2019 高考英语二轮(阅读理解)能力提高操练(04)及分析(****** )Did you ever think someone was scary because they looked different or atestrange food? Well, they might think the same about you! One of the things we allneed to do is to celebrate variety. We shouldn't think badly of people from othercultures because they are different from our own.Sometimes we judge people from other countries unfairly, because one person fromthat culture did something bad. Well, has your class ever been punished just because a few kids were causing trouble? Has your whole family ever been blamed for something your little sister did? It doesn't seem fair, does it? It's just asunfair to blamea whole culture for what two or three people do.So here are some things that you can do to help yourself understand other cultures: 1. Find commonground! Rememberthat even though some people look different on the outside, it doesn't change what they look on the inside. They still have the samefeelings!2. Don't blame everyone because of one! 'So let's-say someone from another culture is being mean and you decide to avoid everyone from that culture. Well, think about it Why are you blaming them for something they didn't have anything to do with? Put yourself in their shoes. Howwould you feel? Trying, to understand how a person thinks can be a very good way to understand why they are acting that way. Remember, otherpeople may not think the same way.3. Try to make friends with people from other cultures. You could ask themwhat they know about their culture, or what it was like in their country. Try foods from that culture, or ask them if they know any words in that language. You mightbe surprised at how pure other cultures can be! You call have great discussions and have lots of fun doing new things.4.Know that people always judge other people. If you know what you arethinking then you can help make things easier. Pay attention to what you thinkabout other people. It helps!1.What is mainly discussed in this passage?A.Why there are differences between people.B.What to do to understand other cultures.C.How people feel when they meet people from other cultures.D.Where differences between people lie. 2.In the author' s opinion, one mistake about how we treat culturaldifferences is that we_________.A.cannot see and share what people have in commonB.believe that other people may certainly thin badly of usC.don't want to learn anything valuable in other culturesD.try to find the reason for the differences答案: B指导:细节理解题. A3.The underlined word "celebrate" here most probably means_________.A.to feel proud ofB.to express ideas toC.to praise and enjoyD.to pay attention to答案: C 指导:词义猜想题.celebrate 往常旳意义是“庆贺”,但这里应是“欣赏”之意.celebrate variety意即要把文化旳差异看作是一件好事.4. By saying "... then you can help make things easier. "the author means youwill_________.A. make more friendsB. know more about the worldC. have more fun in lifeD. find fewer differences between you and others答案: D指导:猜想句意题. A very little boy was spending his Saturday morning playing in his sandbox. 四、推理判断——细节推断题(2018·6月天津,B)When I was 17,I read a magazine article about a museum called the McNay,once the home of a watercolorist named Marian McNay.She had requested the community to turn it into a museum upon her death. On a sunny Saturday,Sally and I drove over to the museum. She asked,“Do you have the address?”“No,but I’ll recognize it,there was a picture in the magazine.”“Oh,stop.There it is!”The museum was free.We entered, excited.A group of people sitting in the hall stopped talking and stared at us.“May I help you?” a man asked.“No,” I said.“We’re fine.” Tour guides got on my nerves. What if they talked a long time about a painting you weren’t that interested in?Sally had gone upstairs. The people in the hall seemed very nosy(爱窥探的),keeping their eyes on me with curiosity. What was their problem?I saw some nice sculptures in one room.Suddenly I sensed a man standing behind me.“Where do you think you are?”he asked.I turned sharply.“The McNay Art Museum!” He smiled, shaking his head.“Sorry, the McNay is on New Braunfels Street.”“What’s this place?”I asked, still confused.“Well,it’s our home.”My heart jolted(震颤).I raced to the staircase and called out,“Sally! Come down immediately!”“There’s some really good stuff(艺术作品) up there.”She stepped down, looking confused.I pushed her toward the front door, waving at the family, saying,“Sorry, please forgive us,you have a really nice place.” Outside, when I told Sally what happened, she covered her mouth, laughing. She couldn’t believe how long they let us look around without saying anything. The real McNay was splendid, but we felt nervous the whole time we were there.Van Gogh,Picasso. This time,we stayed together,in case anything else unusual happened.Thirty years later,a woman approached me in a public place.“Excuse me,did you ever enter a residence, long ago, thinking it was the McNay Museum?”“Yes.But how do you know?We never told anyone.”“That was my home.I was a teenager sitting in the hall. Before you came over,I never realized what a beautiful place I lived in.I never felt lucky before. You thought it was a museum. My feelings about my home changed after that.I’ve always wanted to thank you.”41.What do we know about Marian McNay?A.She was a painter.B.She was a community leader.C.She was a museum director.D.She was a journalist.

