高中英语 Try to become a quitter 学会放弃阅读素材

高中英语 Try to become a quitter 学会放弃阅读素材

Try to become a quitter

”……I'm one of those people who's terrible at saying no. I take on too many projects at once, and spend too much of my time doing things I'd rather not be. I get stuff done, but it's not always the best I can do, or the best way I can spend my time. That's why my newest goal, both as a professional and a person, is to be a quitter.Being a quitter isn't being someone who gives up, who doesn't see important things through to the end. I aspire to be the opposite of those things, and think we all should. The quitter I want to be is someone who gets out when there's no value to be added, or when that value comes at the expense of something more important.I want to quit doing things that I'm asked to do, for no other reason than I'm asked to do it. I want to be able to quit something in mid-stream, because I realize there’s nothing g ood coming from it.A friend of mine once told me that "I knew I was an adult when I could stop reading a book, even after getting 500 pages into it." Odd though it sounds, we all tend to do this. We get involved in something, realize we don't want to be a part of it, but keep trucking through. We say "well, I've already invested so much time in this, I might as well stick it out."I propose the opposite: quit as often as possible, regardless of project status or time invested. If you're reading a book, and don't like it, stop reading. Cut your losses, realize that the smartest thing to do is stop before your losses grow even more, and quit. If you're working on a project at work that isn't going anywhere, but you've already invested tons of time on it, quit. Take the time gained by quitting the pointless project, and put it toward something of value. Instead of reading an entire book you hate, read 1/2 a bad one and 1/2 a good one. Isn't that a better use of your time?If you're stuck doing something, and don't really want to do it anymore, step back for a second. Ask if you really have to do this, and what value is being produced from your doing it. Don't think about the time you've put into it, or how much it's taken over your life. If you don't want to do it, and don't have to do it, don't do it.By quitting these things, you'll free up time to do things that actually do create value, for yourself and for others. You'll have time to read all the great books out there, or at least a couple more. You’ll b e able to begin to put your time and effort into the things you'd actually like to do. Let's try it together: what are the things you're doing, that you're only doing because you've been doing them for so long? Quit. Don't let time spent dictate time you will spend. Let's learn how to say "no" at the beginning, or in the middle, and free up more of our time to do the things we’d like to be doing, and the things actually worth doing.Saying no is hard, and admitting a mistaken yes is even harder. But if we do both, we'll start to make sure that we're spending our time creating value, rather than aggravating our losses. Let's be quitters together. What do you think? What in your life can you quit?.- 1 - / 1。

爬山英文素材摘抄初中作文英文:When it comes to mountain climbing, I have mixed feelings. On one hand, I am excited by the challenge and the opportunity to push myself physically and mentally. On the other hand, I am intimidated by the potential danger and the unknown factors that come with climbing a mountain. One of the biggest draws of mountain climbing for me is the sense of accomplishment that comes with reaching the summit. There is nothing quite like standing at the top of a mountain, taking in the breathtaking views and feeling a sense of pride in what I have accomplished. However, this sense of accomplishment is not easily earned. Mountain climbing requires a great deal of physical strength and endurance, as well as mental fortitude and the ability to make split-second decisions in high-pressure situations.Another aspect of mountain climbing that I enjoy is thecamaraderie that comes with climbing in a group. There is a sense of shared experience and mutual support that develops among climbers as they work together to overcome the challenges of the climb. This sense of community is especially important when facing difficult or dangerous situations, as climbers rely on each other for support and safety. However, mountain climbing is not without its risks. The potential for injury or even death is always present, and climbers must be prepared for any situation that may arise. Additionally, the weather and other environmental factors can be unpredictable, making it difficult to planfor every possible scenario.Overall, I believe that mountain climbing can be a rewarding and fulfilling experience, but it is not something to be taken lightly. Proper preparation, training, and safety precautions are essential for any successful climb.中文:说到爬山,我有着复杂的感受。

