Earthquakes李仕才【阅读理解】At present we spend a lot of time on our mobile devices these days and automakers have taken notes, rolling out connected cars that make it easy to do nearly everything from your phone.“We all enjoy those kinds of experiences where you want something and by the push of a button everything gets taken care of for you.You don’t have to go here and there and piece a bunch of things together by yourself. ”Ford recently introduced FordPass, a mobile platform that lets car owners access services like finding and paying for a parking spot.“Here’s the details of what charge s will be in sign, and then I submit (点击接受), and then I receive a QRphoto allowing me entry access to that parking location. ”Over at Buick, the OnStar RemoteLink app connects owners to their cars no matter how faraway they are. “This car in Detroit, I co uld start from here in New York. Or let us say I have the only key to it and my wife in Detroit needs to get in the car, I can unlock it for her from here. ”The feature harnesses the car’s 4G LTE connectivity (连接性). Up to seven mobile devices can connect to it at any given time.“We want people to feel as if they are at home within the car, which a lot of people want to be in just for the driving experience, now they can be in there as well, the passengers can be in there as well for the connectivity expe rience. ”But what does that connectivity mean for your privacy?“It is important to have personal information to create that individualized, personalized experience, but certainly it will be a customer’s option. ”For certain consumers, it may not even be an issue.“There certainly is a factor where a younger consumer is much more comfortable giving up a lot more privacy and data than an older consumer is, and more likelythan not, you are going to see a similar behavior to how they handle their personal privacy within the vehicle. ”Considering how capable our mobile devices have become, perhaps the only question left to answer is: “Who’s driving? ”【文章大意】由于移动设备的广泛应用, 制造商推出了装配有车载移动设备的轿车, 进而可从事由智能手机发出指令的动作。

Chinese paper cutting or "jianzhi" is the art of cutting paper designs, and the cut-outs are also used to decorate doors and windows, so they are sometimes called "chuang hua". Paper cutting has long been a symbol of Eastern charm. There are symmetrical(对称的)designs that are usually created by some folding and cutting. When unfolded, it forms a symmetrical design. Chinese cut-outs are normally symmetrical and are usually in an even number series of 2, 4, 24,etc.The oldest surviving paper cut-out is a symmetrical circle from the early 6th century found in Xinjiang, China. From the 7th to 13th century, paper cutting became popular especially during Chinese festivals. The art spread to the rest of the world in the 14th century. Unit 4 Earthquakes李仕才***阅读理解At 23, my career got going. I was midway through a master’s degree at the London School of Economics and Political Science and had been hired as a parttime reporter for a finance website. I got a great onemonth review and m y boss asked if I was interested in staying at the company after graduation. However, balancing graduate studies with work was challenging. To deal with it, I checked my real self at my office door. I came in to work, greeted my colleagues and listened more than I contributed in each morning meeting. The small team I worked with often seemed busy, so rather than giving ideas that might get turned down, I stayed back. After four months, my boss called me into his office. The meeting was going well until he told me that despite the great work I had produced, the team had held a meeting and decided,“We don’t think it’s the right fit.”I must have looked confused. “You’re ambitious, intelligent and will be very successful,” my boss said. “But you haven’t made enough effort to join the team. You lost the enthusiasm you showed in your interview. That won’t work long term, and if I could give you one piece of advice, it would be to get your guard down.” I couldn’t believe that performing well at my job wasn’t enoug h to keep it. But I knew my boss was right. They knew that when they hired me, I had no experience in finance reporting, yet they took a chance on me. In meetings I usually contributed last, after I had heard everyone else’s suggestions. I did it to show t hat I was a listener, but also to hide my fears. They liked the person who walked into the interview, and they didn’t respect me when I hid that person from them.“Don’t leave before you leave.” That advice is essential for women at all stages of our careers. Because we work so hard for success, we don’t like to think that we hurt ourselves sometimes. But each of us must change when necessary. In trying to earn a fulltime job, I “leaned back” in order not to show too much of myself or my lack of expertise(专门知识). I learned that the hard way wasn’t the way to achieve our goals.【解题导语】本文是一篇夹叙夹议文。

