Luke Dollar is a scientist. He has spent many years in Madagascar studying lemurs(狐猴). Here is an interview with him.
Reporter: What were you like as a kid?
Luke: As a kid, I was an explorer(探险者). I lived with my grandparents on a farm in Alabama.
I spent a lot of time outdoors. It was 6 to 16 years old I was an actor. My mom asked
me to audition(试演)for a show in Birmi ngham. I asked my mom to buy me some video games and she agreed, so I went for it and finally got the part. Later, I became a professional actor. For many years I went all over the US performing on different stages.
Reporter: How did you start to study lemurs?
Luke: When I was on the farm, I was really a wild child and came to love wild things. I did a lot of photography(摄影)in high school. I became a photographer and did photography for the local paper. Then I became a student of Duke University. At Duke University there is a center—Lemur Center. I got a job there as a work-study student and met lemurs there for the first time. In 1994, I had a chance to go to Madagascar and decided to study lemurs there.

The Recycled Orchestra is a musical group. It’s made up of 20 tee ns from Paraguay, a country in South America. They live in a s mall, poor village called Cateura, and it’s just outside Paraguay’s capital. Their instruments are made from garbage.
The teens play famous pieces of music by Mozart and Beethoven. And they also play rock music by the Beatle and other groups.
“The world sends us garbage. We send back music,” said Favio Chavez. He is a music teacher and he started the Recycled Orchestra.
Cateura is an area built on garbage in Paraguay. Nearly half the children in the area don’t finish school because their parents need them to work. To keep the children out trouble, Chavez started a music school six years ago. But there were more children than instruments and there wa s no money to buy new instruments.
Nicolas Gomez, a carpenter(木匠), came to help. The local man came up with an idea. He made a violin from garbage. “I never imagined myself making an instrument like this,” he said. Soon, he made instruments for whole orchestra by using garbage.
The young musicians have got attention outside Paraguay. They have given concerts in Brazil, Colombia and Panama. They plan to perform i n the US at the Musical Instrument Museum in Phoenix, Arizona.
Thirteen-year-old Ada Rios plays the violin in the Recycled Orchestra. She said music had changed her life. “When I listen to the sound of the violin, I feel extremely excited,” she sa id. “it’s a great feeling that I don’t know how to explain.”