让人意难平的英语作文素材The Lingering Echoes of Unresolved Longings. In the tapestry of life, we often encounter momentsthat leave an indelible mark on our souls, etching themselves into our memory as fragments of dreams left unfulfilled. These moments, painted with the hues of regret, nostalgia, and longing, become poignant reminders of the paths not taken, the desires left unrequited. Each of us carries within us a reservoir of such emotions, hidden beneath the mundane veneer of daily life. They are the echoes of aspirations that once soared highbut were abruptly silenced, the remnants of relationships that withered away before their full bloom, the bittersweet reminders of opportunities that slipped through our fingers. Some of these experiences are so profound that they leave us perpetually haunted by a sense of what could have been. We replay them in our minds countless times, wondering if a different choice, a bolder step, or a serendipitous encounter could have altered the course ofour destiny. The longing for what was never attained can take on various forms. For some, it manifests as a gnawing regret over a missed opportunity. A chance encounter with a soulmate, a job offer that could have propelled their career, an adventure that remained unexplored—these thoughts linger in their consciousness, serving as constant reminders of the choices they did not make.Others may harbor a sense of nostalgia for a bygone era. They yearn for the simpler times of their childhood, the innocence of their youth, or the fleeting moments of a lost love. These memories, while precious, can also be bittersweet, reminding them of all that has changed and cannot be retrieved. The most poignant of all unfulfilled longings are those that involve relationships. The love that was never fully reciprocated, the connection that was severed prematurely, the companionship that we desperately crave—these emotional wounds can take years to heal, leaving us with a lingering sense of emptiness. The human heart is a complex and enigmatic organ, capable of holding onto both joy and sorrow for eternity. The memories of our unfulfilled longings can be both a source of pain and a poignant reminder of the beauty of our humanity. For as long as we have dreams and aspirations, we will inevitably experience moments of regret and longing. It is in the nature of our existence to constantly strive for more, to push the boundaries of our possibilities. And while not all our desires may be met, the pursuit itself can be incredibly fulfilling. The key to coping with unfulfilled longings is to find a balance between acceptance and aspiration. It isessential to acknowledge our feelings of regret and nostalgia, but it is equally important to move forward with our lives. We cannot dwell forever on what could have been, lest we miss out on the beauty that lies before us.Embracing gratitude can be a powerful antidote to the pain of unfulfillment. By focusing on the positive aspects of our lives, we can shift our perspective and find contentment in what we have. Gratitude helps us appreciate the journey, not just the destination.Furthermore, it is important to remember thatunfulfilled desires can often serve as a catalyst for personal growth. The longing for something more can inspire us to explore new horizons, develop our talents, and become the best versions of ourselves. In the end, the most important thing is not to let our unfulfilled longings define us. They are but a part of our human experience, a testament to the depth of our emotions and the boundless possibilities that life holds. By embracing both the joys and sorrows of our past, we can pave the way for a future filled with meaning and purpose. For in the tapestry of life, every thread, every hue, contributes to the intricate beauty of the whole. And even the unfulfilled longings, while poignant, can serve as a reminder of the boundless capacity of the human heart to dream, to love, and to yearn.。

