Fear may be felt in the heart as well as in the head, according to a study that has found a link between the cycles of a beating heart and the chance of someone feeling fear.Tests on healthy volunteers found that they were more likely t o feel a sense of fear at the moment when their hearts are co ntracting(收缩)and pumping blood around their bodies, compared with the point when the heartbeat is relaxed. Scient ists say the results suggest that the heart is able to influence how the brain responds to a fearful event, depending on which point it is at in its regular cycle of contract ion and relaxation.Sarah Garfinkel at the Brighton and Sussex Medical School s aid:“Our study shows for the first time that the way in which we de al with fear is different depending on when we see fearful pictures in relation to our heart.”The study tested 20 healthy volunteers on their reactions to fe ar as they were shown pictures of fearful faces. Dr Garfinkel s aid,“The study showed that fearful faces are better noticed when t he heart is pumping than when it is relaxed. Thus our hearts c an also affect what we see and what we don't see—and guide whether we see fear.”To further understand this relationship, the scientists also used a brain scanner to show how the brai n influences the way the heart changes a person's feeling of f ear.“We have found an important mechanism by which the heart and brain ‘speak’ to each other to change our feelings and red uce fear,” Dr Garfinkel said.“We hope that by increasing our understanding about how fea r is dealt with and ways that it could be reduced, we may be a ble to develop more successful treatments for anxiety disorde rs,and also for those who may be suffering from serious stress d isorder.”1.What is the finding of the study?A. 一轮复习高考英语专题复习阅读理解(附答案)一、高中英语阅读理解1.阅读理解Eating red meat is linked to cancer and heart disease, but are the risks big enough to justify giving up juicy burgers and delicious steaks? Probably not, according to researchers who reviewed data from 12 clinical trials involving about 54,000 people. In a series of controversial papers, the researchers argue that the increased health risks tied to red meat are small and uncertain, and that cutting back likely wouldn't be worth it for people who enjoy meat. Those conclusions go against established medical advice. They were swiftly attacked by a group of famous U.S. scientists who took the unusual step of trying to stop the papers from being published until their criticisms were addressed. The new work does not say red or processed meats like hot dogs and bacon are healthy, or that people should eat more of them. The team's reviews of past studies generally support the ties to cancer, heart disease and other bad health outcomes. But the authors say the evidence is weak, and that there's not much certainty meat is really the cause, since other diet and lifestyle factors could be at play.If the latest example of how divisive nutrition research has become, with its uncertainties leaving the door open for conflicting advice. Critics say findings often aren't backed by strong evidence. Defenders counter that nutrition studies can rarely be conclusive because of the difficulty of measuring the effects of any single food, but that methods have improved.Based on their analyses, the researchers said people do not have to cut back for health reasons. But they noted that their own advice is weak, and acknowledged that they didn't consider factors such as animal welfare and the environment. Indeed, the case that meat production is bad for animal welfare and the environment is stronger than the case that it's bad for human health, according to an editorial that accompanies the report. Not all of the report authors agreed with its conclusions. Three of the 14 researchers said they support reducing red and processed meats. A coauthor of one of the reviews is also among those who called for a publication delay. Those who pushed to postpone publication also questioned why certain studies were included in the reviews while others were left out.As for his own diet, Dr. Gordon Guyatt, a member of the international research team that conducted the reviews, said he no longer thinks red or processed meats have significant health risks. But he said he still avoids them out of habit, and for animal welfare and environmental reasons.(1)What is the author's purpose in writing the passage?A.To introduce a new relationship between health and eating red meat.B.To urge more people to keep away from eating red meat regularly.C.To present a new controversial view on impacts of eating red meat.D.To criticize nutrition studies for lacking of conclusive evidence.(2)What is the author's attitude towards the new research?A.Doubtful.B.Positive.C.Disapproving.D.Objective.(3)Guyatt's avoiding red meats has the weakest connection with_______.A.health risksB.diet habitsC.animal welfareD.environmental protection(4)What can we learn from the recent research?A.Red meats don't have significant health risks.B.Reducing meat consumption will be worth it.C.The report authors have reached a consensus.D.Consuming red meat will do good to health.【答案】(1)C(2)D(3)A(4)A【解析】【分析】本文是一篇议论文,作者对于吃红肉是否与癌症和心脏病有关引用了研究发现、结果、例子等客观数据和事实来写这篇文章。

