2019年职称英语考试卫生类A级阅读练习及答案1 The Best Way to Reduce Your WeightYou hear this:“No wonder you are fat.All you ever dois eat.”You feel sad:“I skip my breakfast and supper.I run every morning and evening. What else can I do?”Basically you can do nothing.Your genes, not your life habits, determine your weight and your body constantly tries to maintain it.Albert Stunkard of the University of Pennsylvania found from experiments that,“80 percent of the children of two obese parents become obese,as compared with no more than 14 percent of the offspring of two parents of no rmal weight.”How can obese people become normal or even thin through dieting?Well, dieting can be effective, but the health costs are tremendous.Jules Hirsch,a research physician at Rockefeller University, did a study of eight fat people. They were given a liquid formula providing 600 calories aday1.After more than 10 weeks, the subjects lost 45kg on average. But after leaving the hospital, they all regained. The results were surprising:by metabolic measurement, fat people who lost large amounts of weight seemed like they were starving. They had psychiatric problems. They dreamed of food or breaking their diet2.They were anxious and depressed;some were suicidal. They hid food in their rooms.Researchers warn that it is possible that weight reduction doesn’t result i n normal weight, but in an abnormal state resembling that of starved non-obese people.Thin people, however, suffer from the opposite:They have to make a great effort to gain weight.Ethan Sims,of theUniversity of Vermont, got prisoners to volunteer to gain weight. In four to six months, they ate as much as they could. They succeeded in increasing their weight by 20 to 25 percent. But months after the study ended, they were back to normal weight and stayed there. This did not mean that people are completely without hope in controlling their weight. It means that those who tend to be fat will have to constantly battle their genetic inheritance if they want to significantly lower their weight. The findings also provide evidence for something scientists thought was true-each person has a comfortable weight range3.The range might be as much as 9kg.Someone might weigh 60-69kg without too much effort. But going above or below the natural weight range is difficult. The body resists by feeling hungry or full and changing the metabolism to push the weight back to the range it seeks.词汇:skip/skIp/v.跳过 obese/Eu5bi:s/adi.肥胖的metabolic/metE5bClIk/adj.新陈代谢的psychiatric/7saIkI5Atrik/adj.精神病的abnormal/Ab5nC:ml/adj.异常的注释:1. 2019职称英语综合类A级阅读理解及答案1
2019职称英语综合类A级阅读理解及答案1MemoryIt is difficult to imagine what life would be like without memory. The meanings of thousands of everyday perceptions, the basis for the decisions we make, and the roots of our habits and skills are to be found in our past experiences, which are brought into the present by memory.Memory can be defined as the capacity to keepinformation available for later use. It includes not only " remembering" things like arithmetic or historical facts, but also involves any change in the way an animal typically behaves. Memory is involved when a rat gives up eating grain because he has sniffed something suspicious in the grain pile.Memory exists not only in humans and animals but also in some physical objects and machines. Computers, for example, contain devices for storing data for late use. It is interesting to compare the memory storage capacity of a computer with that of a human being. The instant-access memory of a large computer may hold up to 100,000 "words"——strings of alphabetic or numerical characters——ready for instant use. An average U.S. teenager probably recognizes the meaning of about 100,000 words of English. However, this is but a fraction of the total amount of information which the teenager has stored. Consider, for example, the number of faces and places that the teenager can recognize on sight. The use of words is the basis of the advanced problem-solving intelligence of human beings. A large part of a person's memory is in terms of words and combinations ofwords. But while language greatly expands the number and kind of things a person can remember, it also requires a huge memory capacity. It may well be this capacity that distinguishes humans, setting them apart from other animals.31.What do the sentences at the beginning of the passage suggest?A. Memory is useful.B. Memory is important.C. There is a relationship between memory and habits.D. The past is connected with the present by memory.32. According to the passage, memory is helpful in our daily life in the following aspects exceptA. involving the change in the behavior.B. keeping information for later use.C. warning people not to do things repeatedly.D. remembering events that happened in history.33. With respect to the memory storage capacity, what is the author's idea about the comparison between human beings and computers?A. Computers have no memory at all.B. Computers are more powerful than adults.C. Teenagers are inferior to computers.D. Human beings are far superior to computers.34. What is the major characteristic of a human being's memory capacity according to the text?A. It can be expanded by language.B. It can remember all the combined words.C. It may keep all the information in the past.D. It may change what has been stored in it.35. According to the passage, human beings make themselves different from other animals byA. having the ability to realize danger.B. having a special memory capacity.C. having a distinguished memory capacity.D. having the ability to control himself.参考答案:BCDAC。