Job interviews never seem easy. To get a job, you may have more interviews than you can count. To succeed in an interview, you should pay attention to the following common mistakes.Lack of proper preparation. Failure to gather information on the company and the job before the interview makes a very poor impression on interviewers; it s uggests that you really are not that interested in the position.Inappropriate personal appearance. Consider the nature of the position and dress accordingly. When in doubt, dress somewhat more formally than you think would be expected for the job. Be conservative (保守的)and pay attention to details, such as shiny shoes, neat hair, etc. First impressions are very important.Poor nonverbal communication. In addition to what you are saying, your nonverbal behavior is very important in an interview. Are you making eye contact? Are you listening attentively when the interviewer is speaking? Are you giving a firm handshake when greeted by the interviewer(s)?Are you nervous during the interview? Practice with a friend or in front of a mirror to assess these factors.Poor attitude. Selfcentered behavior (i.e. a “what's in it for me” attitude) is very poorly received by interviewers. Ask yourself what you can contribute to the company? What skills and experience would you bring to the job?Failure to ask questions. Employers will assess your interest in the company and the position by the types of questions you ask. Proper research prior to the interview will help ensure that the questions yo u ask are intelligent ones.Being disorganized. Make sure you arrive at the interview a few minutes early so that you have time to get calm and check your appearance. Arriving late is simply unacceptable, so plan for the unexpected. Always bring an extra copy of your resume (简历) and references to an interview.Over or underanswering questions. For most interview questions a “Yes” or “No” answer is not appropriate. Provide more details for an employer and cite (引用) examples from personal experience wherever possible. Do not, however, talk endlessly and feel that you have to keep speaking if there's a silence. When you have said what you want to say, stop talking. If you do not understand a question, seek clear explanation before responding.Failure to send a thankyou note or card following the interview. You can use it to fly a kite or to sail a boat. Wind is one of our cleanest and richest power sources (来源), as well as one of the oldest. Evidence shows that windmills (风车) began to be used in ancient Iran back in the seventh century BC. They were first introduced to Europe during the 1100s, when armies returned from the Middle East with knowledge of using wind power. For many centuries, people used windmills to grind (磨碎) wheat into flour or pump water from deep underground when electricity was discovered in the late 1800s, people living in remote areas began to use them to produce electricity. This allowed them to have electric lights and radio. However, by the 1940s when electricity was available to people in almost all areas of the United States, windmills were rarely used.During the 1970s, people started becoming concerned about the pollution that is created when coal and gas are burned to produce electricity. People also realized that the supply of coaland gas would not last forever. Then, wind was rediscovered, though it means higher costs. Today, there is a global movement to supply more and more of our electricity through the use of wind. 5.From the text we know that windmills ________.A. were invented by European armiesB. have a history of more than 2,800 yearsC. used to supply power to radio in remote areasD. have rarely been used since electricity was discovered答案:C. 6.What was a new use for wind power in the late l9th century?A. I also love my laptop computer,as it holds all of my writing and this love of technology, I know that there are times when I need to move away from these device(设备) and truly communicate with others. On occasion,I teach a course called History Matters for a group of higher education managers. My goals for the class include a full discussion of historical themes and I want students to thoroughly study the material and exchange their ideas with each other in the classroom,I have a rule—no laptops, iPads, phones, students were told my rule in advance of the class, some of them were not happy. Most students assume that my reasons for this rule include unpleasant experiences in the past with students misusing technology. There's a bit of truth to students assume that I am anti-technology. There's no truth in that at all. I love technology and try to keep up with it so I can relate to my students. The real reason why I ask students to leave technology at the door is that I think there are very few places in which we can have deep conversations and truly engage complex ideas. Interruptions by technology often break concentration and allow for too much dependence on outside information for ideas. I want students to dig deep within themselves for inspiration and ideas. I want them to push each other to think differently and to make connections between course material and the class discussion.I've been teaching my history class in this way for many years and the evaluations reflect student satisfaction with the environment that I realize that with deep conversation and challenge, they learn at a level that helps them keep the course material beyond the classroom.I'm not saying that I won't ever change my mind about technology use in my history class, but until I hear a really good reason for the change,I'm sticking to my plan. A few hours of technology-free dialogue is just too sweet to give up. 9.Some of the students in the history class were unhappy with ________.A. the course materialB. others' misuse of technologyC. discussion topicsD. the author's class regulations答案:D. 