2023高考英语全国乙卷C篇阅读理解翻译及解析 (2)

2023高考英语全国乙卷D篇阅读理解翻译及解析If you want to tell the history of the whole world, a history that does not privilege one part of humanity, you cannot do it through texts alone, because only some of the world has ever had texts, while most of the world, for most of the time, has not. Wri ting is one of humanity’s later achievements, and until fairly recently even many literate (有文字的) societies recorded their concerns not only in writing but in things.Ideally a history would bring together texts and objects, and some chapters of this book are able to do just that, but in many cases we simply can’t. The clearest example of this between literate and non-literate history is perhaps the first conflict, at Botany Bay, between Captain Cook’s voyage and the Australian Aboriginals. From the English side, we have scientific reports and the captain’s record of that terrible day. From the Australian side, we have only a wooden shield (盾) dropped by a man in flight after his first experience of gunshot. If we want to reconstruct what was actually going on that day, the shield must be questioned and interpreted as deeply and strictly as the written reports. In addition to the problem of miscomprehension from both sides, there are victories accidentally or deliberately twisted, especially when only the victors know how to write. Those who are on the losing side often have only their things to tell their stories. The Caribbean Taino, the Australian Aboriginals, the African people of Benin and the Incas, all ofwhom appear in this book, can speak to us now of their past achievements most powerfully through the objects they made: a history told through things gives them back a voice. When we consider contact (联系) between literate and non-literate societies such as these, all our first-hand accounts are necessarily twisted, only one half of a dialogue. If we are to find the other half of that conversation, we have to read not just the texts, but the objects.12. What is the first paragraph mainly about?A. How past events should be presented.B. What humanity is concerned about.C. Whether facts speak louder than words.D. Why written language is reliable.13. What does the author indicate by mentioning Captain Cook in paragraph 2?A. His report was scientific.B. He represented the local people.C. He ruled over Botany Bay.D. His record was one-sided.14. What does the underlined word “conversation” in paragraph 3 refer to?A. Problem.B. History.C. V oice.D. Society.15. Which of the following books is the text most likely selected from?A. How Maps Tell Stories of the WorldB. A Short History of AustraliaC. A History of the World in 100 ObjectsD. How Art Works Tell Stories如果你想讲述整个世界的历史,一段不赋予人类一部分特权的历史,你不能只通过文本来讲述,因为世界上只有一些地区有文本,而世界上大多数地区在大多数时候都没有。

江苏省徐州市2015英语阅读理解训练(2)及答案(高考一轮)AChinese politeness have always been formal to follow strict rules, although sometimes Chinese people seem to be impolite according to Western standards in public places. To well understand Chinese, some concepts should not be ignored.MianziThe idea of shame, usually expressed as 'face' could be loosely defined as the 'status' or 'self-respect' in Chinese and by no means alien to foreigners. It is the worst thing for a Chinese to lose face. Never insult, embarrass, shame, yell at or otherwise demean a person. Since all these actions would risk putting a Chinese in a situation that he might lose face, neither try to prove someone wrong nor shout at him in public. In order to get a successful effect without letting a Chinese lose face, any criticism should be delivered privately, carefully, or else, just opposite to what you wish.GuanxiThroughout much of Chinese history, the fundamental glue that has held society together is the concept of guanxi, relationships between people. It is very important for the Chinese to have good relationships. They often regard good social relations as a symbol of personal ability and influence. Someone who has no connections would be disrespected and is only half-Chinese.KeqiKeqi not only means