Scientists recently found three animal species living two miles below the surface of the Mediterranean Sea,where the super-salty waters don't have oxygen(氧)。

They’re multicellular(多细胞的), which means their bodies have many cells。

They each are as small as a large grain of sand。

But they are animals. The most exciting thing about these creatures, say the scientists,is that they obviously don't need oxygen to live. What biologists know about life so far is that only single—celled living things can live in places that have no oxygen, and that multicellular organisms(有机物) can visit these places, but not live there。

These newly found creatures could change that idea。

Finding animals down th ere was so surprising that the scientists couldn’t believe it。

You should be learning to stand on your own feet. But take a good look at the present rebellion. It see ms that teenagers are taking the same way of showing that th ey disagree with their parents. Instead of striking out boldly on their own, most of them are clutching(紧握)at one another’s hands for reassurance(安慰).They claim they want to dress as they please. But they all we ar the same clothes. Then set off in new directions in music. But somehow they all end up with listening to the same record together. Their reason for thinking or acting in thus-and-such a way is that many people are doing it. They have come out of their cocoon(茧)into a larger cocoon. It has become harder and harder for a teenager to stand up a gainst the popularity wave and go his or her own way. 2021届高考英语大一轮复习课时作业17Unit9Wheels含解析北师大版

课时作业17Ⅰ.阅读理解AAlong with the progress of reform and opening up, the Chinese film industry has also made remarkable achievements and economic growth. It has recorded social changes in the past decades through the medium of the film. The film market of China has been much better than that of North America, becoming the largest in the world during the first season of 2019.In the original stage of reform and opening up, old Chinese movies were rescreened and foreign movies dubbed (译制). Audiences' enthusiasm for movies was lighted up by both these practices. In 1979, the attendance of Chinese moviegoers reached a record high of 29.3 billion. However, televisions and other entertainment activities sprang up in the late 1980s and drew many audiences away from movies when the film market faced a danger. The employment of a socialist market economy in China in 1992 brought energy again to the film industry. With the introduction of free competition and reforms, it made an abundant recovery and experienced rapid growth. In the same period, China began to introduce overseas movies into the home market, especially those from Hollywood. Despite the argument that foreign movies occupy the space of homemade ones, Chinese movies with increasingly higher quality have gained a firm foothold in the local market with box offices setting several new records. The development of the Internet has added new energy to the Chinese film industry. In 2015, the powerful Internet companies, one called Tencent and another Alibada, developed their own film arm and began to adapt popular online stories for movies. With big data, more accurate marketing skills can target specific audiences to satisfy their personal preferences. Yet the development of online cinemas may pose threats to the survival of offline ones. Now the film industry is exploring more advanced film screening technologies to provide audiences with an improved movie experience.本文是一篇说明文。

阅读如下短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出最优选项。

Reading poems is not exactly an everyday activity for most people. In fact, many people never read a poem once they get out of high school. It is worth reminding ourselves that this has not always been the case in America. In the nineteenth century, a usual American activity was to sit around the fireside in the evening and read poems aloud. It is true that there was no television at the time, nor movie theaters, nor World Wide Web, to provide diversion. However, poems were a source of pleasure, of self-education, of connection to other people or to the world beyond one’s own community. Reading them was a social act as well as an individual one, and perhaps even more social than individual. Writing poems to share with friends and relations was, like reading poems by the fireside, another way in which poetry has a place in everyday life. How did things change? Why are most Americans no longer comfortable with poetry, and why do most people today think that a poem has nothing to tell them and that they can do well without poems? There are, I believe, three culprits(肇事者):poets, teachers, and we ourselves. Of these, the least important is the third: the world surrounding the poem has betrayed us more than we have betrayed the poem. Early in the twentieth century, poetry in English headed into directions unfavorable to the reading of poetry. Readers decided that poems were not for the fireside or the easy chair at night, that they belonged where other difficult-to-read things belonged.Poets failed the reader, so did teachers. They want their students to know something about the skills of a poem, they want their students to see that poems mean something. Yet what usually occurs when teachers push these concerns on their high school students is that young people decide poems are unpleasant crossword puzzles.1. Reading poems is thought to be a social act in the nineteenth century because.A. it built a link among peopleB. it helped unite a communityC. it was a source of self-educationD. it was a source of pleasure2. The underlined word “diversion〞(in Paragraph 2) most probably means “〞.A. concentrationB. changeC. amusementsD. stories3. According to the passage, what is the main cause of the great gap between readers and poetry?A. Students are becoming less interested in poetry.B. Students are poorly educated in high school.C. TV and the Internet are more attractive than poetry.D. Poems have become difficult to understand.4. In the last paragraph, the writer questions.A. the difficulty in studying poemsB. the way poems are taught in schoolC. students’ wrong ideas about poetryD. the techniques used in writing poems1、答案解析:答案为A。

