Good morning. I’m Chen Hua. Here’s my culture report for today, Monday.
A new film starts tonight at the student cinema at eight o’clock. The film is Pirates of the Carribean. It’s a fantastic adventure film. Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom are the stars. They are both very popular and famous, and they both act well in this film, and make their characters believable.
The story is about an old ship. It sails around the Carribean islands. Depp and Bloom try to find some lost gold. Then they come face to face with some terrible men, and have to fight them. There's lots of action, and the fighting looks really dangerous. They also saves Keira Knightly. She plays Elisabeth, the daughter of a rich man. The scenes with Knightly and Bloom are beautiful and romantic.
The film isn't true to life, but it' s very exciting, and some of it is very funny.
It' s an enjoyable film, although in my opinion there's too much fighting. But except for that, it's an excellent film.

A friend of mine named Paul received an expensive car from his brother as a Christmas present. On Christmas Eve when Paul came out of his office, a street urchin (顽童)was walking around the shining car. "Is this your car, Paul?" he asked.
Paul answered, "Yes, my brother gave it to me for Christmas." The boy was surprised. "You mean your brother gave it to you and it didn't cost you anything. Boy, I wish..."He hesitated (犹豫).

He ran up to the steps. Then in a short while Paul heard him coming back, but he was not coming fast. He was carrying his little crippled ( 残疾 ) brother. He sat him down on the step and pointed to the car.
"There he is, Buddy, just like I told you upstairs. His brother gave it to him for Christmas and it didn't cost him a cent. And some day I'm going to give you one just like it. Then you can see for yourself all the nice things in the Christmas window that I've been trying to tell you about."

Earthquakes strike suddenly at any time of the day or night, there’s no way to tell when. If an earthquake happens, it may cause many deaths and injuries and great damage. Decide how and where your family will get together if separate. Choose an out-of-state friend or relative that the family members can call after the quake to report where they are and how they are. Know the safe places in each room: under the strong tables, desks, or against inside walls and keep enough food, water and other things, including a flashlight, a radio, medicines and clothing.
During the earthquake, you should keep a clear head and never be too nervous to know what to do. Protect your head and neck with your arms. If possible, take a book, a pillow or any other things to protect yourself from falling glass and ruins. If you are indoors, you must immediately lie under any strong furniture. If outdoors, move to an open area away from trees, buildings, walls and power poles. In a narrow valley, move to the center of it and look out for falling stones. If you are in the car, move to the side of the road and stop the car. Do not stop near buildings, power lines and on or under the bridges. Stay in your car until the shaking stops.
Do not move badly injured person unless they are in great danger after the earthquake. Do not use the telephone immediately unless there is a serious injury or fire. Turn on your radio for instructions and news reports. Be prepared for aftershocks. If you should leave your home, post a message inside your home telling family members where you can be found.

