When I felt we were reaching solid ground,I asked my husband to give me an"eternity (永恒)ring".It was not so much the ring I wanted:it was the reassurance(保证)I thought it would bring.

On the drive home,I didn't take my eyes off it.I forgot all about the eternity ring.I just couldn't believe how this old ring suddenly sparkled the way it had the day.Charlie gave it to me.I had taken it for granted these past years, but with a little polish it could still make my heart beat fast.
And that's the way it is with a marriage. You have to work at keeping it polished and new,or else the grime(污垢)of the passing years will hide the joy.I put my hand on the seat between us and spread my fingers Charlie covered my hand with his.I felt I was lucky to be able to see the sparkle in something old when I thought I needed something new.

The700or so residents of a fishing village and the rest of an island in the middle of Chesapeake Bay may turn out to be the first citizens of the continental United States to experience rising seas, concludes a report by oceanographer David M.Schulte and two fellow scientists with the U.S.Army Corps of Engineers.
The study involved Tangier Island and its nearby, smaller
islands, the last inhabited islands in Virginia waters in the Chesapeake Bay.The islands'landmass has decreased by66.75percent since1850.
Researchers looked at three situations of sea level rise(SLR):low, mid and high.In the mid-range SLR version, the islands'remaining landmass would largely be lost in50years and the town there would need to be abandoned.Under the situation of high SLR,much of the land would be lost within25years.
Many of the islanders are multiple-generation residents.Currently,about700people are Tangier residents, and they are largely fishermen.Captain John Smith,of Jamestown,is thought to be the first white man who set foot on the island400or so years ago.Carol Pruitt-Moore,who is a seventh generation Tangier islander, told an Associated Press reporter:"I think it'll be less than50 years. We are away from being washed away or being forced to leave."Two things are affecting the islands:climate change and the sinking of the bay.In the study, after analyzing maps and aerial photos of the islands,1850through2013,the study authors made a model to predict the lifespan of the islands. They also say that if other measures were built,costing$30million to$40million, perhaps Tangier could stay above water another50years.
"The Tangier Islands and the town are running out of time, and if no action is taken, the citizens of Tangier may become the first climate change refugees in the continental USA,"as the report concludes.

B.An enormous investment
would be needed.
C.T he sinking of the bay would be prevented.
D.Tangier would be a
model all over the world.
11.Where can we probably read the passage?

In general, the local food system is associated with organic agriculture because of its connection to smaller family farms that typically use these types of methods. The system means buying a food grown or made close to your home,or at least within your regional area. For fruits and vegetables, this means supporting a nearby farm that controlled every aspect of growing the crop.
When food is grown in your community,it will reach you
within a day or two of being picked, meaning peak flavor and nutritional value.Peaches will be sweeter, and meats, cheeses, breads and eggs will be fresher and more flavorful than anything found in the grocery store.
Local farmers'markets provide spaces for families and individuals to deal with one another. Neighbors get to know each other another along with their farmer, baker and cheese-maker.When you buy food from a local maker or grower, you re-establish a time-honored connection between the provider and the eater.Knowing your farmers means learning about the seasons, the weather and the wonder that is growing food.It is the opportunity to teach children that food comes not from a box but soil, water, sun and lots of hard work.
Shopping local brings together folks who care about truly nourishing people in the community;vendors and their customers enjoy relationships built on trust and understanding, relying on one another to keep their families healthy and thriving.
Local farmers and producers want you to ask questions and visit;they're passionate about providing the highest-quality product, wanting you to love it as much as they do.When you buy local, you are given the luxury of knowing your grower or maker, visiting them, asking how their product is made and seeing for yourself how your food comes to be.Supporting local food helps ensure there to be farms in your community tomorrow, preserving natural landscapes and providing abundant, wholesome and delicious food for future generations.
12.What is the main idea of the passage above?
A.Local food tastes better and is good for you.
B.Local food cost you more
but taste s better.
C.Local food is produced in a new way.
D.Local food helps
people make friends.
13.What does it mean if you buy the local food?
A.You have the healthiest food in the world.
B.You can learn to grow the crop s easily.
C.You give your assistance to the local farmers.
D.You can gain a good reputation in your community.
14.What are the benefits if you know the local farm er s?
A.Being honored by farmers and making more friends
B.Knowing more provider s and getting a bargain
C.E nlarging knowledge and having a time to teach kids
D.Going into nature
and growing food in boxes.
15.What will you learn if you contact l ocal producers?
A.They all get a good knowledge of the local customers.
B.They in fact live in a luxurious and comfortable life.
C.They think more of the health of future generations.

How to Give First Aid for a Stroke Victim
First aid is about more than bandaging a cut or wrapping a sprained ankle. It's any kind of emergency care given to someone injured or ill until emergency worker s arrive at the scene.

A.if one gets hurt in the left side of the head
B.i f a stroke occurs on the right side of the brain
C.Weakness in the arm is another cause for concern
D.When blood is cut off to the brain, the cells lack oxygen and can die

The park bench was deserted as I sat down to read beneath
an old willow tree. Not satisfied with the life,I was upset. At this time,a young boy approached me.He stood right before me with his head tilting(倾斜)down, saying with great excitement, "Look what I found!"
In his hand was a flower, and what a pitiful sight, with its petals(花瓣)all wilted. What a pitiful sight! That was because there was not enough rain or light.Wanting him to take his dead flower away and go off to play,I forced a small smile and then turned away. But instead of leaving,he sat next to my side and placed the flower near his nose and declared with certainty. He said,"It surely smells pretty and it's beautiful, too. That's why I picked it and it's for you."
The flower before me was dying or dead. But I knew I must take it,or he might never leave. So I reached for the flower and replied,"Just what I need."But instead of placing the flower in my hand,he held it in mid-air without reason. It was then that I noticed for the first time the boy was blind.
I heard my voice shake and my eyes were full of tears as I thanked him for picking the very best one.He smiled, and then left to play, unaware of the effect he had on my day.
I sat there and wondered how he managed to see a self-pitying woman beneath an old willow tree.Meanwhile,I felt confused about the reason why he tried to make me happy by showing the flower.Perhaps from his heart,he enjoyed the world with true sight.
