Ⅰ. Natural Resources
Britainis rich in coal, iron, tin, copper, lead and silver
1.Water—abundant surface water: rivers, reservoirs in Welsh mountains, lakes inLake District. 38% requirements are from underground sources.
(3) Lead ore:containing silver has been worked since pre-Roman times, lies in limestone regions; today the only production is from fluorite and barites.
(4) Copper: inNorth Wales, the deposits are associated with ancient volcanic rocks
4.Other Resources
(1) Saline Deposits:brine-pumping of the thick salt seriesbenБайду номын сангаасathCheshire;
one salt mine continues operations and is adequate for centuries to come
(2) Useful Rocks:rich in clays, of great economic value are china clay in granite inCornwall;
formerly in the Cleveland Hills inYorkshireand now are exhausted;
The active areas are Scunthorpe inLincolnshireand mostly in Northamptonshire.
(2) Tin ore:has been worked more than 3000 years
(4) Nuclear Power Station:operated by Atomic Energy Authority, provided 10% of electricity.
3.Metal Ores
(1) Iron ore: the major domestic source, is the belt ofsedimentary deposits (carrying only 25%-35% iron) with self-fluxing prosperities
2.Fuels
(1) Coal:Britainhas some of great coalfields in the midlandvalleyofScotland,Lancashireand Yorkshire of England& South Wales. It accounted for 38% of primary energy consumption.
(1) Britain was one of the world’s most advanced manufacturing and trade nations. The pound sterling is the exchange currency for about one third of the world’s foreign trade.

Industrial Revolution (1750-1850)
