3Introduction
The DPU evaluation system, as shown in the following figure, provides designers with the needed
environment to evaluate the performance and implementation of PD70101/PD82000 chipset in an
integrated DPU RPF board. This document details the steps and instructions required to install and
operate this board.
Figure 1 • Block Diagram of PDX16DPU-13v12
3.1Functional Blocks
The following list describes the functional blocks of PDX16DPU-13v12 DPU RPF.
Surge Protection: Provides surge protection according to GR-1089, ITU K20 (Not Implemented on
DPU-DB).
Data Extractor Filter: Extracts the data from power filter, such filter can be G.Fast or VDSL (Not
Implemented on DPU-DB).
DC-DC block: Flyback DC-DC with +12 V output, the flyback is controlled by Microsemi PD70101 chip.
Signaling and Power Good: Power Good signal indication of CPE connected to channel and ready to
deliver power to channel flyback. Signaling is used to instruct the DPU that the CPE is working in one
of the these modes - PSE A.C. power, PSE battery power and dying gasp signal, which is used to
indicate that the CPE was disconnected from A.C. power.
PD82000: MCU, which is used for power management of the system, by monitoring the currents and
voltage and controlling the mode of operation of each flyback DC-DC. Provides I C communication
2
interface to the host in order to enable host reading power status of DPU as well as requesting
mode of operation of the flyback (PSE A.C. power/PSE battery power). The PD82000 software can be
updated through I C interface.
2
Current Sharing Block: Responsible to share the current equally between all working flybacks.
3.2Main Features
The following list gives the main features of PDX16DPU-13v12 DPU RPF.
High efficiency (about 86%) - power conversion from 39-60 V input voltage from CPE units to 12 V
output voltage
PD70101 and flyback power supply for generating +12 V from CPE units which deliver input DC-DC
voltage of 39-60 V
Equal current sharing circuitry on +12 V output, between all activate channels
Current sharing accuracy of 2% for all 16 ports working at full load
Up to 10.8 W for first port and 2.5 W for each additional port, which comes up to 48.3 W in total
PD82000 controller provides power management; enables low power mode (LPM) on request
I C interface communication to host, in order to enable control and indication of port's current and
2
power budget/status
I C address range, programmable through resistor diveder
2
Dying Gasp IRQ (high priority IRQ) to host, indicates last CPE was disconnected from DPU
Power Good IRQ (low priority IRQ) to host, indicates on every change upon Power Good indication
LEDs indication for Power Good on ports#1-16, MCU OK and low power mode on ports #1-16

4.2Input Connector
The DPU board receives 39-60 V of input voltage from CPE units through the 16 input two pins
connectors. The Isolated DC-DC flyback stage converts and regulates the output voltage to 12 V, which is applied to the DPU load output. All DPU connectors are placed on DPU bottom side. The following table lists the pin details for input connector pinout.Table 5 • Input Connector Pinout
