We’re always looking for well-written reviews of books, music, movies, television shows, websites, video games and other products. When writing a review, concentrate on exactly what you liked or didn’t like. Give examples of strengths and weaknesses, be descriptive and provide background information on an author, director, actor or musician, if possible. Find professional reviews in magazines or newspapers and see how reviewers deal with their topic, but be sure to express your own voice in your review.
Grammar Hint for Reviews: When describing a book, movie, album or anything else, use the present tense.
Book Reviews
Discuss an author’s technique, strengths and weaknesses instead of focusing on the plot. Does the story flow? Is there a strong sense of character and place? Did you stay up until dawn to finish it? Is it good reading for teenagers? What influence did it have on you and why? If you’ve read other books by the same author, discuss how this book compare s.
Movie Reviews
Think of the major Oscar categories and consider the performances, music, lighting and setting, etc. Do these work together? Did some hold up while others didn’t? If the movie is based on a book, discuss whether one is better than the other and why. If the movie is a remake, compare the film to its original.
Remember that a well-written movie review should discuss strengths and weaknesses. Some readers may not have seen a movie yet, so don’t give away an exciting scene or the ending!
College Reviews
Begin by providing an overview of the college, including location, size and a description of the campus and/or dorm life. Think about all aspects of your college visit. What academic, athletic and after-class programs are available? What are the students like? What makes the college different from others? Every school has strengths and weaknesses. Be objective. Consider what the school has to offer and who might enjoy or benefit the most from attending there.
21. When writing a review, you ________.
A.must express your own views and opinions
B.cannot refer to any previous review
C.must provide some information about the author
D.needn’t give any examples to support your views
22. Which aspects should be included in all three reviews?
A. Strengths and weaknesses.
B. Location and description.
C. Programs and scenes.
D. Plot and character.
23. Where can you probably find the passage?
A. In a personal diary.
B. In a popular magazine.
C. In a tourist guidebook.
D. In an official report.

Think about the different ways that people use wind. You can use it to fly a kite or to sail a boat. Wind is one of our cleanest and richest power sources, as well as one of the oldest. Evidence shows that windmills(风车) began to be used in ancient Iran back in the seventh century BC. They were first introduced to Europe during the 1100s, when armies returned from the Middle East with knowledge of using wind power.
For many centuries, people used windmills to grind(磨碎) wheat into flour or pump water from deep underground. When electricity was discovered in the late 1800s, people living in remote areas began to use them to produce electricity. This allowed them to have electric lights and radio. However, by the 1940s when electricity was available to people in almost all areas of the United States, windmills were rarely used.
During the 1970s, people started becoming con cerned about the pollution that is created when coal and gas are burned to produce electricity. People also realized that the supply of coal and gas would not last forever. Then, wind was rediscovered, though it means higher costs. Today, there is a global movement to supply more and more of our electricity through the use of wind.
24.From the text we know that windmills .
A. have rarely been used since electricity was discovered
B. have a history of more than 2,800 years
C. used to supply power to radio in remote areas
D. were invented by European armies
25.What was a new use for wind power in the late 19gh century?
A. Sailing a boat.
B. Grinding wheat into flour.
C. Producing electricity.
D. Pumping water from underground.
26.One of the reasons wind was rediscovered in the 1970s is that .
A. it is one of the oldest power sources
B. wind power is cleaner
C. it was cheaper to create energy from wind
D. the supply of coal and gas failed to meet needs
27.What would the author probably discuss in the paragraph that follows?
A. The advantages of wind power.
B. The global trend towards producing power from wind.
C. The worldwide movement to save energy.
D. The design of wind power plants.

