Key words:China,America, similarities, differences, education, religion, food Differences between the Chinese and American culturesAs we know ,there are many differences between Chinese and American cultures. If we desire to learn about U.S or communicate with Americans in proper way ,it is necessary for us to know about cross-cultural communication. Cross-cultural communication (also referred to as intercultural communication) is a field of study that focus on how people from different cultural backgrounds communicate, in similar and different ways among themselves, and how they endeavor to communicate across cultures. Only if we are familiar with the similarities and differences can we avoid cultural conflicts and get along well with foreign friends. When you are conc erned about what you can do and what you can’t, your foreign friends will show respect for your national culture and there is no doubt that you can enhance the level of cross-culture communication .In the essay,I’ll talk about similarities and differences in three aspects between Chinese and American culture :religion ,food and festival.1.religionAmerica is remarkable now, as in the past, for its attachment to the principle of freedom of belief or disbelief . –The First Amendment to the Constitution of the United States indicates that "Congress shall make no law establishing religion, orprohibit the free exercise thereof."So you can choose your indivisual relision.According to the research, The largest religion in the US is Christianity, practiced by the majority of the population (76% in 2008);Speaking in general terms, the contemporary American is a Christian country. A research indicates that most Americans believe the existence of Santa Clous, Christ Jesus and angel even after they have received edu cation and become adults. It’s easy to see the ingrained status of Christianity in the United States of America. Christianity has the idea that people have original sin, because human ancestors, Adam and eva had sinned, corrupt moral invaded their body, and transmitted to their descendants, the result is that all mankind have sin. Obviously, Christianity preached that man and God, the separation of man and nature. China is a multi-religious country, and Buddhism, Taoism, Islam, Catholicism and Christian are the main religions in the country. Incomplete statistics show that there are more than 100 million religious followers in China with over 85 000 religious sites, over 3000 religious groups and some 74 religious colleges. Chinese people also enjoy the freedom of religious belief according to law, and regular religious activities are protected by the Constitution. All religious believers and non-religious people in the country respect for each other in beliefs and customs and live together in harmonies. While Chinese religion would emphasize that the harmony between man and nature, issues of life within a confined themselves, to solve problems with people- oriented. It’s quite different from the Christianity.2.foodGenerally speaking, we Chinese think food is very important to man. People often associate food with important holidays and the chance to meet distinguished guests. The Chinese food not only is very delicious and tasty but also very pleasing to your senses and many of dishes have very beautiful and fancy names. The Chinese have the food culture of our own which are quite different from westerners. In the west, people pay more attention to the nutrition of food rather than the looks of it. The cuisine and table manners are quite different from ours in a great extent. It is a very common practice we Chinese people say "Have you had your meal?" when they meeteach other around the time before or after meals. In fact, it is a kind of greeting to communicate with each other. But foreigners cannot understand that because they think why you ask me this. They tend to think you want to invite me to dinner or I am not rich enough to feed myself regularly but that is my business not yours. Chinese think food is very important and essential to people so it shows some care and concern about you. Very often it puzzles foreigners a lot that we ask and talk so much when we order our food in the restaurant. One reason is we ask what the food or the dish is and try to clarify it because you sometimes never know what the food is just according the name of the food until it is put on your table in the restaurant just. While most of western food has a simple and clear name and you know what it is when you hear the name. For instance, there is a traditional food call "fish and chips" in the UK. You see it is very obvious it is fried fish and potato chips. The reason for this in China is on the one hand to try to tell you the way it cooks such as cook, fry, grill and broil in the name and on the other it has beautiful good names so that you have a good imagination and association to let you have a good appetite.Generally speaking, we don't use much tableware when we have our meal in China. Mainly we have bowl, dishes, chopsticks and spoons, which we don't use very often. In serving English meals, they use so much tableware with different kinds and sizes. The Chinese do not know how to use them properly when they are invited to dinner in English family. For example there are different kinds of names for glasses in English, such as wine glass, cherry glass, brandy glass, beer glass, snifter glass, champion flute and high bowl. You can see tableware also show the food culture of different countries.cationUs’s higher education was considered as the best education in the world. Comparing the elementary education between American and China, people's universal view will be: China's elementary education aims to build the foundation of education with more study and less thought; while US's education aims to bulid such an education to raise the creativity with less study and more thought. the Chinesestudents study more, actually pay little attention to the practice, and cannot study for the purpose of 's education pays more attention to raise student's self-confidence,independence,spirit of supporting oneself, but China's education emphases on training the students to be strict, rigorous spiritual. When American school inspects the result of student, they emphasize more on the ability to analyze and solve the question but not the ability of memory or description. The American students donot need the mechanical memorizing, but display creative thought as far as possible; This can cultivate student's study interest, raise the ability of doing it byself and make the study be one kind of creative action. Conclusion:Chinese culure is broad and profound, but American culture also has its unique and style. After learning this class,I have a general impression on American culture, there are quite differences between Chinese and American culture.I think that it’s beneficial to be familiar to this differences for our cross-cultual communication.References[1]Luther S.Luedtke<The Society and Culture of the United States>America:United States information Agency,2003[2]托马斯﹒里克纳《美式家庭——品质教育家长对策》海南:海南出版社,2001年(2)[3]章创生《美国爸爸中国爸爸——向美国家长学教子》重庆:重庆出版社,2011(6)[4]董小川《美国文化概论》.

