中元节(中国的鬼节)的英文介绍
中元节的英文介绍Much like Western culture's Halloween, some Eastern cultures celebrate a Fall festival where they believe the gates of hell are thrown open, releasing hungry ghosts to wander the earth in search of food and taking revenge upon those who wronged them in life. This month-long festival is known as the Hungry Ghost Festival and takes place during the 7th lunar month. 农历正月Unlike other celebrations of the dead in Eastern cultures that seek to honor dead ancestors, the Hungry Ghost Festival seeks to pacify 安慰the hungry ghosts, the ghosts of strangers and the un-cared-for dead. These are the ghosts of those who died by their own hands, by accidents, by drowning or hanging who have been denied entry into heaven. Angry because they are forced to dwell in hell without food or comfort, when released, they search for souls to take their place in misery. To Taoists(道教徒)and Buddhists(佛教徒), these evil spirits are not to be taken lightly. They are most active at night and can take many forms including: snakes, moths(蛾), birds, foxes, wolves, and tigers. They can even appear as beautiful men or women to seduce the living. When they possess an individual by entering the body they cause illness and mental disorders.Throughout this month, to keep the angry spirits amused, people stage street operas and other forms of public entertainment. In the past, people did not view the street operas as they were performed only for ghosts. Other rituals(典礼,仪式)are performed to help souls enter into heaven. Taoists do their best to avoid late nights away from these amusements and rituals to steer clear of the evil spirits. To appease these wandering spirits, Buddhists and Taoists burn bundles of joss sticks, paper hell money, food, and other offerings by the roadside. Communities along rivers or near the sea float lanterns in the shape of the lotus or carved from fruit or gourds in the water to guide them away from their homes. They follow the lanterns from the river bank or sea shore till they can no longer be seen. This is done to redeem the soul of those who died by drowning. The most important days of this month are the 14th and 15th, the days of the great feasts. On the 14th, a great feast would be held to honor family ancestors. Prayers and offerings would be made at family altars. On the following night, the 15th, they would feast for the hungry ghosts. Held outside under the full moon, these feasts feed the evil spirits so that they will leave the living alone and bribe(贿赂)the ancestors for luck with money and the harvest.农历的七月十五日是什么日子?In Chinese tradition, the fifteenth day of the seventh month in the lunar calendar is called Ghost Day and the sev enth month in general is regarded as the Ghost Month, in wh ich ghosts and spirits, including those of the deceased anc estors, come out from the lower realm。
鬼节英文介绍
Ghost Festival 鬼节中英文介绍Just as Halloween is for Americans, the “Hungry Ghost Festival” is for Chinese. Ghost Festival is one of Chinese traditional occasions, which is taken very seriously by the Chinese. This festival usually falls on the15th day of the 7th month of the lunar calendar. The Ghost Festival, some places say the Hungry Ghost Festival, is also called Half July (Lunar), Ullambana, which is closely related to Buddhism, and zhongyuan jie which is theTaoism saying and Folk Belief.
