreams, where the king and queen greeted them with open arms. They thanked them for their bravery and courage in defeating the witch, and rewarded them with magical gifts.Alex received a golden key that could unlock any door in the kingdom. Sarah got a magical mirror that could show her the future. Tom was given a magical cloak that made him invisible. And Lily was given a magical book that could answer any question. With their new gifts in hand, the friends set out on their next adventure. They travelled through the kingdom, helping those in need and spreading kindness wherever they went. They faced many challenges along the way, but with their friendship and courage, they overcame them all.And so, the adventures of Alex and his friends continued in the magical kingdom of Dreamland, where anything was possible and where dreams really did come true. The end.I had so much fun writing this story! I hope you enjoyed reading it as much as I did writing it. Dreamland is such a cool place, I wish I could visit it too!篇10After our exciting adventure at the dinosaur park, my friends and I couldn't wait to tell everyone about it. We decided to write a report to share with our classmates during our English class. We all gathered at my house and sat down with our notebooks and pencils ready."Okay, guys, let's start by writing a catchy introduction to get everyone's attention," I said, feeling excited."I know! We could say something like 'Have you ever been on a time-travelling adventure to meet real-life dinosaurs? Well, we have!'" suggested Lily."That's perfect! It will definitely grab everyone's attention," I replied, writing down Lily's idea in my notebook.Next, we started writing about our favorite dinosaurs and the cool facts we learned about them. I wrote about the fierce T-Rex, while Lily shared about the gentle Triceratops. We were all amazed at the different types of dinosaurs we saw and how huge they were."I can't believe we actually saw real dinosaurs!" exclaimed Ben, his eyes shining with excitement. As we continued writing, we talked about the fun activities we did at the park, like digging for fossils and playing dinosaur-themed games. We also included some funny anecdotes about getting scared by the animatronic dinosaurs and racing each other on the dinosaur rides. Finally, we wrapped up our report by sharing our overall thoughts and feelings about the experience. We all agreed that it was the best field trip ever and that we couldn't wait to go back again. With our report finished, we practiced reading it out loud to each other, making sure to speak clearly and confidently. We were all so proud of our work and couldn't wait to present it to our classmates. When the day of our presentation arrived, we stood up in front of the class, feeling a bit nervous but also excited to share our adventure. As we read our report, we saw our classmates' faces light up with interest and amazement. They listened attentively, asking us questions and sharing their own thoughts about dinosaurs. After we finished, our teacher applauded us and praised us for our hard work. We beamed with pride, knowing that we had done a great job.As we sat back down at our desks, I looked at my friends and smiled. We may be just a bunch of kids, but together, we had written an awesome report that had captivated our classmates' imaginations. And who knows? Maybe one day, we'll be real-life paleontologists, discovering new dinosaur fossils and sharing our adventures with the world. But for now, we're just happy to be kids, learning and exploring the wonders of the past. The end.。

And I am going to start to write articles and send them to newspapers and magazines. I am about to practice writing every day. As the saying goes, “Practice makes perfect.” When I finish high school, I want to go to a university which has the best teachers in Beijing. When I am free, I will also read as many books as possible to open my mind and improve my speaking and writing skills. After I finishcollege, I am going to work as a reporter at a TV station and I think I will be so good that everyone likes me.Although it is difficult to do that, I will still try to make my dreams come true.My DreamThere is no doubt that everyone has his or her dream.