considerate, polite, and well mannered, but also represents respect and modesty. It is impolite to talk too proudly about oneself or one's inner circle. The expression is most often used in the negative, as in buyao keqi, meaning "you shouldn't be so kind and polite to me," or "you're welcome."Besides, Chinese seldom express what they think directly and they prefer a roundabout way. Neither show their emotions and feelings in public. They rarely greet people with a handshake, though it is very popular among foreigners, and say nothingof embracing or kissing when greeting or saying good-bye. Consequently, it is better not to behave too carefree in public, even though you are well-intentioned. Also, it is advisable to be fairly cautious in political discussions. Do not particularly push yourself forward, or else you are unwelcome. To sum up, do in Rome as Rome does, but you need not worry about these cultural barriers since most Chinese are hospitable and friendly and will not mind your no accomplishment.1. In most Chinese’s eyes, the fundamental glue holding society together is the idea of ____.A. relationships between peopleB. influences upon othersC. dependence on othersD. kindness to others2. The underlined word “demean” in the first paragraph means make people _____.A. respectfulB. happyC. shamefulD. weak3. Which of the following is NOT mentioned in the passage?A. As the world starts to become increasingly aware of the dirty carbon footprint left behind by airplane travel, could it be time to bring back to the air ship?Hybrid Air vehicle,a UK-based company, has recently displayed a new concept design of their around100-passenger air-ships that hopes to revolutionize city tripping, all while reducing carbon emissions(排放).The images of the flashy inside parts are just an ambitious plan for the moment, but the company argued the air ship would be well-suited to city-to-city trips.A journey by air ship would take slightly longer than one by airplane. For example,a flight from Liverpool to Belfast across the Irish Sea is approximately4 hours and24minutes,check-in and security time included, while the air ship will take 5hours and20minutes in theory. However, the payoff comes in the amount of carbon dioxide released—67.75kilograms(149.36pounds)of carbon emissions per passenger by plane, compared to4.75kilograms(10,47pounds)per passenger by air ship. The company claims their standard Airlander10model can now complete journeys with a total of a75percent reduction in emissions compared to conventional aircrafts. They eventually hope to introduce a hybrid-electric(混合电能的)model by 2025,which would reduce emissions by90percent,then a totally electric model by 2030that would be a zero emissions aircraft. In a bid to attract air travel enthusiasts, the company also hopes to make the experience more pleasurable than the typical journey of sticky seats and minimal leg room.“For many decades flying from A to B has meant sitting in a metal tube with tiny windows—a necessity but not always a pleasure. On Airlander, the whole experience is pleasant, even enjoyable,”George Land,Commercial Business Development Director at Hybrid Air vehicle, said in a recent statement.1.What is the new air ship designed for?A.Trips with fewer passengers.B.Reducing the use of carbon.C.Traveling specially between cities.D.The lowest cost of trips for passengers.2.Why does the author list the figures in paragraph2?A.To highlight the speed of the airplane.B.To stress the disadvantages of the new airship.C.To indicate the potential market of the new airshipD.To present the positive effect of the new air ship on the environment. 3.What is the plan of the company for the new air ship?A.Producing a fully electric model by2030.B.Producing a hybrid-electric model by2030.C.Completing the standard Airlander10model by2025.D.Putting the standard Airlander la model into service by2025.4.What does George Land think of the traditional airplane?A.It's much safe B.Its space is too narrow,C.Its seats are too hard.D.Its atmosphere is more pleasant.