表达悲伤的句子英语作文素材高中

表达悲伤的句子英语作文素材高中全文共3篇示例,供读者参考篇1Sadness: A Relentless CloudEver since I was a little kid, sadness has been like a dark cloud that follows me around. Some days it's just a tiny speck far away, barely even noticeable. But other days, it's this gigantic, looming mass that blocks out the sun and casts a gloomy shadow over everything. No matter how hard I try to make it go away, that darn cloud stubbornly sticks around.I remember the first time I really felt that yucky sadness feeling. I was 6 years old and it was my birthday. I was so excited because my parents promised to take me to the amazing new amusement park that had just opened up. I could already picture myself zooming down the roller coaster and stuffing my face with cotton candy. But then my dad got called into work for an emergency and we had to cancel our plans. I'll never forget watching my dream birthday being ripped away. The cloud of sadness rolled in quickly that day.As I got older, the sadness cloud only seemed to grow bigger and more permanent. In middle school, I struggled to make friends and often felt like a loser who didn't fit in anywhere. The popular kids would make fun of my frizzy hair or secondhand clothes. Sometimes I would have to walk home alone after school while everyone else got picked up by their parents in fancy cars. Plop, there went the sadness cloud, following my lonely journey. Now that I'm in high school, you'd think I would have figured out how to deal with sadness after being stuck with it for so long. But sadly, that's just not the case. Don't get me wrong, there are still plenty of happy, sunny days that make me feel like I'm finally free from that dumb cloud. Like when I get a good grade on a test I studied really hard for. Or when I nail the singing audition for the school musical. Or when my crush accidentally brushes arms with me in the hallway and I'm suddenly weak in the knees. Those bright moments are always so amazing and give me hope. But then...the cloud inevitably returns, putting a damper on everything. Maybe I'll flub my lines during the musical performance. Or I'll fail the next unit test despite studying just as hard. Or I'll see my crush making out with someone else and realize how foolish I was for believing they could ever like a loserlike me. Suddenly I'm back to questioning my self-worth and wondering what the point of even trying is. The sadness cloud grows darker and more menacing, until I'm trapped underneath its depressing shadow once again.I've tried so many things to make the cloud go away for good, but nothing seems to work. Talking to my parents or teachers about how I'm feeling never really helps because they just don't get it. They tell me "It's just a phase" or "Don't worry, you'll grow out of it." Yeah, right. This has been going on for basically my whole life! Clearly there's no growing out of it.Sometimes music or writing poetry can temporarily chase the sadness away. Getting lost in the lyrics of an angsty rock song or furiously scribbling down my deepest, darkest feelings has a weird way of making me feel understood. Like I'm not so alone in this gloomy world after all. But as soon as that song ends or I put my pen down, the cloud comes drifting back, just as heavy as before.I've accepted that the sadness cloud is probably never going to leave me completely. It's just part of who I am, for better or worse. On my very worst days, I'm stomping around asking "Why me? Why can't I just be a regular kid who's happy all the time?" But I know the truth - there's no such thing as a "regular" person.Everyone has their own struggles and clouds to deal with, even if you can't see them.So I've decided to try and make peace with my sadness cloud rather than constantly fighting against it. It's an uphill battle, but I'm learning to use it as a weird source of strength and creativity. Yeah, the cloud is still there raining on my parade more often than I'd like. But at least it gave me the motivation to start writing lyrics and exploring my musical talents. At least it's shown me that I'm deeper than just some shallow,happy-go-lucky kid.I don't know if the sadness cloud will stick around forever or if it'll eventually dissipate once I get older. All I can do is take it one day at a time and try my best not to let it weigh me down too much. I'll keep writing, keep dreaming, keep exploring the colors of life. And I'll keep reminding myself that even the darkest clouds can't block out the sunshine forever. The storm always passes eventually, no matter how relentless it might feel in that moment. Maybe one day I'll even miss that old cloud after it's finally gone. But somehow, I doubt it.篇2Sadness Is My ShadowI feel like sadness is my shadow these days. No matter where I go or what I do, it follows me around. The dark cloud of sadness seems stuck over my head.It all started a few months ago when my grandpa passed away. Grandpa was my best friend and we did everything together. He would take me fishing, help me with my math homework, and tell me funny stories from when he was a kid. Grandpa had a warm smile and a kind heart. I loved him so much. When Grandpa got really sick, I could sense something was wrong, even though Mom and Dad didn't tell me exactly what was happening. Grandpa had to go to the hospital and none of us were allowed to visit due to his illness. A few weeks later, Mom and Dad sat me down with my little sister Emily. They had tears in their eyes as they explained that Grandpa had died. I didn't really understand what that meant at first. How could someone just stop existing? At the funeral, I saw Grandpa looking so peaceful in his casket. But it didn't seem like him at all without that warm smile and twinkling eyes. I kept waiting for him to sit up and give me a wink like he always did. But he never did. That's when the heavy sadness first descended upon me like a dark winter's night. In the months since then, the sadness has never really gone away. Some days are better than others, but it's always there lingering in the background. At school, I'll be sitting in class and memories of Grandpa will come flooding back - his silly jokes, his calloused hands, his hugs that could squeeze the air out of you. Then the sadness will wash over me in waves until I can hardly concentrate.During recess, I'll see other grandpas visiting the school with their grandkids and jealousy mixes with the sadness. I miss Grandpa so much in those moments. Why did he have to be taken away? It's just not fair.At home after school, I'll go in my room and look at old photos of Grandpa. In many of them, I'm smiling so wide, looking up at him with pure adoration. He looks so full of life and happiness. It makes me sad that I'll never get to make any new memories with him. All I have now are the old ones, which grow more distant and fuzzy with each passing day.Sometimes the sadness even makes it hard to enjoy my favorite activities. Like when I went fishing with Dad last weekend at Grandpa's