As any homemaker who has tried to keep order at the dinner table knows, there is far more to a family meal than food. Sociologist Michael Lewis has been studying 50 families to find out just how much more.
Lewis and his co-workers carried out their study by videotaping(录像)the families while they ate ordinary meals in their own homes. They found that parents with small families talk actively with each other and their children. But as the number of children gets larger, conversation gives way to the parents’ efforts to control the loud noise they m ake. That can have an important effect on the children. “In general
the more question-asking the parents do, the higher the children’s IQ scores,” Lewis says. “And the more children there are, the less question-asking there is.”
The study also provides an explanation for why middle children often seem to have a harder time in life than their siblings(兄弟姐妹). Lewis found that in families with three or four children, dinner conversation is likely to center on the oldest child, who has the most to talk about, and the youngest, who needs the most attention. “Middle children are invisible,”says Lewis. “When you see someone get up from the table and walk around during dinner, chances are it’s the middle child.” There is, however, one thing that stops all conversation and prevents anyone from having attention:“When the TV is on,” Lewis says, “dinner is a non-event.”
56. The writer’s purpose in writing the text is to____________.
A. show the relationship between parents and children
B. teach parents ways to keep order at the dinner table
C. report on the findings(结果) of a study
D. give information about family problems
57. Parents with large families ask fewer questions at dinner because_________.
A. they are busy serving food to their children
B. they are busy keeping order at the dinner table
C. they have to pay more attention to younger children
D. they are tired out having prepared food for the whole family
58. By saying “Middle children are invisible” in paragraph 3, Lewis means that middle children__________.
A. have to help their parents to serve dinner
B. get the least attention from the family
C. are often kept away from the dinner table
D. find it hard to keep up with other children
59. Lewis research provides an answer to the question__________.
A. why TV is important in family life
B. why parents should keep good order
C. why children in small families seem to be quieter
D. why middle children seem to have more difficulties in life
60. Which of the following statements would the writer agree to?
A. It is important to have the right food for children.
B. It is a good idea to have the TV on during dinner.
C. Parents should talk to each of their children frequently.
D. Elder children should help the younger ones at dinner.
[1]Can you imagine going through a whole day without telling a lie? “Yes,of course,”most people would answer, but then they've probably forgotten all these lies that are told so easily一“This is delicious.”“You look lovely in tha t dress.”“I'd love to come with you,”etc.Lies are used a lot in everyday life.[2]Generally speaking,_______________.The first type of liar wants to please people. The second type wants to protect himself or herself, and the third type lies to get what he or she wants.Lying can also be separated into three different catalogues.
Both sides benefit
[3]If someone is fishing for compliments(赞美)and you tell them what they want to hear, you probably think this a“kind”lie. However, you get something as a result ot this lie, too—affection, friendship,or peace and quiet.
Refusing to accept responsibility
[4] When you lie for self-protection,the reason is very clear. To explain your late-ness,you tell your boss the train was late, not that you overslept. You cannot be blamed for being late, because you are not responsible for any problems the train has and the con-sequences of those problems.
The worst type of lie
[5]The third sort of lie is more harmful. It is,for example, the kind of lie that people tell in order to climb up the ladder at work, without caring about the people who are treated badly and unfairly.
[6]What about being lied to? Can you tell when someone is telling you a lie? Obviously there are some verbal(明显可视的) signs. Liars often take longer to answer questions. They also speak faster but are sometimes very unclear about details. Certain types of body language can also indicate that someone is lying. Experts say that speaking through one's fingers or putting one’s hands over one's face may indicate that a person is lying.P1aying with one's hair or clothes and being unable to stay still for any length of time are others.
1.How does the author introduce the topic of the text?(no more than 10 words) ____________________________________________________________

Thanks / Thank you, but…
I’m sorry, but…
Thanks, but…
I really want to, but I…
I’m afraid I …
6解析:A。
此句式it 做形式宾语的结构如下find/make/consider/suppose等+it+adj/n+to do/that….。
give off表示“发出(光等),排出,放出”;turn down表示“把声音调小;委婉拒绝”;take over表示“接管”;set aside表示“撇开(不顾,取消,放弃,保留)”。
“when everyone used horses”是定语从句,修饰先行词the days,且when在从句中作状语。
“you respond to it”是完整的句子,所以用连接副词,此处表示的是方式,故用how。
the young man与achieve之间是主谓关系,且根据句意可知achieve 动作已经完成,故用现在分词的完成式,相当于“Although he has achieved considerable success as an artist”。

As can be seen in the cartoon, the young couple educate their child in different ways. Father educates their child with a ruler but Mother with a bar of chocolate. What is illustrated in the picture is that Father is too hard on their child while Mother spoils him. They adopt strikingly inconsistent methods, which makes their child confused.
I subscribe to neither of their education methods. If we always give children severe punishment, they will become nervous and lack selfconfidence or become violent and aggressive, following in the father's footsteps. If we always love children too much, t hey will turn out to be selfcentered and dependent, tending to do whatever they want to.
So far as I am concerned, it is better to use appropriate methods based on children's individual personalities. Since praise and criticism both play vital roles in children's education, it is essential that parents should try to maintain the balance between love and strictness. Only in this way can children benefit from proper family education and achieve allround development.。
