A Typical Day at My School
The shrill beeping of my alarm jolts me awake at 6 AM. I groan and slam the snooze button, desperate for a few more precious minutes of sleep. But my mom isn't having it - she barges into my room, throwing open the curtains. "Rise and shine, sleepyhead! Don't want to be late for school again."
I reluctantly drag myself out of my cozy cocoon of blankets and stumble bleary-eyed into the bathroom. A quick shower does the trick to wake me up. Soon I'm dressed in my school uniform - a white shirt, navy blue pants, and a striped tie. So basic but so uncomfortable!
Downstairs, the amazing smells of mom's cooking fill the air. Pancakes, eggs, sausages - she goes all out for my breakfast. I inhale it gratefully while reviewing my homework one last time before heading out the door.
The walk to school isn't too far, about 15 minutes. I stroll along listening to music on my phone, earbuds firmly in place to
block out the noise. Passing by shops and homes, I see familiar neighborhood faces also making their morning commute.
I arrive at the large iron gates of Lakeside Middle School right as the first bell rings at 7:30 AM. Students in navy and white uniforms swarm the courtyard, greeting friends and dragging feet towards the main building. I spot my best friend Jacob and we fist bump, comparing answers for the math homework due first period.
The hallways are a chaotic sea of bodies between classes. I skillfully weave through the crowds, deftly avoiding being trampled. My locker is in the 8th grade wing, conveniently located near most of my classes. I grab the books I need and hurry to homeroom.
First period is algebra, probably my worst subject. I struggle to stay awake as Mr. Matthews drones on about quadratic formulas. I'll definitely need to get Jacob to retake me through this later. The morning races by with language arts, biology, and history before the bell rings for lunch at 11:15.
Lunchtime is a welcome break - Jacob and I buy greasy slices of pizza and cokes from the cafeteria. We head outside to our favorite weathered picnic table overlooking the soccer field. While slurping down our lukewarm pizza, we discuss the latest
promos for World of Warcraft and make plans for an epic gaming session this weekend.
The loud ringing of the bell startles us, forcing us to hurriedly toss our trash and racebackthrough the double doors. I've got gym class next with Coach Wilkins. We suit up in the locker room before heading into the gym.
Coach has us split into teams for a heated dodgeball tournament. I'm decent at best, managing to stay in for a respectable amount of time before an errant throw knocks me out. The thick stench of sweat permeates the air as we rotate through other activities like laps and push-ups.
My shirt is practically drenched and I'm so relieved when the final bell rings at 2:35 PM, officially releasing us from prison. Jacob and I grab our stuff and are amongst the first to spill outside. Shouts and laughter echo across the parking lot as kids reunite with friends.
Mom is running late today, so I take the city bus home. I board the overcrowded vehicle, sinking into an aisle seat. The loud chatter makes it hard to focus on my homework, so I pull out my Switch to sneak in a few rounds of Mario Kart instead.
I hop off at my stop, greeted by the mouthwatering smells of dinner cooking. Mom's beef stew with fresh baked bread is absolute heaven after a long day. I eagerly devour two big bowls before retreating to my room for homework.
Algebra is first up - I spend what feels like an eternity trying to decipher the formulas and rules. Once that's done, I zip through assignments for the rest of my classes. By 7 PM, I'm completely drained.
Lucky for me, it's my designated gaming night! After quickly showering off the day's grime, I power up my PC and headset. For the next few blissful hours, I'm transported to the epic realms of Azeroth along with my digital companions.
My eyes are starting to burn by 10 PM but I have just enough energy for one final boss battle before calling it a night. I crawl into bed, setting my alarm for another grueling day tomorrow. But as exhausting as middle school can be, I appreciate having an environment to see my friends and be challenged academically. I drift off to sleep, waiting for the cycle to reset once again.

A Typical Day at My Middle School
The shrill sound of my alarm clock jolts me awake at 6:30 am.
I rub my eyes, still feeling drowsy from staying up too late watching Youtube videos last night. But I know I have to get moving - school awaits!
After rushing through my morning routine of showering, getting dressed, and gobbling down a quick breakfast, I head out the door by 7:15. The walk to school takes about 15 minutes. I meet up with my best friend Jake along the way and we chat about the math test we have later that morning as we trudge along.
