Ladies and Gentle men. I am honored to deliver a speech here about theimportance of working hard. Diligence is vital to our success in the society, asit sharpens the skill you needed to be success and it helps you to stand out inthe crowd. When I was in grade 10, I did not work hard, because I thought schoolwas easy and I didn't have to work hard to get a good grades. I thought I wasquite a genius indeed. However, when I entered grade 11, things start gettingmore and more difficult, and I started to acquire the habit of hard-woking bydoing my homework every night, and preview school materials before schoolstarts. Quite surprisingly, not only did I pass those difficult course, but alsogot a decent mark. Therefore, hard woking is the way to discover what yourpotentials are and use them to your benefit. I would continue to work diligentlyand hopefully to achieve greatness in the future.

Wang Leehom Speech @Berklee College of Music - YouTube
I don't know what to say. I didn't know that there would be a podium with a microphone. I thought I would just be singing songs. Not to downplay that, but ...

Oh, my goodness, what an honor. I am just so humbled and excited to be here looking out at all of you.

Being back here on campus is ... I feel so proud to have studied here. And ... that's 16 years ago, but ... I used to e to Symphony Hall every weekend and get those rush tickets, the student packs, and watch the Boston Symphony Orchestra perform as often as possible, often by myself.

And it was one of the highlights of my time here at Berklee, so being here on stage is really unreal. Walking around on campus today was a testament to how far Berklee's e in the last 16 years. It is beautiful, the campus, the facilities. I was walking by the MP&E, the studios, the equipment, the fitness center. We didn't have any of these stuffs. So I guess you guys have been doing a pretty good job. So thank you, and congratulations to that. What a time for the East and West in music, in pop culture.

All of you, music lovers, future musicians, future professional musicians on the stage, and like what Roger just said, it's so important for us to be ambassadors, to be that bridge, to be ambassadors of peace, and breaking down the walls, bringing people together. Last night ... this is
an issue that's so close in my heart, because last night in Los Angeles, my dear friend Jackie Chan was the first person ... first Chinese actor ever to win an Oscar, last night! I just want to thank all of you for being here, that's why we make music, is to connect with people.

I've never written a song without loving it myself. So for all of you musicians, always follow your heart and always do what you love. I've definitely ... you know ... never convince yourself that what other people are telling you to do is right if you don't feel like it's right in your heart. As a musician, it just doesn't work.

So work like a bull, I guess ... and always have fun. And all the accolades don't mean anything without your friends and your family to share with. So Thank You to them as well for being here together, and always.

What is a great book? There is no end to the making of books. Nor doesthere seem to be any end to th→←e making lists of great books. There has always bemore books than one could read. You can be happy at the fact that the number ofthat is relatively small.
However, today, people usually leave it in the library. According to thenational reading survey issued by The China Academy of Press and Publication, in20__, only 55% Chinese aged between18 and 70 book read books .That is to say, there are more than forty percent of the people seldom read in China.
It is a great challenge to literature. As a educated student, have youinsist on reading great books. In order to change the situation ,we must takeactions to read great books.
In Adler’s essay of What is A Great Book, he explain why we should readgreat books. I conclude it as follows.
First, great books are the most readable. They will not let you down ,if youread them well. The have more ideas per page than most books in the theirentirety. This is why you can read a great book over and over again and neverexhaust it contents.
Second ,great books are always contemporary,in contrast to the books wecalled contemporary, because they are currently popular ,last for a year ortow,or ten at most. You may probably can not recall the names of many earlierbest sellers, and you may probably would not be interest in reading them. But thegreat are never out modeled by the movement of thought or the shifting winds ofopinion .
Third ,great books are the most instructive. This follows the fact thatthey are original munications. They contain what cannot be found in otherbooks. Whether you ultimately agree or
disagree what they say. They are theprimary teachers of mankind. They have made basic contribution to human right.
Just giving you the reason is not enough, I will give you some methods torealize you reading dream.
Firstly, you can begin with a interesting novel. You will be attracted bythe figures, the plots .Than ,after reading a lot of books ,you may be get into ahabit of reading. So,you can contact with some plex books, such as philosophy, arts and so on. You will be shocked at the new world.
There are countless great books in our library, you must make greatadvantage of it. Of course ,it is a better choice to buy great books. Collectingbooks is a enjoyable thing,at least for me. So,reading great books. The newworld is ing.