The sense of humor, laughter and playplays an important part in keeping you healthy.Treat the blues with a sense of humor, which is closely tied to laughter.Laughter is infectious. Have you ever heard a big laugh of a young childand been able to keep yourself from smiling? When laughter is sharedbetween people, it makes them closer to each other and increases their happiness. Smiling is the beginning of laughter and a smile is also just as infectious as laughter is. You can experience something by smiling at everyone around you, and you will feel happier just by sharing a smile, even with a stranger.Play is an important part of making sure that we stay healthy. We are often encouraged to make sure our children play, and are told of the benefits of being out playing. However, what we often forget is that it is just as important for old people to make play be part of their life as it’s for children. Physical play is important for the old and it certainly helps prevent illness. While the studies are still in the early stages, the studies that have been done have shown that physical play certainly plays a part in preventing cognitive(认知的) falling.Anyway, adding humor, laughter, and play to our life will influence us mentally, physically and socially and bring us many advantages. So we should make full use of humor, laughter and play to make our life more active, more interesting and happier.【解题导语】本文是一篇说明文,主要介绍了幽默、大笑和玩耍给人们的健康带来的好处。

I prefer Lynne T russ’s phraseology: I am a grammar “sticker”. And, like Truss – author of Eats, shoots & Leaves –I have a “zero tolerance” approach to grammar mistakes that make people look stupid. Now, Truss and I disagree on what it means to have “zero tolerance”. She thinks that people who mix up basic grammar “deserve to be struck by lightning, hacked (砍) up on the spot and buried in an unmarked grave”, while I just think they deserve to be passed over for a job – even if they are otherwise qualified for the position.Everyone who applies for a position at either of my companies, iFixit or Dozuki, takes a compuls ory grammar test. If job hopefuls can’t distinguish between “to” and “too”, their applications go into the bin.Of course, we write for a living. is the world’s largest online repair manual (指南), and Dozuki helps companies write their own technical documentation, like paperless work instructions and step-by-step user manuals. So, it makes sense that we’ve made a strong strike against grammar errors. But grammar is relevant for all companies. Yes, language is constantly changing, but that doesn’t make grammar unimportant. Good grammar is credibility, especially on the Internet. And, for better or worse, people judge you if you can’t tell the difference between “their” “there” and “they’re”.Good grammar makes good business sense –and not just when it comes to hiring writers. Writing isn’t in the official job description of most people in our office. Still, we give our grammar test to everybody, including our salespeople, our operations staff, and our programmers.Grammar signifies more than jus t a person’s ability to remember high school English. I’ve found that people who make fewer mistakes on a grammar test also make fewer mistakes when they are doing something completely unrelated to writing – like stocking shelves or labeling parts. It is t he same with programmers. Applicants who don’t think writing is important are likely to think lots of other things also aren’t important.1. The author agrees with Lynne Truss in that ________.A. grammar mistakes can’t be toleratedB. books on grammar make people stupidC. people need to learn basic grammarD. grammar mistakes are absolutely unavoidable. What’s the a uthor’s “zero tolerance” approach to these job seekers who mix up basic grammar?A. They should be left out for a job.B. They have to correct their mistakes.C. They aren’t qualified for their jobs.D. They must be severely punished.3. Which of the following is TRUE of iFixit and Dozuki?A. Only one of them has a compulsory grammar test.B. They are companies where one learns grammar.C. Grammar is quite important for their existence.D. They depend on grammar correction for a living.4. What can we learn from the text?A. Companies giving grammar tests may have no good business sense.B. Grammar becomes unimportant as language is constantly changing.C. A “zero t oleran ce” approach to grammar errors might seem a little unfair.D. People who pay attention to writing may pay attention to other things.