The hallways are already buzzing with activity as we arrive at 7:30. I stop by my locker to grab my books for my first few classes - math, English, and history. The bell rings at 7:45 prompting a mad dash as students scramble to their homerooms.
Math class kicks off the day, much to my dislike. I've never been a huge fan of all those numbers, formulas, and equations. Still, I try my best to follow along as Mrs. Thompson lectures about quadratic equations. I'll definitely need to study those some more before the test.
After that mind-numbing 90 minutes, it's a relief when the bell rings for second period English. Ms. Davies is my favorite
teacher - she has such a knacky way of making even dense literature seem interesting and relevant. Today we're continuing our discussion of Lord of the Flies, analyzing the symbolism and motifs within the classic novel. I make sure to jot down plenty of notes and themes to potentially use for our upcoming essays.
Third period is UShitory with Mr. Franklin. While the subject matter itself is fascinating, covering everything from the Revolutionary War to the Civil Rights Movement, his lecturing style is just so dry that I find my mind wandering at times. I'll need to go over those notes later too.
Finally, the bell rings for lunch at 11:30 - the highlight of any kid's day! I meet up with my group of friends and we head over to the cafeteria. The food isn't exactly gourmet cuisine, but beggars can't be choosers. Today's slop of the day? What looks like a poorly reconstructed attempt at beef tacos. It's edible, if not enjoyable.
The lunch room is a raucous scene, filled with the sounds of clanking trays, loud conversations, an occasional food fight breaking out (to the chagrin of the poor custodians). I catch up with my friends about weekend happenings, gossip around school, and the latest chase in Fortnite. All too soon, the bell rings signaling the end of our 30 minute reprieve of freedom.
Fourth period is when things get really tedious - biology with Mr. Hartman. He seems to take perverse pleasure in lecturing us ad nauseum about the intricacies of cells, bacteria, anatomy, and other titles that make my eyes glaze over. I'm definitely going to need to meet with my tutor to go over this stuff before midterms.
My electives for fifth and sixth period are a nice respite from the monotony of core academics. For fifth period, I have art class. While I'm no Picasso, I've always enjoyed having an outlet for creativity and self-expression through different media like painting, sketching, and sculpting. Today we're working on charcoal self-portraits, which I'm having fun with despite getting black dust smeared all over myself.
Rounding out the day in sixth period is P.E. Finally, a chance to release some energy and endorphins after sitting through endless lectures! Unfortunately, my athleticism is about as refined as a peg-legged pirate. But I still relish the opportunity to get some physical activity, even if I do whiff miserably on my attempts to spike a volleyball or make a lay-up.
At 2:45, the bell mercifully rings, signaling the end of yet another gruelingly long school day. Most of my brain cells have been stretched to their limit after endless lectures, tests, quizzes,
and assignments. I stop by my locker one final time to switch out books before the blissful journey home.
If the morning walk was a somber death march, the
after-school journey is light and energetic, filled with rambunctious socializing and thrills of being done for the day. Jake and I excitedly discuss our plans for this weekend - movies, video games, basically any indulgence away from academic life. We even make a pre-emptive pact to not study at all until Sunday night. Ah, the blissful naïveté of childhood!
Finally, I arrive home around 3:15, feeling like an inmate who has been pardoned. I breathe a big sigh of relief as I kick off my shoes and plop down on the couch. A few hours of well-earned leisure time awaits before the nightly grind of homework. But for now, I revel in the precious remaining pockets of freedom before this cycle inevitably repeats once again tomorrow.

A Day at My School
Buzz! My alarm clock jolts me awake at 6:30am. I groan and hit the snooze button, trying to catch a few more precious minutes of sleep. But it's no use - I know I have to get ready for another day at Green Valley Middle School.
I stumble out of bed and into the bathroom to splash some cold water on my face. As I'm brushing my teeth, I glance at myself in the mirror. My messy hair is sticking out in all directions and my eyes are half-closed from sleepiness. Not the best look, but it'll have to do for now.