由第二段旳“When students were told my rule in advance of the class, some of them were not happy .” 10.The underlined word “engage ”in probably means ________.A. exploreB. acceptC. changeD. reject答案: A.词义猜测题.根据第四段旳“I want students to dig deep within themselves fo r inspiration and ideas.” 11.According to the author, the use of technology in the classroom may ________.A. keep students from doing independent thinkingB. encourage students to have in-depth conversationsC. help students to better understand complex themesD. affect students' concentration on course evaluation答案: A.推理判断题.由第四段旳“Interruptions by technology often break concentration and allow for too much dependence on outside information for ideas .” 12.It can be inferred from the last paragraph that the author ________.A. is quite stubbornB. will give up teaching historyC. will change his teaching plan soonD. values technology-free dialogues in his class答案:D. 介绍“Live Card”与“Get it together团购”旳好处以及预定方式.13.If you want to join Live Card to save money on tickets, you can call________.A.0844 847 2484 B.0800 587 5007C.0844 499 6699 D.0161 245 6609答案:C. 根据Live Card一栏最后一句Call 0844 499 6699 to join Live Card today 可知C项正确.14.How can you pay for a ticket when you book by post?A.By visiting the website of a post office.B.By going to your local bank in person.C.By enclosing your Live Card in an envelope.D.By providing your credit card information. 细读By post一栏可以排除A、B、C三项,D项“提供个人信用卡信息”与该栏中“enclosing (附寄)...your credit details”相对应.15.What benefit can group bookers enjoy according to the text?A.Delayed payment for tickets. What drove our ancestors to move from the trees into the plains, and on into all possible areas and environments The wider the spread of a species, the better its chance of survival. Perhaps the best reason for exploring space is this genetic tendency to expand wherever possible.Nearly every successful civilization has explored, because by doing so, any dangers in surrounding areas can be identified and prepared for. Without knowledge, we may be completely destroyed by the danger. With knowledge, we can lessen its effects.Exploration also allows minerals and other potential(潜在旳) resources to be found. Even if we have no immediate need of them, they will perhaps be useful later. Resources may be more than physical possessions. Knowledge or techniques have been acquired through exploration. The techniques may have medical applications which can improve the length or quality of our lives. We have already benefited from other spin-offs including improvements in earthquake prediction, in satellites for weather forecasting and in communications systems. Even nonstick pans and mirrored sunglasses are byproducts(副产品) of technological developments in the space industry! While many resources are spent on what seems a small return, the exploration of space allows creative, brave and intelligent members of our species to focus on what may serve to save us. While space may hold many wonders and explanations of how the universe was formed or how it works, it also holds dangers. The danger exists, but knowledge can help human beings to survive. Without the ability to reach out across space, the chance to save ourselves might not exist. While Earth is the only planet known to support life, surely the adaptive ability of humans would allow us to live on other planets. It is true that the lifestyle would be different, but human life and cultures have adapted in the past and surely could in the future. 16.Why does the author mention the questions in Paragraph 1?A.To express his doubts. must have always known reading was very important because the first memories I have as a child deal with books. There was not one night that I don't remember mom reading me a storybook by my bedside.I was extremely inspired by the elegant way the words sounded.I always wanted to know what my mom was reading.Hearing mom say,"I can't believewhat's printed in the newspaper this morning," made me want to grab it out of her hands and read it myself.I wanted to be like my mom and know all of the things she knew.So I carried around a book, and each night, just to be like her,I would pretend to be reading. This is how everyone learned to read.We would start off with sentences, then paragraphs, and then stories. It seemed an unending journey, but even as a six﹣year﹣old girl I realized that knowing how to read could open many doors. When mom said,"The C﹣A﹣N﹣D﹣Y is hidden on the top shelf," I knew where the candy was.My progress in reading raised my curiosity, and I wanted to know everything.I often found myself telling my mom to drive