Parallel computing is the main technology to implement high performance computing. This paper reviews the history of parallel computing over the past 60 years, and reaffirms the fact that the measurement equations for parallel scalability have played an important role in the development of parallel computing. Based on our analysis of challenges in exascale computing in the future, new scalability measurement model for parallel computing has been built, in which factors affecting performance of exascale computing are considered, including memory access, communication, reliability and power consumption. Through quantitative analysis, it has been found that there are some scalability "walls" during the development when parallel computing advances to higher performance. Finally, in consideration of the conditions of our country, the author proposes some suggestions for the development of high performance computing in our country.%并行计算是实现高性能计算的主要技术手段.

High-Performance Computing

High-Performance Computing

High-Performance Computing High-Performance Computing High-performance computing (HPC) refers to the use of supercomputers and parallel processing techniques to solve complexcomputational problems. In recent years, HPC has become increasingly important in various fields such as scientific research, engineering, and business. This essay will discuss the significance of HPC, its applications, and the challenges it presents. To begin with, high-performance computing plays a crucial role in scientific research. It enables researchers to process and analyze large volumesof data, which is essential for making breakthroughs in fields such as genomics, climate modeling, and drug discovery. For example, scientists use HPC to simulate the behavior of molecules and proteins, which helps in the development of newdrugs and treatments for diseases. Without HPC, these simulations would be impractical or impossible to perform. Furthermore, high-performance computing is widely used in engineering and design. It allows engineers to create complex models and simulations that were previously not feasible. For instance, in the aerospace industry, HPC is used to simulate the airflow around an aircraft, leading to more efficient and safer designs. Similarly, in the automotive industry, HPC is used to simulate crash tests and optimize vehicle performance. These applications demonstrate how HPC is revolutionizing the way products are designed and tested. In addition, high-performance computing has become essential in the business world. It is used for tasks such as financial modeling, risk analysis, and customer analytics. For example, banks use HPC to analyze market trends and make high-speed trading decisions. Retailers use HPC to analyze customer data and personalize marketing strategies. The use of HPC in business has led to improved efficiency, better decision-making, and a competitive edge in the market. Despite its many benefits, high-performance computing also presents challenges. One of the main challenges is the cost of acquiring and maintaining supercomputers. These machines require significant investments in hardware, software, and skilled personnel. Additionally, the energy consumption of supercomputers is a concern, as they require large amounts of power to operate. Furthermore, there are challenges related to software development and optimization for parallel processing, as well as the need for high-speed networking infrastructure. In conclusion, high-performance computing is a vital tool for tackling complex problems in various fields. Its applications in scientific research, engineering, and business have led to significant advancements and innovations. However, the challenges it presents, such as cost and energy consumption, need to be addressed to fully realize its potential. As technology continues to advance, high-performance computing will play an increasingly important role in shaping the future.。

facturers such as Intel and AMD have directed their development efforts to multi-core processors. These processors bring unprecedented hardware parallelism to ordinary desktop machines. As exploiting parallelism in traditional personal applications may often be limited by the inherently sequential processing manner of the human brain, it is natural to explore aggregating idle hardware for running demanding scientific computing jobs as a secondary workload.

Parallelprocessingofmassaerialdigitalimagesbasedonclustercomput-er———Theapplicationofparallelcomputinginaerialdigitalphotogrammetry.ComputerEngineeringandApplications,2008,44(13):12-15.Abstract:Withthedevelopmentofelectronicinformation,theaerialdigitalimageupdatingismorefrequentandthedataismoremass,thetraditionalmethodofimageprocessingbasedonserialcomputingisdifficulttomeettheneedsofhighproductionefficiencyandrapidrespond.Forimprovingtheefficiencyofdataprocessing,thecomputingmustbeparallel.Thepaperdiscussesthemethodofparallelprocessingofmassaerialdigitalimagesbasedonclustercomputersystem.Italsopresentsamethodofthequickgenerationofmosaicimagewithoutgroundcontrolpointbasedondigitalphotogrammetry.Theexperimentresultsdemonstratethattheparallelcomputingobviouslyimprovestheefficiencyofmassdataprocessing.

消息引擎是消息机制的核心部件,负责消息的发送、接收,由SU(Send Unit)AG (Receive Unit)、PIU(PCU InterAcs Unit)组成. NPU(NetwoW Port Unit)部件实现网络的物理层和链路层功能. 消息原语主要包括点到点消息、集合通信和快速短消息FSA(Fast Shoet Aessage)三大类型.

Gflops=10亿次,所以36003Gflops=36.003TFlops=36.003万亿次每秒的峰值性能。

•GPUs provide cost effective way for building supercomputers【GPUs提供高效方式建立超级计算机】•Dense packaging of compute flops with high memory bandwidth【使用高端内存带宽的密级封装浮点计算】10、网络设备的哪个特性决定了MPI_Allreduce性能? Time for MPI_Allreduce keeps increasing as cluster size scales,也就是说集群的规模决定了MPI_Allreduce的性能。

First way:
Solve problem on a given grid by calling Multigrid on a coarse approximation to get a good guess to refine
Second way:
Think of error as a sum of sine curves of different frequencies Same idea as FFT solution, but not explicit in algorithm Each call to Multigrid responsible for suppressing coefficients of sine curves of the lower half of the frequencies in the error
Multigrid will be defined by a repeated sequence of operators
The multigrid operators average values on neighboring grid points
Neighboring grid points on coarse problems are far away in fine problems, so information moves quickly on coarse problems Levels will be constructed explicitly The next slide gives an overview of the operators; details will come later

Multigrid OveFra bibliotekview Basic Algorithm:
Replace problem on fine grid by an approximation on a coarser grid Solve the coarse grid problem approximately, and use the solution as a starting guess for the fine-grid problem, which is then be iteratively updated Solve the coarse grid problem recursively, i.e. by using a still coarser grid approximation, etc.
Recall that Jacobi, SOR, CG, or any other sparsematrix-vector-multiply-based algorithm can only move information one grid call at a time
Takes N1/2 steps to get information across grid Can show that decreasing error by fixed factor c<1 takes W(log n) steps Convergence to fixed error < 1 takes W(log n ) steps
Reduce to sparse-matrix-vector multiply Need them to understand Multigrid

2D Poisson’s equation:
SOR and CG take N1/2 steps
Therefore, converging in O(1) steps requires moving information across grid faster than to one neighboring grid cell per step
