Some parts were super steep and difficult to climb, but the views from the top were breathtaking. I could look out for miles across the surrounding mountains and valleys. No wonder it's considered one of the great wonders of the world! My legs were jelly afterwards but it was so worth it.From Beijing, we drove west towards Xi'an to see the Terracotta Warriors. Along the way, the scenery changed from the flat plains around Beijing to rugged, rolling hills and farm fields. I'll never forget the first glimpse I got of the warriors - thousands of life-sized statues assembled in battle formation, each with a unique facial expression and details. It was like being transported back 2,000 years to ancient China. Simply incredible.The food in Xi'an was delicious too. My favorite was the lamb skewers Dad got from a street vendor. So tender and full of flavor from the special spices. And then there were those nourishing, stretchy noodles Xi'an is famous for. Slurping them up made the biggest satisfying noise!Our next destination was Chengdu to visit family and see the famous pandas. I have an aunt, uncle and cousins living there soit was amazing to meet up with them after so long apart. They took us to the best hot pot restaurants - I'd never had such delicious spicy broth before! And don't even get me started on the little steamed buns stuffed with sweet pork. My mouth is watering just thinking about them...But as great as the food was, nothing could top our day at the Chengdu Panda Research Base. Seeing those gentle, bamboo-munching giants up close was a dream come true. They looked so cuddly and soft but the zookeeper told us their jaws were strong enough to crush bamboo trunks! We even got to prepare some panda snacks by smashing bamboo and spreading out some vitamin supplements. Meeting those endangered creatures was an experience I'll never forget.From Chengdu, we drove southwest towards the scenic town of Dali in Yunnan province. The winding mountain roads were a little scary at times with all the hairpin turns, but the views of the jade-colored lakes and limestone hills made it so worthwhile. Dali itself was like a real-life fairy tale town with its cobblestone streets, traditional white-washed houses, and ancient pagodas.We took a boat tour across Erhai Lake one day and the water was so crystal clear you could see straight down to the bottom. Our guide pointed out beautiful Butterfly Spring near theshoreline, where millions of butterflies are said to go to rest. I didn't spot any that day but it was still serene and picturesque.Our final stop was the bustling city of Kunming, also in Yunnan. By that point we'd traveled over 3,000 kilometers from Shanghai! One of the biggest highlights in Kunming was visiting the breathtaking Stone Forest. It's this bizarre landscape of karst rock formations, some shaped like petrified trees and others like twisted ribbons of gray rock. Wandering through those eerie, maze-like paths made me feel like I was on an alien planet. Definitely one of the coolest (and strangest) natural wonders I've ever seen!We finished off our Yunnan adventures by hiking up to a scenic overlook in the Western Hills. The views across the lush valley and Dianchi Lake were simply stunning at sunset. A perfect final memory before heading back to the big city buzz of Shanghai.Well, that was my incredible cross-country summer adventure in a nutshell! Three and a half weeks of unforgettable sights, sounds, and flavors. I took so many pictures and videos to help me remember every single amazing moment. Even though I saw so many iconic landmarks and natural wonders, I think my favorite part was all the little things - like watching thelandscapes gradually change out the car window, trying delicacies from each new region, and meeting locals to learn about their customs and way of life.This trip really opened my eyes to just how vast, diverse and beautiful China is.