more slowly,so that I could read all of the road signs we passed. Most of my reading through primary, middle and high school was factual reading.I read for knowledge, and to make A's on my tests.Occasionally,I would read a novel that was assigned, but I didn't enjoy this type of reading.I liked facts, things that are concrete.I thought anything abstract left too much room for argument.Yet,now that I'm growing and the world I once knew as being so simple is becoming more complex,I find myself needing a way to escape.By opening a novel,I can leave behind my burdens and enter into a wonderful and mysterious world where I am now a new character. In these worlds I can become anyone.I don't have to write down what happened or what technique the author was using when he or she wrote this.I just read to relax. We're taught to read because it's necessary for much of human understanding.Reading is a vital part of my life.Reading satisfies my desire to keep learning. And I've found that the possibilities that lie within books are limitless.(1)Why did the author want to grab the newspaper out of mom's hands?BA.She wanted mom to read the news to her.B.She was anxious to know what had happened.C.She couldn't wait to tear the newspaper apart.D.She couldn't help but stop mom from reading.(2)According to Paragraph 3,the author's reading of

(A)Mark Twain was my hero when I was nine because that was when Idiscovered Tom Sawyer. But even at the height of my admiration, I couldnwith him that Anne, the main character in Anne of Green Gables, was “the dearestand most lovable child in fiction since the best-known Alice”. I had read Anne ofGreen Gables as well as Tom Sawyer, and she had made me as sick as a dog.Another Mark Twain’s quote will explain my problem. He said,a boy of 14, my father was so ignorant (无知旳) that I could hardly stand havingthe old man around. But when I got to be 21, I was astonished at how much the oldman had learned in seven years. ” I gradually understood his words as growing up. When I picked upthe book again a few years later, I was too astonished at how much it had improved—and shortlyafterwards shocked by the fact that not only could I be a fool in all sporting, artistic and practicalmatters, I could also be so when it came to reading, too.On rereading, then, I learned that Anne is indeed the dearest and most lovable child. I couldn’thelp adoring the girl who insists that her name be spelled with the “e” instead of Ann as she believesof a severe upbringingthat is “so much more distinguished. ” She is a brave and determined survivorwho has refused to let her circumstances crush her spirit. She arrives at Marilla and MatthewCuthbert’s farmwith everything unfavorable—orphaned, unwanted and her biggest trouble of red-hair and freckled (有雀斑旳) face. However, she gets along well, through her strange way of seeing things, through herhonest love of beauty and lovable attempts to master her unreasonable desires. She finally wins overthe Cuthberts, her neighbors and millions of readers who have met her over the 101 years since thebook was first published. When I settle down with it these days, I’ve come to see the truth in Mark Twain’s praise for t book, and this reminds me of the great truth that you are never too young to start rereading.16. According to Paragraph 1, we can know the writer _______.。

That’s because some studies have shown that rewards can backfire and cause children to lose interest in foods they already liked, said Jane Wardle, a researcher at University College London who worked on the study. Verbal praise, such as “Brilliant! You’re a great vegetable taster,” did not work as well. The study found t hat when parents gave their small children a sticker each time they took a “tiny taste” of a disliked vegetable, it gradually changed their attitudes. Th e children were also willing to eat more of the vegetables-either carrots, celery, cucumber, red pepper, cabbage or sugar snap peas-in laboratory taste tests, the study said.Researchers randomly assigned(分派)173 families to one of these groups. In one, parents usedstickers to reward their children each time they took a tiny sample of a disliked vegetable. A second group of parents used verbal praise. The third group, where parents used no special vegetable-promoting methods, served as a “control”.Parents in the reward groups offered their children a taste of the “target” vegetable every day of 12 days, Soon after, children in the sticker group were giving higher ratings to the vegetables-and were willing to eat more in the research lab, going from an average of 5 grams at the start to about 10 grams after the 12-day experience. The turnaround also seemed to last, with preschoolers in the sticker group still willing to eat more of the once disliked vegetable three months later. Why didn’t the verbal praise work? Wardle said the parents’ words may have seemed “insincere” to their children.16.The purpose of writing the passage is .A.to introduce a practical method of making children eat vegetablesB.to show the procedure of an experiment on children’s dietC.to explain why children hate to eat vegetablesD.to present a proper way of vernal praise to parents17.The underlined word “backfire”in Paragraph 2 probably means “”.