Having chosen family television programs and women’s magazines, the tooth paste marketer, for instance, must select the exacttelevision programs and stations aswell as the specific women’s magazines to be used.【解析】在这个有30多个词的简单句中,句首用了现在分词的完成式Having chosen family television programs and women’s magazines作时间状语,动词chosen后有并列宾语family television programs and women’s magazines;the toothpaste marketer是主语,中间for instance 是插入语,must select是谓语,the exact television programs and stations aswell as the specific women’s magazines是三个并列宾语;句末不定式to be used修饰宾语the exact television programs and stations as well as the specific women’s magazines。

The medical establishment had reject ed his incubators, but Dr. Couney didn’t give up on his aims. Starting in 1896, he funded his work by displaying the babies and charging 25 cents to see the show. She’d been born a twin, but her twin died at birth. And the hospital staff told her father that there wasn’t a chance she’d live. “It was just: You die because you didn’t belong in the world,” Horn says. But her father refused to accept that answer. He grabbed a blanket to wrap her in, called a taxi, and took her to Coney Island—and to Dr. Couney’s infant (婴幼儿) exhibit.Years later, Horn decided to return to see the babies—this time as a visitor. When she took the opportunity to introduce herself, Dr. Couney went over to a man who was uneasily looking at his small infant. “Look at this young lady,” Dr. Couney told the man. “She’s one of our babies. And that’s how your baby’s gonna grow up.”Horn was just one of thousands of premature infants that Dr. Couney cared for and displayed at amusementparks until the 194s. He died in 1950, shortly after incubators like his were introduced in most hospitals. At the time, Dr. Couney’s efforts were largely unknown—but at least one person will never forget him. “Ninety-six years later, here I am, all in one piece. And I’m thankful to be here,” Horn says.21.What can we learn about Dr. Couney’s incubator?A.It pushed medical science forward. B.It was the most famous sideshow.C.It saved many premature babies. Offering his guests coffee, the professor went to the kitchen and returned with a large pot of coffee and a variety of cups — porcelain(瓷), plastic, glass — telling them to help themselves to the coffee. Meanwhile the professor stood nearby watching. When all the students had a cup of coffee in hand, the professor said, “If you have noticed, all the nice-looking expensive cups have been taken up, leaving behind the plain and cheap ones. It is normal for you to want only the best for yourselves, which is the source of your problems and stress.”“Be assured that the cup itself adds no quality to the coffee. In most cases it is just more expensive and in some cases even hides what we drink. What all of you really want is coffee, not the cup, but you consciously went for the best cups... And then you began eyeing each other’s cups.”“Now consider t his: Life is the coffee; the jobs, money and position in society are the cups. They are just tools to hold and contain life, and the type of cup we have does not define, nor change the quality of the life we live. Sometimes, by concentrating only on the cup, we fail to enjoy the coffee. Savor(品味) the coffee, not the cups! 2022高考英语(遵义市)阅读理解(2)(解析)

2022高考英语(遵义市)阅读理解(2)(解析)

2022高考英语(遵义市)阅读理解(2)(解析)故事记叙型阅读明白得文化教育类---[2020·浙江卷]Two friends have an argument that breaks up their friendship forever, even though neither one can remember how the whole thing got started. Such sad events happen over and over in high schools across the country. In fact, according to an official report on youth violence, “In our country today, the greatest threat to the lives of children and adolescents is not disease or starvation or abandonment, but the terrible reality of violence”. Given that th is is the case, why aren't students taught to manage conflict the way they are taught to solve math problems, drive cars, or stay physically fit?First of all, students need to realize that conflict is unavoidable. A report on violence among middle school and high school students indicates that most violent incidents between students begin with a relatively minor insult(侮辱). For example, a fight could start over the fact that one student eats a peanut butter sandwich each lunchtime. Laughter over the sandwich can lead to insults, which in turn can lead to violence. The problem isn't in the sandwich, but in the way students deal with the conflict.Once students recognize that conflict is unavoidable, they can practice the golden rule of conflict resolution(解决):stay calm. Once the student feels calmer, he or she should choose words that will calm the other person down as well. Rude words, name-calling, and accusations only add fuel to the emotional fire. On the other hand, soft words spoken at a normal sound level can put out the fire before it