Unit 1-1Catching crabs1 In the fall of our final year, our mood changed. The relaxed atmosphere of the preceding summer semester, the impromptu ball games, the boating on the Charles River, the late-night parties had disappeared, and we all started to get our heads down, studying late, and attendance at classes rose steeply again. We all sensed we were coming to the end of our stay here, that we would never get a chance like this again, and we became determined not to waste it. Most important of course were the final exams in April and May in the following year. No one wanted the humiliation of finishing last in class, so the peer group pressure to work hard was strong. Libraries which were once empty after five o'clock in the afternoon were standing room only until the early hours of the morning, and guys wore the bags under their eyes and their pale, sleepy faces with pride, like medals proving their diligence.2 But there was something else. At the back of everyone's mind was what we would do next, when we left university in a few months' time. It wasn't always the high flyers with the top grades who knew what they were going to do. Quite often it was the quieter, less impressive students who had the next stages of their life mapped out. One had landed a job in his brother's advertising firm in Madison Avenue, another had got a script under provisional acceptance in Hollywood. The most ambitious student among us was going to work as a party activist at a local level. We all saw him ending up in the Senate or in Congress one day. But most people were either looking to continue their studies, or to make a living with a white-collar job in a bank, local government, or anything which would pay them enough to have a comfortable time in their early twenties, and then settle down with a family, a mortgage and some hope of promotion.3 I went home at Thanksgiving, and inevitably, my brothers and sisters kept asking me what I was planning to do. I didn't know what to say. Actually, I did know what to say, but I thought they'd probably criticize me, so I told them what everyone else was thinking of doing.4 My father was watching me but saying nothing. Late in the evening, he invited me to his study. We sat down and he poured 抓螃蟹1.

对应的AR指数,初章⼤概AR2.7~AR5.0.

See you.”In the afternoon, 第二只little pig准时come to 市政府大楼. 她说, “This is the famous 第二只little pig. He can tell very good Chinese stories. A lot of UK children love t o hear his stories.” 市长赶紧握住第二只little pig的手说, “Hello, my dear friend, how are you?” “Fine, thank you. How are you?” “I am fine, too. Thank you. Sit down, please. I want to thank you for your stories. Your stories are very good. 剑桥children love to hearyour stories.” “I am happy they love my stories, but I have a 难题. Can you help me?” “什么难题? Tell me. I will help you.” OK, I can help you. Today, I will tell you a UK story. 以后you go back to China, 不就可以tell my UK story to Chinese children. “Yes, this is a good idea. Please tell me a story now.” The name of the story is Gelert is a faithful dog’.从前, there is a prince. He has a lot of dogs, but his dogs are very silly and slow. 每次the prince带他们go hunting, they cannot catch a deer. One day, a friend and his wife come to see the prince. They give the prince a dog. The name of the dog is Gelert. Gelert is a strong dog. He can run very fast. His daddy is a wolf. 自从有了Gelert, the prince每次go hunting都能带回a lot of deer and rabbits. Because Gelert can run very fast and can catch a lot of deer and rabbits. One day, the prince又要go hunting. 他说, “My dear dogs, let’s go hunting.” His dogs 都汪汪地come out, but Gelert没有come out. The prince说, “Gelert, please come out. Let’s go hunting.” 没办法, the prince只好带着其他的dogs go hunting, but 其他的dogs are very slow. 在树林里, they see a deer, but they cannot run very fast. 结果让the deer run away. 过了一会儿, they see a rabbit. But they cannot run very fast. 结果又让the rabbit run away. 最后, they see a sheep. They run and run and run, 追了10分钟才catch the sheep. The prince觉得这些dogs are very slow, 带他们go hunting真是没意思. 于是他就牵着那只sheep go back. 这是不是my baby’s blood? Gelert’s daddy is a wolf. 他会不会本性还是像wolf, and eat my baby?” 想到这里, the prince 就run into his baby’s room. His baby不见了. There is a lot of blood in his room. The prince 认为his baby一定是被Gelert吃掉了. He is very angry. 啊, 原来his baby就在bed底下, his baby身边还有一只wolf. The prince 突然understand. Gelert没有eat his baby, 而是为了保护his baby特地留在城堡, 没有跟他出去go hunting. Gelert为了保护his baby, 拼命跟wolf搏斗, 最后kill the wolf. The prince is very sorry, but sorry已经太晚了. 他已经kill Gelert. The prince抱着his baby跪在Gelert跟前, 痛苦地哭起来, “Gelert, I am very sorry. I am very sorry. Gelert, you are a faithful dog. You are very faithful to me. I want to 永远纪念你. I want people 也永远纪念你.” 纪念碑上刻着five words: Gelert is a faithful dog. This is a real story. If you go to UK的西部, you can see the纪念碑. You can see the five words. ‘Gelert is a faithful dog.’ Do you like this story?” 第三只little pig说, “Yes, I do. This story is very good. I will tell this story to Chinese children. Thank you for your story.” 市长说, “You are welcome. Bye-bye.”