It is quite reasonable to blame traffic jams, the cost of gas and the great speed of modern life, but manners on the road are becoming horrible.Everybody knows that the nicest men would become fierce tigers behind the wheel. It is all right to have a tiger in a cage, but to have one in the driver’s seat is another matter.Road politeness is not only good manners, but a good sense. It takes the most coolheaded drivers great patience to give up the desire to beat back when forced to face rude driving. On the other hand, a little politeness goes a long way toward reducing the possibility of quarreling and fighting.A friendly nod or a wave of thanks in answer to an act of politeness helps to create an atmosphere of goodwill and becomes so necessary in modern traffic conditions. But such behavior of politeness is by no means enough. Many drivers nowadays don’t even seem able to recognize politeness when they see it.However, misplaced politeness can also be dangerous.A typical example is the driver who waves a child crossing the street at a wrong place into the path of oncoming cars that may not be able to stop in time. The same goes for encouraging old ladies to cross the road wherever and whenever they want to.An experienced driver, whose manners are faultless, told me it would help if drivers learnt to correctly join in a traffic stream without causing total blockages that give rise to unpleasant feelings.Unfortunately, modern drivers can’t even learn to drive, let alone master the roadmanship(公路驾车技能).Years ago, experts warned us that the fast increase of the car ownership would demand more giveand take(互谅互让) from all road users. It is high time for all of us to take this message to heart.【解题导语】随着车辆的增多,很多司机都有可怕的路怒症,甚至不知道什么是文明交通。

Earthquakes李仕才***阅读理解When I was a boy we used to live across the road from a big hill with huge oak trees growing out of it. When winter arrived, thick and heavy snow would fall, and my two brothers would grab their sleds heading over to the hill for a day of fun.I remember watching them with envy because I was still too small to go sledding. Finally, one winter I was considered big enough and joined my brothers as they carried their sleds up the long hill and prepared to ride down it.The first few trips I rode with one of my brothers had the time of my life.It was so exhilarating when the wind whipped across my face as I flew down the hillside on the wooden sled.Near the end of the day I was too overjoyed when my oldest brother decided to let me try riding the sled all by myself. I climbed on it full of excitement and lay on my stomach. Then with one big push my brother sent me down the snowy hillside.I was doing pretty well too until I hit an old stump hidden by the snow and went off course, straight towards one of those big oak trees. My heart pounded in my chest and I could hear myself screaming. At the last possible second I rolled off and the sled crashed into the tree.I could hear my brothers running down the hill yelling,“You have to steer(操控)! You have to steer!”Sadly, that wasn’t the last time I failed to steer when some obstacle knocked me off course in my life. Many times problems, troubles, and my own failures have sent me crashing into the trees of anger, frustration, and despair. I am still learning that life isn’t always safe sledding. I am still learning that it is up to me to steer myself back to love, back to kindness, back to goodness, and back to God.Life is a trip, but no one ever said it was a smooth ride.Steer well then.Steer straight.Steer your soul towards the light and the love that are all meant for us.【解题导语】作者小时候有一次滑雪时差点撞到橡树上,但在最后一刻,作者翻滚到雪地里才得以化险为夷,同时他学到了一个人生道理:学会自我掌控。

Whenever we see a button, we want to press it because we know that something will happen. This is true in most cases, for example, on a doorbell. But some buttons are actually fake(假的), like the “close” button on a lift. Many people are in the habit of pressing the “close” button because they don’t have the patience to wait. But l ifts’ “close” buttons are a complete trick, at least in the U.S.—the doors will not close any faster no matter how hard you press. It started in the 1990s when the Americans with Disabilities Act was passed in the U.S., making sure that all lifts stayed open long enough so that people with disabilities could enter safely.Only repair workers can use the buttons to speed up the door closing process if they have special keys. But to normal lift riders, the buttons aren’t completely useless.According to psychologists, fake buttons can actually make you feel better by offering you a sense of control.“A sense of control is very important. It reduces stress and increases well being,” said Ellen J.Langer, a psychology professor at Harvard University.Experts also added that a lot of buttons that don’t do anything exist in our lives for this same purpose. For example, pedestrian crosswalk buttons don’t live up to their names either.Pressing them used to help make the traffic signals change faster, but that was before computercontrolled traffic signals were introduced. But psychologists found it interesting that even when people are aware of these little “white lies”, they still continue to push fake buttons because as long as the doors eventually close, it is considered to be worth the effort.【解题导语】本文是一篇说明文,主要介绍了我们平时生活中所见到的按钮可能是不起作用的。

