•Competent in organizational design, restructuring issues, organizational effectiveness •Able to provide good leadership of change
•Demonstrated ability to build and motivate successful teams
•Established successful relationship with business management. Remained focused on how the core functions (HR and/or Finance) can support the business
•Deep understanding of the implementation of IT tools to support the organization, e.g. for several years involved in the deployment of the PeopleSoft HRMS standard package in
HP Europe
•Strong coaching skill
•Pragmatic approach to most issues, open minded and focusing on making things work. Experience
VP HR, Professional Systems Group (PSG), Asia Pacific & Japan (02 – current)
Moved into the role in May 02 when the merger between HP and Compaq were approved. AP&J is the fastest growing region for HP with the investments in China creating the largest demand on HR. Quarterly revenue has reached more than $1B.
During the last 2 year I have been involved in the following:
•Re-alignment of the organizations. Focus on how to optimize resources in a matrix organization.
•After the announcement of the merger between HP and Compaq in the autumn of 01, I was moved into the “clean room” to help prepare the merger from an HR point of view.
This meant working in a WW HR team across the two organizations to determine how
we most successfully could move the new organization on to a good start. The outcome
of this work has been an important factor for the success of the merger despite significant differences in culture.
•Following the completion of the “clean room” I moved into the PSG role. This was basically building a new organization from scratch. I worked together with the BU GM to identify the new management team, getting them together through workshops focusing on the cultural dimensions of the merger. Today this is a well functioning management team which is producing excellent results.
•Building the new HR organization which consist of 14 individuals spread across the region (PSG HR and shared services resources connected to PSG).
•Driving the organization through the selection process; “W ho would and who would not be given roles in the new organization?” We downsized the organization by 500
employees over a very short time frame, at the same time taking on the work to bring the two employee groups together. An extensive number of integration trainings were
completed with the main purpose to build awareness about and overcome cultural
differences.
•Kept main focus on how to develop key talent within the organization. Developed a “N ext generation program” in Cooperation with Helsinki School of Economics. We have run the top mgmt team through a 360, using this as basis for their development plan. We have started talent management reviews run on a quarterly basis with concrete action plan and follow up. Have been using management assessment tools to review country
management teams and used it as a basis for determining action plans for the team
members.
•Extensive work in China to support HP’s investment s from a people point of view. To achieve an acceptable cost base we developed a new C&B package with the challenge of implementing this without loosing the best. This new HR program (known as the ICW
program) has been a huge success and is now deployed across all business units.
HR Director for Singapore and South East Asia (2000 – 02)
•Managed an HR organization of 70 people across 6 different countries. (Singapore is the biggest HP site outside the US, approx 8000 people)
•Handled a significant workforce reduction in 2001. This was the first reduction event ever in Singapore. This implied training of managers to support the task, establishing an outplacement center, coordinating the exercise between the different parts of the
organization and worked with the Union and Ministry of Manpower to get their support on our approach.
•Was running the HR council for the site covering all aspects of HR ensuring a consistent deployment of HR programs and practices.
HR Director for Northern Europe and F&A Manager for Norway (95 – 2000) •covered all areas of HR for HP in Scandinavia, Finland, the Baltics and Benelux.
•excellent experience from the F&A area which was handled well based on the usual criteria for success in this function, e.g. internal audit
•during this period the spin off of Agilent took place. I was in charge of this for HP Norway both from a Finance, Legal and HR perspective. Probably one of the most
demanding and useful experiences I have had.