1Should the College Students Choose the Subject by ThemselvesMost courses in universities and colleges today are compulsory, however, there are a few courses that are optional.Despite its small percentage, optional courses have given rise to the question whether college students should choose their courses at their own wills. As far as I am concerned, I think college students should be encouraged to choose courses they are interested in.As the saying goes, "Interest is the best teacher".Students will certainly study more efficiently the subjects they willingly choose than the ones they are forced to choose. What’s more, because the subjects they choose are no longer a burden, they may become more active in the study concerned. So I incline to say that colleges and universities should set up more optional courses for students to choose. 2Alongwith the development of our education, today most universities have offeredvarious electives for students to choose and study. However, some people claimthat these elective courses have very little effect on spreading knowledge andstudents’ development because what students concernabout when choosingelectives are so different.Thereare various kinds of reasons for choosing electives and I list some in here.Primarily, the most important and wide factor students concern about is theteachers of the courses. Instead considering the quality of the teacher, or theform or style of the teacher will take or act in the course, they just want tomake sure that the teacher they choose will never keep trace of theirattendance and let them fail in their exams. In addition, a large number ofstudents choose their elective courses aiming to get a high score but neverconsider what they will learn and how to apply to it. What’s worse, somestudents choose their electives j ust they are forced by their schools’institution demand and their score need.Asfar as I am concerned, I advocate that the most important thing we shouldconcern about when choosing electives is our personal interests. The mostworthy meaning for these electives is to broaden our horizon and extend ourknowledge as much as possible and to complement our major and compulsorycourses. Therefore, what electives we choose should be in accordance with ourinterests and our career planning instead of aiming to make high score or passthe exam. 3This term our school laid down a new rule about selective court. For the first two weeks, we may sit in as many classes as we like before we decide on which courses to choose. We jumped for joy. The first week I attended classes for four evenings on end and found out that most of the teachers took it serioualy. They were busy in "winning votes" for fear, that later on no one would attend their lectures. For example, the teacher of Modern Literature of Taiwan said,"Actually the first two hours of my lecture were only a prelude. The real contents have not been involved. In the furore, we shall discuss such famous writers as Qiong Yao, Xi Murong, etc, and such famous aetresses as Lin Fengjiao, Lin Qingxia etc. We have lots of vedio-taped films to watch. These are confined only to those who co-major in this court." See, after all, the last sentence is the core of everything he said. The teacher of Appreciation and Critics of Modern Opera said, "We have a variety of contents and the teaching method is changable. For instance, l may choose one act from a play and let you perform it in class. If you do a good job, you can put on the play at the school theater festival. Also, we shall arrange for you to watch current plays. The school is in charge of the traffic and tickets, Of course, only those who co-major this course are eligible." You see, the most important thing comes at last through twists and turns. 4In college, every student needs to take optional classes to get enough credits Such as how to keep healthy and business manners.

1The Magic Tree House: The Amazing RideI still can't believe the wild adventure I just went on with my best friend Jack! It all started when we were hanging out in the tree house in the woods behind Jack's house like we do all the time. We had just finished reading the latest book in the Magic Tree House series by Mary Pope Osborne called "The Amazing Ride."In the book, Jack and Annie, the main characters who are also brother and sister, travel back in time on more crazy adventures. This time they went back to the Ice Age to learn about woolly mammoths and saber-toothed cats! It sounded like such an exciting journey. As Jack and I were talking about the book, I said how cool it would be if we could actually go back in time and see those prehistoric creatures up close. Jack agreed it would be awesome, but obviously that could never happen in real life. Or so we thought!Suddenly, the tree house started shaking like crazy. The pages of the book we had sitting open flipped rapidly by themselves as if a huge gust of wind was blowing through, even though it was a totally still evening. Before we knew what hit us, Jack and I were spinning around and around, holding on for dear life. When we finally stopped spinning, we were no longer in Jack's backyard tree house. We were in a completely different tree house in the middle of a snowy landscape with huge mountains in the distance. Next to the tree house was a woolly mammoth munching on some plants! We couldn't believe our eyes."Where are we?" Jack asked in a shaky voice. Just then, a young girl climbed down some rope rungs on the tree house. It was Annie from the Magic Tree House books!"You made it!" she exclaimed. "I was worried when I saw that bright light and heard the crash that you two got lost somewhere else in time."Jack and I just looked at each other in shock. The tree house books had come to life and somehow transported us to the Ice Age! Annie went on to explain that her brother Jack was off exploring and would be back soon. In the meantime, she wasexcited for us to learn all about mammoths, saber-toothed cats, and other Ice Age beasts.Over the next few hours, we had the most insane experience. We got to watch a mammoth very closely as it ripped off tree bark with its huge