When I get off the bus, I’m usually greeted by the sounds of news on CNN. My father welcomes me, and I help him with the usual things—changing the channel and some other tasks. My father has a disease that makes him unable to walk. Despite his disability, my father has always been my role model.
In my first year at middle school, my grades slipped greatly. My father told me I could improve. I currently maintain(保持)a B plus average, and he confidently supports me in all my academic efforts.
He is against violence to the best of his ability. Love is his most important tool, and he makes sure we know that violence is never the answer.
He urges me not to fear, but to believe in what I think is r ight. “No matter what anyone tells me,” he says, “ I believe what I choose. If someone is discriminating against you for who you are, they don’t deserve your time.” My friends are the most caring people I’ve met, because I realize that they don’t judge me, and they like me as I am.
I’ve always found it strange that people pity me because of my father’s condition. He’s not inferior(次于)to anyone. His disease doesn’t hold him back, He’s a normal person.
When I see disabled people out in public, I consider them equal to any other individual. No one is superior(优越的)to anyone for any physical reason. I’ve known that from day one, thanks to my dad.
“Anything else?” I’ll ask.
“No, that’s fine.”
As I walk to my room, I thank my dad who teaches me the most important things I’ll ever need to know. My father is in no way inferior to anyone else. If anything, he’s even better.

One of the busiest times for any college student is the time period in which they must select their colle ge courses. It’s a very difficult process because there are tons of factors which must be considered and students often get confused by the large number of classes which is available to them. I’ve been in this situation many times. However, I found a few s imple steps which helped me be able to pick out classes. All you need to know is a few simple techniques:
∙Meet with an advisor. Listen to his / her suggestions. If he / she can help you register for classes, this would be the best thing for you. What you need to do is tell him / her what classes you are interested in.
∙. If your goal is to get into another college program after you finish your degree, then you’ll need to keep this in mind. This is because of the fact that every school requires certain classes, and they won’t honor other classes. So you’ll need to speak with the school and keep in mind the things you’re told they’re looking for.
∙Stay within your interest. The most important thing when selecting a class is to make sure
that you’ll do well within the class. Pick something that you’re interested in and you’ll find that it’s easy for you to perform well in the course.

Buying flowers online is more convenient for many busy people. I can still remember the days when you’d have to go to a florist(花商)to buy a bouquet(一束花). Some flower shops didn’t even have delivery services, so getting the gift to your loved one can be pretty difficult. If you can’t find the exact gift that you like, you’d have to go to another florist. The whole thing can
make people become impatient or annoyed.
Fortunately, a flower supermarket is available on the Internet to make shopping more convenient. You can easily find whatever flower arrangements you need from the wide selection. Fruit baskets and gift baskets for all occasions are also available for ordering! From romantic roses to fantastic orchid(兰花)arrangements and everything in between, there is indeed something for everyone.
Looking for the suitable flower gifts that you need has been made even simpler and faster, because you can find them by category. You can find the right gift for the right occasion every time with just one click, whether it’s for a new baby, a birthday, or an anniversary. You can even send get-well presents or sympathy gifts if you need to. You can also choose whether you want your gifts delivered on the same day or the next day.
Technology has definitely made shopping more convenient for a lot of people, especially for those who don’t have time to go from one store to another. Using the Internet allows us to find, order, and send the perfect gift we want. We can shop without leaving our homes, and we’ll have the pleasure that our loved ones can receive their gifts on the exact date we specify(指定). The prices are also affordable and the service is excellent.
67. The author supports his idea by .

A. Doing something on the Internet is very easy.
B. You can choose whatever you want to buy on the Internet.
C. It is very convenient to buy flowers on the Internet.
D. Ordering fruit and gifts on the Internet is interesting.
69. Why is looking for suitable flowers online simpler and faster?
A. Because flowers are presented by category.
B. Because one can contact the florists by sending e-mails.
C. Because there are many buttons to clock.
D. Because one can choose the date to deliver the gift.
70. What can be learned from the last paragraph?