1、 A new commodity brings about a highly profitable,fast-growing industry, urging antitrust(反垄断)regulators to step in to check those who control its flow. A century ago ,the resource in question was oil. Now similar concerns ares being raised by the giants(巨头)that deal in data, the oil of the digital age. The most valuable firms are Google,Amazon, Facebook and Microsoft. All look unstoppable.Such situations have led to calls for the tech giants to be broken up. But size alone is not a crime,The giants' success has benefited consumers. Few want to live without search engines or a quick delivery, Far from charging consumers high prices, many of these services are free (users pay, in effect, by handing over yet more data). And the appearance of new-born giants suggests that newcomers can make waves, too.But there is cause for concern. The internet has made data abundant, all-present and far more valuable, changing the nature of data and competition. Google initially used the data collected from users to target advertising better. But recently it has discovered that data can be turned into new services: translation and visual recognition, to be sold to other companies. Internet companies’ control of data gives them enormous power. So they have a “God’s eye view” of activities in their own markets and beyond. This nature of data makes the antitrust measures of the past less useful. Breaking up firms like Google into five small ones would not stop remaking themselves: in time, one of them would become great again. A rethink is required—and as a new approach starts to become apparent, two ideas stand out.The first is that antitrust authorities need to move form the industrial age into the21st century. When considering a merger(兼并),for example, they have traditionally used size to determine when to step in. They now need to take into account the extent of firms' data assets(资产) when assessing the impact of deals. The purchase price could also be a signal that an established company is buying a new-borm threat. When this takes place, especially when anew-born company has no revenue to speak of, the regulators should raise red flags. The second principle is to loosen the control that providers of on-line services have over data and give more to those who supply panies could be forced to consumers whatinformation they hold and how many money they make form emments could order the sharing of certain kinds of data, with users' consent.Restarting antitrust for the information age will not be easy But if govemments don't wants a data oconomy by a few giants, they must act soon.1.Why is there a call to break up giants?A.They have controlled the data marketB.They collect enormous private dataC.They no longer provide free servicesD.They dismissed some new-born giants2.What does the technological innovation in Paragraph 3 indicate?A.Data giants’ technology is very expensiveB.Google’s idea is popular among data firmsC.Data can strengthen giants’ controlling posit ionD.Data can be turned into new services or products3.By paying attention to firms’ data assets, antitrust regulators could .A.kill a new threatB.avoid the size trapC.favour bigger firmsD.charge higher prices4.What is the purpose of loosening the giants’ control of data?A.Big companies could relieve data security pressure.ernments could relieve their financial pressure.C.Consumers could better protect their privacy.D.Small companies could get more opportunities.2 、El Nino, a Spanish term for “the Christ child”, was named by South American fisherman who noticed that the global weather pattern, which happens every two to seven years, reduced the amount of fishes caught around Christmas. El Nifio sees warm water, collected over several years in the western Pacific, flow back eastwards when winds that normally blow westwards weaken, or sometimes the other way round. The weather effects both good and bad, are felt in many places. Rich countries gain more from powerful Niños, on balance, than they lose. A study found that a strong Niño in 1997 helped American’s economy grow by 15 billion, partly because of better agricultural harvest, farmers in the Midwest gained from extra rain. The total rise in agricultural in rich countries in growth than the fall in poor ones. But in Indonesia extremely dry forests are in flames. A multi-year drought (干旱)insouth-east Brazil is becoming