Modern scientists divide the process of dying into two stages —clinical or temporary death and biological death・ Clinical death occurs when the vital organs, such as the heart or lungs, have stopped functioning, but have not suffered permanent damage. The organism can still be saved. Biological death occurs when changes in the organism lead to the "breaking up” of vital cells and tissues. Death is then unchangeable and final.Scientists have been seeking a way to prolong the period of clinical death so that the organism can remain alive before biological death occurs. The best method developed so far involves cooling the organism, combined with narcotic (麻醉)sleep・By slowing down the body" s metabol ism (新陈代谢),cool ing delays the processes leading to biological death・To show how this works, scientists performed an experiment on a six-year-old female monkey cal led Keta. The scientist put Keta. to sleep wi th a narcotic. Then they surrounded her body with ice-bags and began checking her body temperature. When it had dropped to 28 degrees the scientists began taking blood out from an artery (动脉)・The monkey' s blood pressure decreased and an hour later both the heart and breathing stopped: cl ini cal death set in. For twonty minutes Keta remained in this state. Her temperature dropped to 22 degrees・At this point the scientists pumped blood into an artery in the direction of the heart and started artificial breathing. After two minutes Keta' s heart became active once more. After fifteen minutes, spontaneous (自发的)breathing began, and after four hours Keta opened her eyes and lifted her head. After six hours, when the scientists tried to give her a peniUllin (青霉素) injection, Keta seized the syringe (注射器)and ran with it around the room・ Her behavior differed 1ittle from that of a healthy animal.1・For a person who suffers from the clinical death ・A.he is still very much aliveB.he cannot avoid final deathC.his most important organs are damaged foreverD.he still has the possibility of getting back to life 2.Scientists try to make the time of clinical death longer in order toA. cool the organismB. delay the coming of biological deathC. slow down the body" s metabolismD. bring vital cells and tissues back to active life3. __________________________________ The text mainly talks about .A. clinical death and biological deathB ・ an experiment on amonkeyC. the meaning of deathD ・ the process before death4- From the underlined sentence in the lastA. But she, Xiaoice, is only a virtual chatbot(虚拟聊天机器人).Xiaoice, Microsoft’s latest artificial intelligence robot, was briefly released in 2014, and returned to WeChat in 2015, where she became a big hit. Millions of young Chinese now exchange messages with her daily, the New York Times reported. On WeChat, Xiaoice is an official account. After following it, users can start text-based conversations with Xiaoice.“Her incredible learning ability was why people loved to talk with Xiaoice, ” Liu Jinchang, a researcher at High-tech Research and Development Center under the Ministry of Science and Technology, told China Daily. Apart from her ability to identify photos and send emojis(表情符号)in conversations, Xiaoice gains 45 percent of her knowledge from interacting with users, China Daily reported.Chatbot programs first appeared in the mid-1960s in the US. Driven by top tech companies, they are becoming smarter and more common. 必修1 Unit 4 Earthquakes李仕才一、阅读理解A“BANG!” the door caused a reverberation (回声). It was just standing there, with father standing on one side, and me on the other side.We were both in great anger. “Never set foot in this house again!” stormed father. With tears welling up in my eyes, I rushed out of the flat and ran along the street. The street lights were shining, causing rather sad feelings. I wandered aimlessly.A young father who held a child in his arms walked past me. I felt as if I saw my childhood from another space: happy and carefree. But now … I don’t know whether it is because I have grown up or because dad is getting old. We differ in our ways of thinking. We are just like two people coming from two different