It is believed by the Chinese that the dead become ghosts roaming between Heaven and Earth unless they have descendants to care for them during the Ghost Festival. During this month, the gates of hell are opened to free the hungry ghosts who then wander to seek food on Earth. Some even think that the ghosts would seek revenge on those who had wronged them in their lives. However, more people remember their ancestors on this day. The Ghost Festival becomes a time for remembering the importance of filial piety. The reason why the Chinese celebrate this festival is to remember their dead family members and pay tribute to them. They also feel that offering food to the deceased appeases them and wards off bad luck. People now release river lights as an important activity during this time, since it is said that river light can comfort and warm the homeless ghosts. In some areas, visitors may also see small roadside fires, where believes burn paper money and other offerings to appease the restless spirits who have temporarilybeen released from Hades.中国人认为除非一个人有子孙后代能够在他死后在鬼节这天悼念他们,否则人死后会变成鬼魂在天地之间游荡。
Halloween
HalloweenHalloween is a yearly celebration observed in many countries on 31 October, the eve of the Western Christian feast of All Hallows' Day. It is an important part of western countries and becomes very famous.OriginIn fact it is a day for ghost. Throughout the ancient history, people believed the spirit of a dead person resided in the underworld. In Chinese tradition, the fifteenth day of the seventh month in the lunar calendar is called Ghost Day, on which ghosts and spirits, including those of the deceased ancestors will come out from the lower realm. Like Chinese people, Celts believed that the border between this world and the otherworld became thin on that day; because animals and plants were dying, it allowed the dead to reach back through the veil that separated them from the living. The ancient Celts believed that wearing masks would ward off evil spirits. That is the origin for people to pretend the ghost or others on Halloween.Today's Halloween customs are also thought to have been influenced by Christ. Pope Gregory III designated November 1st All Saints' Day, a time to honor saints and martyrs in 8th century. Many people believe the Pope was attempting to replace the Celtic festival of the dead with a Christian holiday. And the Catholic Church made November 2nd All Souls' Day, a day to honor the dead in 10th century. The three Catholic celebrations, the eve of All Saints', All Saints', and All Souls', were called Hallowmas. In 1846, the Irish Potato Famine brings Irish Catholics to America, along with their Halloween traditions.DecorationPeople always celebrate festivals with lights. On Chinese Ghost Festival, people float lit lanterns along the rivers. This practice is called "floating river lanterns". And the jack-o-lantern is the symbol of Halloween for western country. The American tradition of carving pumpkins is recorded in 1837 and was originally associated with harvest time in general, not becoming specifically associated with Halloween until the mid-to-late 19th century. Jack-o-lantern is associated with Halloween firstly in 1866. There’s a story about Jack, an Irishman. On route home after a night's drinking, Jack encounters the Devil and tricks him into climbing a tree. Jack etches the sign of the cross into the bark, thus trapping the Devil. Jack strikes a bargain that Satan can never bring away his soul. Because of his life of sin, drink, and mendacity, Jack is refused entry to heaven after he dies. Keeping his promise, the Devil refuses to let Jack into hell and throws a live coal straight from the fires of hell at him. So Jack places the coal in a hollowed out turnip to stop it from going out, since which time Jack and his lantern have been roaming looking for a place to rest.Nowadays, every autumn, when the vegetables are ready to eat, children pick the large orange pumpkins. Then they cut faces in the pumpkins and put a burning candle inside in order to make it like a person looking out of the pumpkin. It becomes the most popular and even the necessary decoration in Halloween.ActivityDressing up in costumes is one of the most popular Halloween customs, especially for children. According to tradition, people would dress up in costumes to frighten the spirits away. It is quitedifferent from Chinese Ghost festival. According to tradition, people will burn some paper money (a kind of paper that people believe it can be the money in the underworld). It is living people send things to dead family to cherish the memory to their family seriously. Oppositely, in western country, people send candies to children to celebrate the day.Dressing up in costumes and going "guising" was prevalent in Ireland and Scotland at Halloween by the late 19th century. And it became popular for Halloween parties in the US in the early 20th century. No matter children or adults, everybody enjoys it. While the first reference to "guising" in North America occurs in 1911, another reference to ritual begging on Halloween appears, place unknown, in 1915, with a third reference in Chicago in 1920. The first mass-produced Halloween costumes appeared in stores in the 1930s. Popular Halloween costumes include vampires, ghosts and werewolves. Witches are also popular Halloween characters that are thought to have magical powers. Children in these special clothes will play tricks. Trick or Treating is a modern typical one in Halloween custom. Children go from house to house, asking for treats like candy or toys. If they don't get any treats, they might play a trick on the owners of the house.Nowadays, Halloween is also a shopping festival. It is a day creates annual all citizens’ carnival.。