trunk to eat. We saw enormous cave bears emerge from hibernation. And we even spotted a pack of saber-toothed cats hunting for prey in the distance! We learned so much about these incredible animals that have been extinct for tens of thousands of years.Just when we thought things couldn't get any wilder, we heard a deafening roar and the ground started shaking. A giant woolly mammoth stormed out from behind a hill, angrily flaring its trunk and stamping huge feet that left craters in the ground. It was charging straight towards us!"Don't move a muscle!" Annie whispered urgently. "Mammoths can trample anything in their path if threatened."We all stood completely still, hardly daring to breathe, as the colossal beast got closer and closer. I couldn't believe this was actually happening! Just as I feared we were all goners, Jack came running up behind the mammoth wildly waving a burning torch and yelling. The startled mammoth spun around and thundered away in the opposite direction to flee from the threat."Phew, that was a close one!" Jack exclaimed, giving us all a big hug. "Good thing mammoths are in danger, not carnivores like saber-toothed cats!"We all laughed with relief and amazement at the close encounter. That's when I noticed the medallion Jack was wearing that looked just like the one in the books. He must have used it to travel here to the Ice Age and meet up with Annie.Soon after that heart-pounding mammoth scare, Annie told us we'd have to return to our own time and place soon. She gave us special satchels filled with little souvenirs of our time in the Ice Age like a mammoth tusk fossil and a saber-toothed cat tooth. So cool!Just then, the tree house started shaking again and we were whirled around in that same crazy vortex. The next thing I knew, I was lying back in Jack's backyard tree house just as the sun was beginning to set. I couldn't believe we had traveled back from over 10,000 years in the past in the blink of an eye!Jack and I looked around in awe, then opened our satchels to look at the fossils and shells we had collected. It was proof that our remarkable journey to the Ice Age with the Magic Tree House crew had indeed happened! We just experienced something most people could only dream of.As we were gushing about the incredible adventure we had gone on, Annie and Jack climbed back into the tree house. Except this time, they were the Annie and Jack from our present time that we had grown up with, not the ones from the books."Did you two have a good time traveling back to the Ice Age with us?" Annie asked with a smile. "I can't wait for you to read all about our next adventure!"With that, the two of them were gone again in another bright vortex. Jack and I just looked at each other in amazement, wondering what other unbelievable experiences the Magic Tree House might have in store. All I knew was that I couldn't wait to go on another mind-blowing journey with my friends! It's going to be an amazing ride.篇2The Magic Tree House: The Amazing RideI absolutely love the Magic Tree House book series by Mary Pope Osborne! The books follow the adventures of Jack and Annie, two regular kids who discover a tree house filled with books that can magically transport them through time and space. Each book takes them on a thrilling journey to a different point in history or a different part of the world. One of my favorite books in the series is "The Amazing Ride." In this story, Jack and Annie get a magical assignment from Morgan le Fay to go back in time and try to learn the secrets of some of the earliest explorers and inventors. Their first stop is ancient China, where they meet the famous explorer Zheng He and get to sail on one of his massive treasure ships.I thought it was so cool how the book brought the voyages of Zheng He to life. He was a real historical figure who led huge fleets of ships on incredible journeys across the Indian Ocean in the early 1400s. The descriptions of his gigantic "treasure ships" with nine masts and crews of hundreds of sailors made me feel like I was right there on deck, looking out at the vast blue sea. After leaving ancient China, Jack and Annie's tree house takes them to Renaissance-era Italy. Here they meet the great inventor and artist Leonardo da Vinci and get to see some of his fantastic designs and creations up close. I loved learning about all of da Vinci's incredible ideas - like his concepts for a helicopter, a tank, concentrated solar power, and even a rudimentary robot!Da Vinci seems like he was the ultimate Renaissance man - an artist, scientist, inventor, and free thinker all rolled into one. The scenes in the book where Jack and Annie watch himsketching ideas and working on mechanical prototypes were captivating. It really brought home how revolutionary and ahead-of-his-time da Vinci was. I can see why he's still renowned as one of the greatest geniuses who ever lived, even 500 years later! The last leg of Jack and Annie's journey takes them to Russia in the early 1700s to meet the great tsar, Peter the Great. What's really cool is that Peter spent a lot of time traveling across Europe, learning about western technology and trying to bring Russia into the modern world. In the book, Jack and Annie get to join Peter on a visit to some shipyards in Holland where he's studying naval engineering.I loved the descriptions of the bustling shipyards, with ships being built, masts being raised, and sailors hard at work absolutely everywhere you looked. And Peter was like a sponge, asking a million questions of the Dutch ship builders and taking tons of notes on every little detail of their advanced techniques. It made me have a lot of respect for how dedicated Peter was to acquiring new knowledge that could help modernize and strengthen Russia.By riding along with these daring explorers, innovative thinkers, and determined leaders, Jack and Annie (and readerslike me!) get to experience some of the most important developments and discoveries in human history first-hand. We're there as Zheng He's colossal fleets open up maritime trade routes across the Indian Ocean. We watch up close as Leonardo da Vinci fills