13、The Building That Moves
Everyone knows that buildings don’t move. They can’t change the way they look. However, architect(建筑师) David Fisher wants to change that.
Fisher has an amazing idea. He wants to make __-story buildings that change shape. Each floor will move around slowly. The floors will move at different speeds. Because of this, the shape of the building is always changing. “These buildings will never look the same,” says Fisher.
His idea is an interesting one. However, Fisher doe sn’t stop there. He also wants the building to be “green”. The building will make its own energy. In most buildings, only the top floor has a roof(屋顶). In Fisher’s building, each floor will have its own roof. Each roof has solar panels(太阳能板). This means a lot more solar energy. Also, machines between each floor of the building will catch the wind. They will turn the wind into energy.
Fisher’s ideas sound impossible. However, that’s what people also said before humans traveled into space!

14、In most space-themed films, whenever Earth faces a disaster, the solution is always running away from the planet in spaceship. But the latest Chinese sci-fi movie, The Wandering Earth, offers a different idea.
The movie is based on a short story by Chinese sci-fi writer Liu Cixin. In the film, Earth is in danger of being destroyed by the dying sun. Half of our planet’s population is already dead and big cities such as Beijing and Shanghai are destroyed. To save the Earth, the whole world works together and comes up with a plan: Move the whole planet to a safe place. Instead of running away from Earth, this time we’re taking it with us.
Earth goes wherever humans go, because it’s our home. That makes The Wandering Earth different for Hollywood-style space films. And the makers of the film may have chosen the best time to tell its Chinese sci-fi story. The film was shown on Feb.5, the first day of Chinese New Year. Ti was a time when many people had just made the hard journey back to their hometowns. “What is Chinese sci-fi?” Guo Fan, the film’s director, said in an interview. “Chinese sci-fi can really express our culture and spirit. If we can’t do that, we’re just copying and telling the same American stories.”
I think this is a great movie. When facing a disaster, people from different parts of the world work together to save
out planet. I was actually moved to tears by it. It is a movie you can’t miss.

19、Dear Editor,
I’m writing to tell you about a discussion we’ve had ab out whether e-books are good or bad.
Some of the students prefer e-books because they think that using e-books is good for the environment and it can save a lot of paper. What’s more, e-books are also very nice and small. And they are easy to carry. People can search for information conveniently.
However, other students have different ideas. They think if they use e-books for a long time, it is bad for their eyes. While having classes, students can’t take notes directly in the e-books.
In my opinion, I love to read paper books. On the one hand, paper books are easier for us to see and memorize the knowledge. On the other hand, they are more comfortable to read and they won’t hurt our eyes.
Yours truly,
Li Ming。
