Some people prefer to provide help and support directly to the local community who need it. Others prefer to give money to national and international charitable organizations. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.
Many people are faced with the dilemma in philanthropy that where their contributions will have the most impact. While some people have a preference for direct support to those in need, others believe that donating to non-profit charitable groups would be better.
On the one hand, most people prefer direct involvement with services provided directly to people in need, especially in their own communities, because they can immediately make a significant difference in someone’s life such as food for the hungry, shelter for the homeless, and doctors for sick children. By contrast, giving to national or international non-profits or institutions might not help the people who need the aid most. The money might end up paying for the non-profit's organizational marketing or costs of operations. In the worst case, the donation might end up contributing to corruption or bribery in countries that lack stable governments and effective relief distribution programs.
On the other hand, it is also believed that donating money to charitable groups with national or international focus is also essential, especially for those in developing countries. Indee d, a dollar contributed to international causes reaches much further when spent in developing countries. In some countries, 100 dollars can send a child to school for a whole year.Furthermore, some problems that charities confront are not easy to tackle at the local level. For example, some of the air pollution experienced in one area may be partly generated in another area and carried by prevailing winds, and to deal with such problems requires a regional or national approach.
In conclus ion, we are not arguing that one way of helping people is better than another. When it comes to giving, different preferences benefit certain groups of people, and donors should balance their contributions to support both local and international causes.
