Unit1写作课教案
Writing a Letter of Advice
一、Teaching Objectives:
1. Students will be able to understand the purpose and format of a letter of advice.
2. Students will be able to write a wellstructured and coherent letter of advice.
3. Students will be able to use appropriate vocabulary and grammar structures for formal writing.
4. Students will be able to express their opinions and provide guidance in a clear and effective manner.
二、Key Points and Difficulties:
1. The key point of this lesson is to teach students how to write a letter of advice, which is a formal type of writing that provides guidance or remendations to someone in need. This can be challenging for some students who are not familiar with the conventions of formal writing.
2. The difficulty lies in ensuring that students understand the purpose and format of a letter of advice, as well as being able to use appropriate language and structure in a professional setting. It also requires them to think critically and provide thoughtful and constructive advice.
三、Teaching Procedures:
1.Introduction (5 minutes)
Begin the class by introducing the topic of writing a letter of advice. Ask students if they have ever received such a letter or if they have ever written one themselves. Discuss the importance of giving and receiving good advice in various situations.
2.Understanding the Purpose and Format (10 minutes)
Introduce the purpose of a letter of advice to provide guidance or remendations to someone in need. Ask the students to read the letter of advice in the textbook Explain the basic format of a letter of advice, including the salutation, body, closing, and signature.
3.Brainstorming and Organizing Ideas (15 minutes)
Give students a scenario or problem to brainstorm ideas for a letter of advice. For example, if someone is applying for a scholarship, they might need to write a letter of remendation. Encourage students to think about what kind of advice they would give and how they would structure their letter accordingly.
4.Writing the Letter (20 minutes)
Provide students with a sample letter of advice template to guide them in writing their own letter. Walk them through each section of the letter, explaining the purpose and function of each part. Encourage them to use appropriate vocabulary and grammar
structures for formal writing. Allow time for students to revise their letters based on feedback from the teacher or peers.
5.Sharing and Feedback (10 minutes)
Have students share their letters with the class and discuss any mon mistakes or areas for improvement. Offer feedback on their writing skills, focusing on specific areas such as grammar, vocabulary, and organization. Encourage students to practice writing more letters of advice in the future to improve their skills further.
6.Homework (Assignment)
Ask students to write at least two more letters of advice, one addressing a hypothetical situation and the other providing feedback on another student's letter of advice. Encourage them to use the feedback they received during class to improve their writing further. Review their assignments at the next class meeting for feedback and discussion.
Homework Assignment:
Write two letters of advice, one addressing a hypothetical situation (e.g. remending a college or job) and the other providing feedback on another student's letter of advice (e.g. evaluating their writing skills). Use appropriate vocabulary, grammar structures, and organization in your letters, and ensure that they are wellstructured and coherent.。