After getting dressed in my standard uniform of khaki pants and a white polo shirt, I head downstairs to the kitchen. Mom's already there making breakfast.
"Morning, sleepyhead!" she teases me with a smile. The wonderful smells of bacon, eggs, and fresh coffee fill the air.
I mumble a greeting through a big yawn as I plop down at the table. Mom sets a plate piled high with food in front of me. I dig in hungrily - school days are long and I know I'll need my energy.
With a full belly, I grab my backpack stuffed with books, binders, and my laptop, and head out the door. The morning air is cool and crisp as I begin the short walk to school. Some of my friends are also making their way there, so I wave and chat with them along the way.
We arrive at the large brick building of Green Valley Middle just as the first bell rings at 7:50am. Students are streaming in
through the front doors from all directions. I follow the flow of foot traffic inside and make my way to my locker to switch out my books for first period.
The hallways are total chaos, filled with the sounds of slamming locker doors, ringing phones, and hundreds of adolescent voices all talking over each other. I have to sidestep around clumps of dawdling students to get where I'm going. Locating my English classroom through the mayhem, I slip inside just before the tardy bell.
Ms. Roberts, my English teacher, is already at the front of the room with her stack of papers and her no-nonsense attitude. "Okay, class, let's settle down," she announces in her trademark stern voice. "Take out your books and turn to page 184. We're going to discuss the chapter you should have read last night..."
I'll spare you the details of English class, but let's just say it's not my favorite. By the time the bell rings to switch periods, my brain feels like mush from dissecting prose and diagramming sentences.
Thankfully, my next class is much more exciting - Science with Mr. Lopez. He's pretty much the coolest teacher, with awesome experiments and hands-on projects. Today, we're learning about chemical reactions by mixing together
householdchemicals to see what crazy results we get. There are a few small explosions and puffs of colored smoke, which has the whole class cracking up.
After Science is Math class, which is...well, Math class. No matter how the teacher tries to make it interesting, I just can't seem to get excited about algebra and geometry. I struggle through it, taking notes and trying my best not to doze off from sheer boredom.
Finally, the lunch bell rings at 11:30am! I couldn't be more ready for a break. I meet up with my group of friends and we head over to the noisy cafeteria, grabbing trays of food on the way.
"Did you see Johnson's new haircut?" my friend Sam snickers as we find an empty table. "Looks like he got attacked by a lawnmower!"
We all have a good laugh at Johnson's unfortunate new 'do as we dig into our lukewarm chicken nuggets and rubbery pizza. Lunchroom food has definitely seen better days, but we're so hungry we'd probably eat just about anything.
After downing a few chocolate chip cookies for dessert, the conversation turns to our plans for this weekend. "My parents
are going out of town, so you guys should all come over on Saturday night," Zach tells us. "We can order a bunch of pizzas and have a video game tournament!"
"Awesome, count me in!" I reply through a mouthful of chips.
Before we know it, the lunch monitors are yelling at us to dump our trays and clear out for the next group of students. It's back to class time again.
The rest of the day is a blur of Social Studies, Spanish, P.E., and finally art class to end the day. By the time the final bell rings at 3:10pm, I'm completely drained. I can't wait to get home, kick off my shoes, and take a well-deserved nap!
My friends and I part ways, shouting out plans to meet up over the weekend. The walk home seems to take forever after being cooped up inside all day. I can't resist stopping at Mr. Mason's lawn to pluck out a handful of velvety soft grass and toss it into the air, letting the green blades fall around me. It's funny how something so simple can feel so satisfying.
At last, I'm home sweet home! I grab a snack from the kitchen and flop down on the couch to relax for a bit. Later, I'll
have to start my homework, but for now, I can just zen out and leave the world of Green Valley Middle School behind me.
Don't get me wrong, there are lots of good things about my school - the awesome teachers, seeing my friends every day, and learning new and interesting subjects. But at the end of the day, I'm just a regular kid. And after being stuck at a desk for hours on end, I need some serious downtime.
I smile to myself as I turn on the TV, thinking about how after
a long day at school, finally being home feels like a little slice of heaven. Sure, I'll have to go back tomorrow and do it all over again. But for now, I can simply enjoy being a kid on summer break...in my dreams!。