The differences between Chinese and American culture

The differences between Chinese and American culture

The differences between Chinese and American cultureThere are many differences between Chinese and American culture. And in this rapidly globalizing world, it is very important for the new generation to learn more about these differences so as to get a much more well knowing about the outside world. It is generously thought that the modern world can be divided into two parts – the eastern part and western part, as well as culture can be. Nowadays, the two domain leading cultures –eastern culture and western culture, in this modern world is presented main by China and America, respectively.Firstly, Chinese people think highly of their country’s sovereignty and think their homeland is much more important than anything. Meanwhile, American people think it is more important to respect their own profit and they would be less willing to scarify their own profit for the country.Secondly, Chinese people like to cooperate with others and would like to achieve some goal on many different ways; with such methods, Chinese people might often get what they want, but sometime they would get lost if they use wrong method which are illegal, and sometime might hurt other people. In the other hand, American people would much more prefer to do something with their own power and avoid relying on other people as possible. By such ways, they can often learn a lot by themselves and wouldn’t annoyed other people exactly. But there are still something bad. For example, it is usually more time-consuming with one guy’s ability but not gathering different people’s wisdom.Thirdly, Chinese people like to be with each other and like to make groups and join groups, and they are usually not dare to do something in their own without others’help. They are raised in an environment with their parents’over-protection. Their parents would do many things for them so they do have to worry about anything, and which makes them desire to rely on each other after up. Meanwhile, American parents raise their children in a very different way. They encourage their children to finish their work with their own and are not willing to do anything for their children. With this method, although American people would get less cooperating spirit after growing up, they can be much more independent and get more personal surviving skills.Last but not least, it is generously thought that Chinese people do not respect other people’s privacy. Chinese people always ask others some questions which are thought as parts of personal privacy by foreigners. Such as “where have you gone”, “what are you doing”, “how much is you clothes”, “what you living address”and so on, although sometime Chinese people are interesting in the information which might beneficial to them. On the other hand, American people hold a strong belief that one’s own privacy can’t be inquired without permission. Hence, they would get angry if their privacy are being pried by someone. And meanwhile, they would also respect other people’s privacy with the same respect from each other.Obviously, for a good communication, the difference between two countries’culture are not limited to that mentioned above, there are still a lot we have to learn.。

中美节日的差异英语作文

中美节日的差异英语作文英文:In terms of the differences between Chinese and American holidays, there are several key distinctions that stand out to me. First and foremost, the most obvious difference is the timing and significance of the holidays. For example, Chinese New Year, also known as the Spring Festival, is a major holiday in China that marks the beginning of the lunar new year. It is a time for family reunions, feasting, and traditional activities such as dragon dances and setting off firecrackers. In contrast, American holidays such as Thanksgiving and the Fourth of July have their own unique historical and cultural significance. Thanksgiving is a time for families to come together and express gratitude, while the Fourth of July is a celebration of American independence with fireworks and parades.Another difference is the way holidays are celebrated. In China, many holidays are celebrated with traditional customs and rituals that have been passed down for generations. For example, during the Mid-Autumn Festival, families gather to admire the moon and eat mooncakes, while during the Dragon Boat Festival, people eat sticky rice dumplings and participate in dragon boat races. On the other hand, American holidays often involve specific activities such as barbecues and picnics for Memorial Day and Labor Day, or trick-or-treating for Halloween.Furthermore, the role of religion in holidays is a significant difference between the two cultures. Many American holidays have religious origins or significance, such as Christmas and Easter, which are rooted in Christianity. In contrast, while China has its own traditional religions and spiritual beliefs, many of the major holidays are more focused on cultural and historical traditions rather than religious observance.中文:在中美节日的差异方面,我觉得有几个关键的区别。

