Meat inspection legend -- s. 4 4. The meat inspection legend shall be a national trade-mark, and the exclusive property in and, subject to this Act, the right to the use of that trade-mark is hereby declared to be vested in Her Majesty in right of Canada. Authorized use -- s. 5 5. No person shall, unless authorized by the regulations, (a) apply or use the meat inspection legend; or (b) advertise or sell or have in his possession for any such purpose anything to which the meat inspection legend is applied or in connection with which the meat inspection legend is used. Use of similar legend prohibited -- s. 6 6. No person shall (a) apply or use any legend, word, mark, symbol or design or any combination thereof that so closely resembles the meat inspection legend as to be likely to be mistaken for it; or (b) advertise or sell or have in his possession for any such purpose anything to which there is applied or in connection with which there is used any legend, word, mark, symbol or design or any combination thereof that so closely resembles the meat inspection legend as to be likely to be mistaken for it.

An Act respecting the import and export of and interprovincial trade in meat products, the registration of establishments, the inspection of animals and meat products in registered establishments and the standards for those establishments and for animals slaughtered and meat products prepared in those establishments
Meat Inspection Legend Regulations
(3) The meat inspection legend, without the registration number, may be placed on the label of a meat product where the label is applied to (a) a hermetically sealed container that is labelled as prescribed in paragraph 60(d); (b) a casing or bag closed by a metal clip, if the registration number is legibly engraved on the metal clip and is visible when the clip is closed; or (c) a cardboard container, a corrugated fibreboard container, a bulk container or a plastic container, if the registration number is clearly marked elsewhere on the principal display panel.
Regulations - Registered Establishment
28. (1) It is a requirement for the registration of an establishment pursuant to subsection 27(3) that the establishment (a) be situated on land that (i) is free of debris and refuse, (ii) provides or permits good drainage, and (iii) is not in such proximity to any source of pollution or any place that harbours insects, rodents or other vermin or any similar thing that meat products in the establishment are likely to be contaminated; (b) be of sound construction and in good repair; (c) be constructed of material that is suitable for the purpose for which it is to be used, is durable and free of any noxious constituent and is registered by the Director; (d) be separate from and have no direct access to living quarters or any other area in which activities are carried out that are incompatible with the handling of a meat product;
REGISTERED ESTABLISHMENT -- s. 3
Registered establishment -- s. 3(1) 3. (1) It shall be a condition of the registration and operation of an establishment as a registered establishment that the establishment and all animals and meat products in it are subject to this Act and the regulations. Operator's licence -- s. 3(2) (2) No person shall operate a registered establishment unless that person has obtained a licence therefor in accordance with the regulations.

Registration of Establishments -- ss. 27 to 28 27. (1) An application for the registration of an establishment for one or more of the following activities shall be made to the Agency's Executive Director, Operations, for the area in which the establishment is or is to be located, in a form approved by the Director: (a) the slaughter of food animals; (b) the processing of meat products;……………… (2) An application referred to in subsection (1) shall have annexed thereto detailed plans and specifications of the establishment. (3) If an establishment in respect of which an application referred to in subsection (1) has been made complies with the requirements prescribed by section 28, the Director shall register the establishment in the Register of Establishments of the Agency and shall assign it a registration number.

29. (1) No person may operate a registered establishment without a licence issued under this section. (2) An application for a licence to operate a registered establishment or for the renewal or modification of a licence shall (a) be made to the President in a form acceptable to the President; and (b) subject to subsection (2.1), be accompanied by the following information attached to the application or sent electronically: (i) a sanitation program for the registered establishment, (ii) a pre-operational sanitation program for the registered establishment, (iii) a pest control program for the registered establishment, (iv) a description of the equipment and material for operating the registered establishment, and