The Ghost Festival, also known as the Hungry Ghost Festival, is a traditional Chinese festival and holiday celebrated by Chinese in many countries. In the Chinese calendar (a lunisolar calendar), the Ghost Festival is on the 15th night of the seventh lunar month (14th in southern China). In Chinese tradition, the fifteenth day of the seventh month in the lunar calendar is called Ghost Day and the seventh month in general is regarded as the Ghost Month (鬼月), in which ghosts and spirits, including those of the deceased ancestors, come out from the lower realm. Distinct from both the Qingming Festival (in Spring) and Chung Yeung Festival (in Autumn) in which living descendants pay homage to their deceased ancestors, on Ghost Day, the deceased are believed to visit the living. On the fifteenth day the realms of Heaven and Hell and the realm of the living are open and both Taoists and Buddhists would perform rituals to transmute and absolve the sufferings of the deceased. Intrinsic to the Ghost Month is ancestor worship, where traditionally the filial piety of descendants extends to their ancestors even after their deaths. Activities during the month would include preparing ritualistic food offerings, burning incense, and burning joss paper, a papier-mché form of material items such as clothes, gold and other fine goods for the visiting spirits of the ancestors. Elaborate meals (often vegetarian meals)would be served with empty seats for each of the deceased in the family treating the deceased as if they are still living. Ancestor worship is what distinguishes Qingming Festival from Ghost Festival because the latter includes paying respects to all deceased, including the same and younger generations, while the former only includes older generations. Other festivities may include, buying and releasing miniature paper boats and lanterns on water, which signifies giving directions to the lost ghosts and spirits of the ancestors and other deities. The Ghost Festival is celebrated during the seventh month of the Chinese calendar. It also falls at the same time as a full moon, the new season, the fall harvest, the peak of Buddhist monastic asceticism, the rebirth of ancestors, and the assembly of the local community. During this month, the gates of hell are opened up and ghosts are free to roam the earth where they seek food and entertainment. These ghosts are believed to be ancestors of those who forgot to pay tribute to them after they died, or those who were never given a proper ritual send-off. They have long needle-thin necks because they have not been fed by their family, or as a punishment so that they are unable to swallow. Family members offer prayers to their deceased relatives, offer food and drink and burn hell bank notes and other forms of joss paper. Joss paper items are believed to have value in the afterlife, considered to be very similar in some aspects to the material world, People burn paper houses, cars, servants and televisions to please the ghosts. Families also pay tribute to other unknown wandering ghosts so that these homeless souls do not intrude on their lives and bring misfortune. A large feast is held for the ghosts on the fourteenth day of the seventh month, when people brings samples of food and places them on an offeringtable to please the ghosts and ward off bad luck.In some East Asian countries today, live performances are held and everyone is invited to attend. The first row of seats are always empty as this is where the ghosts sit. The shows are always put on at night and at high volumes as the sound is believed to attract and please the ghosts. Some shows include Chinese opera, dramas, and in some areas, even burlesque shows. These acts are better known as "Merry-making".For rituals, Buddhists and Taoists hold ceremonies to relieve ghosts from suffering, many of them holding ceremonies in the afternoon or at night (as it is believed that the ghosts are released from hell when the sun sets). Altars are built for the deceased and priests and monks alike perform rituals for the benefit of ghosts. Monks and priests often throw rice or other small foods into the air in all directions to distribute them to the ghosts.During the evening, incense is burnt in front of the doors households. Incense stands for prosperity in Chinese culture, so families believe that there is more prosperity in burning more incense.[4]During the festival, some shops are closed as they want to leave the streets open for the ghosts. In the middle of each street stands an altar of incense with fresh fruit and sacrifices displayed on it.Fourteen days after the festival, to make sure all the hungry ghosts find their way back to hell, people flow water lanterns and set them outside their houses (a practice that can be found amongst the Japanese during Obon). These lanterns are made by setting a lotus flower-shaped lantern on a paper boat. The lanterns are used to direct the ghosts back to the underworld, and when they go out, it symbolizes that they have found their way back.。
鬼节作文 the chinese ghost festival