Name: DanielStudent #:20103710218Class: 2The differences between Chinese and American banks There are many differences between different bands, let alone those banks from different countries. Here comes the comparison between the American bank named Wilco and the Chinese bank called Beyond.First of all, from the point of style, they are a little bit different, Wilco belongs to alternative country rock while Beyond focuses on art rock. Second, they have different ways to perform their concert. Wilco has a lead singer who finishes the most part of the songs while the members of Beyond sing the songs by turns. Third, the live atmospheres are also quite different. People can enjoy not only the singer’s voice but also the loud sounds from instruments as well, in Beyond’s show, the singer’s voice plays the main part of it. The sounds from the instruments are not so crazy or something like that. The ways they choose to get the inspiration also differ from each other. Through the videos people can see that, Wilco prefer to own a van for them to go around the countryside and small towns, they even took some photos for the small details of the small towns. On the contrary, Beyond get most of the inspiration from their daily lives, like through TVs, newspapers etc. Just because of the different ways to get the inspirations, people can feel different things from those different bands. For the performance itself. The American one is much more energetic, it’s easy for people to find that the American members are always with sweats. But it’s a little bit calm for the Chinese one. Besides, the interactive links also differ from each other. The American one prefers to ask the audience directly what they want to listen to while the Chinese one likes to ask the fans or do a research before the show through net, depends on which they choose the certain songs to sing. What’s more, through those videos, people can see that their preparations are different, Wilco tries hard to practice, they even sacrifice their rest time to practice singing, even when they are enduing the bad conditions, they still don't forget to practice themselves. They try to find the certain feeling by themselves through practice while Beyond may need a teacher who can guide them in some way. Communication within members is quite important for them.During the performance, the American one has more conversation with both the audience and the members than that of the Chinese one. The members of Wilco encourage each other, and people can also see that Jeff Tweedy is quite modest in the end of the video. He always have the desire to learn more. Last, Wilco mainly sings english songs while Beyond tries different languages in singing, like in Chinese, in Cantonese, in English and even in Japanese.Just because of that different bands have different characteristics, the world of music is more and more colorful. What people should do is just enjoy the happiness brought by them.。