Dozens of years ago, as the famous Negro Martin Luther King shouted to theAmerica, “I have a dream, I have a dream”, did he notice that his declaration offreedom would be the light to those who fights for people’s liberty? And, as wecan see, his dream made his legend, in other word dream makes people to begreat. Right now I just wonder in the future whether I could be somebody likeMartin Luther King who fought for people’s freedom or somebody like Bill Gateswho donated all his fortune to help poor people or I’ll be like most people tobe a nobody who gets a ordinary job and forms a family, living peacefully therest life. No matter what kind of above, the point is no matter who you are, nomatter where you are, please always have a dream. And this dream will make youget power to get progress; this dream will show you the direction like thebeacon to the ship on the sea in the night.
From ancient time to the recent years, we see too many famous successfulpeople like Confucius in China and Dr. King, as mentioned above, in the UnitedStates. Confucius made great influence to Chinese culture by his Confucianism, and Dr. King push the progress to the liberty of the blacks in the America. Theyboth made great contribution to their country, and how they made this? Part ofthe reason why, I think, is that they had dreams that care about the people inthe world. And more important, in my opinion of view, they throw their entirelives to make their dreams e true. That means they always keep learning, learning from books and learning from living lives. And this is what we need tolearn: have a dream in mind and keep pursuing on it.
Through this we see that a dream is something we can make it e true byour hard working, and this is what a dream is different from a reverie. See thismeans we need to take action, if we really have a good dream. We need study wellin the school, we need focus on the direction of our dream, and we need toremind ourselves from time to time: don’t forget our dreams. Maybe when othersare playing basketball, but you are at the desk to figure out the difficult mathexercises; maybe when others are watching TV series, but you are still on thebooks which you need in your position. All these will be worth when you getto the top of your dreaming mountain. As the saying says, “mountain’s high, butman makes the peak”。

So finally just let wish good luck to those who always havea dream in mind and keeps steps on it.

but now here's where the bias es in. our most important institutions, our schools and our workplaces, they are designed mostly for extroverts and for extroverts' need for lots of stimulation. and also we have this belief system right now that i call the new groupthink, which holds that all creativity and all productivity es from a very oddly gregarious place.
so if you picture the typical classroom nowadays: when i was going to school, we sat in rows. we sat in rows of desks like this, and we did most of our work pretty autonomously. but nowadays, your typical classroom has pods of desks -- four or five or six or seven kids all facing each other. and kids are working in countless group assignments. even in subjects like math and creative writing, which you think would depend on solo flights of thought, kids are now expected to act as mittee members. and for the kids who prefer to go off by themselves or just to work alone, those kids are seen as outliers often or, worse, as problem cases. and the vast majority of teachers reports believing that the ideal student is an extrovert as opposed to an introvert, even
though introverts actually get better grades and are more knowledgeable, according to research. (laughter)

The proverb “No pains, no gains” means that you have to make great effortsif you want to achieve success, for nothing but poverty can be obtained withouteffort.
In history, there have been many famous people of great achievements. Youmay claim that they are geniuses. But behind their successes, they have madegreat efforts in carrying out their tasks. Einstein said “Genius is one percentof inspiration and ninety-nine percent of perspiration.” He had been workinghard for many years before he finally worked out his theory of relativity.Thomas Edison experienced countless failures before he finally invented theelectric bulb. Wang Junxia was able to win the world championship of longdistance race only because she had many years of hard training. Therefore, diligence is the key to success. Doubtless hard work promises fruitful result.Everyone is awarded the right to work hard in order to reach his goal.Apparently, diligence is necessary to success. Happiness is nearly always areward for hard work.
On the other hand, idleness is believed to be the root of all evil. Anyonewho habitually likes idling but desires everything is daydreaming. We should beaware that if we dream away our precious time, when we wake up, it may be toolate for us to achieve anything. So, as college students, we should never stopworking hard so that we will remain successful in the future petitions.。