explodes out of control. After both sides have calmed down, they can use another key strategy(策略) for conflict resolution: listening. Listening allows the two sides to understand each other. One person should describe his or her side, and the other person should listen without interrupting. Afterward, the listener can ask non-threatening questions to clarify the speaker's position. Then the two people should change roles. Finally, students need to consider what they are bearing. This doesn't mean tryingto figure out what's wrong with the other person. It means understanding what the real issue is and what both sides are trying to accomplish. For example, a shouting match over a peanut butter sandwich might happen because one person thinks the other person is unwilling to try new things. Students need to ask themselves questions such as these:Ho w did this start? What do I really w ant? What am I afraid of? As the issue becomes clearer, the conflict often simply becomes smaller. Even if it doesn't, careful thought helps both sides figure out a mutual solution. There will always be conflict in schools, but that doesn't mean there needs to be violence. After students in Atlanta started a conflict resolution program, according to Educators for Social Responsibility, “64 percent of the teachers reported less physical violence in the classroom; 75 percent of the teachers reported an increase in student cooperation; and 92 percent of the students felt better about themselves”. Learnin g to resolve conflicts can help students deal with friends, teachers, parents, bosses, and coworkers. In that way, conflict resolution is a basic life skill that should be taught in schools across the country.50. This article is mainly about ________.A. the lives of school childrenB. the cause of arguments in schoolsC. how to analyze youth violenceD. how to deal with school conflicts51. From Paragraph 2 we can learn that ________.A. violence is more likely to occur at lunchtimeB. a small conflict can lead to violenceC. students tend to lose their temper easilyD. the eating habit of a student is often the cause of a fight52. Why do students need to ask themselves the questions stated in Paragraph 5?A. To find out who is to blame.B. To get ready to try new things.C. To make clear what the real issue is.D. To figure out how to stop the shouting match.53. After the conflict resolution program was started in Atlanta, it was found that ________.A. there was a decrease in classroom violenceB. there was less student cooperation in the classroomC. more teachers felt better about themselves in schoolsD. the teacher-student relationship greatly improved54. The writer's purpose for writing this article is to ________.A. complain about problems in school educationB. teach students different strategies for school lifeC. advocate teaching conflict management in schoolsD. inform teachers of the latest studies on school violence【要点综述】作者在文章中要紧探讨了如何让学生正确、平复处理校园冲突,从而减少校园暴力以及介绍了学生学会解决冲突的益处,最后呼吁全国的各个学校教授学生解决冲突的技能。

四川省广安市2021高考英语学案:阅读理解练习(2)及答案解析(8月)【英语卷(解析)·2021届江西省南昌二中高三上学期第一次考试(202208)】DThere is no denying that for more than a generation college education has been accepted without the slightest doubt. All high school graduates ought to go, says conventional wisdom and statistical evidence, because college will help them earn more money, become “better” people, and learn to be more responsible citizens than those who don’t go.But college has never been able to work its magic for everyone. And now that close to half our high school graduates are attending, those who don’t fit the pattern are becoming more numerous, and more obvious. College graduates are selling shoes and driving taxis; college students interfere with each other’s experiments and write false letters of recommendation in the fierce competition so as to get admitted into graduate schools. Others find no stimulation (激励) in their studies, and consequently have to drop out, which is often encouraged by college administrators. Some observers say the fault is with the young people themselves--they are spoiled and they are expecting too much. But that’s a condemnation(责怪)of the students as a whole, and doesn’t explain all campus unhappiness. Others blame the state of the world, and they are partly right. We have been told that young people have to go to college because our economy can’t absorb an army of untrained eighteen-year-olds. But disappointed graduates are learning that it can no longer absorb an army of trained twenty-two-year-olds, either. Some campus watchers have openly begun to suggest that college may not be the best, the proper, the only place for every young person after the completion of high school. We may have been looking at all those surveys and statistics upside down, it seems, and through the rosy(玫瑰般的) glow of our own remembered college experiences. Perhaps