The Differences between China and American Weddings

The Differences between China and American Weddings

The Differences between Chinese and WesternWeddingsMarriage is a ceremony that held for two lovers who are determined to become a couple in their future and be a family in the rest of their life. Marriage becomes a very important part in people’s life. It is full of happiness and deep love in each wedding, and weddings make girls becoming the unique and most beautiful person in the world that day. However, different countries have different wedding forms because of diverse cultures. Western and Chinese wedding have lots of distinctions in the wedding style, wedding customs, and wedding dressings.1. Chinese and Western weddings have different wedding styles.(1)From the color, we can use two colors to describe them: white and red. In China, red is symbolic of lucky and prosperity. It can be said that red is the main color in the wedding day, for example, the red-double happiness are stuck over all the kinds of goods, and bride’s traditional dress is also red, what’s more, candles, eggs, peanuts, papers a nd bedding are all decorated with red , all in all , red gives new couple a sense of happiness and prosperity. In America, brides choose to be married in white as their first choice. The color has long been associated with weddings because of its supposed symbolic link to virginity. The house and the church are all decorated with white balloons, and the bride’s wedding dress is also the white color.(2)From the sound of wedding, there is a great difference between them. In China, the more noisy the sound, the more lively the occasion, and the more blessing the new couple can be received, so the family will set off much firecrackers on that day during the process of the wedding. On the contrary, the American regards that when the soft “Wedding March” is play ed with the serene atmosphere, the new couple will more easy get the blessing of God, and the bride change her status, that is, from the good daughter of her father to the good wife of her husband.(3)From other aspects of the wedding styles, we can see that the western wedding is a romantic and terrific type from start to the end. In the west, if a man in love wants to marry a female, he must propose to the bride first, he may spend lots of time and energy to prepare for the proposal in order to give the bride a big surprise and a great touch. Besides, an engagement ring is also a necessity. On the other hand, the wedding ceremony is held in a church by a priest. The churches is the most vital link in the entire wedding ceremony, where the priest asks the bride and groom to make a lifetime commitment, then the new couple exchange marriage rings, and at the end of the wedding, the bride throws the flower ball to the female guests which makes the entire ceremony climactic. In contrast, it is traditional and special of the Chinese wedding style. In a traditional Chinese wedding, when the groom arrives at the bride's home, the bride covered by a red head-kerchief must cry with her mother to show her reluctance to leave home. The bride's family members or friends will set various tricks to the gloom. For example, they won't open the door until the groom gives some gifts called Hongbao. Additionally, they may hide the bride or her shoes and ask the groom to find them out. These traditional manners are very interesting and often have their special meanings.2. The wedding customs are likewise very different between Chinese and Western weddings.(1)In the western countries, it has long been considered bad luck for a groom to see his bride before the wedding day. In many cultures brides-to-be are considered unclean and are secluded for a period of time before the ceremony so that they will not contaminate others. And the engaged men and women have to prepare a lot for the wedding. On the night before the wedding, a rehearsal dinner after practicing the ceremony will be held and all the members will attend. Certainly, they have to prepare lots of invitation cards to invite friends, colleagues and relatives to attend their wedding.(2)Besides, traditionally, it is the b ride’s family, not the bridegroom’s family, that pays the bill on the wedding day, but in China is the bridegroom’s family pays it.(3)What’s more, after the wedding, the couple will take the journey which is so-called the honeymoon: The newly married are in the “honey”, or full phase of their love, which likes the moon, is bound someday to wane.(4)While in China, people create some funny things to make the wedding lively. For instance, the double happiness, which is on a red piece of paper or in paper cut, is always pasted up around the houses to show its happiness. Though many traditional activities can no longer be seen at a Chinese wedding, the spree bridal chamber is still common both in country and in town. The spree happens after the groom and bride go into their bridal chamber. Lots of friends and relatives, especially the young, can enter the room and play all kinds of tricks on the new couple. They cheer and laugh a lot to congratulate the couple and share their happiness so that there is an exceptionally lively atmosphere in the room.3. Newlyweds in different nations have distinct dressings on the wedding.(1)Western wedding cultures have special requirements for dressings. The traditional wedding costume should contain "something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue", which is now an important part in a western wedding. Something old is symbolic of continuity, something new signifies hope for the future, something borrowed is emblematic of future happiness, and something blue means the color of purity, love and fidelity. The white wedding gown is extremely common and popular, which stands for purity and beauty.(2)However, Chinese new couples wear the clothes that represent the Chinese antique traditions. In China, red is a symbol of luck, wealth and health, so the bride's clothes on that day are always red inside and out. They may also wear Tang suits and cheong-sam if the new couple wants to hold a traditional wedding ceremony.4. ConclusionFrom the above studying, we can easily know the differences between Chinese and Western weddings, it helps us to understand the two kinds of weddings’ exact features. The western wedding values romanticism and freedom, while the Chinese values deeper cultural connotations. Nowadays, many weddings have mixed characters of the different countries. It is very wonderful that we can combine western wedding and Chinese wedding to hold a romantic, traditional, and meaningful one. Anyhow, it will be a lovely wedding as long as happiness and love exist.References:[1]黄奕,马琼. 美国文化探奇:风俗背后的故事【M】西安:西安交通大学出版社,1999.9[2] 潘文晋.从中西婚礼文化看中西文化差异【J】今日南国(理论创新版),2008(3)。

the difference between Chinese and American value

the difference between Chinese and American value

The individualism VS the collectivism——The differences between American and Chinese value“Value”——it is a word that we can hear more and more frequently these years. From “three represents theory” to “harmonious society”, and “eight do's and eight don'ts”, we can see the government’s endeavor to build social values. China is doing so, and America is just doing the same thing all the time. So what is the difference between American and Chinese value? In one word, it is just the compare of the individualism with the collectivism.1.Individual striveAmerican thinks highly of the persons who get success by their hardworking, instead of relying on the family. In America, you can often see the person who is in low profile, while he (or she) is relative of successful people. But it is just the reverse in China. Like the old saying goes :”When someone got to the top, even his dogs and chickens got there too”2.Individual privacy“Leave me alone!” To American, losing privacy means losing a part of oneself. They think the privacy is in relation to one’s basic dignity and independence. But it doesn’t mean that they don’t want to share and be frank. In fact, they are more vigorous in work when they are “individual”. But in China, ”privacy” just means “scandal”.3.Individual choiceMore than to help you to choose, American prefers to give you advices. It is just the same in the way parents teaching their children. For example, “Buying a toy and then you won’t get new clothes. Or buying new clothes so that there will be no toy.” One can be think as a dawdler and a loser who is always depends on others’ choices. While in China, most people are just waiting their “destiny”, and they are often tend to “take to the woods”when trouble comes. There are nearly 100 words in America which have the prefix “self-“, American takes “individual”seriously, but it doesn’t means American ignored the importance of cooperation. In fact, they are more effective as they have the same value. The other way around, Chinese seems very “collective”, but it is just to obey the leaders’ orders.Maybe my words paid more attention to the advantages of American value and the disadvantages of Chinese value, but I think to study something and then give enoughthoughts to it is always a good thing.。

