Tuesday’s news said 25-year-old John Smith from England was the man who left the spot quickly after the rescue last Saturday.

As is known , we’re the apple of our parents’ eyes, and our Grandmas think we have great talents and our Grandpas think we will go to the Olympics. But sometimes it’s a lot harder to think such nice thoughts about ourselves. If you find that believing in yourself is a challenge. It is high time that you should build a positive self-image and learn to love yourselves.
Self-image is your own mind’s picture of yourself. This image includes the way you look, the way you act, the way you talk and the way you think. Interestingly, our self-images are often quite different from the images others hold about US. Unfortunately, most of these images are more negative than they should be. Thus changing the way you think about yourself is the key to changing your self-image and your whole world.
The best way to defeat a passive self-image is to step back and decide to stress your successes. That is, make a list if you need to, but write down all of the great things you do every day. Don’t allow doubts to occur in it.
It very well might be that you are experiencing a negative self-image because you can’t move past one flaw or weakness that you see about yourself. Well, roll up your sleeves and make a change of it as your primary task. If you think you’re silly because you aren’t good at math, find a tutor. If you think you’re weak because you can’t run a mile, get to the track and practice. If you think you’re dull because you don’t wear the latest trends, buy a few new clothes. But remember, just because you think it doesn’t mean it’s true.
The best way to get rid of a negative self-image is to realize that your image is far from objective, and to actively convince yourself of your positive qualities. Changing the way you think and working on those you need to improve will go a long way towards promoting a positive self-image. When you can pat(拍)yourself on the back, you’ll know you’re well on your way. Good luck!
35. You need to build a positive self-image if you _________.
A. dare to challenge yourself

D. have a high opinion of yourself
36. How should you change your self-image according to the passage?

37. What is the passage mainly about?

B. How to face challenges in your life.
C. How to build a positive self-image.
D. How to develop your good qualities.
38. Who are the intended readers of the passage?
A. All the people.
B. Children.
C. Teachers.
D. Parents

Once upon a time, a circle lost a piece of its own. The circle wanted to be whole, so it went around looking for its missing piece. But because it was incomplete, it could only roll very slowly. It enjoyed the flowers and the sunshine along the way. It talked with worms. It found lots of different pieces, but none of them fit. So
it left them all by the side of the road and kept on looking for the missing piece. Then one day the circle found a piece that fit perfectly. It put the missing piece into itself. It could be whole, with nothing missing. It was so happy and began to roll. Now that it was a perfect circle, it could roll very fast, too fast to see flowers or talk to worms. It realized how different the world was when it rolled so quickly. It felt so sad that it stopped, left its found piece by the side of the road and rolled away slowly.
Sometimes we are perfect when we lost something. A man who has everything is a poor man in some ways. He will never have hopes, dreams or something better. He will never know someone is loving him or someone is giving him something he has always wanted or never had.
We couldn’t be perfect, but we must be brave enough to love, strong enough to forgive, kind enough to share happiness with others and clever enough to know there is enough love around us and then we can always live a wonderful time in our lives.

A. spent much time talking to worms
B. lost a piece of its own
C. was looking for its missing piece
D. wanted to enjoy the sunshine
40. After it was whole again and rolled fast, the circle __________.
A. felt unhappy
B. could see more beautiful flowers
C. could talk to any worm
D. could go everywhere
41. If a man owns everything, h e’ll be __________ in some ways.
A. perfect
B. poor
C. happy
D. strong enough
42. The story mainly tells us that __________.
A. nobody loves us if we give nothing
B. a man who has everything is the happiest
C. losing something may not be a bad thing sometimes
D. we are not whole when we lose something
D
I once heard a singer sang “don't need too much talking without saying anything” to reveal his lonely feeling in a crowd.
My father always told me never to ever reveal my true opinions towards other people unless such opinions are positive. He said this is the “Chu Shi Zhe Xue”, the philosophy of dealing with social network.
It seems that everybody here just follows this philosophy very, very well.
I would say that if I were given true friendship I would definitely treasure it with my greatest care. If I really regard someone as my close friend, I would never leave her alone whenever she's in need, either financially or mentally. And I always believe, as long as I treat people with whole-hearted honesty, I would have some rewards—at least, just ONE true friend of the same gender.
Sometimes I just miss my friends in China. Perhaps when we became friends, we were still young, too young to have been polluted by any dirt in the society. But here, it is simply different. It seems that all of us have learned how to survive in a foreign land and such an experience actually makes us learn how to get the most benefits from the surroundings in order to survive.
All are friends around me. I've looked through all the dark sides of their personalities and yet I have to pretend that I know nothing. I say to myself:They are good and we are friends”. And then I can make myself comfortable enough to talk to people I hate the most. And of course, they don't say any words truly from their hearts. Neither do I.
However, sometimes I just feel unwilling to talk to these people. Sometimes, I just want to be alone, quietly, without being forced to listen to their gossip or other useless words.
“Standing on a mountain high
Looking at the moon through a clear blue sky
I should go and see some friends
But they don't really comprehend”
The singer expresses my feelings, too.
43. What do we know about the writer’s f ather according to this passage?
A. He is really a good philosopher.
B. He can get on well with others.
C. He told the writer to reveal her true opinions.
D. The passage doesn’t mention it.
44. Why does the writer mention the song twice in the passage?
A. She likes the song very much.
B. The singer is one of her friends.
C. The song expresses her feelings.
D. She uses it to perfects her article.
45. Which of the following statements about the writer is not TRUE?
A. She is now living abroad but doesn’t enjoy the life there.
B. She sometimes doubts her father’s philosophy.
C. She shows a positive attitude to her relationship with others.
D. She doesn’t think highly of her friends by say ing “They are good”.
46. The writer mostly expresses that she feels ______ in this passage.