college doesn’t make people intelligent, ambitious, happy, liberal, or quick to learn things—maybe it is just the other way around, and intelligent, ambitious, happy, liberal, quick-learning people are merely the ones who have been attracted to college in the first place. And perhaps all those successful college graduates would have been successful whether they had gone to college or not. This is heresy (异端邪说) to those of us who have been brought up to believe that if a little schooling is good, more has to be much better. But contrary evidence is beginning to come up.55. According to the first paragraph, ___________________.A. people now no longer challenge college education.B. people still have a low opinion of college education.C. the author thinks youngsters should all go to college.D. people have great expectations for college education.56. More young people drop out of college because _________.A. they are no longer motivated in their studies.B. they can start selling shoes and driving taxis.C. they compete for admission to graduate schools.D. college administrators encourage them to do so.57. Who does the author think is to blame f or campus unhappiness?A. young students who are all spoiled and expecting too much.B. our society that can’t offer enough jobs to college graduates.C. our society that has not enough jobs for high school graduates.D. young people as well as our society are to blame for all this.【答案】【学问点】C5文化训练类【文章综述】高校始终是高中毕业生的首选,由于人们对于高校训练期盼很多,但是高校训练真的能如人所愿吗?现在很多高校生由于没有学习的动力而选择退学,作者认为这不仅是同学的责任,社会也要负责。

【精选真题01】(2022·江西重点校联考)For many people, bookstores are wonderful places. That's because the books on the shelves can take you away to magical lands, help you learn a foreign language, or cook a delicious meal. But when your community is too small to house a brick bookstore, you have to come up with another idea. A mobile bookstore was the result. That is the case for Rita Collins,70, who dreamed of opening a used bookstore after retiring from teaching.A business planning class from the American Booksellers Association convinced Collins to give up her idea of opening a bookstore in the small town where she lives. Her town, Eureka, Montana, only has a population of1,517. Collins asked her instructors about a traveling bookstore on wheels and they doubted her idea. But she insisted on it.Collins was inspired by Dylans Mobile Bookstore, a traveling bookstore in Wales run by Jeff Towns. She contacted Jeff for advice but she was largely on her own when it came to building her bookstore. First, she had to find a vehicle large enough to stand in. Then she had to have it refitted with shelves that would hold the books at a15-degree angle so that they would stay in place while traveling. Collins named her bookstore St. Rita's Traveling Bookstore, which has been on the road since 2015.At first, she drove through Montana and then she made her first cross-country trip in 2016. After she retired in2017, it became a full-time job. Collins and her bookstore have visited 30 states, stopping at festivals and events along the way. Collins loves meeting people and making connections. While she loves what she does, Collins doesn't think she can keep doing it. In several years, she hopes to pas her traveling bookstore onto another book lover who shares the same interest and will keep it on the road.24. Why did Collins abandon opening a bookstore?A. Europe’s most extensive mountain range has becomedefined by its world-class ski resorts, regular host to theWinter Olympics. But until the mid 1800s, the Alps were1 summer playground. Immortalized by artistssuch as Turner and Sargent, and beloved of Grand Tourtravelers and a golden era of summit-vanquishingmountaineers, the Alps were where summer was at. During the calendar’s colder months, British travelers were heading to Europe’s southern coastlines, 2 (seek) water cures and Cote d’Azur winter sunshine. Then seasonal habits shifted. Monied Victorian travelers were tempted to winter in the Alps’ cosy, well-catered chalets, 3 (famous) led by enterprising St Moritz hotelier Johannes Badrutt, 4 offered tohost the first have-a-go snow season tourists from England. But it was the advent of affordable package tourism 5 the mid 1900s that sealed the deal for summer supremacy in Europe’s beach resorts. But is the direction of travel once again on the move? “More and more, clients are seeking out Alpine holidays during the summer months,” says Carolyn Addison, head of product at luxury travel company Black Tomato. “People are swerving the crowds in peak winter season and 6 (look) at summertime in the Alps to be immersed in the mountain air, with plenty of ways to be active in nature. We’re seeing a surge in demand for slow travel, relishing the outdoors and escaping the increasingly baking summer heat in other European destinations.”The company says that rooms booked in the Dolomites almost tripled from 2021 to 2022. And while 2021 bookings were a mix of summer and winter stays, for 2022, almost all were for summer. The Alps — like many of Europe’s wilderness areas and national parks — 7 (benefit) from a pandemic-led boom.