Communication styles in DA system
1、Power line carrier (PLC) This style has two advantages: it is easy to control, and it can connect any joint of the power grid. Neither extra lines nor wireless management department’s permission is needed. It also has disadvantages: low transmit speed, big cubage, high cost and electromagnetic interference. Now it is widely used EMS, SCADA, remote protection and long distance telephone systems.

2、Distribution line carrier (DLC)
This technology is applied in DA system since 1985 in U.S.It can connect every home application of each home easily by distribution line, so it is the best communication channel of country DA system. There are lots of switchs, transformers and bypass capacitors in the distribution grid, so it make it hard for carrier signals to transmit effectively. DLC’s transmit speed is under 300 baud commonly, and it can transmit message reversible, so it is suit to RMR and get load data from distribution feeders

Preface
DA system’s structure and its function:
Main station: It is the central part of the whole system, it gets the data from the field apparatus, and compare them with standard status, then make decisions and instructions. Field apparatus: It gathers all kinds of data and status information from the equipments, and send the messages to the main station by communication system. Communication units: Following certain communication protocol, it can transmit messages from field apparatus to main stations .

1、Select the communication style owing to its importance. If the system requires speed and precision, we can choose optical fiber communication. While the system is not real-time supervision, we can choose DLC or wireless to reduce costs. 2 、 The communication media between main station and sub-station is of great importance, so we choose optical fiber or ethernet.

4、Optical fiber communication Now it is widely used by power company for SCADA, relay protection and MIS information transmission, and it will be applied in electrical system more and more widely. There are two modes for its network organization: single-circle (fig. 2) and double-circle (fig. 3).