The Difference between China and America

The Difference between China and AmericaCulture differs from place to place in the world. There are many differences between Americans and Chinese culture. In America, people believe in individualism, theyhave the freedom to express affection freely, they believe in a materialistic approach. The culture is based on adventure and exploration, also on basis of advanced science. It is a culture that expands and develops outwardly. In Chinese, people believe in collectivism, they are overcautious, believing in relationships and paying homage to heaven and earth, as well as bearing a remembrance to the homeland. The culture is based on humanism and people and expands internally rather than outwardsDifference in education between china and AmericanIn the US, children are more independentthey know what to be at an early age, and plan carefully to achieve the goals. In China,Parents usually prepare everything for the children. What the children should do is to accept without any doubt. The ways of taking care of children are different. How toreact if children are wrong? Bytelling them stories and playing with them.To let them learn right from wrong?Oryelling at them and using physical punishment?Americans choose the former. It meansrespect.American education hours tube tightly, American parents would set many rules, and the children the bassoon and the pine. Chinese parents, on the contrary, childhood bearing spoiling, grow up everywhere restrictions, even university major, love is all interference. Those are family education, All indicate that we’re not self-independent, then How about the school life?In china there’re usually many rules to tie down students, Such as wearing uniform, but students in American schools have the freedom to choose what to wear. Students in china are Sitting straightly, listening quietly and Taking notes quicklyin class. But in America, students are talkingfreely, thinking lively and discussing enthusiastically. W e’re buriedin the ocean of paper to pass the college entrance exam, however they’re Enjoying Themselveson the W ay to Success.Whyarethere so many differences?Except the factors ofculture, economyandpolicies, One important reason is ThatChinese education separates learning from life, However Americans insist on life –long learning, One can learn everything from daily life And one should be learning things all his lifeW e’re used to the arrangement from people around usW e also desire to learn freely and actively, This should beunderstoodBy us and our parents, but it is not enough, This should be understood By Chinese education, By the whole nation’s students and parents.Other aspects of the difference:The most obvious is that the culture in their festivals. For example The Spring Festival in China and Christmas in western countries, the Chinese Spring Festival has no religious background while Christmas has something to do with God and there is Santa Claus with white heard to bring children presents. Another difference is that people are very informal in social situations in the United States. They call each other by their given names when they meet for the first time. In China, however, this will be regarded as quite impolite. Another difference is in topics in conversation. It is quite all right to ask a Chinese the cost of his possessions while it is quite rude to do so in the United States. The Chinese do not care much if they are asked about their age, their political and religious beliefs whereas these kinds of topics are usually avoided in conversations in the United States. Dietary is a kind of culture, it is also differ from China to W estern countries. Chinese table and poly, they eat together, while W estern reflects the private ownership, they use knife and fork to cut and divide food.。

The way of Speaking: directly or indirectlyIn the process of communication, American people are more used to expressing their affirmative and confirmed opinion or thoughts. However, Chinese people prefer to avoid the resolute and decisive answer. In other words, American speak more directly while Chinese speak indirectly. For instance, in the United States, if a man loves a woman, he always say:"I love you"directly to his lover to express his affection for her. But Chinese seldom say:"I love you"to his lover directly. If he loves a woman, he will do a lot of things for her to obtain her heart and express his love for her. Another example, if a Chinese want to borrow from his friend, he always mention other thing for a long time, and have not mentioned that he plans to borrow money until the end so as to avoid too be offensive and abrupt; while if an American want to borrow money from his friend, he will get to the point directly and he is lack of money recently and would like to borrow some money.Individual or CollectivismCollectivism is more popular in China while individualism in America. Chinese often owe a success to a group. Facing praise, they appear very modest and say a lot of formulae. Under the similar circumstance, Americans are more likely to tend to individualism and will accept the praise directly.extroverted or introverted: Competitively, American people tend to be extroverted; while Chinese people prone to be introverted. For example, in a party, American always like to know new friends, and they feel easeful and excited communicating with strangers; but Chinese like to look for old friends and have fun with them. If they are unfortunate that they have found old friends in the party, they maybe hide in a corner in silence drinking or doing other things by himself and herself.Principle vs. RelationshipAmerican stress rules and principles while Chinese stress relationship in a corporation. For instance, if a manage make a mistake or break the rule of company in the United States, the boss will punish him or her no matter how close their relationship, because they believe that relationship is one thing, rule is another thing, they should make decision according to the rules. However, Chinese people attach importance to relationship very much, in some cases; relationship can beat down rules and principles. So if that sort of thing happen in China, the boss is likely to forgive him o r her and say I give your face this time but don’t make the same mistake next time. For"face"means a lot to Chinese people.。

