第二部分阅读理解(满分40分)阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中,选出最佳选项。

21.(6分)There are a lot of products out there that make your life easier. Some, however, are a little sillier than
others — so much that they seem like joke products. Here are a few products that sound crazy, but actually true.
Sleep Phones
It’s hard to imagine something sillier than a music-playing headband you wear while you sleep, but they exist —and are quite popular. Sleep Phones won’t give you the highest quality sound in the world, but if you prefer to fall as leep to music, they’re far more comfortable than normal headphones. While they’re a bit expensive, they might be perfect for you. There’s also a wireless version if you prefer.
Onion Goggles
If cutting onion brings on the waterworks no matter what you try, it’s time for desperate measures. We tested a bunch of methods for avoiding onion tears, and found the best solutions came down to cutting the onion under a vent (通风孔), or wearing these stylish and awesome goggles.
Lock Laces
There’re some great ways to t ie your shoes better, but if you long for the laceless shoes of your childhood days, Lock Laces are a pretty good choice. They’re basically elastic (有弹性的) laces that remove the need to tie your shoes. Sure, people will make fun of you, but you can make fun of them after they trip over their own untied laces. Or you can make your own slip-on shoes with elastic tubing.
2D-Glasses
Hate 3D-movies, but have to go to one? The difference between 2D-glasses and 3D-glasses lies in their lenses (镜片). Each lens of 2D-glasses blocks the same picture, so each eye gets the same picture, while each lens of 3D-glasses blocks a different picture, so each eye gets a different picture which the brain interprets as 3D.Now you have a pair of glasses that can save you from the headache caused by wearing 3D-glasses which are popular in our movie theaters. You can buy them or make a pair for yourself.
1、What do we know about Sleep Phones?
A.There are two versions.
B.They’re comfortable but unhealthy.
C.They give you the best quality sound.
D.They’re cheaper than other headphones.
2、The underlined part “brings on the waterworks” in the text probably means _____.
A.makes your eyes water B.makes your fingers hurt
C.destroys your water pipes D.adds to your washing work
3、Compared with 3D-glasses, 2D-glasses _____.
A.are cheaper and thinner B.won’t give you a headache
C.let you see a different picture D.are more popular in movie theaters
22.(8分)Vinegar is great. It makes salad, fries and dumplings taste better, and you can even clean your windows with it. And now, according to scientists, it may even help the planet’s population survive climate change. Researchers from the RIKEN Center for Sustainable Resource Science (CSRS) in Japan proved that. They found growing plants in vinegar makes them more resistant to droughts. This could mean that in the future, worries about climate change affecting the world’s supply of food will be much lower.
The discovery was made after the researchers studied the Arabidopsis, a plant known for its ability to survive in dry weather. It was found that when the plant was placed in drought-like conditions, it produced a chemical called acetate (醋酸盐)—the main component of vinegar.
After discovering this, the scientists experimented further by adding acetate to the soil of other plants before they stopped giving them water completely. After leaving the plants for 14 days, they found that the ones treated with acetate had survived, while the untreated plants had dried up and died.
It’s hoped that this sim ple method of survival could soon be used to help fanners in dry countries keep their crops alive. “In the experiment, we targeted the staple foods of the world—rice, wheat and maize… and proved successful” Jong Myong Kim, co-author of the study, told Popular Science magazine.
Kim has already been in touch with people around the world who are interested in trying this simple and
cost-effective method out for themselves from farmers to companies and amateur gardeners. “Now we are trying to cooperate with the m to make a method to apply this system, and make the process as simple as possible,” he said. 23.(8分)The history of the Louvre Museum, which today contains one of the most important art collections in the world, dates back to the Middle Ages. Built in 112 as a fortress(堡垒)protect Paris from the Vikings, it was transformed into a palace by Francesco I. Since then, for four centuries, French kings and emperors have expanded it. 24.(8分)The summer before my dad died, we moved house. Up until that point, our family had our own space to spread out. Money was tight, so there was no television set, but we owned a turntable on which my dad’s records played constantly. Mostly, it played Bob Dylan. Tracks from The Basement Tapes and Desire became an important part of our new life. My brother and I, aged 8 and 10, climbed trees, built hideaways and learned the words of Clothes Line Saga. Afterwards, our laughter disappeared, but we kept on playing the records, which became our only ritual of remembrance. The two men became so intertwined in my head, I struggled to tell them apart.
Dylan was my dad’s gift to me. What child wouldn’t be fascinated by songs full of pirates and seasic k sailors? How did it feel to have No direction home? Farewell, Angelina became my party-piece. I would sing this at church cheese and wines to the assembled audience. A lot of donations were made.

