only polar bear前用定冠词,表示特指,故填the。
63. (should) be moved

Dear Peter,
You want to know which is more important, study and
or
exercise. There exist two different
point points on this question. In the eyes of some people, students are supposing
supposed
to concentrate on
their studies, and usually a good student is very
too
busy studying to spare any time doing much
sport. By
On the contrary, the others regard exercise as
an
∧
inseparable part of the students’ daily
life.
I agree with the latter. However excellently
excellent
your academic record is, you can’t enjoy a
fantastic life without a sound body. Comparing
Compared
with a sound body, all wonderful things we are
going after them aren’t important. What’s more, athletic performance played
plays
a more and more important role in student evaluation.
Yours,
Li Ming
be supposed to do sth"应该做某事"。
故用
supposed。
too +形容词+ to do sth"太……而不能做某事"。
第五处:By→On 考查固定短语。
on the contrary "正相反",是固定短语。

去them。
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to tell you something about our discussion on the topic "Whether we should hold a party on Christmas Eve".
Sixty percent students think that celebrating Christmas Day is a fashionable activity. It helps us not only to release studying pressure but also to gain more knowledge about foreign culture. However, the others say that it’s foolish for Chinese people to celebrate foreign festivals, which will greatly affect people’s feelings on our own traditional festivals. What’s more, holding a party will waste the time and affect our study.
As for me, I don’t think that holding a party is a bad thing. But we should pay more attention to our traditional festivals, because they are part of the root of our Chinese culture.
Best wishes!
Yours,
Li Hua

W: Yes, it’s nine-fifteen.
Text 1
W: Will you come to my birthday party this weekend?
M: I’d love to, but I have to meet a friend from Beijing at the railway station.
Text 2
M: Would you tell me what time it is? I’m going to meet my cousin at the station at 9:15.
W: It’s five minutes to nine by my watch.
Text 3
M: How will you be traveling, Margaret?
W: By air, Mr. Hill. I hate sea journeys. I’m always seasick!
Text 4
M: Are we supposed to leave at 7:35?
W: I’m not sure. All I remember is that the flight number is 737.
Text 5
M: Would you like anything else?
W: No, thanks. That’s all I need.
M: Would you like us to deliver these this afternoon?
W: Oh, yes, please. That would be lovely.
Text 6
M: Mondays are terrible. Our timetable is filled with difficult subjects.
W: Like what?
M: Well, like English, French, geography and biology in the morning, followed by math in the afternoon.
W: What’s your favorite day of the week?
M: Oh, Wednesday without doubt. We have an easy morning: just art and music followed by sport all afternoon.
W: Maybe you’re right. But I like Friday best. Miss Lin is so popular that each of us like her writing class.
Text 7
W: Hello, John. How are you feeling now?
M: Awful.
W: Shall I open the window? It’s a lovely day.
M: No, thank you, Susan. I’m cold.
W: Shall I put the fire on?
M: Yes, please. Will you turn it up high?
W: Are you sure? It’s very warm here.
M: I feel very cold. Will you get me another blanket, please?
W: Here you are. Shall I put it on the bed?
M: No. Put it round my shoulders, please.
W: Achoo!
M: What’s the matter, Susan?
W: Will you pass me some tissue paper, please?
Text 8
M: I can’t believe you’re still driving around in this piece of junk.
W: I can’t afford to buy a new car.
M: I’ll bet you can’t afford not to buy a new car.
W: What do you mean by that?
M: Have you ever kept a record of how much you spend to keep this car running?
W: Well, no. But I’m sure that the costs of keeping the car running are not as much as monthly payment would be.
M: Have you thought about losses you pay from the days you have missed work because this thing won’t start?
W: It can’t have been that much.
M: Besides this, you have to take a taxi or a bus when your car refuses to work. The pulling of your car to the garage will also cost you money.
W: All right. You have proved your point, but have you seen how much new cars cost these days? M: You don’t have to buy a new car.
W: Sure, I could buy a used car, but how could I be certain I won’t get another junk? You know what used-car salespeople are like.
Text 9
W: What do you think of studying abroad?
M: I think it’s a great idea. Studying abroad will offer you plenty of new opportunities. Are you planning on going abroad?
W: Yes, I hope so. I am studying for my IELTS right now.
M: Which country do you want to go to?
W: I’d like to study in the UK, but it’s really expensive.
M: Have you applied to any schools there?
W: Yes, I received a conditional offer from Oxford University a few days ago.
M: Congratulations! That’s excellent news. What do you have to do to get an unconditional offer? W: I have to get an IELTS score of 7.5 overall. Do you think I can do that?
M: If you study hard, I don’t see why you shouldn’t. Have you received any other offers?
W: I was also accepted into Yale University and Sydney University.
M: If you’re worried about money, the cost of living is lowest in America. However, if you go to Oxford University, you’ll probably be able to get any job you want in the future.
W: I just can’t decide where to go. It’s not an easy decision to make.
M: If I were you, I’d apply for some scholarships before I decide. Whatever you do, I know you’ll succeed.
Text 10
W: Let me start out by giving you an example. Arden Textile is a company that makes sports clothes. The company was started in 1906, and is still owned by Arden family. In December 2003, a terrible fire destroyed the company’s largest factory, and the company had to close. More than 1,000 workers lost their jobs. The company’s insurance paid for the loss. The Arden family talked about building a new factory overseas, where costs are lower. But instead they decided to rebuild the factory. During the rebuilding, the company gave all the workers their regular pay. This caused great financial problems for the company, and they almost went out of business.
Did the company do the right thing? Many people said yes, because Arden Textile helped their employees. The company’s president was on many TV programmes, and received an award from the Prime Minister. But other people said no. They said that the main responsibility of a business is to make profits, and that’s how it helps society the most. We’ll discuss this case in more detail next time. Your reading assignment is from Page 5 to 27 in your textbook.。