2019年职称英语考试综合类A级补全短文模拟及答案1
2019年职称英语考试综合类A级补全短文模拟及答案1Conservation or Wasted Effort? The black robin (旅鸫) is one of the world's rarest birds. It is a small, wild bird, and it lives only on the island of Little Mangere, off the coast of New Zealand. In 1967 there were about fifty black robins there; in 1977 there were fewer than ten.(46)Energetic steps are being taken to preserve the black robin.(47) The idea is to buy another island nearby as a special home, a "reserve", for threatened wild life, including black robins. The organizers say that Little Mangere should then be restocked (重新准备) with the robin's food. Thousands of the required plants are at present being cultivated in New Zealand. Is all this concern a waste of human effort? (48) Are we losing our sense of what is reasonable and what is unreasonable? In the earth's long, long past hundreds of kinds of creatures have evolved, risen to a degree of success and died out. In the long, long future there will be many new and different forms of life. Those creatures that adapt themselves successfully to what the earth offers will survive for a long time.(49) This is nature's proven method of operation. The rule of selection--"the survival of the fittest"--is the one by which human beings have themselves arrived on the scene. We, being one of the most adaptable creatures the earth has yet produced, may last longer than most. (50) You may take it as another rule that when, at last, human beings show signs of dying out, no other creature will extend a paw (爪) to postpone our departure. On the contrary, we will be hurried out.Life seems to have grown too tough for black robins. I leave you to judge whether we should try to do anything about it.A Some creatures, certain small animals, insects and birds, will almost certainly outlast (比…长久) man, for they seem even more adaptable.B Those that fail to meet the challenges will disappear early.C Detailed studies are going on, and a public appeal for money has been made.D Both represent orders in the classification of life.E Is it any business of ours whether the black robin survives or dies out?F These are the only black robins left in the world.答案:F C E B A。

2019 职称英语理工 A 考试教材阅读理解(一)Telling Tales about PeopleOne of the most common types of nonfiction, and onethat many people enjoy reading, is stories about people's lives. These stories fall into three general categories:autobiography, memoir, and biography. An autobiography is the story of a person's life written by himself or herself. Often it begins with the person's earliest recollections and ends in the present. Autobiography writersmay not be entirely objective in the way they presentthemselves. However, they offer the reader a good look at theway they are and what makes them that way. People as diverseas Benjarmin Franklin and Helen Keller have written autobiographies. 1Other writers, such as James Joyce ,have written thinly fictionalized accounts of their lives. These are not autobiographies ,but they are very close to it.Memoirs, strictly speaking, are autobiographicalaccounts that focus as much on the events of the times as onthe life of the author. 2Memoir writers typically use theseevents as backdrops for their lives. They describe them indetail and discuss their importance. Recently ,though ,the term memoir seems to be becoming interchangeab1e with autobiography.A memoir nowadays may or may not deal with the outside world.Biographies are factual accounts of someone else's life.In many senses ,these may be the hardest of the three typesto write. Autobiography writers know the events they writeabout because they lived them. But biography writers have togather information from as many different sources as possible. Then they have to decide which facts to include. Their goalis to present a balanced picture of a person ,not one that is overly positive or too critical. A fair well-presentedbiography may take years to research and write.词汇:backdrop /'b k,dr?p/ n.背景interchangeable /int?'t?end??bl/ adj.