―Mum, what does it mean when someone tells you that they have a skeleton (骨骼) in the closet (衣橱)?‖Jessica asked. ―A skeleton in the closet?‖ her mother paused thoughtfully, Well, it‘s something that you would rather not have anyone else know about. For example, if in the past, someone in Dad‘s family had been arrested for stealing a horse, it would be ‗a skeleton in his family‘s closet‘. He really wouldn‘t want any neighbor to know about it.‖
―Why pick on my family?‖Jessica‘s father said with anger. ―Your family history isn‘t so good, you know. Wasn‘t your great – great grandfather a prisoner who was transported to Australia for his crimes?‖―Yes, but people these days say that you are not a real Australian unless your ancestors arrived as prisoners.‖―Gosh, sorry I asked. After dinner, the house was very quiet. Jessica‘s parents were still quite angry with each other.
Her mother was ironing clothes and every now and then she glared at her husband, who hid behind his newspaper pretending to read. While Jennifer was at home taking an online exam for her business law class, a monitor (监控器) a few hundred miles away was watching her every move.
Using a web camera equipped in Jennifer‘s Los Angeles apartment, the monitor in Phoenix tracked how frequently her eyes moved form the computer screen and listened for the secret sounds of a possible helper in the room. Her Internet access was locked—remotely—to prevent Internet searches, and her typing style was analyzed to make sure she was who she said she was: Did she enter her student number at the same speed as she had in the past? Or was she slowing down?
In the battle against cheating, this is the cutting edge and a key to encourage honesty in the booming field of online education. The technology gives trust to the entire system, to the institution and to online education in general. Only with solid measures against cheating, experts say, can Internet universities show that their exams and diplomas are valid—that students haven‘t just searched the Internet to get the right answers.
Although online classes have existed for more than a decade, the concern over cheating has
become sharper in the last year with the growth of ―open online courses.‖ Private colleges, public universities and corporations are jumping into the online education field, spending millions of dollars to attract potential students, while also taking steps to help guarantee honesty at a distance.
Aside from the web cameras, a number of other high-tech methods are becoming increasingly popular. Among them are programs that check students‘ identities using personal information, such as the telephone number they once used.
Other programs can produce unique exam by drawing on a range list of questions and can recognize possible cheaters by analyzing whether difficult test questions are answered at the same speed as easy ones. As in many university classes, term papers are scanned against some large Internet data banks for cheating.
55. Why was Jennifer watched in an online exam?
A. To correct her typing mistakes.
B. To find her secrets in the room.
C. To prevent her from slowing down.
D. To keep her from dishonest behaviors.
56. For internet universities, exams and diplomas will be valid if _____.
A. they can attract potential students
B. they can defeat academic cheating
C. they offer students online help
D. they offer many online courses
57. Which of the following is the best title of this passage?
A. The Advantages of Online Exams
B. The High-tech Methods in Online Courses
C. The Fight against Cheating in Online Education
D. The War against the Booming of Online Education

We are familiar with an old saying that ―Clothes make the man, which means good –looking outfits may possibly make a person better respected and look more like a true gentleman.
61 . Naturally, he may be well respected and gracefully treated even though he doesn‘t seem so respectable as others imagined. Instead, if a man is poorly or commonly dressed, he can‘t avoid being looked down upon and unfairly treated, 62 .As far as these people are concerned, what one wears is taken as an essential signal of status and an expression of characteristics. Consequently, clothes do seem to help make a good impression on others and gain more respect.
63 .I think the good impres sion one leaves on others based on clothes doesn‘t last long. Only good internal quality and beauty will impress people forever and never fade. 64 .On the contrary, when people who are attracted by a person‘s clothes eventually find out that he is not an admirable person, they would think he is not what he looks like and may even treat him with contempt (蔑视). On top of this, people who attach too much importance to clothes would waste their time and money on it: Besides, it adversely affects their effort on the things that really matter.
In summary, 65 . Nothing can count more than good internal quality in building up the man. Therefore only one‘s internal beauty and knowledge are more decisive of a person‘s value.
A. clothes do help in making an initial image, but do not make the man.
B. As a result, all the people spare no money to buy expensive fine clothes.
C. Clothes just make a man look better but will in no sense make a better person.
D. But I have a different view on this issue.

I‘m the only daughter of my parents. So they worried about everything I do. For example, when I ride my bike, my parents won‘t let me to ride by myself. They are afraid I might fall off my bike and hurt myself. They are taking great trouble to support a bike, with my mother even carried a first-aid box.
