When Mary and I arrived in a small town one cold winter night, we decided to spend the night at the local Holiday Inn. We wanted to spend a quiet weekend together before I left for a year in Argentina. I was to join the International Livestock.
Mary waited in the lobby (大堂) while I checked us in. To my surprise the desk clerk gave me a room that was already occupied—and by a couple who had left the door open and was probably sleeping. I praised the hotel personnel and started back to the lobby to get Mary when a man came by insisting he was the manager, although his unsuitable clothes suggested otherwise. He told me that the clerk was new and not familiar with the room arrangement. Then without further explanation, he escorted us to a room in the back of the motel.
After in rapid-fire style doorway introductions, the man left us to ourselves. Mary asked if I had noticed anything interesting about him. It¦s not likely that the rude desk clerk would be the manager, she said. Do you think we should change motels?
Before I could say anything, there was a knock at the door. It was the man again, this time with a cheap looking bottle of champagne (香槟). Suspecting foul play, I asked him why he suddenly appeared as though he owned the place. He replied: I guess I was acting a bit foolish out there. I wanted to apologize before I leave.
We left him with his cheap champagne, marveling at how clever people sometimes are. When we left for Argentina, all we remembered about that night was a mistaken room whose occupant wanted to be more accommodating to us.

Almost every culture in the world has its own tradition of fireworks, and they all tend to be joyful and serve a purpose.
The purpose might have to do with tradition, such as the case in South Africa where fireworks occur mostly on Guy Fawkes Day. Or they may be religious, as the case in Nicaragua where fireworks signify the start of religious celebrations. They can also celebrate new beginnings, such as Diwali in India.
People love fireworks displays. Research shows that for most people the reason they love fireworks has to do with both the feeling generated by the display and the sound. While more people see fireworks as beautiful or amazing moment, others also love the bang that comes with the show.
There have been many memorable fireworks displays in the past, including the most expensive firework display in the world, which took place in Kuwait for the 50th independence day and reportedly cost around $15 million.
And then there are some individuals who prefer fireworks only in a controlled setting, such as at a theme park or at a public display. The reason for that is either they don’t like the loud noises or they want to avoid any fire hazards.
