How do you feel about onions? Some people think they smell bad. They make people “cry”. However, people in Switzerland celebrate (庆祝) onions. They have a festival just for onions. It is called the Zibelemärit, which means “Onion Market”.
As for the start of the festival, there is a story. In 1405, there was a big fire in Bern, Switzerland. The fire burned (燃烧) the city and many people died. Farmers from another city Freiburg came to help. The leaders of Bern were happy and wanted to thank them. So they set up a market in their city, where farmers from Freiburg could sell their onions every autumn. The Onion Market then started.
There are railways (铁路) in Bern. Farmers used the railways to transport (运输) their onions. The railways are still helpful today. Visitors can also take the train to get there.
During the Zibelemärit, people have a lot of interesting things to do. They can cat things made with onions. They can buy onion artworks. There are sculptures (雕塑) made of onions. People dress up like onions. There is also a confetti programme. At around 4: 00 pm, people begin to throw confetti at each other. It is little bits of colorful paper. People enjoy themselves so much. The old city of Bern turns into a sea of color.
The Onion Market is popular and it has a very long history. It is held on the fourth Monday in November. People look forward to celebrating it.

Having lost his eyesight in childhood, Ang Ziyu faced many difficulties when he went on with his studies. But can you imagine he will finish college in June this year?
Ang started at Minzu University of China in 2020, the first student with visual disability (视觉障碍) at the university. Surely, he had many worries: Would I be able to look after myself on campus? Could I learn difficult things using Braille (布莱尔盲文)? Would I be able to finish my studies in four years? “What scared me most was that I didn’t know what to expect. I faced many problems after starting college, but I always found a solution,” said Ang, “It took about a month for me to get used to the paths on campus (适应校园小路).”
Schoolmates helped him a lot, like reading textbooks and math questions to him. During exams, Ang answered the same test papers as his classmates, but in a special way. His teacher read the questions to Ang, then he would answer them using Braille, taking 1.5 times the usual time for the exam. Then he would read his answers to the teachers for grading.
Besides getting help, ① He has volunteered to teach visually impaired high school students in his hometown in Anhui Province many times and created a WeChat group to share learning materials and tips on how to prepare for college entrance exams (准备高考) with other visually impaired students.
Ang also enjoys traveling.
