Unmanned aerial vehicle is a kind of air craft which is controlled by soldiers on ground and doesn’t need any pilots on board. With this obvious merit, it has attracted much attention of armies. Now, unmanned aerial vehicles are used to spy on enemies and to fight in war, but abuse of drones also incurs public protest.

The main application of unmanned aerial vehicle is to spy on enemies. Many unmanned aerial vehicles are capable of cruising for days without being fueled. Global Hawk, a typical reconnaissance unmanned aerial vehicle, developed by American army, can fly and gather intelligence continuously for forty eight hours.

Also, unmanned aerial vehicle can be used to fight as a fighter in war. Armies now prefer drones to fighter planes because even if a drone is shot down or crashes, it won’t cause any deaths. Not so long ago, it’s reported that a Predator, drone of US army, killed a leader of Middle East terrorism organization in a military action.

However, abuse of unmanned aerial vehicle incurs some public protest. Some specialists worry that if drones are out of control during their duties, it may cause a disaster to civilians. What’s more, many people doubt unmanned aerial vehicles may violate their personal privacy when spying.

In history, military needs always stimulate appearance and development of technology, such as airplanes and nuclear technology. Up to now, unmanned aerial vehicle has been used to spy on enemies and to fight in war. Nevertheless, I think, to prevent abusing drones, military use of drones needs to be restricted. Meanwhile, unmanned aerial vehicle technology should be applied to serve the public as well.
