The Genera Idea of This Period教学设计The Cultural Corner in this module introduces to us people’s predictions about the future. These predictions has turned out to be absurd，so it is very interesting to read and thus attract the students. However，it can also make the students think about this question；How do we treat the development of the world？In dealing with this part the teacher may decide the Teaching Methods. If time permits，intensive reading is necessary；but if not，extensive reading，fast reading or skimming is also OK. And the Task of this module is to describe one’s ideal house for the future. You may first ask the students to draw a picture of the house and a plan of the rooms inside. And then the students are encouraged to say what each room in the house is and any interesting features it will have. The better ones may demonstrate their works to the whole class.
Finally we will have a review of this module in the Module File. This part is a summary of this module. It may help the students to know whether they have mastered the main points or not. If time permits，the teacher may analyze this part and consolidate it with some exercises.

Step 2 Cultural Corner
T: People often make predictions about things in the future. Will all the predictions come true？So you know some famous predictions？Will you tell the class about it？
S: Of course not. People make good predictions as well as bad ones. Once when I was reading a magazine，I came across the following words: No flying machine will ever fly from New York to Paris，which is said by Orville wright in 1908.
T:Any volunteer？
S: And many people are afraid of the end of the world. They make predictions about the date of the end of the world，which was proved wrong.
T:Good jobs！Now let’s read the following passage to learn more about some famous predictions in the past. While reading please find the answers to the following questions.

T:Since you have known so much about making predictions，now would you please write a few sentences about life in China in future？

A possible version:
Bicycles
Bicycles are popular around China nowadays. People ride them for exercises and enjoyment. In the future，bicycles will be equipped with computer. People can watch TV or surf the Internet while they are riding. The bicycle will become extremely fast，too. It will take only 3 hours to ride across the world. And it won’t pollute the environment. In rainy or cold days，you can flash a switch on the computer screen，and there will appear a kind of soft thin coating which covers all of your body. You don’t n eed to wear a raincoat or heavy clothes.
Step 3 Task
T: The task in this module is to describe your ideal house for the future. You may work in groups of four. Design a house for the future and make a drawing of the outside of the house and a plan of the rooms inside. Please think about the following questions:

(Give the students a few minutes to prepare.)
T: Okay. Now say what each room in the house is and any interesting features it will have.

T: In this period we learn something about Famous Last Words. And then we learned to describe our ideal house for the future. All of you did very good jobs. Your homework today is to carry out a competition in describing your own ideal houses in the future among the whole class. Meanwhile，find more exercises about Future Continuous to do. Ast: Space research will progress quickly. I think we’ll know for certain whe ther there has ever been life on Mars. I hope this will happen in the next ten years while I am still alive. Also，we will send people to the moon. I’m sure there will be a station on the moon and people will be living there in 20 years’ time. We will use it as a base for manned trips to Mars.