his notebooks with futuristic inventions. And we see the intense curiosity that drove Peter the Great to study the leading science and technology of his day. Each time I read "The Amazing Ride," I'm struck by how these historical figures defied conventional thinking and weren't afraid to explore uncharted waters (literally, in Zheng He's case!). Their courage, creativity, and thirst for knowledge allowed them to make incredible contributions that still impact our world today. The Magic Tree House books don't just entertain, but inspire young people to approach life with that same spirit of adventure, innovation, and curiosity.Whether it's building an experimental go-kart, or designing a video game, or finding a new way to reduce plastic waste, I think every kid has an inner explorer, inventor, or visionary inside them just waiting to be unlocked. Books like "The Amazing Ride" feed that spark of imagination and remind us that with determination and an open mind, we too can go on to do amazing things and change the world. As Jack's friend Kathleensays at the end of the story, "Being curious and using your mind is the first amazing ride." I couldn't agree more!篇3The Amazing Ride by Mary Pope Osborne: A Magical Journey Through TimeHey there, Fun Fun English readers! It's me again, coming at you with another book review. This time, I'm diving into the wild and wonderful world of the Magic Tree House series by Mary Pope Osborne. Specifically, we're going to explore the epic adventure found in book number 27 – "The Amazing Ride"!Now, if you're not already familiar with the Magic Tree House books, let me give you a quick rundown. The series follows the crazy cool escapades of two kids, Jack and Annie, who discover a treehouse filled with books that can magically transport them through time and space. Talk about the ultimate field trip!In "The Amazing Ride," Jack and Annie find themselves whisked away to the American prairie in the late 1800s. And let me tell you, this is no ordinary trip to the countryside. Nope, they end up smack dab in the middle of a hair-raising race against a bunch of cowboys on the legendary Pony Express trail!Right from the get-go, the action is non-stop. Jack and Annie have to saddle up and ride alongside theserough-and-tumble Pony Express riders, braving treacherous terrain, wild animals, and even some unsavory outlaws. It's like an old-school Western movie, but they're living it for real! What I love about this book is how it brings history to life in the most thrilling way possible. Sure, we've all learned about the Pony Express in school, but reading a textbook can't even compare to galloping alongside these brave riders as they risk their lives to deliver the mail. Talk about an adrenaline rush! And let's not forget about the amazing detail Osborne packs into her descriptions. From the vast, rolling prairies to the dusty frontier towns, I could vividly picture every scene unfolding before my eyes. It's like being transported back in time myself! But "The Amazing Ride" isn't just a wild adventure story – it's also a heartwarming tale of friendship and courage. Jack and Annie have to rely on each other every step of the way, facing challenges that would test even the bravest of cowboys. Their bond grows stronger with each obstacle they overcome, reminding us that true friendship can conquer anything. And let's be real, Jack and Annie are just downright cool characters. Jack is the level-headed, responsible one, alwaystrying to keep them out of too much trouble. Annie, on the other hand, is the daring, adventurous spirit, constantly pushing them into exciting (and sometimes scary) situations. Together, they make the perfect duo to lead us on these magical journeys.Of course, no Magic Tree House book would be complete without the delightfully quirky rewards they earn at the end of each adventure. This time, they bring back a pouch filled with...well, you'll have to read the book to find out! But trust me, it's an awesome souvenir from their wild ride on the Pony Express trail. All in all, "The Amazing Ride" is a must-read for any Magic Tree House fan or anyone who loves a rollicking good adventure. It's packed with heart-pounding action, fascinating historical details, and valuable lessons about friendship and perseverance. So what are you waiting for? Saddle up and join Jack and Annie on their amazing ride across the American frontier. Just be sure to hold on tight – it's going to be one heck of a journey!Rating: 5 out of 5 golden books. This one deserves a permanent spot on your bookshelf!。

UNIT 1 An impressive English lesson

UNIT 1 An impressive English lesson

An impressive English lesson1 If I am the only parent who still corrects his child's English, then perhaps my son is right. To him, I am a tedious oddity: a father he is obliged to listen to and a man absorbed in the rules of grammar, which my son seems allergic to.2 I think I got serious about this only recently when I ran into one of my former students, fresh from an excursion to Europe. "How was it?" I asked, full of earnest anticipation.3 She nodded three or four times, searched the heavens for the right words, and then exclaimed, "It was, like, whoa!"4 And that was it. The civilization of Greece and the glory of Roman architecture were captured in a condensed non-statement. My student's "whoa!" was exceeded only by my head-shaking distress.5There are many different stories about the downturn in the proper use of English. Surely students should be able to distinguish between their/there/they're or the distinctive difference between complimentary and complementary. They unfairly bear the bulk of the criticism for these knowledge deficits because there is a sense that they should know better.6 Students are not dumb, but they are being misled everywhere they look and listen. For example, signs in grocery stores point them to the stationary, even though the actual stationery items —pads, albums and notebooks — are not nailed down. Friends and loved ones often proclaim they've just ate when, in fact, they've just eaten. Therefore, it doesn't make any sense to criticize our students.

