清迈大塔寺英文介绍
Wat Chedi Luang, located in the heart of Chiang Mai's old city, is one of the most revered and historically significant temples in Thailand. The name "Wat Chedi Luang" translates to "Temple of the Great Stupa," referring to its towering ancient chedi (pagoda) that once stood as the largest structure in the Lanna Kingdom.
Constructed in the 14th century during the reign of King Saen Muang Ma, the temple served as the royal chapel where the Emerald Buddha was enshrined before it was moved to Bangkok. The massive chedi, which reaches a height of approximately 80 meters, was damaged by an earthquake in the 16th century but still stands today as an emblematic symbol of Lanna architecture and Buddhist devotion.
The complex also houses the highly respected principal Buddha image known as Phra Chao Attarot, as well as a sacred Bodhi tree believed to be a descendant of the original tree under which the Lord Buddha attained enlightenment.
In addition to its religious significance, Wat Chedi Luang is a testament to the rich cultural heritage of Northern Thailand and attracts thousands of visitors each year who come to
admire its historical structures, participate in spiritual practices, or attend various cultural events held on the premises.
Overall, Wat Chedi Luang provides a window into the past and offers a profound connection to both the spiritual and historical fabric of Chiang Mai and the wider Lanna region. It remains an integral part of Thai history, religion, and identity.。