可转换的注释:1. Irradiation of other meats, such as beef and lamb, is being reviewed. Federal approval does not require that industry adopt the process, and few food processors presently offer irradiated products.Market studies have shown that many consumers are afraid that eating irradiated foods may cause cancer, despite scientific studies that prove the safety of treated foods. Some people argue that more severe government inspection, higher food-safety standards, and more careful-preparation practices by consumers are all that is needed to ensure that food is safe.Consequently, companies currently see no need to spend millions of dollars outfitting processing plants with the equipment necessary for a process that very few shoppers are in favor of.All supermarkets that sell irradiated food must label the food either directly on the packaging, or, in the case of bulk items like fruits and vegetables, by placing a sign nearby. There is no requirement for the labeling of irradiated food served by chain restaurants orhospitals that buy directly from distributors, nor any regulations for products that contain irradiated ingredients.Presently, the FDA allows food to be treated with three types of radiation-gamma rays, high-energy electrons, and X rays-and sets limits on doses, depending on the type of food. The principle is that the dose to be used for a certain type of food should not exceed the amount that is sufficient to kill most harmful insects and bacteria present in it. Different types of food, because of their molecular compositions, may require different doses of radiation.16. The largest, a magnitude 5.6 quake, shook thousands of fans in a college football stadium, caused cracks in a few buildings and rattled the nerves of many people who had never felt a quake before. Oklahoma is not an area of the country famousfor its quakes. If you watch the news on TV, you see reports about all sorts of natural disasters —hurricanes, tornadoes, flooding and wildfires, to name a few. But the most dangerous type of natural disaster, and also the most unpredictable, is the earthquake.Researchers at the U.S. Geological Survey estimate that several million earthquakes rattle the globe each year. That may sound scary, but people don’t fee l many of the tremors because they happen in remote and unpopulated regions. Many quakes happen under the ocean, and others have a very small magnitude, or shaking intensity.A magnitude 5.8 earthquake that struck central Virginia the afternoon of August 23, 2011, was felt from central Georgia to southeastern Canada. In many urban areas, including Washington, D.C., and New York City (Wall Street shown), people crowded the streets while engineers inspected buildings.Credit: Wikimedia/Alex Tabak Scientists know about small, remote quakes only because of very sensitive electronic devices called seismometers. These devices detect and measure the size of ground vibrations produced by earthquakes. Altogether, USGS researchers use seismometers to identify and locate about 20,000 earthquakes each year.Although earthquakes can happen anywhere in the world, really big quakes occur only in certain areas. The largest ones register a magnitude 8 or higher and happen, on average, only once each year. Such big ones ty pically occur along the edges of Earth’s tectonic plates.Tectonic plates are huge pieces of Earth’s crust, sometimes many kilometers thick. These plates cover our planet’s surface like a jigsaw puzzle. Often, jagged edges of these plates temporarily lock together. When plates jostle and scrape past each other earthquakes occur. On average, tectonic plates move very slowly — about the same speed as your fingernails grow. But sometimes earthquakes rumble through portions of the landscape far from a plate’s edges. Although less expected, these “mid-plate” tremors can do substantial damage. Some of the biggest known examples rattled the eastern half of the United States two centuries ago. Today, scientists are still puzzling over why the quakes occurred and when similar ones might occur.16. So he went to Australia, stopping off in many countries between. He also decided to write about the experience and produced a guide for other travelers making similar journeys. In 1970, British airports were used by 32million people. In 2004, the figure was 216 million. In 2030, according to government forecas ts, it will be around 500 million. It’s a growth driven by the emergence of low cost airlines, offering access to all parts of the world for less than £100.This has made a huge contribution to global warming. One return flight from Britain to the US produces the same carbon dioxide (二氧化碳)as a year’s motoring (驾车). A return flight to Australia equals the emissions (排放)of three average cars for a year. And the pollution is released at a height where its effect on climate change is more than double that on the ground.Mark Ellingham built his business on helping people travel. Now he wants to help people stop – at least by air.He is calling for a £100 green tax on all flights to Europe and Africa, and £250 on flights to the rest of the world. He also wants investment to create a low-carbon economy, as well as a halt to airport expansion.Mark Ellingham’s commitment is important because his readers aren’t just the sort of young and adventurous people who would happily jump on a plane to spend a weekend exploring a foreign culture. They are also the sort of people who say they care about the environment. It’s a debate that splits people down the middle. The tourist industry has responded by offering offsetting (补偿) schemes. A small increase in the price of a