A study has showed that the brain makes decisions about 10 seconds before a person realizes it.Experts involved in the study said that looking at brain activity while making a decision, they could predict the choices the subjects would make, before they realized that they had made a decision. Lead researcher John-Dylan Haynes, a neuroscientist (神经学家)at the Max Planck Institute for Human Cognitive and Brain Sciences in Leipzig, said that the new findings called into questions for “consciousness”of decisions that people make, and might even challenge ideas as to how“free”people are to make a decision at a particular moment.“We think our decisions are conscious, but these data show that consciousness is just the tip of the iceberg,”Nature magazine quoted (引用) him as saying. Thinking the results“quite dramatic”, Frank Tong of Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee, said that 10 seconds is“a lifetime”in terms of brain activity.During the study, the brains of 14 volunteers were imaged as they performed a decision-making task. The subjects had two buttons before them, each to be operated by a different hand, which they could press when they felt the urge to. They were simultaneously (同时地)shown a stream of letters, which appeared on a screen at half-second intervals (间隔). The volunteers had to remember which letter was showing when they decided to press their button.Upon analysis of the data, the researchers realized that the earliest signal they could catch started seven seconds before the volunteers reported having made their decision. Given the delay of a few seconds in the imaging, they reckoned (估计) that the brain activity could have begun about ten seconds before the conscious decision. The researchers showed that the signals were picked up from a region (区域)called the frontopolar cortex (脑额极皮层), which is located at the front of the brain, immediately behind the forehead. While writing about the observations made during the research in his study report, Haynes said that the frontopolar cortex might be the brain region where decisions are started. He also showed that the next step in the research would be to speed up the data analysis so as to enable histeam to predict people’s choices as their brains would make them.1. The passage tells us that ______.A. we are aware of our whole process of decision-makingB. people don’t make decisions until they realize itC. experts have no way to tell what decision one will makeD. the decision-making process starts before it is made2. The underlined word “subjects”in Para. 2 probably refers to ______.A. the topic of the experts’ research paperB. the scientific subjects that the experts were studyingC. the things that experts don’t know clearlyD. the volunteers that the experts worked on for their research3. The underl ined sentence“consciousness is just the tip of the iceberg”in Para. 4 means that ______.A. our decision-making is consciousB. the data contains a lot of information besides consciousnessC. consciousness is the major part of the dataD. 10 seconds is“a lifetime”in terms of brain activity4. The final purpose of the research ______.A. is not stated clearly in the passageB. is not acknowledged by expertsC. is to show where decision-making startsD. is to analyze the data picked up5. The passage implies that ______.A. the research has been completedB. the research was conducted by two expertsC. the decision-making process lasts only about 10 secondsD. we may predict what decisions people will make in the future【参考答案】1—4、DDBA【2014模拟】阅读理解。

