漫谈语言知识与语言运用培养学生初步运用英语交际的能力是中学英语教学的最终目的,在使用九年义务教育英语新教材的过程中,许多中学教师遇到一些问题,如语言知识与语言运用能力到底是一种什么关系,知识向能力的转化,关键因素是什么,如何克服听说与读写脱节的问题,等等。
本文试图通过对这些问题的探讨,能从理论上和实践方面提出一些解决问题的途径。
一、语言知识与运用语言的关系对语言知识和语言运用的不同侧重,实际上是体现了两种不同的语言本质观。
如果把语言看成是一个知识性系统,那么掌握语言的知识(语音、词汇、语法等)则成了外语教学的最高目标;如果把语言看成是一个交际系统,那么在教学中则会注意对学生进行听说读写的技能训练和能力培养。
前一种知识性系统语言观左右了我国中学外语教学许多年,它的影响渗透到了语言教育的许多方面,其影响是深远的。
“聋哑脖和“高分低能”症均是这种语言教学观的产物。
尽管一些学校经过努力,在教学中对学生进行听说读写的基本训练,较全面地提高了学生的语言运用能力,然而毕竟是曲高和寡,影响不大。
再者由于测试的反拔作用,外语教学仍旧停留在语言知识的传授和操练上。
后一种语言教学观在教学实践中因许多教师不了解语言知识在能力形成中的作用,虽然也注重对学生进行听说读写能力的培养,但是效果并不太理想。
如果辩证地来看语言知识和语言运用能力的关系,它们实际是一种相辅相成的统一体。
语言知识是进行听说读写能力培养的基础和前提,没有这个基础,运用语言进行交际活动的过程就难以实现。
外语交际能力的培养是建立在牢固掌握语言基础知识和灵活运用知识之上的。
然而知识不等于能力。
那种认为掌握了语言知识就等于掌握了语言的观点是错误的。
二、语言知识向语言运用能力转化的关键因素———教师如果从事物发生发展的内部规律看,从语言知识向语言运用能力转化有一个中间媒介,即语言形成自动化习惯的听说读写技能训练。
但是,促使任何事物的变化都有它的外部因素在起作用。
在这里,教师自身素质的高低是决定知识向能力能否成功转化的一个重要因素。

同样,语文素养这座精神大厦也必须重视基础———语文基础知识的学习在语文教育工作者心中早已是不争的共识,因为语文基础知识是形成和发展语文能力的基础和必要因素,是进行语文能力训练的先导。
但是,有些教师在指导学生迎接学生求学生涯的第一次大考验中考的复习中却不涉及基础知识, 也有不少学校在平时的语文教学中没有留给语文基础知识教学本应占有的位置。
究其原因,可能是由于片面地领会了教育部关于中考语文“着重考查学生阅读能力和表达能力”这一精神,又表层地解读了全国各地中考试题所致。
顾望2003年中考,其最显著的特点即是大部分省市以“(语文知识)积累与运用”板块取代了过去试题中的“基础知识”板块(两者的不同在于“积累与运用”取消了考查名词术语等那些死的知识,不设文体常识题,也不设语法、修辞等纯知识性题),还有个别省市试题根本不设“基础知识”或取而代之以“积累与运用”板块,而是只设“阅读”和“写作”两大板块。
然而只要留心研读其试题,就不难发现,命题者巧妙地将对部分基础知识的考查融入阅读中。
由此看来, 中考对基础知识的考查并未取消, 而是以更灵活的形式,以真正能考查出学生的语文素养、语文能力的题型出现在试题中,这对学生的综合能力的要求更高。
对此,我们在指导学生复习时应该多一些理性思考,少一点感性认识,一如既往地注重基础知识复习,只是要更新一些观念和方法,使学生在这一阶段的学习中真正获益,提升语文素养。
那么近几年来取代了“基础知识”的“积累与运用”板块考查哪些方面的内容呢,这一板块基本上包括七个方面:1.正确辨识拼音,正确认读常用汉字,规范地书写汉字。
2.积累词语(特别是成语),懂得词语在不同语境中的含义。
3.辨识句子使用的修辞方法, 能从句式、简明、连贯、得体等方面对句子进行辨析,修改病句,仿照句式造句。