ticket is used to plant trees. But critics say that it is not enough to just be carbon neutral. We should be actively cutting back on putting greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. And for the average person, making a plane journey will be his or her largest contribution to global warming. It may be good to repair the damage we do. But surely it is better not to do the damage in the first place.16. Mark Ellingham spent quite a few days in China on his way to Australia 25 years ago. In the days of Napoleon the same wind which would have carried his transports across the Channel might have driven away the blockading (封锁) fleet. There was always the chance, and it is that chance which has excited and befooled ( 愚弄) the imaginations of many continental tyrants. Many are the tales that are told. We are assured that novel methods will be adopted, and when we see the originality of malice (怨恨),the ingenuity of aggression, which our enemy displays, we may certainly prepare ourselves for every kind of novel stratagem ( 战略) and every kind of brutal and treacherous (奸诈的) maneuver( 花招). I think that no idea is so outlandish ( 古怪的) that it should not be considered and viewed with a searching, but at the same time, I hope, with a steady eye.We must never forget the solid assurances of sea power and those which belong to air power if it can be locally exercised. I have, myself, full confidence that if all do their duty, if nothing is neglected, and if the best arrangements are made, as they are being made, we shall prove ourselves once again able to defend our island home, to ride out the storm of war, and to outlive the menace(威胁) of tyranny, if necessary for years, if necessary alone. At any rate, that is what we are going to try to do. This is the resolve of His Majesty's government--every man of them. This is the will of parliament and the nation. The British Empire and the French republic, linked together in their cause and in their need, will defend to the death their native soil, aiding each other like good comrades to the utmost of their strength. Even though large tracts of Europe and many old and famous states have fallen or may fall into the grip of the Gestapo and all the odious (可憎的) apparatus of Nazi rule, we shall not flag ( 变弱) or fail.We shall go on to the end, we shall fight in France, we shall fight on the seas and oceans, we shall fight with growing confidence and growing strength in the air, we shall defend our island, whatever the cost might be, we shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills, we shall never surrender, and even if, which I do not for a moment believe, this island or a large part of it were subjugated(征服)and starving, then our empire beyond the seas, armed and guarded by the British fleet, would carry on the struggle, until, in God's good time, the new world, with its power and might, steps forth to the rescue and the liberation of the old.16. 2019年中考英语一轮复习阅读理解习题选1人教新目标版
2019年中考英语阅读理解习题选(1)及答案【实战训练】A(2019中考教育类选练)Do you consider failure as an ending? Do you often feel after a failure that you are good for nothing? Then be careful, you are one of them who have bad relationship with failure. And this is the only reason why people often keep themselves away from their success. The power of failure is that it helps us to learn fro our mistakes and missteps and we must consider a failure as an opportunity to grow rather than giving up.Let's discover the reasons why successful people believe that opportunity lies in every failure. Disappointment or failure shows that you are tryingThe best way to gauge(衡量)your progress at something is to see how many times you failed. In case you haven't failed yet, chances are that you haven't tried hard yet.Look at all successful men and women throughout our history, they all had one thing in common. That's to say they failed not once but several times before they achieved success. Let's take an example of Thomas Edison: he failed a lot of times to find right filament(灯丝)for his light bulb. Henry Ford had a stronger relationship with failure, which inspired him to quote this unforgettable saying “failure is the opportunity to begin again, more intelligently.”Achievement lies in looking at failure as an opportunityJust like every successful person had one thing in common, similarly all unsuccessful persons throughout our history had one thing in common --- their inability to use failure as an opportunity and a tool. If you feel your one failure is your ultimate (终极的)failure, and that feeling of sinking down is known as an ultimate failure, you are pushing yourself away from your expected success. Achievement is all about finding out what mistakes you made, what is the main cause of that failure, and how you are going to make up for it.Success requires willpower, passion, hard work, intelligence, determination, but all of the above, success requires failure. Use your failure as an opportunity to learn, to become wiser and to reconsider your relationship with failure, the true key to success.1. According to the writer, why do people keep themselves away from their success?A. Because they don't set long-term goals.B. Because they haven't got enough time.C. Because they can't deal with failure properly.D. Because they are disappointed in themselves.2. Why does the writer take the example of Thomas Edison?A. To explain the reasons for failure.B. To prove the importance of failure.C. To take pride in Thomas Edison.D. To introduce the process of making a light bulb.3. What can you learn from the passage?A. Failure can build up your confidence.B. Successful people seldom failed.C. Failure is more important than success.D. Successful people use failure as a tool.