The Chinese Ghost FestivalGroup 3 The Chinese Ghost Festival , China’s traditional festival, is on the 15th night of the seventh lunar month. In Chinese tradition, the fifteenth day of the seventh month in the lunar calendar is called Ghost Day and the seventh month in general is regarded as the Ghost Month. On Ghost Day, the deceased are believed to visit the living. Here we can see some pictures about the Chinese Ghost Festival. In the first picture, we see that some people burn something, that’s joss paper, which is the same as money but only can be used in the sky. Ok, there is a woman floating the river lanterns for lighting the deceased’s road. In some places, like Taiwan, people will write the deceased’s name on the lantern in case that it may make mistakes because there are so many lanterns on the river. Absolutely necessary is incense ,joss paper and dark, all of these should be prepared in advance. And I hear about that in Shaoxing people will stay at home all the time at that night, this phenomenon is called hide ghost.Maybe here some classmates know the festival while others don’t have a clear concept about it. So , in order to help us know more about the Chinese Ghost Festival, first I’ll interview some classmates. For myself, I still remain a clear memory about the Chinese Ghost Festival. On that day, my grandma will prepare lots of food but at last only nine dishes are requested to put on the dinner table. Especially , the chicken, fish, tofu and bean sprouts are the necessary food. More importantly, the fish’s head must be facing the inside of the house. So anyone here know why fish and bean sprouts must be prepared? Some people believe that fish represent the wealth, and making the fish’s head toward the inside of the house so that money will come to the house. Another old saying is that, on the Ghost Festival, the living convey the mission via the fish. And the bean sprouts ,in Chinese , is called 豆芽菜,which is also on be half of the germination of wealth.Besides, it also has special requirements on the dinner table and chairs. Before eating, no one is admitted to attach the table and chairs , because there seems to be no one sit at the table but actually it is prepared for the deceased, so these behaviors are regarded as irreverent to the ancestors. At the end of the ceremony, every member in the home especially children are supposed to bow down and say something to bless the whole home. It’s said that if you do so , then, the ancestors will bless all of your home. However it’s regrettable that nowadays, more and more people look down on the festival on account of the modern environment, the lower awareness of people and so on. But I think the Chinese Ghost Festival as a part of traditional festival is as important as spring festival and double ninth day, we should take our responserbility to inheritance it and rich Chinese traditional culture.Above all, I think all of you may know better about the Chinese Ghost Festival, and next time when you at home celebrate the festival, you can pay more attention to your hometown’s customs. That’s all my speech, thank you for your listening!。

Before that, I only knew that on Halloween, children could dress up differently and knock on the door for candy at night, but I didn"t know who to knock on. On Halloween night, I finallyfound that as long as the front light of the house is on, or there are Halloween decorations such as pumpkins at the door, it means that children are welcome to ask for candy. On that day, groups of children with various costumes shuttled through the dark streets, showing a happy and strange atmosphere. Usually, neighbors who don"t communicate with each other will open their doors and prepare a large bowl of candy to give to children on Halloween. When night fell, the children couldn"t wait to put on colorful make-up clothes, put on strange masks, put on a "jack lamp" and ran out to play. The most popular game on Halloween is "bite the apple". During the game, people let the apples float in a basin full of water, and then let the children bite the apples with their mouths without hands. Whoever bites first is the winner. The children were completely immersed in joy. The most interesting thing is that we infiltrate English teaching into the party, learn English words related to Halloween on site, learn Halloween blessings, and get a candy if you say it right. This form of learning allows children to learn English unconsciously.Thank you! 10.万圣节演讲稿英文版hello everyone! On Halloween, children wear special clothes and masks. Many children play a game called "trick or treat". They knocked on the door of their neighbor"s house and shouted, "if you don"t entertain, you"ll spoil it.". Neighbors usually entertain them with candy. If children don"t get candy, they may play tricks on their neighbors. Some people also use big orange pumpkins to make lights. They carve the shapes of eyes, nose and fangs on the pumpkins. Put the lights in, and the lights come out from the eyes, nose and fangs. This evening, the teacher said that the school would hold a Halloween party. When we got the news, everyone was happy and elated. Laughter echoed in the classroom for a long time.In the evening, the Halloween party began. As soon as the bell rang, everyone rushed downstairs like an arrow. When we arrived at the party venue, the foreign teachers had already prepared, with bags of sugar in their hands. We went over and shouted, "trick or treat."This kind of party is really interesting. 