Lesson30ALetterfromLiMing(冀教版第六册学英语教材)

Lesson30. A Letter from LiMing

和Thisis for……

Did LiMing have a good trip in Beijing?Did he go to Wangfujing street to buy gifts? What did he buy there? Here are some pictures of LiMing 、Danny and Jenny’s trip to Beijing.Let’s say about the pictures. For example:Here are some pictures of LiMing 、Danny and Jenny’s trip to Beijing.(举起第一幅图片)This is LiMing at the Tian’anmen Square.

1Last summer, my family took an amazing trip to Hawaii. We went snorkeling and saw colorful fish and coral reefs. I even spotted a sea turtle! We also hiked through a lush rainforest and swam under a beautiful waterfall. The best part was visiting an active volcano. From a safe distance, we watched red lava bubbling and oozing down the slopes. Hawaii's stunning natural scenery made it an unforgettable adventure. I can't wait to go back someday!篇2Here's an interesting travel essay written from a student's perspective, around 2000 words in length:An Unforgettable Journey to the Swiss AlpsIt was the summer before my freshman year of high school, and my family had decided to take a trip to Switzerland. I had always dreamed of visiting the majestic Swiss Alps, with their snow-capped peaks and picturesque valleys. Little did I knowthat this trip would turn out to be one of the most adventurous and memorable experiences of my life. The journey began with a long flight from our hometown to Zurich, the largest city in Switzerland. As we stepped out of the airport, the crisp mountain air hit us like a refreshing wave. We hopped into our rental car and set off for the small village of Grindelwald, nestled in the heart of the Bernese Oberland region. The drive itself was breathtaking. Winding roads snaked through lush green meadows, dotted with quaint wooden chalets and grazing cows adorned with tinkling bells. Towering above us were the colossal peaks of the Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau – a trio of mountains that seemed to touch the sky.Upon arriving in Grindelwald, we checked into our cozy chalet-style hotel, complete with a balcony that offered a stunning view of the Fiescherhorn glacier. After settling in, we decided to explore the village on foot. Cobblestone streets lined with charming shops and cafés exuded an old-world charm that instantly transported us back in time. The next day, we embarked on our first alpine adventure – a cable car ride up to the First summit, which stands at an impressive 2,168 meters above sea level. As the car ascended, the landscape transformed from lush greenery to rugged rockformations and pristine snowfields. At the top, we were greeted by a panoramic vista of the surrounding peaks, with the Eiger's iconic north face looming majestically in the distance. But the real thrill came when we strapped on our hiking boots and set out on one of the many trails that crisscrossed the alpine meadows. We trekked through fields of wildflowers, past babbling streams, and over narrow bridges that spanned deep crevasses. Every turn revealed a new and breathtaking view, making us feel as if we had stepped into a world straight out of a fairytale. One of the highlights of our trip was a visit to the Jungfraujoch, the highest railway station in Europe at an elevation of 3,454 meters. We took a train that tunneled through the heart of the Eiger and emerged at the "Top of Europe," where we were greeted by a vast expanse of eternal snow and ice. Walking on the glacier was a surreal experience, and the panoramic views from the observation deck were simply stunning. But our adventure didn't stop there. We also had the opportunity to try our hand at traditional Swiss activities like cheese-making and alphorn-blowing. We even attended a local folk festival, where we danced to the lively tunes of an alphornensemble and sampled delicious Swiss delicacies like fondue and rösti. As our time in the Swiss Alps drew to a close, I found myself feeling a mix of emotions. On one hand, I was filled with a sense of accomplishment and awe at having experienced such natural beauty and cultural richness. On the other hand, I felt a twinge of sadness at having to leave this magical place behind.Looking back, this trip taught me invaluable lessons about embracing new experiences, appreciating the wonders of nature, and stepping out of my comfort zone. The memories of hiking through alpine meadows, marveling at towering peaks, and immersing myself in Swiss culture will forever be etched in my mind as a reminder of the incredible journey I embarked on in the Swiss Alps.