Students and Technology in the Classroom
I love my Black berry—it’s my little connection to the large world that can go anywhere with me. I also love my laptop computer, as it holds all of my writing and thoughts. Despite this love of technology, I know that there are times when I need to move away from these devices(设备) and truly communicate with others.
On occasion, I teach a course called History Matters for a group of higher education managers. My goals for the class include a full discussion of historical themes and ideas. Because I want students to thoroughly study the material and exchange their ideas with each other in the classroom, I have a rule—no laptops, iPads, phones, etc. When students were told my rule in advance of the class, some of them were not happy.
Most students assume(假设) that my reasons for this rule include unpleasant experiences in the past with students misusing technology. There’s a bit of truth to that. Some students assume that I am anti-technology. There’s no truth in that all. I love technology and try to keep up with it so I can relate to my students.
The real reason why I ask students to leave technology at the door is that I think there are very few places in which we can have deep conversations and truly engage complex ideas. Interruptions by technology often break concentration and allow for too much dependence on outside information for ideas. I want students to dig deep within themselves for inspiration and ideas.
I want them to push each other to think differently and to make connections between the course material and the class discussion.
I’ve been teaching my history class in this way for many years and the evaluations reflect student satisfaction with the environment that I create. Students realize that with deep conversation and challenge, they learn at a level that helps them keep the course material beyond the classroom.
I’m not saying that I won’t ever change my mind about technology use in my history class, but until I hear a really good reason for the change, I’m sticking to my plan. A few hours of technology-free dialogue is just too sweet to give up.
28.Some of the students in the history class were unhappy with .
A. others’ misuse of technology
B. the course material
C. discussion topics
D. the author’s class regulations
29. The under lined word“engage”in Para. 4 probably means .
A. change
B. accept
C. explore
D. reject
30.According to the author, the use of technology in the classroom may .
A. encourage students to have in-depth conversations
B. keep students from doing independent thinking
C. help students to better understand complex themes
D. affect students’ concentration on course evaluation
31.It can be inferred from the last paragraph that the author .
A. will give up teaching history
B. is quite stubborn
C. will change his teaching plan soon
D. values technology-free dialogues in his class
D
Can dogs and cats live in perfect harmony in the same home? People who are thinking about adopting a dog as a friend for their cat are worried that they will fight. A recent research has found a new recipe(方法) for success. According to the study, if the cat is adopted before the dog, and if they are introduced when still young (less than 6 months for cats, a year for dogs), it is highly probable that the two pets will get along swimmingly. Two-thirds of the homes interviewed reported a positive relationship between their cat and dog.
However, it wasn’t all sweetness and light. There was a reported coldness between the cat and dog in 25% of the homes, while aggression and fighting were observed in 10% of the homes. One reason for this is probably that some of their body signals are just opposite. For example, when a cat turns its head away it signals aggression, while a dog doing the same signals submission(屈服).
In homes with cats and dogs living peacefully, researchers observed a surprising behavior. They are learning how to talk each other’s language. It is a surprise that cats can learn how to talk “Dog”, and dogs can learn how to talk “Cat”.
What’s intere sting is that both cats and dogs have appeared to develop their intelligence. They can learn to read each other’s body signals, suggesting that the two may have more in common than was previously suspected. Once familiar with each other’s presence and body language, cats and dogs can play together, greet each other nose to nose, and enjoy sleeping together on the sofa. They can easily share the same water bowl and in some cases groom(梳理) each other.
The significance of this research on cats and dogs may go beyond pets—to people who don’t get along, including neighbors, colleagues at work, and even world superpowers. If cats and dogs can learn to get along, surely people have a good chance.
32.The underlined word swimmingly in Paragraph 1 is closest in meaning to .
A. early
B. smoothly
C. quickly
D. painfully
33.Some cats and dogs may fight when .
A. they misunderstand each other’s signals
B. they look away from each other
C. they are cold to each other
D. they are introduced at an early age
34.What is found surprising about cats and dogs?
A. They eat and sleep together.
B. They know something from each other’s voices.
C. The y learn to speak each other’s language.
D. They observe each other’s behaviors.
35.What can we human beings learn from cats and dogs?
A. We should learn to live in harmony.
B. We should know more about animals.
C. We should learn more body languages.
D. We should live in peace with animals.

作文范文
Dear Carl,
I am writing to tell you something about the square dance in china. In the morning or after dinner, people, especially elderly women will gather in squares to dance to popular music. More and more young people are also joining in now.
There are many reasons behind its popularity. First of all, China has made great progress in its social and economical development in the past decades, and people have more time and energy to enjoy themselves. Besides, doing the square d ance is a good way for people to get fit.
However, because dancers play loud music and occupy lots of public places, they annoy many people. Maybe square dance need to make some changes.
Yours,
Li Hua。