worlds. It feels like there is an iron door between us that can never be opened.I wandered the streets, without a destination in mind. My heart was frozen on this hot summer night. As I walked on, there were fewer and fewer people on the streets, until I had only the street lights to keep me company. When I finally reached the high-rise apartment block in which I lived, I saw that the light was still on.I thought to myself: “Is father waiting for me, or is he still angry with me?”In fact, it was nothing. Perhaps, dad was throwing away some of his old stamps. Perhaps he thought they were useless. I never had the courage to tell him that I liked collecting stamps. All the lights were off except father’s.Dad was always like this. Maybe he didn’t know how to express himself. After shouting at me, he never showed any pity or any moments of regret. This was how he always was. He has been a leader for so long that telling everyone else what to do has become his second nature. The light was still on. “Am I wrong?” I whispered, maybe… With the key in my hand, I was as nervous as I had ever been. At last, I decided to open the door. As soon as I opened the door, tears ran down my cheeks. I suddenly realized that the iron door that I had imagined between us did not exist at all. Unit 4 Earthquakes李仕才一、阅读理解。
Fidel Castro was born at his father’s farm on August 13, 1926. His father, Angel Castro, was a migrant to Cuba from Galicia, Northwest Spain. He had become financially successful by growing sugarcane at Las Manacas farm in Biran, Oriente Province.Aged six, Castro was sent to live with his teacher in Santiago be Cuba, before being baptized(洗礼)into the Roman Catholic Church at the age of eight. Being baptized enabled Castro to attend the la Salle boarding school in Santiago, where he regularly misbehaved, so he was sent to the privately funded Dolores School in Santiago. In 1945 he transferred to a more famous school, De Belen in Havana. Although Castro took an interest in history, geography and debating at Belen, he did not excel academically, instead devoting much of his time to playing sport. In 1945, Castro began studying law at the University of Havana, where he became involved in student activism, and the violent gangsterism culture within the university. Passionate about anti-imperialism and opposing U.S. interference in the Caribbean, he unsuccessfully campaigned for the presidency of the Federation of University Students on a platform of “honesty, decency and justice”. Castro became critical of the corruption and violence of President Ramon Grau’s government, delivering a public speech on the subject in November 1946 that received coverage on the front page of several newspapers. In 1947, Castro joined the Party of the Cuban People, founded by Eduardo Chibas. 【阅读理解】
At present we spend a lot of time on our mobile devices these days and automakers have taken notes, rolling out connected cars that make it easy to do nearly everything from your phone.
“We all enjoy those kinds of experiences where yo u want something and by the push of a button everything gets taken care of for you.
You don’t have to go here and there and piece a bunch of things together by yourself. ”
Ford recently introduced FordPass, a mobile platform that lets car owners access services like finding and paying for a parking spot.
“Here’s the details of what charges will be in sign, and then I submit (点击接受), and then I receive a QRphoto allowing me entry access to that parking location. ”
Over at Buick, the OnStar RemoteLink app connects owners to their cars no matter how faraway they are. “This car in Detroit, I could start from here in New York. Or let us say I have the only key to it and my wife in Detroit needs to get in the car, I can unlock it for her from here. ”
The feature harnesses the car’s 4G LTE connectivity (连接性). Up to seven mobile devices can connect to it at any given time.
“We want people to feel as if they are at home within the car, which a lot of people want to be in just for the driving experience, now they can be in there as well, the passengers can be in there as well for the connectivity experience. ”
But what does that connectivity mean for your privacy?
“It is important to have personal information to create that individualized, personalized experience, bu t certainly it will be a customer’s option. ”
For certain consumers, it may not even be an issue.
“There certainly is a factor where a younger consumer is much more comfortable giving up a lot more privacy and data than an older consumer is, and more likely
than not, you are going to see a similar behavior to how they handle their personal privacy within the vehicle. ”
Considering how capable our mobile devices have become, perhaps the only question left to answer is: “Who’s driving? ”