篇3An Unforgettable Adventure in the Swiss AlpsIt was the summer before I started 8th grade, and my family had decided to take an epic trip to Switzerland. I had been looking forward to this vacation for months – visions of hiking through stunning mountain scenery, taking a cable car up soaring peaks, and eating lots of delicious Swiss chocolatedanced in my head. Little did I know just how incredible and utterly mind-blowing this adventure would turn out to be!We flew into Geneva and then took a train through the countryside to the charming village of Zermatt, our base for exploring the amazing Swiss Alps. Zermatt is a ski resort town with no cars allowed – you have to take electric vehicles or walk everywhere. It has this old-world, fairytale ambiance with chalet-style buildings, cobblestone streets, and the iconic Matterhorn mountain looming over it all. We stayed at this really cool hotel built in the traditional Swiss style with lots of carved wood and bright flower boxes. On our first full day there, we decided to start with one of the most famous hikes in the area – the 5-Lakes Trail. This picturesque route winds through green meadows and pine forests, passing by five incredibly blue and pristine lakes. With my parents, little brother, and our hiking guide, we set off on the trail lined with bright wildflowers like edelweiss. The scenery was just breathtaking at every turn. Those lakes were the most insane shades of turquoise and aquamarine, surrounded by towering mountain peaks with lingering patches of snow. At one point we walked across this cool suspended footbridge over a roaring river of icy meltwater. Halfway through the hike, we had a picniclunch at a meadow with marmots scurrying around and huge waterfalls thundering down cliffs nearby. So amazing! The next couple days, we took cable cars and littlecog-wheel trains up to various viewpoints for epic vistas of the Alps. One morning we rode up to the Gornergrat ridge which is like 10,000 feet high with 360-degree views of over 20 different mountain peaks and massive glaciers. It was freezing cold up there since we were basically standing on a ridge of ice and snow, but the panoramic views were just insane. Like looking out over a wilderness of hulking grey giants covered in blindingly white snow and ice. We took a guided hike along the ridge while our guide pointed out legendary peaks like the Matterhorn and Dufourspitze.Another day we took a series of cable cars and lifts allllll the way up to the famous Matterhorn Glacier Paradise at 12,700 feet! You could actually go out and walk around on the actual glacier up there. As we approached the glacier area, we had to walk through this crazy tunnel drilled straight through the inner ice of the glacier. Emerging out on to the glacier itself was like stepping onto another planet. Endless stretches of brilliant blue ice and snow whipping around in freezing winds. We strapped on these special crampon shoes to trek across the slipperyglacier following our mountain guide. At one point he had us all lie flat and look straight down through this crevasse – it was basicallyan endless icy blue chasm disappearing vertically down into darkness. So wild! That night after the glacier excursion, we were all exhausted and ready for some chill time. We checked out Zermatt's adorable downtown area filled with chalet-style shops, bakeries, and restaurants. For dinner, we ate at this super cozy place with wood-beamed ceilings and tall mugs of hot chocolate loaded with whipped cream. I got a plate of the classic Swiss rösti (those delicious swiss potato pancakes) covered in an ocean of melted raclette cheese. So warm, gooey, and absolutely divine after a long day on the glacier! That evening, we wandered through town gazing at all the twinkling lights and stopped at this famous Swiss chocolatier to load up on lots of scrumptious souvenirs. On our last full day, we had signed up for an "authentic alpinexperience" with some local alpine farmers and cheesemakers. In the morning, we took a ferry boat across a glassy mountain lake to this working dairy farm set on a gorgeous hillside meadow. At the farm, we got to watch thealpine herders bring the cows in from the high mountainpastures, clanging their huge cow bells as they ambled along. We helped out with milking the cows and then got to observe the whole cheesemaking process of turning that fresh milk into delicious alpine cheese right there. For lunch, the farm family cooked up a delectable spread of classic Swiss dishes like rosti, raculette cheese, and dried meat specialties. We ate our fill surrounded by the most篇4An Awesome Trip to RememberYou'll never believe the crazy adventure I had this past summer! My family and I went on this epic trip to Australia and it was just the coolest experience ever. I'm going to tell you all about the hilarious stuff that happened because you're just going to die when you hear about it.So we landed in Sydney after a super long flight from Los Angeles. I was already exhausted from the plane ride, but my parents insisted we had to start sightseeing right away to "make the most of our time." Ugh, parents, am I right? They dragged me and my little brother William all over the city that first day. We saw the Sydney Opera House, the Harbour Bridge, Darling Harbour, the Royal Botanic Gardens...it was nonstop! The next morning, bright and early, we drove out to the Blue Mountains. Can you guess why they're called the Blue Mountains? Because they actually look kind of blue from a distance! It's not just a random name. Wild, right? We hiked through the mountains and forests, saw scenic waterfalls, and took a million pictures of the bright blue haze over the valleys and canyons. It was beautiful but I have to admit, my feet were absolutely killing me after all that walking.A couple days later, we went to the Taronga Zoo in Sydney. That place was epic! We saw kangaroos (of course), koalas, wombats, wallabies, and more Australian animals than you can imagine. But the best part was the elephant encounter where you could feed the elephants! A huge African elephant stuck its trunk right in my face