James Watt was born in Greenock in 1736. Watt had little education because of poor health in his youth. But when giving a hand in his father’s shop, he developed an interest in trying to make things “work like clockwork”. In his late teens he went to London and when he returned to Glasgow he got a job making tools for Glasgow University. In 1763 John Anderson asked him to repair an early steam engine. The early model, known as a Newcomen engine, was very unworkable.
Two years later, Watt hit upon the idea of condensing the steam in a separate container and then he stepped into the science field. This removed the need for heating and cooling, making the engine work faster and safer. Watt went into business with Matthew Boulton, a Birmingham engineer, producing engines based on this new method. Engineers from all the industrialized countries went to see their factories.
At the beginning, Watt’s engines were used for pumping water from Cornish copper mines. Later, small new cotton factories, which had been built near fast-flowing rivers to take advantage of water power, almost all were connected to steam. Gradually, those small cotton factories began to move toward the center of population. At first, steam power was used mainly for spinning, but finally weaving was also powered by steam engine. By 1819, when Watt died, there were 18 steam weaving factories in Glasgow.
When Watt was in his sixties, he had become a very rich man. In 1882,63 years after Watt’s death, the British Association gave his name to the unit of electrical power and he was the first to use the term “horse power”. And today James Watt’s name is also found written on almost every light bulb(电灯泡) in the world.
71. When James Watt was young, _______.
A. he helped his father in the shop
B. he was healthy and lively
C. he tried to play like clockwork
D. he lived a poor life like other children
72. The underlined phrase “hit upon” in the second paragraph means “______”.
A. made up
B. turned out
C. thought of
D. worked out
73. The advantage of condensing the steam in a separate container was that _____.
A. it made the steam engine cool faster
B. it could help to save a lot of time
C. it made the steam engine work naturally
D. it helped Watt to make a lot of money
74. The main idea of the third paragraph is that _____.
A. James Watt was very busy every day
B. James Watt made full use of water
C. Watt’s steam engines were used widely
D. Watt’s engines were only used for weaving
75. What is the best title for the passage?
A. James Watt’s rich family
B. Jame s Watt’s great inventions
C. James Watt’s successful business
D. James Watt—the great inventor
第四部分写作(共两节,满分35分)
第一节任务型读写(共10小题;每小题1分,满分10分)
阅读下列短文,根据所读内容在文章后的表格中填入恰当的单词。

注意:表格中的每个空格只填1个单词。

Telepathy is the ability to communicate without the use of five senses (sight, hearing, touch, smell, taste). It’s an instinct which can be woken up in time o f emergency or need.
When we feel that something is happening or about to happening or about to happen by instinct, we’re using resources within the unconscious mind. When the resources of two persons’ unconscious minds link together into the same frequency, we call it telepathy.
We can either send or receive telepathy. If you know who is calling before you answer the
ringing phone, you are probably a good receiver. If you think of a person and he or she calls you, you are most likely better at sending.
You can easily put your abilities to the test. Think of somebody and see whether he or she will contact you. Be patient. The other person may not be a good receiver, but he or she should contact you much earlier than would normally be expected. Or whenever the phone rings, try “feeling” who is contacting you. Don’t guess, but try to feel it with your mind. However, if neither of these works for you, that doesn’t mean that you have no ability of telepathy. As mentioned earlier, telepathy is most likely to kick in under circumstances of emergency.
The more time people spend together, the more likely they are to be able to link up to the other’s mind, especially when separated. There are two reasons for this. One is that they understand the other’s mind through ti me spent together; the other is that there is usually a strong desire to communicate. A mother will often sense that her child is in danger. This is due to the child’s eagerly wanting his or her mother, knowing that she is the person who would always want to be there for him or her, and the mother’s deep desire to protect her child from harm.

Ladies and gentlemen,
Welcome to our school. Now I would like to introduce our net-school to you.
Our net-school is very helpful in many ways. First it makes both teaching and Learning easier and more interesting. Students can get more knowledge in class. Whoever has a computer can have the lesson we give at home. Second it’s accessible to both t eachers and students. We can make good use of the Internet, sending e-mails, searching for any information we need etc. Third the net also helps improve our school management and meet the needs of modern education. Fourth, as a key school in our city, it sets a good example to the newly-built schools and may be of some help to them.
That’s all. Thank you!。