快乐的万圣节英语作文篇1On October 31st, dozens of children dressed in costumes(节日服装)knock on their neighbors’ doors and yell "Trick or Treat" when the door opens. Pirates and princesses, ghosts and popular heroes of the day all hold bags open to catch the candy or other goodies that the neighbors drop in. As they give each child a treat the neighbors exclaim over the costumes and try to guess who is under the masks.Since the 800’s November 1st is a religious holiday known as All Saints’ Day(万圣节). The Mass that was said on this day was called Allhallowmas. The evening before became known as All Hakkiw e’en, or Halloween. Like some other American celebrations, its origins lie in both pre-Christian and Christian customs.October 31 st was the eve of the Celtic(凯尔特人的)new year. The Celts were the ancestors of the present-day Irish, Welsh and Scottish people. On this day ghosts walked and mingled with the living, or so the Celts thought. The townspeople baked food all that day and when night fell they dressed up and tried to resemble the souls of the dead. Hoping that the ghosts would leave peacefully before midnight of the new year.Much later, when Christianity spread throughout Ireland and October 31 was no longer the last day of the year, Halloweenbecame a celebration mostly for children. "Ghosts" went from door to door asking for treats, or else a trick would be played on the owners of the house. When millions of Irish people immigrated to the United States in the 1840s the tradition came with them.Today’ school dances and neighborhood parties called "block parties" are popular among young and old alike. More and more adults celebrate Halloween. They dress up like historical or political figures and goto masquerade parties(化妆舞会). In larger cities, costumed children and their parents gather at shopping malls early in the evening. Stores and businesses give parties with games and treats for the children.Teenagers enjoy costume dances at their schools and the more outrageous the costume the better!Certain pranks(恶作剧)such as soaping car windows and tipping over garbage cans are expected. But partying and pranks are not the only things that Halloweeners enjoy doing. Some collect money to buy food and medicine for needy children around the world.Symbols of HalloweenHalloween originated as a celebration connected with evil spirits. Witches flying on broomsticks with black cats, ghosts, goblins(小精灵)and skeletons have all evolved as symbols of Halloween. They are popular trick-or-treat costumes and decorations for greeting cards and windows. Black is one of the traditional Halloween colors, probably because Halloween festivals and traditions took place at night. In the weeks before October 31, Americans decorate windows of houses and schools with silhouettes(轮廓)of witches and black cats.Pumpkins are also a symbol of Halloween. The pumpkin is anorange-colored squash, and orange has become the other traditional Halloween color. Carving pumpkins into jack- o’lanterns is a Halloween custom also dating back to Ireland. A legend grew up about a man named Jack who was so stingy(吝啬的)that he was not allowed into heaven when he died, because he was a miser(吝啬鬼). He couldn’t enter hell either because he had played jokes on the devil. As a result, Jack had to walk the earth with his lantern until Judgement Day(审判日). The Irish people carved scary faces out of turnips(芜菁根), beets(甜菜根)or potatoes representing "Jack of the Lantern," or Jack-o’lantern. When the Irish brought their customs to the United States, they carved faces on pumpkins because in the autumn they were more plentiful than turnips. Today jack-o’-lanterns in the windows of a house on Halloween night let costumed children know that there are goodies(糖果)waiting if they knock and say "Trick or Treat!"快乐的万圣节英语作文篇2Friday night, my classmates and I went to the bond for halloween.Stand in the gate of the bond, there is a huge, scary ghost to meet us, as if entered to the devil in hell. Some of the students in the school have become a ghost, but I do not like them, I'm dressed as a witch.Inside the most fun is Sigui reincarnation, I play with my classmates, first of all with his left hand touch hold of the outer part of the ear, with the right hand twist her nose, bent down, place turn three times, the teacher put potato chips into the nose, with his tongue to eat potato chips. Family members offer prayers to their deceased relatives and burn joss paper. The afterlife is very similar in some aspects to the material world. People would also burn other things such as paper houses, cars, servants and televisions to please the ghosts. Those things would provide comfort to the ancestors in the afterlife.
• However, current Ghost Day Ceremony is not full of gloomy atmosphere in its form, remaining only enjoyable sentiment in spite of the existing original meaning.
Chinese Ghost Festival
VS
Halloween
What is Chinese Ghost Festival?
Much like Western culture's Halloween, some Eastern cultures celebrate a Fall festival where they believe the gates of hell are thrown open, releasing hungry ghosts to wander the earth in search of food and taking revenge upon those who wronged them in life. In Chinese tradition, this month-long festival is known as the Hungry Ghost Festival and the 15th day of the 7th month in the Chinese lunar calendar is called Zhongyuan Festival .