and grabbed a banana from my hand with its massive tongue. I nearly peed my pants, I was so startled! Will hasn't stopped teasing me about the look on my face.Speaking of Will, that little brat got us all stuck in an elevator at our hotel one day. He thought it would be sooooo funny to press all the buttons, but the elevator got overloaded with people and just stopped working in between floors. We were crammed in there for like an hour before someone was able to rescue us. My mom nearly killed him!Anyway, enough about dumb stuff like that. The best day by far was when we went scuba diving at the Great Barrier Reef. I'd never tried anything like that before and I was a little nervous, but our instructor was really cool and showed us what to do. The reef was absolutely breathtaking underwater! Everywhere you looked there were vividly colorful coral, fish, sharks, turtles, you name it. It felt like something out of a nature documentary. Just indescribably beautiful.I really didn't want to leave the Great Barrier Reef, but sadly our trip was coming to an end. On our very last day in Sydney, we climbed up the iconic Sydney Harbour Bridge on a Bridge Climb tour. I'm terrified of heights, so I was low-key freaking out the whole time, but I managed to make it across while securely harnessed to the bridge. The views from the top were worth the panic attack! You could see the entire city, the opera house, the harbor, everything. It was such an epic way to say farewell to Sydney.I have to admit, Australia totally blew my expectations out of the water (no pun intended!). The people were so friendly, the food was out of this world, and the scenery was just unreal. From the beaches to the rainforests to the reef to the towns, everything was picture-perfect. I'll never forget swimming withdolphins, petting kangaroos, exploring rainforest hiking trails, and all the other amazing experiences I had.My friends are all crazy jealous that I got to go on such an unforgettable adventure down under. Australia is definitely one of the coolest places I've ever been. I'm not exaggerating when I say it was 100% the trip of a lifetime! As soon as I can save up enough money, I'm going to go back and explore even more of this awesome country. Maybe I'll even get to see the Outback next time. A girl can dream, right? If you ever get a chance to take a trip to Australia, TAKE IT! You won't regret it for a second.篇5An Unforgettable Adventure in the Amazon RainforestAs the small plane descended through the clouds, I caught my first glimpse of the vast green expanse of the Amazon rainforest stretching out below. My heart raced with excitement and trepidation at the thought of spending two weeks immersed in one of the most biodiverse ecosystems on the planet. This was the adventure I had been dreaming about for months, and I could hardly believe it was finally happening. Our group of ten students and two teacher chaperones had been preparing for this trip for what felt like an eternity. We hadread countless books and articles about the Amazon, learned basic Portuguese phrases, and packed every essential item imaginable into our backpacks. Still, nothing could have fully prepared us for the sights, sounds, and smells that assaulted our senses the moment we stepped off the plane and onto the small landing strip in the heart of the Brazilian rainforest. The air was thick and humid, enveloping us in a warm, muggy embrace. The cacophony of animal calls was deafening –howler monkeys roaring, parrots squawking, and insects buzzing all around us. The pungent aroma of damp earth and decaying vegetation filled our nostrils, a scent so intense and distinctive that it would forever be seared into my memory. After a brief orientation from our local guides, we embarked on our first jungle hike. The narrow trail wound its way through a labyrinth of towering trees, their trunks adorned with vines and their canopies filtering the bright sunlight into a kaleidoscope of greens and shadows. Every few steps, our guides would pause to point out some fascinating plant or animal, rattling off scientific names and intricate details about their behaviors and adaptations. One particularly memorable encounter was with a family of tamarin monkeys. These tiny primates, no larger than a squirrel, scampered through the branches above our heads, their big eyes watching us with curiosity. Our guide motioned for us to sit perfectly still, and within moments, one of the bolder tamarins had descended to eye level, its delicate fingers grasping the thin branches as it inspected us, its tail twitching with excitement. As the days passed, we hiked deeper into the rainforest, our boots sinking into the spongy soil with each step. We waded through shallow streams, the cool water a welcome respite from the oppressive heat. We slept in hammocks slung between the trees, lulled to sleep by the orchestra of nocturnal creatures all around us.One night, our guides took us on a night hike, equipping us with powerful flashlights to pierce the inky blackness. The forest took on an entirely different persona after dark, teeming with life that remained hidden during the day. We spotted a sloth clinging motionless to a branch, its bulging eyes reflecting the beam of our flashlights. A tarantula the size of a dinner plate scurried across the trail, its hairy legs