The differences between Chinese culture and American culture

The differences between Chinese culture and American culture

The differences between Chinese culture and AmericancultureAs we all know that the differences between Chinese culture and American culture are distinct. As the globalization is developing quickly and we are living in a multicultural world, it is important and necessary for us to recognize the differences so we can understand each other and avoid accidently insulting someone or embarrassing yourself. According to my knowledge, there are mainly four aspects of differences.First of all, the most apparent difference is the characteristics. The Chinese people tend to be conservative, modest, introvert and inactive. They put more emphasis on harmony and like common and stable life; while the American people are more open- minded, extrovert, confident and active. They like changeable life and like to try new things such as adventures and inventions. Therefore, Chinese seldom show their feelings towards the one they love in public and they also rarely say “I love you” to their love ones even in private. To the contrary, Americans are free to show their love such as giving a hug and kiss as greeting. The reason is that Chinese emphasize on ethical principle, morality and community while the Americans focus on freedom, democracy and individual.Another difference is about the family. Chinese family structure is complicated, especially the traditional family which is three or four generations living together. Family members have close relationships for they depend on each other and help each other. And usually the younger generation will show respect and filial piety to the elder, but this is not good for the young people to cultivate independence. American family structure is simple: parents and minor children. When the children are at the age of 18, their parents will encourage them to support themselves, such as working to earn their tuition and living expenses, exercising them to become independent adult to adapt to the society. Correspondingly, Americans have strong sense of equality, whether rich or poor, young or old, everyone will respect themselves and others. The difference of family structure also leads to the different attitude towards the society. Americans stress individual rights and the law. Everyone should obey the law and no one is exception. While in China it is promoting the Confucian tradition, which stresses a sense of hierarchy and obligation. So personal relationship ismore important in China. And most of the Chinese people count on friends or relatives rather than obeying the rules or law, which will sometimes contribute to bribery and corruption among the officials. If we look deeply under the surface, we will find out that the fundamental difference is the way of thinking. Chinese tend to be more intuitive and emotion- oriented. For example, they rely on traditional experience and visual thinking style; while the Americans are more rational and logical, so they believe in reason and demonstration. Sometimes people may think they are a bit inhumanly in court for they follow the law strictly. To sum up, culture differences between China and America are complex and covering a broad range of phenomena. If we know more about each other’s culture and realize the differences, we can communicate with each other better, avoid the misunderstandings, prevent the conflicts and promote the relationship with each other.。

the Differences between Chinese and American Values

the Differences between Chinese and American Values

the Differences between Chinese and American ValuesDecade of years have witnessed a gradually change of people's value toward their lives. And it is commonly acknowledged that there are some differences between Chinese and American, which can be recognized as the represent for Chinese and America culture respectively. The following paragraphs will state this point of view further.Chinese Values:In China, Confucian thought has dominated the Chinese way of life for almost 2,000 years. In Song Dynasty, ZhuXi, a famous academician, carried forward Confucian thought. So, the widely accepted traditional values derive largely from the influence of Confucian philosophy and they are at the very core of Chinese identity. The Chinese value the importance of the family, the hierarchical structure of social life, the cultivation of morality and self-restraint and the emphasis on hard work and achievement. In many ways the family unit is more important than its individual members. Children must learn not to answer back to their parents or other elders. Chinese values emphasize loyalty to the community and the country, modesty and righteousness in social activities. In Chinese tradition, the interest of the community is always more important than that of the individual. There are also lots of values in China, such as:filial piety, thrift, diligent, golden mean, rite, righteousness and so on.American values:The formation of American values is combine Americans' frontier heritage's values with European early settlers' values together. We hold these truths to be self-evident,that all man are created equal, that they are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights and that among these are Life,Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.——The Declaration of Independence Basic American values include individual freedom, self-reliance, equality of opportunity, hard work, material wealth, and competition. It is the cornerstone of American values. On the aspect of freedom, Americans mean the desire and the right of all individuals to control their fate without any other interference. They are highly individualistic in their thoughts and actions. With great emphasis on individual values, each person is seen as separate. Social relations are based on the autonomy of each person, which means that each person should be treated as an individual first and then as a member of a group. Individuals must learn to rely on themselves, otherwise they may risk losing freedom. Individualism often entail privacy. The notion of individual privacy is seen as desirable and highly valued by Americans. Equality or fairness is highly cherished in USA. On the aspect of equality, Americans mean that each individual should have an equal chance for success. Americans believes that all people are created equal and that all should have an equal opportunity to succeed. Every one has the right to compete with others equally. To sum up what I have illustrate above, there is a point where both us Chinese and American should reach that although a various differences exist, we could not decide which is better or not superficially. In fact, as an undergraduate, we need to not only conserve the positive parts but also abandon the negative aspects decidedly.。

