人教版高中英语选修8Unit3《Inventorsandinventions》word教案【美文阅读】Wireless charging for mobile phones by 2020近日,日本的富士通公司宣布,他们开发出了一套能为手机等便携式电子设备无线充电的系统。

Fujitsu,a Japanese technology company, has created a system capable of simultaneously(同时地) charging many portable electronic devices such as mobile phones, digital cameras and laptops without the need for cable(电缆)connections.Electric car users may also eventually be able to charge their vehicles wirelessly using the same technology according to Fujitsu, which displayed a model system at an Institute of Electronics,Information and Communication Engineers conference.Claiming to be the world's first of its kind, the technology works on the basis of the transmission of electricity using magnetic(磁的)fields between the charger and the electronic device. The system makes it possible to charge wirelessly at distances of up to several meters, and Fujitsu aims to provide public “charging spots” on the streets in order to provide easy charging day and night.Scientists at Fujitsu Laboratories are planning to commercially sell products combining the new wireless charging system as early as 2020.Mobile phone users in Japan can currently charge their batteries using portable battery devicesavailable at most train stations and convenience stores-although phone companies warn this can damage the phones. The new system invented by Fujitsu, however,is much more advanced and represents the next generation of portable recharging systems using flexible wireless technology. The company added,“We are also looking at applying the results of thiswork to fields other than portable electronics, including power transmission between circuit boards(电路板) or computer chips, and providing mobile charging systems for electric cars.”【诱思导学】1.How does the wireless charging technology work?____________________________________________________________________________________________【答案】It works on the basis of the transmission of electricity using magnetic fields between the charger and the electronic device.2.When can consumers probably buy products using the new wireless charging system?______________________________________________【答案】

Cell-phones are part of a growing mountain of electronic waste like computers and personal digital assistants. The electronic waste stream is increasing threetimes faster than traditional garbage as a whole.Electronic devices contain valuable metals such as gold and silver. A Swiss study reported that while the weight of electronic goods represented by precious metals was relatively small in comparison to total waste, the concentration (含量) of gold and other precious metals was higher in So-called e-waste than in naturally occurring minerals.Electronic wastes also contain many poisonous metals. Even when the machines are recycled and the harmful metals removed, the recycling process often is carried out in poor countries, in practically uncontrolled ways which allow many poisonous substances to escape into the environment.Creating products out of raw materials creates much more waste material, up to 100 times more, than the material contained in the finished products. Consider again the cell-phone, and imagine the mines that produced those metals, the factories needed to make the box and packaging(包装) it came in. Many wastes produced in the producing process are harmful as well. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency notes that most waste is dangerous in that “the production, distribution, and use of products — as well as management of the resulting waste — all result in greenhouse gas release.” Individuals can reduce their contribution by creating less waste at the start — for instance, buying reusable products and recycling. In many countries the concept of extended producer responsibility is being considered or has been put in place as an incentive (动机) for reducing waste. If producers are required to take back packaging they use to sell their products, would they reduce the packaging in the first place?Governments’ incentive to require producers to take responsibility for the packaging they produce is usually based on money. Why, they ask, should cities or towns be responsible for paying to deal with the bubble wrap (气泡垫) that encased your television? From the governments’point of view, a primary goal of laws requiring extended producer responsibility is to transfer both the costs and the physical responsibility of waste management from the government and tax-payers back to theproducers.58.By mentioning the Swiss study, the author intends to tell us that _________ .A. the weight of e-goods is rather smallB. E-waste deserves to be made good use ofC. natural minerals contain more precious metalsD. the percentage of precious metals is heavy in e-waste59.The responsibility of e-waste treatment should be extended _________ .A. from producers to governmentsB. from governments to producersC. from individuals to distributorsD. from distributors to governments60. What does the passage mainly talk about?A. The increase in e-waste.B. The creation of e-waste.C. The seriousness of e-waste.D. The management of e-waste.。