leaving imprints in the soft earth.Perhaps the most incredible experience was our encounter with a massive anaconda, the largest snake species in the world. Our guide, with nerves of steel, carefully pulled the massivereptile from the underbrush, its muscular coils thicker than my arm. As it slithered languidly across the forest floor, I couldn't help but feel a mixture of awe and primal fear at the sheer power and majesty of this apex predator. As our time in the Amazon drew to a close, I found myself torn between excitement to return home and a profound sadness at having to leave this verdant paradise behind. The rainforest had cast its spell on me, and I knew that a part of me would forever remain there, intertwined with the twisted vines and towering trees. On our final night, as I lay in my hammock listening to the symphony of the jungle, I reflected on the countless wonders I had witnessed over the past two weeks. The Amazon was so much more than just a lush jungle teeming with exotic flora and fauna. It was a living, breathing entity, a complex tapestry of life woven together over millions of years, each thread playing an essential role in the grand design. As I drifted off to sleep, I silently vowed to do my part to protect this incredible place, to ensure that future generations would have the opportunity to experience its magic firsthand. The Amazon had forever changed me, igniting a passion for conservation and a deep appreciation for the fragile beauty ofour planet. This adventure was more than just a trip – it was a life-altering journey that would shape the person I would become.篇6An Unforgettable Adventure: My Trip to the Amazon RainforestAs the plane descended towards the lush green canopy of the Amazon rainforest, my heart raced with excitement and a hint of apprehension. This wasn't your typical family vacation to the beach or a theme park – it was an adventure of a lifetime, and I couldn't wait to embark on this extraordinary journey. The first thing that struck me as we landed in Manaus, the gateway to the Amazon, was the oppressive humidity. The air felt thick and heavy, like a warm, damp blanket enveloping me. But the discomfort was quickly overshadowed by the sheer beauty of our surroundings. Towering trees stretched as far as the eye could see, their branches intertwined in an intricate tapestry of green. Our first stop was a small eco-lodge nestled deep in the heart of the rainforest. The rustic accommodations were simple but charming, with thatched roofs and hammocks swayinggently on the porches. As we settled in, our guide, a local indigenous man named João, greeted us with a w arm smile and a twinkle in his eye."Welcome to my home," he said, gesturing to the vast expanse of the Amazon surrounding us. "This is a place like no other, where nature's wonders unfold in ways you could never imagine."And he wasn't exaggerating. Over the next few days, we embarked on a series of unforgettable adventures that left me in awe of the rainforest's majesty. One day, we ventured into the depths of the jungle, following narrow trails that wound through the dense vegetation. João pointed out an array of fascinating plants and animals, from the towering kapok trees to the tiny, colorful poison dart frogs that hopped along the forest floor. We even spotted a sloth lazily clinging to a branch, its movements so slow and deliberate that it seemed frozen in time.Another highlight was our excursion along the mighty Amazon River. We boarded a small motorized canoe and glided through the murky waters, the sound of the engine's gentle purr mingling with the calls of exotic birds and the occasional splash of a jumping fish. João regaled us with tales of the river's richhistory and the indigenous communities that have called it home for centuries. But perhaps the most memorable experience was our night hike through the rainforest. As the sun dipped below the horizon, a whole new world came alive around us. Nocturnal creatures emerged from their hiding places, their eyes glowing in the darkness. João shone his flashlight on a tarantula perched on a tree trunk, its hairy legs and massive body sending shivers down my spine. We also spotted a kinkajou, a small mammal that resembled a cross between a monkey and a ferret, scampering along the branches overhead.Throughout our stay, I couldn't help but marvel at the sheer diversity and resilience of the Amazon ecosystem. Despite facing numerous threats from deforestation, mining, and climate change, this incredible place continued to thrive, sheltering countless species of plants and animals found nowhere else on Earth. As our time in the Amazon drew to a close, I felt a profound sense of gratitude and humility. This trip had opened my eyes to the wonders of the natural world and the importance of preserving it for future generations. The memories of the lush greenery, the cacophony of animal calls, and the warmhospitality of our indigenous hosts would forever be etched in my mind.On the flight home, I gazed out the window at the vast expanse of the Amazon below, its rivers snaking like veins through the verdant landscape. I knew that this experience had changed me in ways I couldn't yet fully comprehend. The Amazon had left an indelible mark on my soul, and I vowed to carry its lessons with me wherever life's journey might lead.。
