Ⅰ. Teaching Aims and Demands:
1. Language goals:
Key vocabulary:rainstorm, at the time of
Target language:—What were you doing when the rainstorm came ?
—I was reading in the library.
—What was he/ she doing when the rainstorm came ?
—He / She was waiting for the bus.
2. Ability goals: Train students’ listening and speaking skills. Use the target language to talk about past events.
3. Moral goals: Don’t feel nervous when you meet the difficulties.
Ⅱ. Teaching important points: Key vocabulary and Target language .
Ⅲ.Teaching difficult points:
Listen to the conversation and fill in the blanks.
Learn to talk about past events using the target language.
Ⅳ. Teaching procedures:
Step 1: Greeting and Revision.
1. Greet the class as usual.
2. Revision.
Show one picture we learned in Unit 4 on PPT.
Ask questions and answer the questions.
T: What’s the matter with the boy ?
Ss: He has too much homework to do.
And he doesn’t get enough sleep.
T: Why doesn’t he go to sleep earlier this evening?
He needs to have a good rest.
Step 2: Warming up.
Look at the picture. A girl is asking the boy a question.
“What are you doing ?”The boy answers, “I′m reading in the library.
Then look at other pictures. Practice the conversations in pairs.
Step 3: Lead-in. Now look at this picture. Ask students “Did you see it before?”“It’s a rainstorm. ” Then learn the new word.
Then ask students “Where were you at the time of the rainstorm ?”
Look at the pictures and talk about the question.
Step4: 1a. Look at the picture in 1a.
Where were the people at the time of the rainstorm ?
Match the statements with the people in the picture.
Ask a student to match them.
Step 5: Presentation.
What were you doing yesterday at the time of the rainstorm ?
Look at the pictures and lead students to talk about what the people were doing in the pictures.
Then ask students to practice the conversation in pairs using the learned pictures.
Step 6:Practice.
Look at the pictures and answer the questions by using “was/ were +doing”.
Step 7:1c pairwork.
Look at the picture in 1c in the book.
Talk about what the people in 1a were doing at the time of the rainstorm. Step 8:1b Listening
Listen to the TV report and circle the correct responses for the first time.
Ask a student to circle the correct responses.
Then listen to the TV report again and fill in the blanks in the sentences this time. Ask a student to fill in the blanks. Check the answers with the students.
Step 9:Report.
Look at the pictures and write what the people were doing at nine o’clock last Sunday morning.
Give students about two or three minutes to write the sentences.
Then ask two or three students to report what they wrote .
Step 10:Summary.
This class we’ve learned what the people were doing at the time of the rainstorm.
And we should pay more attention to the differences between the two tenses.
Step 11:Homework.
1. Remember the words and the phrasal verbs in this lesson.
2. Practice the conversations learned after class.
3. Do the exercises in the teaching text.