“We’ve seen an increase in the8 (popular) of summer travel to the mountains over the last few years,” says Joanna Laforge, co-owner of regional specialist tour operator Ski France. “It increased dramatically after Covid-19, with French clientele looking for holiday options when travel 9 (restrict), meaning the idea of open space, fresh air and a change of pace in the mountains proved very popular. 详解高考英语阅读理解(02)阅读下面五篇短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出最佳选项填空。

ASome people take lots of exercise. Others keep to strict diets. But according to recent research, the best way to live a long and happy life is simple: Get a dog."We have known for many years that the company of a pet can increase well-being in a number of ways," says Dr Bonnie Beaver, an animal behavior specialist at Texas University."For example, the survival rates of heart attack victims with pets are much greater than those of people without pets."according to Dr Beaver, pet owners are less likely to need a doctor. They recover more quickly; when they do get ill. They have lower blood pressure, take more exercise and are more socially active.Above all, they are happier. Seventy percent of the families Dr Beaver surveyed said that their family environment was happier after they got a pet. And this, is what Dr Beaver and other researchers are trying to achieve. They want to find a scientific link between human happiness and a long life. There is no final answer to this question yet, but it seems to be something to do with emotional ties. People with someone or something to love live longer. "There are many forms of animal-human relationships and some are very helpful," says Dr Beaver. It seems that the more lovely an animal is, the more it benefits our health. As the saying goes, " If you want to be loved, get a dog."Pet ownership benefits men and women equally. Other life experiences divide the sexes. "Women are more sensitive to bad marriages than their husbands because they work harder at their relationships," says Dr Janice Glaser of Ohio State University. The message seems to be that a woman is better off with a good dog than a bad husband. Yet in some ways, men are similar to dogs. They like getting dirty and making a mess. They forget birthdays. They can disappear for days. How can they be better trained?1. according to the author, the company of a pet does good to a person in the following ways except ______.A. having less chance of dying of heart attacksB. being more active in societyC. having their family environment improvedD. being better off than others2. It can be inferred from the article that ______.A. a woman may prefer to have the company of a good dog than that of a bad husbandB. scientists are sure about the relationship between human happiness and a long lifeC. all life experiences have different effect on men and womenD. women can benefit more from owning a pet than men can3. In what kind of tone do you think the author write the passage?A. Realistic and serious.B. Delighted and hopeful.C. Angry and pitiful.D. Light and humorous4. Which of the following do you think would be the best title of the passage?A. Relationship between Humans and Pets.B. Four Legs Good, Two Legs Bad.C. Want to Be Loved? Get a Dog.D. Pets and Family Life.高BThe Dead Sea has been famous on earth since the ancient time. Its silence and curing powers have attracted people from bibliolaters(圣经崇拜者) to modem tourists. But the Dead Sea has been quietly dying for years. And the two states next to its shrinking (收缩) Israel and Jordan, face serious economic and ecological challenges in considering how to save the unique nature wonder of the world. They have begun to consider a "Red-Dead" solution — a canal to pump water from the Red Sea to the Dead Sea. But the huge costs and the risk of both damaging the Red’s famous coral reefs and weakening the Dead’s medicinal minerals, stand in the way.Known as the Dead Sea because nothing can live in it, the world’s saltiest body of water has fallen from 390 meters to 417 meters below the sea level in the last 50 years. The drop has sped up to a meter a year recently, making a third of its ancient 950 square km size lost. Modem economic are to blame —-taking too much Jordan River water that feeds the Dead Sea to rain-starved farmland.Hotels built along the beach are now a kilometer or more from the water’s edge. Retired Swiss couple Jean andEsther Haensenberger have been spending their yearly "kur" — a Central European tradition of taking medicinal baths to treat skill illness and Stress —- at Israel’s flagship Dead Sea Hotel since 1980s. At