参考答案1. C 2. B 3. The butterfly tries to get out of its chrysalis(蛹). Feeling sorry for it, the man decides to help. He cuts the chrysalis and the butterfly comes out easily. Surprisingly enough, the butterfly is unable to fly. If the butterfly doesn’t struggle(挣扎;奋斗) to leave the chrysalis, it can’t fly! The struggle develops the energy in the butterfly which makes it fly. Similarly, the challenges of life bring out the best in young people and make the fly. When people are young, meeting and overcoming challenges will make them strong and ready to face life. When we look at successful people, we see that the most successful of them are people who have had to struggle. One famous businessman, who now owns many big supermarkets, used to carry clothes on his back and sell them from door to door when he was young. Another successful man is Dennis. His father died when he was only twenty. His father’s death forced him to mature fast. He had to bring up a family of nine people. He took up the challenges and overcame them. Today his brothers and sisters are leading successful lives.Sometimes challenges do not appear to us because we keep away from them. So some parents and teachers actively encourage young people to face challenges. They might organize some activities for young people which provide them with challenges, like rock-climbing, camping, volunteer work and so on. However, just passing exams will not prepare a person for life. We must meet and overcome challenges. The young people of today will become the leaders of tomorrow. For countries to continue to become successful, it is important that the young people learn to meet challenges and overcome them.1. The World's Longest Bridge Rumor has it that a legendary six-headed monster lurks in the deep waters of the Tyrrhenian Sea between Italy and the island of Sicily. (46)When completed in 2010, the world's longest bridge will weigh nearly 300,000 tons — equivalent to the iceberg that sank the Titanic —and stretch 5 kilometers long. “That's nearly 50 percent longer than any other bridge ever built,”says structural engineer Shane Rixon.(47) They're suspension bridges, massive structuresbuilt to span vast water channels or gorges. A suspension bridge needs just two towers to shoulder the structure's mammoth weight, thanks to hefty supporting cables slung between the towers and anchored firmly in deep pools of cement at each end of the bridge. The Messina Strait Bridge will have two 54,100-ton towers, which will support most of the bridge's load. The beefy cables of the bridge, each 1.2 meter in diameter, will hold up the longest and widest bridge deck ever built. When construction begins on the Messina Strait Bridge in 2005, the first job will be to erect two 370 meter-tall steel towers. (48) Getting these cables up will be something. It'snot just their length — totally 5.3 kilometers — but their weight. (49)After lowering vertical“suspender”cables f rom the main cables, builders will erect a 60 meter-wide 54.630-ton steel roadway, or deck — wide enough to accommodate 12 lanes of traffic. The deck's weight will pull down on the cables with a force of 70,500 tons. In return, the cables yank up against their firmly rooted anchors with a force of 139,000 tons —equivalent to the weight of about 100,000 cars. Those anchors are essential. (50)A Some environmentalists are against the project on biological grounds.B What do the world's longest bridges have in common?考试用书C If true, one day you might spy the beast while zipping (呼啸而过) across the Messina Strait Bridge.D They're what will keep the bridge from going anywhere.E The second job will be to pull two sets of steel cables across the strait, each set being a bundle of 44,352 individual steel wires.F They will tip up the scales at 166,500 tons — more than half the bridge's total mass.参考答案:46. Almost from the earliest annals of recorded time individuals have found ready audiences fortheir accounts of journeys to strange and exotic locales.1One of the earliest travel writers,a Greek geographer and historian named Strabo, lived around the time of Christ. Though Strabo is known to have traveled from east of the Black Sea west to Italy and as far south as Ethiopia,he also used details gleaned from other writers to extend and enliven his accounts. His multivolumed work Geography provides the only surviving account of the cities, peoples, customs, and geographical peculiarities of the whole known world of his time. Two other classic travel writers, the ltalian Marco Polo and the Moroccan Ibn Battutah, lived in roughly the same time period. Marco Polo traveled to China with his father and uncle in about A.D.1275 and remained there 16 or 17years,visiting several other countries during his travels. When Marco returned to ltaly he dictated hismemoirs, including stories he had heard from others,to a scribe, with the resulting book II milione being an instant success.Though difficult to attest to the accuracy of all he says,Marco's book impelled Europeans to begin their great voyages of exploration. 