As we all know, English is a global language that is spoken and written in different parts of the world. However, the way it is spoken and written in China and America is quite different. This is because of the differences in grammar, vocabulary, and pronunciation. In this essay, we will focus on the differences between Chinese and American English grammar. One of the main differences between Chinese and American English grammar is sentence structure. In Chinese, the basic sentence structure is subject-verb-object (SVO). For example, 我喜欢吃饭(wǒ xǐhuān chīfàn) means "Ilike to eat." However, in American English, the basic sentence structure is subject-verb-object (SVO). For example, "I like to eat" means the same thing as the Chinese sentence, but the word order is different.Another difference between Chinese and American English grammar is the use of articles. In Chinese, there are no articles. This means that when speaking or writing in English, Chinese speakers often forget to use articles, or they use them incorrectly. For example, a Chinese speaker might say "I want apple" instead of "I want an apple."In addition, Chinese and American English grammardiffer in the use of tenses. In Chinese, there is only one tense, which is the present tense. This means that when speaking or writing in English, Chinese speakers often have difficulty using past or future tenses correctly. For example, a Chinese speaker might say "I go to the store yesterday" instead of "I went to the store yesterday."Furthermore, Chinese and American English grammardiffer in the use of prepositions. In Chinese, prepositions are not used in the same way as they are in English. For example, in Chinese, there is no need to use a preposition to indicate the location of something. Instead, thelocation is indicated by the verb or the context of thesentence. However, in American English, prepositions are used to indicate the location of something. For example, "The book is on the table" means that the book isphysically on top of the table.Lastly, Chinese and American English grammar differ in the use of conjunctions. In Chinese, conjunctions are not used in the same way as they are in English. For example, in Chinese, there is no need to use a conjunction to join two sentences together. Instead, the sentences are simply placed next to each other. However, in American English, conjunctions are used to join two sentences together. For example, "I like to eat apples, but I don't like to eat bananas" means that the speaker likes apples, but not bananas. In conclusion, the differences between Chinese and American English grammar are numerous and can be difficult to overcome. However, with practice and dedication, Chinese speakers can improve their English grammar skills and become more proficient in the language.。

English is one of the most widely spoken languages in the world, and it has become a global language that connects people from different countries and cultures. However, there are many differences between the English spoken in China and the English spoken in America. In this essay, I will discuss some of the major differences between Chinese and American English.Pronunciation。

One of the most obvious differences between Chinese and American English is pronunciation. Chinese speakers tend to have a strong accent when speaking English, which can make it difficult for Americans to understand them. This is because Chinese has a different set of sounds and intonations than English. For example, the "r" sound in English is often difficult for Chinese speakers topronounce, and they may substitute it with an "l" sound.Vocabulary。

THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN CHINESE AND AMERICANPARENTING ON HELPING CHILDREN 【Abstract】: The development of children can’t exist without the help from parents or the guardians no matter in which country. However, because of differences in traditional culture, concept consciousness, life style and social custom, the parenting on helping children is different between China and America. This paper focus on two points by comparing, that is: the differences in helping children with their independence and academic study.【Key Words】: difference parenting helping independence 【Introduction】: Despite our squeamishness about cultural stereotypes, there are quantifiable differences between Chinese and American when it comes to parenting on helping children. These distinguished concepts in helping children are due to the differences in traditional culture, language, politics, economy and education of the two nations. And in this essay, three points of different parenting concepts will be discussed.Ⅰ. Attitudes towards IndependenceⅰChinese parentingChinese have very clear family consciousness and family honor, so their kinships and ethics are ingrained. Even the children are married; they still live with their parents. To some extent, Chinese parents stand at the dominant position, have relatively authority over their kids and act asrulers. In consequence, the children do what their parents allow and are afraid to do something seems anti-parents. Trying to show their filial piety and avoiding making them angry or being scored, what they can do is obeying and being controlled by their parents.Chinese traditional culture pays more attention to family honor, that is, if the children become a useful and prominent person on their achievement, their parents feel proud. If not, the parents feel shameful. The parents tend to focus on the whether children’s future education is promising, or finding a good job. They really hope that children have a peaceful life. Based on this expectation, a large number of parents think that, they should design the future for them and give their children everything as much as they can. They will sacrifice everything if children could get the most predominant condition. They want the children to be promising and care much about their studies. They will not let children do anything but academic studying. For example, they prepare all things for their kids and free them from any kind of housework. They have a very strict attitude towards the academic study which regarded as the standard to measure success. Also, they discourage the kids to excess in social activities. In their opinion, the outer world is dangerous and filled with bad things. Consequently, the abilities of independence, the adaptation to the society and future, and the awareness of the obligations of citizen are nearly neglected. The kids find them hard to fit in when they are gettingolder.ⅱAmerican parentingHowever, things seem different in America. Most American parents believe that the child should be an independent individual since he is born, who own willing and personality. They pay more attention to the children’s independence and abilities of adapting to the different environments. And the adult children will leave their parents and live an independent life. Their parent s won’t fo ster them, either.American parents bring their children by the method of letting go rather than indulging to exercise children’s abilities of independence living. First, they try to give their kids enough chances and conditions which allow them to be fully trained in various settings. Second, they would like to see their kids experience difficulties instead of living an over-comfortable environment. Third, American parents have stringent demands and regulations on child’s pocket money, although their economic conditions are better than some Chinese families.American families generally believed that the children’s growth must rely on their own strength. They allow the children to adapt to the society and take victory in the competitions. The majorities of U.S. parents don’t spoil the children, but bring up to ask them to be independent. When they became eighteen, they begin to an independentlife, making friends, no longer dependent on their parents. At the same time, they encourage children to participate in various practical activities, which can develop children's thinking skills and practical abilities.ⅡAttitudes Towards Academic StudyⅰChinese parentingIn China, parents consider that there is nothing more important than studying. Cutting back the activities, and give priority to the child’s study is worthy as long as they can get good grades. Chinese parents can order their kids to get straight As. For example, Amy Chua, professor at Yale Law School, known as “Tiger Mother”, set rules for her daughter, that are “get any grade less than an A”, “ not be the No. 1 student in every subject except gym and drama”, etc. Chinese parents demand perfect grades because they believe that their child can get them. If their child doesn't get them, the Chinese parent assumes it's because the child didn't work hard enough. In addition, in order to get higher scores, the parents will hire tutors for the kids. In some families, a child may have five to six tutors every week. Although it is a bit expensive, the parents take it as a method to improve the grades and think it's a great deal. However, they don’t care much about the children’s feelings and force them to do the homework. Besides, once they get a tutor, they tend to count on him and feel they have already borne the responsibility to help the children. In this waysome kids don’t change their habits of learning and just idle the day as before, complaining about the academic studying. In this way, children are deprived of the freedom to go for things what they are interested in and children are bereft of ebullience and creativity in other entertainment.ⅱAmerican parentingBut in America, things are far different. United States is a young nation of immigrants and rarely influenced by traditional culture. They think the academic success is a form of achievement rather than everything. At the same time, they do hope their children can get good grades. And when the children have problems with school works, American parents like to encourage the kids to think about them, go to the library or museum first. And then, the parents would probably come up with a solution to do the work for their children instead of criticizing their carelessness of missing the important points. The American culture tends to encourage people to compete on an equal basis through the pursuit of practical interests, efforts to obtain the desired well-being and interests of individuals. In the United States, which is still the performance is outstanding; competition has penetrated into every average American family. In America, American parents pay more attention on the abilities of adapting to the different environments and independent living. Americanparents encourage their children to innovate and surpass their predecessors in all fields. And American people believe that stressing academic success is not good for children or that parents need to foster the idea that learning is fun. American parents encourage their children to go to library in order to solve the problems instead of telling them the right answer directly. Also, parents like to bring the kids to various museums and galleries so that they can be involved in kinds of culture because they don’t think the study should just focus on the books or exams. They think that children, like adults, have the independent ability of study.【Conclusion】Parenting plays an important roles in the children’s life. When they grow up, all their behaviors are determined by the parents’education, what kind a person they might be, depends on what kind of help they receive. Children’s personalities and destinies are connected to parenting undoubtedly. For the family, for the children, for the society, it’s necessary to think twice about the parenting so that children can have a brighter future.【Reference】1.李向前中国家教批判中国时代经济出版社2005.52.叶立群家庭教育学福建教育出版社19953.A Comparative Study on the Family Education between China andAmerica 覃奎尧20071034054.