Ask some students to show their work.A sample version:Leonardo da Vinci is honored by people not only as a successful painter but a great inventor. He was born in a poor family but he had such a gift for painting that he was accepted by a famous painter from Florence to develop his drawing skills. He learnt a lot about the design and structure of various machines and developed a new attitude towards machines, which made it possible for him to produce more drawings of mechanical ideas and create perfect working machines. Da Vinci was such a talented man that he was skilled in almost every field he turned his attention to.Step ⅡPre-writingT: In the listening period, we have known something about James Dyson and his Company. Do you rememberS1: Yes. I have known James Dyson is a famous British Inventor who has made great inventions.T: Well, would you like to get a job in his company in the future? Why?S2: Sure. I think it will be pleasant and worthwhile for us young people to have a chance to go abroad and work in a famous company like this. I’m sure both my English and my work experience can be greatly improved if I am lucky enough to work there. T: If there is a job of an assistant in his company, what will you do in order to get it?S3: I will first make a phone call to the personnel manager and ask for as much information as possible so as to get well prepared for the job interview. In the letter to the company I would like to list all my skills, experiences and abilities in all aspects and try my best to get the job.Step ⅢWritingT: Next, please write a letter to apply for the job as an assistant, please read the instructions in the writing part on page 27 first.A sample version:Dear Mr Dyson,I would like to apply to become an assistant in your company. As a child I often accompanied my father to his small coin shop and spent hours watching him work. When I grew up, I sometimes set up displays, waited on customers, and even balanced the books. This experience instilled in me the desire to own and manage my own business someday, yet I understand that the business world today is more complex. This complexity requires more education, and with that in mind, I am applying to work in your company to gain more experience and learn more about business. In addition to my helping out in my father’s business, I have had numerous other work experiences that further enhance my qualifications for this job. My resume enumerates the various positions I have held at Kerasotes Theaters, Chili’s restaurants, and Indiana University’s new Student Recreational Sports Center (SRSC), and what all of these positions have in common is an emphasis on serving the public effectively. Further, as an assistant manager at the Showplace 11 and a staff coordinator at the SRSC, I have gained valuable expertise in managing employees and creating work schedules. Both of these positions have allowed me to develop my sales and personal skills, which are extremely important in an increasingly service-driven marketplace Also, I recently participated in an internship program for academic credit with the Eli Lilly Corporation in the personnel division. As a management intern, I was able to watch the workings of a major corporation up close and would like the opportunity to combine my experiences with the theoretical background available in the MBA program at IUB, with its emphasis on computers, marketing and human resources. My successful internship is one element of my overall academic success as an undergraduate at IUB, yet I have also made time for a variety of extracurricular activities, including working for my sorority and competing in intramural basketball matches. My positive experiences here have resulted in my desire to work in your company; furthermore, continuing my education here would allow me to make important business contacts, with the career goal of opening my own computer consulting firm in the near future.I would be grateful if you would consider employing me in your company.Yours sincerely,Li HuaStep ⅣWRITING TASKT: Look at the writing task on page 68, read the instructions and write an entry for an encyclopedia.A sample version:The abacus is typically constructed of various types of hardwoods and comes in various sizes. The frame of the abacus has a series of vertical rods on which a number of wooden beads are allowed to slide freely. A horizontal beam separates the frame into two sections, known as the upper deck and the lower deck. The standard abacus can be used to perform addition, subtraction, division and multiplication. The abacus can also be used to extract square-roots and cubic roots. The abacus is prepared for use by placing it flat on a table or one’s lap and pushing all the beads on both the upper and lower decks away from the beam. The beads are manipulated with either the index finger or the thumb of one hand. Each bead in the upper deck has a value of 5; each bead in the lower deck has a value of 1. Beads are considered counted, when moved towards the beam that separates the two decks. After 5 beads are counted in the lower deck, the result is “carried” to the upper deck; after both beads in the upper deck are counted, the result (10) is then carried to the left-most adjacent column. The right-most column is the ones column; the next adjacent to the left is the tens column; the next adjacent to the left is the hundreds column, and so on. Floating point calculations are performed by designating a space between 2 columns as the decimal-point and all the rows to the right of that space represent fractional portions while all the rows to the left represent whole number digits. The abacus is one of many counting devices invented to help count large numbers. The earliest counting device was the human hand and its fingers. Then, as larger quantities (larger than ten human-fingers could represent) were counted, various natural items like pebbles and twigs were used to help count. Merchants who traded goods not only needed a way to count goods they bought and sold, but also to calculate the cost of those goods. Until numbers were invented, counting devices were used to make everyday calculations.Step ⅤHomeworkAsk the students to summarize what they have learnt in the unit and prepare for the next unit.。