first, they could walk a few paces from the hotel to the beach for a float in windless waters, so floating that one can read a book while lying on one’s back. Now visitors board a tractor — drawn trolley that takes them a kilometer to the water."It’s over twice the distance out today. It’s sad. that another rare preserve of nature is disappearing," said Jean Haensenberger as he and his wife rode to the shore. "If the sea keeps going down, will people like us keep coming?"5. What’s the serious result the "Red-Dead" solution may cause?A. It may do damage to the nature of the two waters.B. It may cause water pollution.C. It may make medicinal materials disappear.D. It may cause floods.6. The main problem the Dead Sea faces is that______.A. there is little rain in this areaB. it is getting smaller and smallerC. more and more visitors visit itD. it is getting dirtier and dirtier7. One of the causes that make the Dead Sea dying is______.A. more and more hotelsB. less and less rainfallC. the growing tourismD. the development of agriculture8. The trouble tourists to the Dead Sea will have is that______.A. they have to go by airB. the weather is becoming worse and worseC. they have to go much farther from the hotel to the waterD. the water in the Dead Sea is becoming saltier and saltierCThe medical world is gradually realizing that the quality of the environment in the hospital may play an important role in helping patients to get better. As part of a nationwide effort in Britain to bring art out of the museums and into public places, some of thecountry’s best artists have been called in to change older hospitals and to soften the hard edges of modern buildings. Of the 2,500 national health service hospitals in Britain, almost 100 now have very valuable collections of present art in passages, waiting areas and treatment rooms. These recent movements were first started by one artist, Peter Senior, who set up his studio at a Manchester hospital on northeastern England during the early 1970s;He felt that the artist had lost his place in modem society, and that art should be enjoyed by a wider audience.A common hospital waiting room might have as many as 5,000 visitors each week. What a better place to hold regular exhibitions of art I Senior held the first exhibition of his own paintings in the outpatients waiting area of the Manchester Royal Hospital in 1975. Believed to be Britain’s first hospital artist, Senior was so much in demand that he was soon joined by a team of six young art school graduates. The effect is striking. Now in the passages and waiting rooms, the visitor experiences a full view of fresh colours, playful images (形象) and restful courtyards. The quality of the environment may reduce the need for expensive drugs when a patient is recovering from an illness. A study has shown that patients who have a view of garden needed half the number of strong pain killers compared with patients who have no view at all or only a brick wall to look at.9. Some best artists have been gathered to______.A. pull down older hospitals and build up new onesB. make the comers of the hospital building roundC. bring art into hospitalsD. help patients recover from illness10. From this text, we’ve learnt that ______.A. artists in Britain have completely lost their places in modem societyB. patients should be encouraged to learn artC. hospitals in Britain should be changed into art museumsD. art is encouraged to be introduced into British hospitals11. After the improvement of the hospital environment, ______.A. patients no longer need drugs to kill their painsB. patients needn’t buy any expensive drugsC. patients need fewer pain killers when they are getting better after illnessD. patients can take fewer pills each time12. It can be inferred from this text that ______.A. the role of hospital environment is being recognizedB. hospital artists have done a lot for patientsC. exhibitions of art in hospitals attract more audiences than those in museumsD. hospitals in Britain look more beautiful than those in other countriesDAftershocks shook northern Japan on Sunday, a day after a powerful earthquake killed at least 18 people and injured about 1000 people as houses collapsed and landslides devastated (破坏) a village, stranding (使处于困境) hundreds of people.Tens of thousands of fearful residents in the rural Niigata prefecture spent the night in evacuation centers; or outdoors after the initial quake with a magnitude of 6. 