2 lbn Battutah's interest in travelbegan on his required Muslim joumey to Mecca in 1325,and during his lifetime he journeyed through all the countries where Islam held sway. 3 His travel book the Rihlah is a personalized account of desert journeys, court intrigues, and even the effect of the Back Death in the various lands he visited . In almost 30 years of traveling it is estimated that Ibn Battutah covered more than 75,000 miles.注释:1. We may be able to hang on to1 most of that youthful vigor even if we don't start to diet until old age.Stephen Spindler and his colleagues from the University of California at Riverside have found that some of an elderly mouse's liver genes can be made to behave as they did when the mouse was young simply by limiting its food for four weeks. The genetic rejuvenation won't reverse other damage caused by time for the mouse, but could help its liver metabolize drugs or get rid of toxins2.Spindler's team fed three mice a normal diet for their whole lives, and fed another three on half-rations. Three more mice were switched from the normal diet to half-feed3 for a month when they were 34 months old—equivalent to about 70 human years. The researchers checked the activity of 11,000 genes from the mouse livers, and found that 46 changed with age in the normally fed mice. The changes were associated with things like inflammation and free radical production4—probably bad news for mouse health. In the mice that had dieted all their lives, 27 of those 46 genes continued to behave like young genes. But the most surprising finding was that the mice that only started dieting in old age also benefited from 70 per cent of these gene changes.“This is the first indication that thee effects kick in5 pretty quickly,” says Huber Warner from the NationalInstitute on Aging near Washington, D. C.No one yet knows if calorie works in people as it does in mice, bus Spindler is hopeful. “There's attracting and tempting evidence out there that it will work,” he says.If it does work in people, there might be good reasons for rejuvenating the liver. As we get older, out bodies are les efficient at metabolizing drugs, for example. A brief periodof time of dieting, says Spindler, could be enough to makesure a drug is effective. But Spindler isn't sure the trade-off is worth it6. “Themice get less disease, they live longer but they're hungry,” he says. “Even seeing what a diet does, it's still hard togo to a restaurant and say:'I can only eat half of that'.”Spindler hopes we soon won't need to diet at all. His company, Life Span Genetics in California, is looking for drugs that have the effects of calorie restriction.练习:1. According to the passage, which of the following is NOT true?A. Eating less than usual might make us live longer.B. If we go on a diet when old, we may keep healthy.C. Dieting might not be needed.D. We have to begin dieting from childhood.2. They will not experience free radical production.B. They will experience more genetic rejuvenation in their lifetime.C. They have more old liver genes to behave like young genes.D. They are more likely to suffer from inflammation.4. According to the author, which of the following most interested the researchers?A. The mice that started dieting in old age.B. 27 of those 46 old genes that continued to behave like young genes.C. Calorie restriction that works in people.D. Dieting that makes sure a drug is effective.5. According to the last two paragraphs, Spindler believes thatA. calorie restriction is very important to young peopleB. seeing the effect of a diet, people will eat less than normal.C. dieting is not a good method to give us health and a long life.D. drugs do not have the effects of calorie restriction.答案与题解:1. 2019年职称英语阅读理能力训练一