Crowded第三节、阅读理解(2017届湖北省联考)My daughter went to see The Wild One recently and she commented that Marlon Brando was wearing je ans so long ago. Of course he helped set the trend, so that got me thinking about the link between films and trends in fashion. Fashion and films have gone hand in hand for long. The Wild One is a good example: it appeared in 1954, starring Brando. Dressed in a black leather motorcycle jacket, leather cap and jeans, he created a look which is still considered “cool” today. Everyone from Madonna to middle-aged men is seen wearing the classic leather motorcycle jacket.Another strong influence on fashion trends was Breakfast at Tiffany’s, starringAudrey Hepburn. She made famous the simple black dress that looks perfect at either a cocktail party or just standing around an expensive department store like Tiffany’s with a pastry and coffee in your hand, as Audrey Hepburn does in the film. She looks so elegant, wearing simple but beautiful dresses, big dark glasses and a string of pearls around her neck. Audrey Hepburn still influences women’s fashion with her “Tiffany’s look”.In more modern times, the film star Uma Thurman created a major fashion trend when she appeared in the film Pulp Fiction, made in 1994. Her style was very simple. Her black trousers, crisp white shirt and hair style was copied by women in the world.Influencing fashion trends can often be about timing. The movie Memoirs of a Geisha came just in time to start a trend in Japanese fashion. It started the Chinese actress Zhang Ziyi, who wore beautiful silk kimonos(和服), and it won an Oscar for Costume Design. Many travel companies picked up on the trend and ran “geisha trips”to Japan. The film has also led to a regained interest in kimonos. It is now quite common to see young Japanese women wearing kimonos not just on traditional occasions, but at various social events. The fashion is also beginning to spread to western countries.28. What is the best title of the passage?A. Films and fashion.B. Stars’ fashion.C. Influential films.D. Film cultures.29. Who will people associate Madonna wearing the leather motorcycle jacket with?A. Zhang Ziyi.B. Audrey Hepburn.C. Uma Thurman.D. Marlon Brando.30. What is implied in the film Breakfast in Tiffany’s according to the passage?A. One can be active by wearing black.B. One can be elegant by wearing simply.C. One can be famous by looking perfect.D. One can be stylish by eating at Tiffany’s.31. What does the film Memoirs of a Geisha lead to?A. The popularity of the Chinese actress.B. The worldwide reading of Geisha stories.C. The recovery of interest in kimonos.D. The “geisha trips” to social events.。

Supported by the Ladies’ Association in London for the promotion of female education in India and the East, she immediately took up the work of starting a girls’ school for Chinese girls, which was soon followed by the opening of a boys’ school.Mrs. Gutzlaff’s comprador(买办) happened to come from my village and was actually my father’s friend and neighbor. It was through him that my parents heard about Mrs. Gutzlaff’s school and it was doubtlessly through his influence and means that my father got me admitted into the school. It has always been a mystery to me why my parents should put me into a foreign school, instead of a traditional Confucian school, where my big brother was placed. Most certainly such a step would have been more suitable for Chinese public opinion, taste, and the wants of the country, than to allow me to attend an English school. Moreover, a Chinese belief is the only avenue in China that leads to political promotion, influence, power and wealth. I can only guess that as foreign communication with China was just beginning to grow, my parents hoped that it might be worthwhile to put one of their sons to learning English. In this way he might become an interpreter and have a more advantageous position to enter the business and diplomatic world. I am wondering if that influenced my parentsbrought about in my later life, they were entirely left in the hands of God. 32. How was the author admitted to Mrs. Gutzlaff’s school?A. Through his father’s request.B. Through his father’s friend’s help.C. Through his own efforts to exams.D. Through Mrs. Gutzlaff’s influence.33. Why did the author’s parents put him into an English school?A. It met with Chinese public opinion.B. An English school was more influential.C. He could become a successful interpreter.D. Foreign trade with China was developing fast.34. What did the author think of his parents’ decision to put him into an English school?A. It was skeptical.B. It was wonderful.C. It was thoughtful.D. It was mysterious.35. What does the underlined word “sequences” in the last sentence probably mean ?A. Results.B. Order.C. Series.D. Progress.。