worse. Though heavy rains brought about by El Niño may relieve the drought in California, they are likely to cause surface flooding and other disasters. The most recent powerful Niño, in 1997-98, killed around 21,000 people and caused damage worth $36 billion around the globe. But such Niños come with months of warning, and so much is known about how they happen that governments can prepare. According to the Overseas Development Institute (ODI), however, just 12% of disaster-relief funding in the past two decades has gone on reducing risks in advance, rather than recovery and rebuilding afterwards. This is despite evidence that a dollar spent on risk-reduction saves at least two on reconstruction.Simple improvements to infrastructure (基础设施)can reduce the spread of disease. Better sewers (下水道)make it less likely that heavy rain is followed by an outbreak of the disease of bad stomach. Stronger bridges mean villages are less likely to be left without food and medicine after floods. According to a paper in 2011 by Mr Hsiang and co-authors, civil conflict is related to El Niño's harmful effects—and the poorer the country, the stronger the link. Though the relationship may not be causal, helping divided communities to prepare for disasters would at least reduce the risk that those disasters are followed by killing and wounding people. Since the poorest are least likely to make up for their losses from disasters linked to El Niño, reducing their losses needs to be the priority.1.What can we learn about El Nino in Paragraph 1?A.It is named after a South American fisherman.B.It takes place almost every year all over the world.C.It forces fishermen to stop catching fish around Christmas.D.It sees the changes of water flow direction in the ocean.2.What may El Niños bring about to the countries affected?A.Agricultural harvests in rich countries fall.B.Droughts become more harmful than floods.C.Rich countries’ gains are greater than their losses.D.Poor countries suffer less from droughts economically.3.The data provided by ODI in Paragraph 4 suggest that_________.A.more investment should go to risk reductionernments of poor countries need more aidC.victims of El Niño deserve more compensationD.recovery and reconstruction should come first4.What is the author’s purpose in writing the passage?A.To introduce El Niño and its origin.B.To explain the consequences of El Niño.C.To show ways of fighting against El Niño.D.To urge people to prepare for El Niño.3、 While WeChat is China's biggest mobile messaging app (应用软件),there are many equivalent(相当的) apps in other countries that offer similar features(特征).WhatsApp (US)Users: more than 300 millionPlatforms: Android, 10S, Windows Phone, BlackBerryFeatures:Text chat, push-to-talk, file sharing, location sharingWith more than 300 million active users, WhatsApp is one of WeChat's biggest competitors. He said his suggestion would allow everyone to directly enjoy the fruits of the country’s economic success, help the lower-income groups deal with rising prices and increase consumption(消费)around the country.Recent years have seen the government carry out a series of pro-poor(扶贫)and pro-rural(惠农)policies(政策),including increasing spending on public health-care and cutting down the agricultural tax. But the lower-income group still needs more help.Xing said he has borrowed many ideas from practices in countries like theUnited StatesandSingapore.

(1)What is the main idea of the article/Paragraph 1?
(2)What would be the best title of the passage?
(3)What is the purpose of writing the text/passage?
(4)What does the passage mainly talk about/discuss?
(5)For what purpose does the author mention...in Paragraph 1?

(2)Which sentence in the text is the closest in meaning to the following one?
(3)Please find out the sentence which can be replaced by the following one.

(2)Fill in the blank in Paragraph 3 with proper words.

Translate the underlined sentence in the...paragraph/passage into Chinese.

(1)What advice is given in the third paragraph? (no more than 10 words)
(2)According to Paragraph 2,how does the author settle the problem? (no more than 20 words)
(3)What are the reasons for the problem according to the passage? (no more than 10 words)

(1)What would you do if you were...?
(2)How would you solve the problem if you were...?
(3)What other suggestions would you give to solve the problem mentioned?