2019年职称英语阅读理能力训练一Continuing Medical EducationThere is increasing recognition of the need for health workers to continue their education throughout their careers. Not only do health workers themselves wish to improve their own skills and competence, but the introduction of new techniques and equipment and the changes taking place in health needs and health care policies necessitate continued training. The phrase "health care" is intended to mean not just curative treatment for the sick but the whole range of provision for promoting health and preventing disease. In virtually every situation some response to this need has been made, so continuing education does take place -- even though it may in many instances be ineffective or insufficient. Continuing education may be initiated by the health workers themselves, by their supervisors, by the managers of the health system, or by other agencies such as professional associations, publishers, and drug companies The form of the continuing education may be written materials (journals, books, advertisements), meetings, courses, supervisory visits, or a variety of other methods. With this diversity of approach it is not surprising that the effectiveness of the continuing education should be variable. So it is natural that in many countries there is concern that more continuing education should be provided and that it should be more effective. The approach suggested that to achieve this aim is to develop a "system" of continuing education. This term needssome explanation as it is capable of being interpreted in many ways. A system is not the same thing as an organization that provides continuing education. It is much more than that. It is the sum of the educational activities, theorganizational structure that supports and manages those activities, the management, and the external agenciesinvolved in the provision of health care. The system should comprise a nationwide coordinated program in which technology and resources are optimally used.1. Health workers themselves are aware of the importanceof continued training.A. 2019年职称英语综合类C级阅读理解例题精讲1Eat Healthy“Clean your plate!” and “Be a member of the clean-plate club!” (第一题:父母教孩子们不要浪费粮食。
)Just about every kid in the US has heard this from a parent or grandparent. Often, it’s accompanied by an appeal:“Just think about those starving ophans in Africa!” Sure, we should be grateful for every bite of food. Unfortunately, many people in the US take too many bites. Instead of staying “clean the plate”, perhaps we should save some food for tomorrow.According to the news reports, US restaurants are partly to blame for the growing bellies. A waiter puts a plate of food in front of each customer, with two to four times the amount recommended bu the government, according to a USA Today story. Americans traditionally associate quantity with value and most restaurants try to give them that.(第二题) They prefer to have customers complain about too much food rather than too little.Barbara Rolls, a nutrition professor at Pennsylvania State University, told USA Today (《今日美国》报)that restaurant portion size began to grow in the 1970s, the same time the American wasteline began to expand.(第三题)Health experts have tried to get many restaurants to serve smaller portions. Now, apparently, some customers are calling for this, too. The restaurant industry trade magazine QSR reported last month that 57 percent of more than 4,000 people surveyed(调查) believe restaurants serve portions thatare too large; 23 percent had no opinion; 20 percent disagreed. But a closer look at the survey indicates that many Americans who can’t afford fine d ining still prefer large portions.(第四题) Seventy percent of those earning at $150,000 per year prefer smaller portions; but 45 percent of those earning less than $25,000 per year want smaller. It’s not that working class Americans don’t want to eat healthy. (第五题:美国工人并不是不想吃得更加健康。

2019年职称英语备考辅导综合阅读必备练习题一 Eiffel Is an Eyeful
Some2 300 meters up, near the Eiffel Tower's wind-whipped summit the world comes to scribble3. Japanese,Brazilians, Americans — they graffiti4 their names, loves and politics on the cold iron — transforming the most French of monuments into symbol of a world on the move5.
With Paris laid out in miniature6 below,it seems strange
that visitors would rather waste time marking their presence than admiring the view7. But the graffiti also raises a question : Why, nearly 114 years after it was completed, and decades after it ceased to be the world, s tallest
structure,is la Tour Eiffel still so popular8?
The reasons are as complex as the iron work that graces9 a structure some 90 stories high. But part of the answer is, no doubt, its agelessness. Regularly maintained, it should never rust away. Graffiti is regularly painted over, but the tower lives on.
"Eiffel represents Paris and Paris is France. It is very symbolic”,says Hugues Richard10,a 31- year-old Frenchman who holds the record for cycling up to the tower's second floor 一 747 steps in 19 minutes and 4 seconds, without touching the floor with his feet. "It's iron lady,It
inspires us11 ”, he says.
But to what12? After all,the tower doesn' t have a purpose.
It ceased to be the world’ s tallest in 1930 when the Chrysler Building13 went up in New York. Yes,television and
radio signals are beamed from the top,and Gustave Eiffel,a frenetic builder who died on December 27,aged 91 ,used its height for conducting research into weather, aerodynamics and radio communication.
But in essence the tower inspires simply by being there _ a blank canvas for visitors to make of it what they will14. To the technically minded15, it's an engineering triumph. For lovers, it's romantic.
"The tower will outlast all of us,and by a long wa y16”,says Isabelle Esnous, whose company manages Eiffel Tower.
