Step1. Revision
Translate some sentences to review language points in Part Reading.
Step2. Lead-in
1.Have a free talk with Ss like this:
What day is today?
How many days are there in a week?
What’ s the date today?
How many days are there in May?
Which class are you in ?
How many students are there in your class?
2.Write the numbers on the blackboard. And tell Ss these are cardinal numbers.
Step3. Cardinal numbers
1.We use cardinal numbers almost every day. We use them to talk about the numbers
of people or things.
2.Are you good at Maths? Who is good at Maths in our class? Then give some
maths problems to ask some Ss to do them quickly and correctly. Try to help them recall small numbers.
e.g. What’s five and six?
What’s four and eight?
3.Show some pictures and charts. Talk with Ss about the number of students, the
distance between two places and so on to teach large numbers. Write new words on the blackboard and help Ss learn to read.
4.Ask Ss to try to read some numbers in Part A and read the numbers under the chart.
Ask Ss to pay attention to the word ‘and’ between tens digit and units digit.
5.Show Ss how to read numbers in different places:
①“几十几”十位和个位之间用“—”。
e.g. 32 thirty-two
②101—999 百位和十位间加“and”.e.g. 928 nine hundred and twenty-eight
③1000以上的数,从后往前每三位一段,倒数第一个数读thousand,倒数第二个数读million,依次类推。
e.g. 8,542,601 eight million, five hundred and forty-three thousand, six hundred and one
④在手机号码、门牌号码、车牌号码等中“0”读作“o”
6. Here’s some information about different countries. Can you read these sentences on your book? Help Ss read them correctly.
Step4. Ordinal numbers
1.Ask Ss to read the sentences in Part B. Then tell them we can use ordinal numbers
to order things and events. We use them to talk about dates, floors, positions, etc.

her write them out in words. Check their answers together and ask them pay attention to some spellings, such as ninth, twelfth, twentieth.
3.Finish Part B2 and read the sentences out.
4.Give some words and ask Ss to look up in the dictionary. Then tell us where they
can find the words by using cardinal numbers and ordinal numbers.
e.g. This word is on page 200. This word is on the 200th page.
Step5. Practice
Work in pairs to make a conversation by using the information in the chart.