8 hit at 5:56 p. m. on Saturday. As daylight, broke, the full scale of the damage to the area, some 150 miles north of Tokyo, became evident. Roads buckled, a bullet train was derailed (出轨), and many landslides hit the largely mountainous region.Aerial pictures on television showed that a mudslide had engulfed (吞没) houses, roads and cars in the small village of Yamakoshi, cutting off some about 600 residents.TV showed soldiers in khaki uniforms trying to rescue a mother and a son trapped in a house wrecked (摧毁) by a landslide, using chain saws to cut their way through the rubble (碎石).In the city of Ojiya, the apparent scene of much of the damage, a large area of land under a rail line had caved in, forming a crater-like hole and leaving train tracks dangling.Elsewhere, the lopsided leading carriage of a bullet train rested on the side of its track, the first derailment since the high-speed service was introduced 40 years ago.Eight carriages of the train derailed, but there were no injuries, a Transport Ministry official said." We are desperately in need of food, water and blankets for the local residents," said an official in Ojiya, which has a population of 40,000.The quake knocked out power and phone services to at least 278,000 homes and water and gas services were disrupted. Many residents huddled under blankets in schools and other temporary shelters while some spent the night outside or in cars as temperatures fell to around 41 degrees Fahrenheit.More than 240 aftershocks that could be felt by humans had struck since the initial quake, the Meteorological Agency said, and officials warned of further strong tremors. The quake and aftershocks shook buildings in Tokyo but there were no reports of any injuries or major damage in the capital.13. Which statement is true according to the passage?A. The train in Japan has never derailed in the past 40 years.B. There were no reports of any injuries or major damage since the initial quake.C. There was no injuries after the train derailed.D. The local residents are desperately in need of money.14. Which of the following words can best describe the mood of the residents after the quake?A. Hopeless.B. Fearful.C. Sorrow.D. Bitter,15. What does the underline word "disrupted" probably mean?A. Cut off.B. Dix upC. Break down.D. Cut down.16. When did the initial quake happen?A. At night.B. In the morning;C. In the afternoon.D. At mid day.EGenerations of children who sat through endless lessons of "chalk and talk" in front of a bossy teacher can take some relief. But the "chalk and talk" method helped them achieve better exam results. Modem classroom techniques may make school days a good deal happier, but contentment (满足) is not the road to success in examinations, according to university researchers.Their three-year study, monitoring the progress of 2,000 teenagers, tried to measure the influence of the " boredom factor" in 17 selected schools in the north of England. The researchers also found that the old-fashioned approach (方法) of teachers ordering pupils about is still alive and producing results. Their conclusions were welcomed yesterday by educationists who were worried by the shift to less formal lessons. The pupils in the latest study were asked to award teachers marks to measure how frequently they followed or ignored today’s fashion for " child-centred" education. A five-point scale was given to spot the teachers who always told them what they should know and what to write down. " It was significant and not anything you would get by chance or accident. Certainly, when you compare the pupil’s interest and attitude to school, there is a quite definite and highly significant difference," one of the researchers said. But the rankings were turned upside down when the team of four researchers looked at how the’children did in examination. The sort of methods now frowned upon (不赞同) actually improve the final grades. The researchers said, "There is nothing wrong with old-fashioned, didactic (说教性的)teaching in the right place, even if it isn’t the flavor at the moment. "However, he insisted the best teachers had always mixed the two techniques to match the needs of pupils, although certain examinations forced some to concentrate more on dictation and learning by rote(死记硬背).17. University researchers have discovered that ______. ‘A. odern teaching methods provide students with entertainmentB. students taught by modem techniques are happy and successfulC. traditional teaching methods help students score higherD. students like old teaching better than modem teaching at school18. We can infer from Paragraph 3 that ______.A. child-centred education promotes friendship among childrenB. the research findings are not significant enough for a conclusionC. those who show greater interest in school did better in examsD. those who don’t show much interest in school may turn out to score higher in tests19. The researchers suggest that ______.A. more old methods be used in teachingB. students be taught how to score high in examsC. dictation be used as one of the best teaching methodsD. old and new methods be used together20. The best title for this text would be ______.A. The Examination-based TeachingB. Rote Learning Was The WinnerC. The Problem Of Child-cent red EducationD.
