“Yes, I’ll be ready at nine in the morning. Goodbye, dear, and thanks again.” It had not been an easy telephone call for Mrs. Robson to make. Her daughter had been very kind, of course, and had immediately agreed to pick her up and drive her to the station, but Mrs. Robson hated to admit that she needed help. Since her husband died ten years ago, she had prided herself on her independence. She had continued to live in their little house, alone.
On this evening, however, she was standing at her living-room window, staring out at the SOLD notice in the small front garden. Her feelings were mixed. Of course, she was sad at the thought of leaving the house, as it was full of so many memories. But at the same time she was looking forward to spending her last years near the sea, back in the little seaside town where she had been born. With the money from the sale of the house, she had bought a little flat there. She turned from the living room window, and looked round at the room. One or two pieces of furniture remained, covered with sheets. All her pictures had been taken from the walls. There was a small fish tank, with two goldfish in it. When asked why, her husband used to say, “It’s nice to have something alive in the room.”Since he passed away, she had always kept some goldfish, had always had “something alive in the room”.
The next morning, as her train was pulling out of the station, Mrs. Robson called to her daughter, “Kate, you won’t forget to collect the goldfish, will you? The children will love them. It’s …”
“I know,” Kate interrupted gently. “It’s nice to have something alive in the room.” But in the little house, the two goldfish had stopped their circling. They were floating on the water, in the room with silent walls.

BEIJING (Xinhua) -China’s government is likely to cancel its “golden week”holiday system and make public holidays of more traditional festivals by 2009, according to a Chinese tourism expert .
“The week-long May Day holiday would be shortened to one day and the National Day

If you want to teach your children how to say sorry, you must be good at saying it yourself, especially to your own children. But how you say it can be quite tricky.
If you say to your children “I’m sorry I got angry with you, but …”, what follows that “but” can make t he apology ineffective: “I had a bad day” or “Y our noise was giving me a headache” leaves the person who has been injured feeling that he should be apologizing for his bad behavior.
Another method by which people appear to apologize without actually doing so is to say “I’m sorry you’re upset”; this suggests that you are somehow at fault for allowing yourself to get upset by what the other person has done.
Then there is the general, all-covering apology, which avoids the necessity of identifying a specific act that was particularly hurtful or offending, and which the person who is apologizing should promise never to do again. Saying “I’m useless as a parent” does not lead a person to any specific improvement.
These pseudo(假的) apologies are used by people who believe saying sorry shows weakness, Parents who wish to teach their children to apologize should see it as a sign of strength, and therefore not turn to these pseudo apologies.
But even when presented with examples of actual contrition (悔恨), children still need help to become aware of the complexities of saying sorry. A three-year-old might need help in understanding that other children feel pain just as he does, and that hitting a playmate over the head with a heavy toy requires an apology. A six-year-old might need reminding that spoiling
other children’s expectations can require an apology. A 12-year-old might need to be shown that carrying the biscuit tin away secretly without asking permission is acceptable, but that borrowing a parent’s clothes withou t permission is not.
67.If a mother adds “but” to an apology, __________.
A.she doesn’t feel that she should have apologized
B.she does not realize that the child has been hurt
C.the child may find the apology easier to accept
D.the child may feel that he owes her an apology
68.According to the author, saying “I’m sorry you’re upset” most probably means“__________”.
A.You have good reason to get upset
B. I’m aware that you’re upset,but I’m not to blame
C. I apologize for hurting your feelings
D.I’m at fault for making you upset
69.It is not advisable to use the general, all-covering apology because __________.
A.it gets one into the habit of making empty promises
B.it may make the other person feel guilty
C.it is unclear and ineffective
D.it is hurtful and offending
70.We learn from the last paragraph that in teaching children to say sorry __________.
A.the complexities involved should be ignored
B.their ages should be taken into account

You've probably heard of the butterfly effect that small changes in one place can lead to massive damage elsewhere. The Toy Story Ⅲ, Made-in-China, appearing on the Internet, TV screens and front pages of newspapers worldwide since August, was a live show. China' s reputation as "the world' s factory" was badly damaged this summer by a small, but powerful magnet(磁铁), and colorful paints on toys.
Mattel, the world's largest toy company in the US, on August 14 announced the biggest recall(召回)of toys in its history. Among the recalled products were 17.4 million toys that had a design problem. They contained a small, powerful magnet that could harm children if it was swallowed. Another 2.2 million toys were recalled because of impermissible levels of lead(铅) in their paint.
Although the designing problem has nothing to do with where the toys were made, the reports in the western media of the recall started to draw a horrible picture in many American parents' minds.
The toy recall issue followed close on the heels of recalls earlier in the year of Chinese-made
pet food and toothpaste and left consumers all over the world worried about buying anything labeled "Made-in-China".
The recall of the toys teaches Chinese companies that quality is vitally important. However, many of the complaints by western countries about Chinese goods reflect complicated feelings about the growing Chinese economy, culture differences and various political systems.
However, more than 100 US multinational companies from a range of industries, including Boeing and Microsoft, signed a letter to the US Congress on September 28, to reject the proposal against China." Imposing (强加) unfair barriers to trade in the name of product safety is not a solution." the companies wrote.
Toys are made for children to learn about the reality world and become more mature, however, the Chinese version of Toy Story helps lots of adults learn about responsibility, importance of quality, understanding, communications, and more.
72.The author mentions the butterfly effect at the beginning of the passage to ______.
A.define what the butterfly effect is
B.tell the readers what causes the butterfly effect
C.say that the toy effect is similar to the butterfly effect
D.compare the differences between the butterfly effect and the toy effect
73.Which of the following reasons is NOT mentioned to have caused the recall.'?
A.The small, powerful magnet on toys. B.The colorful paints on toys.
C.The pictures on the toys. D.The designing problem.
74.Boeing and Microsoft signed a letter to the US Congress, because______.
A.they think it' s unfair to impose barriers in the name of product safety
B.the Chinese companies have realized the importance of quality
C.the Toy Story has made some Chinese companies suffer great losses
D.the growing Chinese economy makes them afraid
75.Which of the following can be the best title of the passage?

参考作文
There are differences between high school China and that in the United States.
High school in China lasts three years, while in most US states four years. In China, students are in fixed classes and classrooms. Every day they study hard for around 10 hours and have a solid knowledge which is mainly acquired through their teachers in class. But in the United States, students don’t have fixed classes or classrooms and they sometimes go to their teachers’ offices for classes. They are frequently found in the library or surfing the Internet for more useful knowledge. They spend about 8.5 hours on study a day. They are lively and good at activities organized by themselves. However, in China, the students’extra curricular activities are mostly organized by schools and classes.。