阅读下列四篇短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出最佳选项。

Do you know of anyone who uses the truth to deceive(欺骗)?When someone tells you something that is true, but leaves out important information that should be included,he can give you a false picture. For example, someone might say, ''I just won a hundred.dollars on the lottery(彩票).It was great.I took that dollar ticket back to the store and turned it in for one hundred dollars!".This guy's a winner, right? Maybe, maybe not.We then discover that he bought$200 worth of tickets, and only one was a winner. He’s really a big loser! He didn't say anything that was false, but he left out important information on purpose. That's called a half-truth.Half truths are not technically lies, but they are just as dishonest. Some politicians often use this trick.Let’s say that during Governor Smith’s last term, her state lost one million jobs and gained three million jobs. Then she seeks another term. One of her opponents says, “During Governor Smith’s term, the state lost one million jobs!” That’s true. However,an honest statement would have been,“During Governor Smith’s term, the state had a net gain of two millio n jobs.”Advertisers will sometimes use half-truths.It's against the law to make false statements so they try to mislead you with the truth. An advertisement might say,''Nine out of ten doctors advised their patients to take Yucky Pills to cure toothache.'' It fails to mention that they only asked ten doctors and nine of them work for the Yucky Company. This kind of deception happens too often. It’s a sad fact of life:Lies are lies, and sometimes the truth can 1ie as well.【小题1】The underlined word“opponents”in Paragraph 3 means .A.enemy B.partner C.cooperator D.assistant【小题2】We may infer that the author believes people should .A:.buy lottery tickets if possible B.make use of half-truthsC.be careful about what they are told D.not trust the Yucky Company【小题3】How many examples does the writer give to show how the truth is used to deceive?A.One. B.Two. C.Three.D.Four.【小题4】Which of the following is true according to the passage?A.Using half truths is against the law.B.Technically,half truths are in fact lies.C.Yucky Pills is a very good medicine for toothache.D.Governor Smith did a good job during her last term.【小题5】M1ich of the following best expresses the main idea of the passage?A.He’s really a big loser!B.Sometimes the truth can lie as well.C.Advertisers will sometimes use half truths.D.It’s against the law to make false statements.【答案】【小题1】A【小题2】C【小题3】C【小题4】D社会生活类The world economy has run into a brick wall. Despite countless warnings in recent years about the need to address a potential hunger crisis in poor countries and an energy crisis worldwide, world leaders failed to think ahead. The result is a global food crisis. Wheat, corn and rice prices have more than doubled in the past two years. And oil prices have increased more than three times since the start of 2004. These food-price increases, combined with increasing energy costs, will slow if not stop economic growth in many parts of the world and will even affect political stability. Practical solutions to these problems do exist, but we’ll have to start thinking ahead and acting globally. Here are three steps to ease the current food crisis and avoid the potential for a global crisis. The first is to promote the dramatic success of Malawi, a country in southern Africa, which three years ago established a special fund to help its farmers get fertilizer and seeds with high productivity. Malawi’s harvest doubled after just one year. An int ernational fund based on the Malawi model would cost a mere $10 per person annually in the rich world, or $10 billion altogether.Second, the U. S. and Europe should abandon their policies of paying partly for the change of food into biofuels. The U. S. government gives farmers a taxpayer-financed payment of 51 cents per gallon of ethanol(乙醇) changed from corn. There may be a case for biofuels produced on lands that do not produce foods—tree crops, grasses and wood products—but there’s no case for the government to pay to put the world’s dinner into the gas tank.Third, we urgently need to weather-proof the world’s crops as soon and as effectively as possible. For a poor farmer, sometimes something as simple as a farm pond—which collects rainwater to be used in dry weather—can make the difference between a good harvest and a bad one. The world has already committed to establishing a Climate Adaptation Fund to help poor regions climate-proof vital economic activities such as food production and health care but has not yet acted upon the promise.1. An international fund based on the Malawi model would .A. cost each of the developed countries $10 billion per yearB. aim to double the harvest in southern African countries in a yearC. decrease the food prices as well as the energy pricesD. give poor farmers access to fertilizer and highly productive seeds2. With the second step, the author expresses the idea that .A. it is not wise to change food crops into gasB. it is misleading to put tree crops into the gas tankC. we should get alternative forms of fuel in any wayD. biofuels should be developed on a large scale3. Which of the following is true according to the passage?A. A rain-collecting pond is a simple safeguard against by weather.B. A Climate Adaptation Fund has been established to help poor regions.C. The world has made a serious promise to build farm ponds.D. It makes a great difference whether we develop wood products or not.4. In the passage, the author calls on us to .A. slow down but not to stop economic growthB. develop tree crops, grasses and wood productsC. achieve economic growth and political stabilityD. act now so as to relieve the global food shortage【参考答案】47.1-4 DAAD阅读理解-------AWalk through the Amazon rainforest today and you will find it is steamy, warm, damp and thick. But if you had been around 15,000 years ago, during the last ice age, would it have been the same? For more than 30 years, scientists have been arguing about how rainforests like the Amazon might have reacted(反应)to the cold, dry climates of the ice ages, but until now, no one has reached a satisfying answer.Rainforests like the Amazon are important for mopping up CO2 from the atmosphere and helping toslow global warming. Currently the trees in the Amazon take in around 500 million tones of CO2 each year; equal to the total amount of CO2 giving off in the UK each year. But how will the Amazon react to future climate change? If it gets drier ,will it still survive and continue to draw down CO2 ? Scientists hope that they will be able to learn in advance how the rainforest will manage in the future by understanding how rainforests reacted to climate change in the past. Unfortunately, getting into the Amazon rainforest and collecting information are very difficult. To study past climate, scientists need to look at fossilized pollen, kept in lake muds. Going back to the last ice age means drilling deep down into lake sediments (沉淀物), which requires specialized equipment and heavy machinery . There are very few roads and paths, or places to land helicopters and aeroplanes. Rivers tend to be the easiest way to enter the forest ,but this still leaves vast areas between the rivers completely unsampled(未取样). So far, only a handful of cores have been drilled that go back to the last ice age and none of them provide enough information to prove how the Amazon rainforest reacts to climate change.1. The underlin ed phrase “mopping up” in the second paragraph means ________.A. cleaning upB. taking inC. wiping outD. giving out答案解析:答案为B。