favorite spot. It should have been fun, but instead I couldn't stop thinking about all the times Grandpa took me there when I was little. He taught me everything I know about fishing.Watching Dad bait the hook and cast the line, I kept expecting to see Grandpa's wrinkled hands instead. I ended up sitting on the bank, holding back tears while Dad tried to cheer me up.Mom says the sadness will fade over time and that it's just part of the grieving process. Dad says Grandpa wouldn't want me moping around feeling sad all the time. Emily tells me not to be such a cry baby. My friends don't really get it - they haven't lost someone so close yet. No one seems to understand how overwhelming this cloud of sadness can be.I know Grandpa is in a better place now and not suffering anymore. I'm glad he's not in pain. But that doesn't make me miss him any less. I wish I could still feel his warmth, smell his Old Spice aftershave, and hear his contagious laughter one more time. He made me feel so loved and safe. Without Grandpa around, the world seems a little less bright. Like one of the rays of sunshine in my life has been extinguished. Some nights when the sadness is really consuming me, I'll look up at the stars and start talking to Grandpa like he's still here. I'll tell him about my day or something funny that happened at school. In those moments of make-believe, I can almost feel his presence surrounding me with hugs. Then a warm feeling will push away some of the darkness for a little while. They say grieving for someone you loved takes time. I'm trying to be patient and keep hoping that one day the sadness won't feel so heavy anymore. Maybe it will transform into warm memories that make me smile instead of crying. For now, the sadness is my unwanted shadow that I can't seem to shake. Until I can learn to dance in the sunlight again without missing Grandpa's radiant smile, the darkness will linger on.篇3Sadness Comes in WavesI used to think that being sad meant crying a lot and feeling really upset all the time. But now I know that sadness can come and go like waves in the ocean. Sometimes the waves are small and gentle, just little ripples that make you feel a bit down. Other times, they crash over you like a giant wall of water, leaving you gasping for air and feeling totally overwhelmed. The first big wave of sadness hit me when my grandpa got really sick last year. Grandpa has always been one of my favorite people. He tells the funniest jokes and gives the best hugs. When I was little, he would take me fishing down at the creek and show me how to dig for worms. We'd sit for hours waiting forsomething to bite, but I didn't mind because Grandpa made it fun. He'd make up silly songs about the fish to pass the time. But then Grandpa started forgetting things. He couldn't remember my name sometimes or where he put his glasses. The doctors said it was a sickness in his brain that makes your memories get all jumbled up. It was really sad watching this happen to my grandpa who had been so sharp and full of life. The sadness welled up inside me like a rising tide.I remember the day when the wave finally crashed over me. Mom was talking about maybe having to move Grandpa to a special home for people with memory problems. I started crying so hard I could barely breathe. All the feelings of sadness that had been building up burst forth in heavy, racking sobs. I was mourning the grandpa I used to know, afraid he might not recognize me anymore. I was mourning the way things used to be before this awful sickness took over. After that big burst of emotion, the wave gradually receded and the sadness became more of an underlying current rather than a crashing wave. There were still hard days when Grandpa didn't know who I was or we had to cancel plans because he was having a bad day. But there were also good days filled with laughter when his memory was better and it felt almost like theold times. I learned to ride the waves and appreciate the good moments while accepting the sad ones too.Another big wave of sadness hit when my best friend Sarah moved away last summer. We had been inseparable since kindergarten. Sarah lived just down the street so we were always at each other's houses playing make believe games or putting on backyard circus shows for our families. We shared everything - our hopes, our dreams, our deepest secrets. Sarah was the first person I came out to as gay and she gave me the biggest hug and said she loved me no matter what. I don't know what I would have done without her supporting me through that.So when Sarah's dad got a new job across the country, it felt like my world was being ripped apart. How could I go through middle school without my best friend by my side? Who would I hang out with at recess or park my bike next to? Sadness gripped me with its icy hands, making it hard to feel any joy knowing that Sarah was leaving. The day of her going away party, I could barely speak through my tears. We made promise bracelets to symbolize our lifelong friendship and I made her a scrapbook with all our memories. But it still didn't feel like enough. Losing your best friend creates a gaping void that nothing can fill completely. When her family finally drove away, I felt like a piece of my heart went with them.Even now months later, I still miss Sarah every single day. But the intensity of that sadness has subsided from a monstrous wave into smaller ripples. We FaceTime and text all the time so we're still very much a part of each other's lives, just in a different way. The void of her absence will always be there, but I've learned to adjust to my new normal and find happiness in other friendships and activities. I know Sarah and I have a bond that can never be broken, no matter how many miles come between us.Honestly, sadness is something that every kid has to deal with in one way or another. A beloved pet dying, parents divorcing, being bullied, failing a big test - these are all things that can trigger those waves of sadness. And it's okay to feel that sadness fully without trying to push it away. Sadness is just another human emotion, like happiness or anger or fear. It's all part of the ebb and flow of feelings that we experience. What's important is learning how to ride those waves of sadness without letting them pull you under completely. Feel them, express them, but don't let them drown you. Maybe that means crying it out with a good friend, writing in a journal, ordoing an activity you love. Find healthy ways to surf through the hard times without letting the sadness consume you entirely.Because just like the constantly shifting tides of the ocean, the waves of sadness will eventually crest and recede again. New waves will come later, but so will periods of peace and calm in between. The key is being resilient and knowing that nothing lasts forever - not even the most powerful surge of sorrow. This too shall pass, just like everything else in this wildly beautiful, radically real life.。
