一、动词-ing 形式的时态、语态及意义
Hearing the news ,they immediately set off.听到这个消息,他们立即出发了。

Having written a letter ,I listened to music for a while.写完信后,我听了一会儿音乐。

Having been held back by the traffic jam,she couldn't get there on time.她被交通阻塞耽搁了,无法准时到达那里。

二、动词-ing形式作状语的种类
现在分词作状语时,表示的动作是主语动作的一部分,用来修饰谓语动词,常表示动作发生的时间、原因、条件、结果、方式、伴随、让步等情况,并可以转换成相应的状语从句或并列句。

1.表示时间
动词-ing形式在句中作时间状语,可对应转化为when,after等引导的时间状语从句。

Having made full preparations(=After we have made full preparations),we are ready for the examination.
做了充分的准备之后,我们准备参加考试。

Hearing the result(=When I heard the result),I couldn't help jumping.听到这个结果,我情不自禁地跳了起来。

2.表示原因
动词-ing形式在句中作原因状语,可对应转化为as,since,because等引导的原因状语从句。

由于生病了,他被送去了医院。

Having lived in the city many years(=Since I had lived in the city many years),I knew it well.

3.表示伴随或方式
动词-ing形式作伴随或方式状语,说明动作发生的背景或情况。

它表示分词的动作和主句的动作同时发生。

作伴随或方式的动词-ing短语相当于and连接的并列成分。