25.(10分)For eight years, American Alex Honnold dreamed about climbing El Capitan in Yosemite National Park without any safety equipment. But whenever Honnold went to the park and looked up at El Capitan, he became frightened.
That changed last Saturday. Honnold, a world-class rock climber, reached the top of the great rock wall in about four hours. He used only his hands and feet. He is the first person ever to climb the 914-meter high granite wall alone and without ropes or safety equipment to catch him if he fell.
Honnold began preparing for his historic climb two years ago. He climbed El Capitan while wearing safety equipment countless times. He tried to memorize every hole he had to hold and the positions of his body. He repeated the climb again and again, until he felt sure enough to try the so-called “free solo” climb.
The most difficult part of the trip is about 700 meters off the ground. At that point, the very small holds in the rock are only big enough for a thumb to fit. But Honnold said the climb was more mentally difficult than physically difficult. “Each year I wou ld show up and it would seem just much too daunting,” he said.
Observers say Honnold’s climb has pushed the limits in a sport that requires a high level of physical ability,
risk-taking and mental strength.
The climb up El Capitan once took climbers several days to complete with the aid of ropes, safety equipment and a partner. But in the past 20 years, speed climbers working with a partner and using ropes have set records in reaching the top.
In January 2015, Tommy Caldwell and Kevin Jorgeson became the fi rst to “free climb” the Dawn Wall, a very steep climb to the top of El Capitan, They used ropes only to catch them if they fell. They reached the top in 19 days.
Honnold has an extreme ability to control fear and his body for a long period of time.
1、What’s the most difficult part of Honnold’s free-solo climb according to himself?
A.Mental difficulty.
B.Physical difficulty.
C.No safety equipment and no partner.
D.The very small holds about 700 meters off the ground.
2、Which of the following can replace the underlined word “daunting” in Paragraph 4?
A.impressive B.attractive
C.high D.frightening
3、What did observers think of Honnold’s climb?
A.They sang high praise of it.
B.They thought it was meaningless.
C.They criticized him for its danger.
D.They thought it took too much time.
4、What is the best title for this text?
A.El Capitan is Conquered by Humanbeing
B.Climber Reaches the Top of El Capitan Without Ropes
C.Climber Overcomes His Fear to Land on El Capitan
D.No One Dares the Bare-handed Climbing Except Honnold

第二部分阅读理解(满分40分)阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中,选出最佳选项。

21、The “swim-with-dolphins” tourist industry is becoming more popular every year. After all, it can cost a large amount of money to have this kind of holiday experience. So tour operators try to place eager swimmers as near as possible to the dolphins by trying to predict where the dolphins will be.
Research has shown that while dolphins can move away if they do not want to interact (交流)with human swimmers, they do not like it at all if the swimmers slip into the water directly on top of them or if humans are in their path of travel. However, if swimmers enter the water to one side of them, the dolphins do not avoid the swimmers to the same extent.
In all cases, the dolphins seem to have become more sensitive to the presence of the swimmers. For dolphins, swimming amongst or with humans is not necessarily a high priority. This research has shown that only 19% of any group of dolphins will participate in interaction. Young dolphins are the most likely to interact; they do seem curious about being with humans. It is believe d that they see humans as “entertainment” and that the interaction is a new and unusual experience for them.
It is frequently asked whether “swim-with-dolphins” tourism should be discontinued. The advice is that dolphins should be given enough periods of time throughout the day when they are not exposed to tourism. Permitted interactions should not be to o disturbing to the dolphins since there could be mothers and calves (幼崽)present in dolphin groups. There should also be educational campaigns about the creatures and what is likely to cause danger to them.
It is not easy to explain to someone that they cannot fulfill their lifelong dreams because the dolphins are resting, or that a mother dolphin and calf are in the area. But if we are to enjoy these remarkable animals and not just use them for our entertainment, then we must carefully monitor the “swim-with-dolphins” industry worldwide.
