Have you ever noticed that the more you have the more you want? Let’s face it. Thinking our life is good enough doesn’t come naturally to many people. When we have high expectations of everything in life we will run into disappointment. Only when we are aware that needs are different from desires can we live with satisfaction. Here are a few ideas to help you be happier with what you have and who you are.
Focus on what you are thankful for. Most people want things to be better than they are, or when things are going well, we forget to appreciate what we have. Learn to reflect on how much better things are than they could be. Focus on what you are thankful for. Write down 5 things you are grateful for right now.
When we hold onto regrets from decisions we have made, it can really poison our well-being. Many people regret something they can no longer change, which ends up holding them back from moving forward in a more positive manner. What happened in the past is done and gone, so work to stay present and be mindful of the current moment to find more joy and fulfillment. When we use other people as the measuring stick for our personal success and quality of life we are likely to be less satisfied. Social comparisons can provide useful information when we try to learn from others, but they also hold our perspective in a discontented position. Compare yourself less with others so you can be satisfied more.
When you are focused on your big ambitions and future goals you might elide the daily pleasures that surround you. Learn to slow down and absorb the wonder and beauty around you. Stay pre sent and focus on the task you’re undertaking at the moment. Don’t let the life pass you by because you’re always on the go and distracted by ambition.
Practice looking at life through the lens of contentment and it will become more natural.

The Netherlands on Monday introduced its first-ever “intelligent bicycl e〞 , fitted with electronic devices to help bring down the high accident rate among elderly cyclists in the bicycle-mad country.
Developed for the government by the Netherlands Organization for Applied Scientific Research 〔TNO〕, the intelligent bicycle, runs on
electricity.A commercial-available bicycle is expected to
be on the market in the next two years and should sell for
between 1, 700 to 3, 200 euros per bicycle.
The devices on the bike are linked through an onboard
computer with a vibrating 〔震动的〕 warning system fitted in the bicycle's saddle and handlebars to warn cyclists of the coming danger.
The saddle vibrates when other cyclists approach from behind, while, the handlebars do the same when barriers appear ahead.
" Accidents often happen when cyclists look behind them or get a fright when they are passed at high speed," said Maurice Kwakkernaat, one of TNO's research scientists involved in the project."The onboard system technology has already been at work in the car industry," he said.
'' More and more elderly people are using a bicycle, not only for short distances, but also
for longer distances," Dutch Environment and Infrastructure Minister Melanie Schultz van Haegen told AFP."This type of bicycle is truly needed in the Netherlands because it will help us bring down the number of elderly people who are injured every year and allow them to continue to enjoy cycling," she said.
In the Netherlands, bicycles outnumber the population of 17 million by at least one million and there are some 25,000 km of bicycle path in the country. Those statistics are set to grow as more and more people take to two-wheeled transport, leading to an increased risk of injury.
Last year, 184 cyclists died in the country, of which 124, or 67% , were older than 65, according to the Central Statistics Office. The year before, 200 cyclists died, the majority of victims also being elderly.
The current model weighs 25 kilograms but researchers are working on making the onboard systems smaller.

To most people, noise pollution is a jet flying over their head. For one Spanish woman, it is a neighbor playing the piano. The woman has taken her neighbor to court. Now she wants to send her neighbor to prison for over seven years on the charges of psychological damage
and noise pollution.
In a country known for its noisiness, the case has raised eyebrows. Neighbors often complain about street noise in Spain, but people seeking prison time for someone practicing the piano is unheard of. At the trial, Sonia Bosom says she has been suffering noise pollution up to now due to the practice sessions of Laia Martin, who lives below her. Martin, 27, didn’t admit that she played at home that often, saying she took regular classes in other towns and mostly practiced at home on the weekends.
On the first day of the trial, the newspaper reported that Bosom told the court she now hated pianos so much that she couldn’t even stand seeing them in a film.
Bosom says years of hearing constant playing has caused her “psychological inju ry〞. Medical reports show she has suffered from a variety of problems, including insomnia (失眠), anxiety, and panic attacks.
She says tests by local authorities have found that the sound levels made by the piano are up to 10 decibels (分贝) higher than the limit. City authorities have asked the family several times to either stop the piano playing or soundproof (隔音) the room. The family told the court they carried out soundproofing work twice but the complaints continued. The court hasn’t made a final decisio n. A spokeswoman says the trial will end before May.
9.Bosom wants to send Martin to prison because _______.

A.She stopped playing the piano.
B.She soundproofed the room.

● "New labels to show calories
The US government ruled that all food establishments(场所) should put the calorie information of their foods on their menus. Within a year chain restaurants, like fast food KFC, will have to say clearly on their menus how many calories their fried chicken wings, fries, and other items contain. Amusement parks, movie theaters and supermarkets will also have to follow the rules. The move is designed to fight against the problem of obesity(肥胖) in the US.
● Antibiotics leading to world problem
The entire world is facing this problem; antibiotic resistance. And the resistance will lead to the deaths of 10 million people across the world by 2025, predicted a new report released by the UK government. Antibiotics are used to destroy or slow the growth of harmful bacteria in our bodies. But overuse and misuse of them can encourage bacteria to develop new ways of overcoming antibiotics, which makes it increasingly difficult for humans to fight diseases.

At age 14, 15 and 16, the way we looked was the most important thing in the world to us. My friends and I wanted nothing less than perfection.
In high school, we joined the gymnastics team, and our 21 became even more important to us. We had no fat, only muscle. On the weekends, we would go to the beach, 22 of our flat stomachs.
One summer day, all my friends were at my house 23. At one point, I was running back to the pool. I 24 on a bee, and while it was dying under my foot, it stung (蛰) me. I instantly started to feel 25. That night, I began to run a high fever and my leg and foot were red, hot and swollen. I couldn’t walk. I could barely 26.
When my foot started to go numb, everyone became more 27. My foot was not getting enough blood. I had to go to the 28, and my leg hurt as if it were badly broken. I couldn’t move. All I could do was think about how soft my middle was becoming. That 29 me more than any concern over my leg.
That would all 30 when I heard the doctors mention possibly cutting off my foot. It was still not getting the 31 supply it needed. The doctors would have to speed up their treatment. Never before did I have such great 32 for my foot. And walking seemed like a 33 from the gods. Less and less would I want to hear my friends talk about 34 and who was wearing what. More and more I expected visits from other kids in the hospital, who were quickly becoming my friends.
One girl came to visit me 35. Every time she came, she brought flowers. She was recovering from cancer and felt she should come back and 36 the other patients.
She still had no hair, and she was swollen from medications she had been taking. I would not have given this girl a second 37 before. I now loved every inch of her and looked forward to her 38.
Finally, I was improving and soon I went home. My leg was still swollen, 39 I was walking, and I had my foot! When I would go back to the hospital, I often saw my friend. She was still visiting people and 40 good cheer. I thought if even there was an angel on this earth, it had to be her.

The news which the English Entrance Examination will be reformed has caused a big “earthquake〞 in our country. Many people, including students, is for it. But there are also some people are against it. Then, is it better to do so or not? Personal, I think the reform has both advantages and disadvantage. On the one hand, it can reduce students’learningburden and enables English to return back to its true function. On the other hand, it will cause students to spend less time studying English and attachmore importance to English. If so, students will not have a good knowledge of English. What’s more, if students don’t have so a good ability, they will not be able to broaden our horizon s and meet the future challenges.
