The Rosetta Stone
❖ The Rosetta Stone is an ancient Egyptian granodiorite stele inscribed with a decree issued at Memphis in 196 BC on behalf of King Ptolemy V. The decree appears in three scripts: the upper text is Ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs, the middle portionDemotic script, and the lowest Ancient Greek. Because it presents essentially the same text in all three scripts (with some minor differences between them), it provided the key to the modern understanding of Egyptian hieroglyphs.
The Ballroom
❖ The Ballroom is the largest room at Buckingham Palace. It was added by Queen Victoria and is used for ceremonies such as investitures and state banquets. This picture dates from 1856. The polychrome colour scheme has been replaced by mainly white decoration with gold details and red upholstery
❖ The room is 21 metres (68 feet) long and divided into bays by giant Corinthian columns.
❖ The Blue Drawing Room was first known as the South Drawing Room, and its original decoration was a symphony of red, with porphyry scagliola columns, crimson velvet curtains and figured-silk wall hangings.
❖ The blue flock wallpaper now in the room was hung by Queen Mary in the early twentieth century, while the Corinthian columns were repainted to resemble onyx in the reign of Queen Victoria.
❖ This splendid dining room, modelled on the Ballroom at Buckingham Palace, can accommodate up to 120 for dinner, 160 in a theatre setting or up to 250 people as

The British Museum
❖ The British Museum was established in 1753, largely based on the collections of the physician and scientist Sir Hans Sloane. The museum first opened to the public on 15 January 1759 in Montagu House in Bloomsbury, on the site of the current museum building. Its expansion over the following two and a half centuries has resulted in the creation of several branch institutions, the first being the British Museum (Natural History) in South Kensington in 1887. Until 2019, when the British Library opened to the public, the British Museum was unique in that it housed both a national museum of antiquities and a national library in the same building. Its present chairman is Sir John Boyd and its director is Neil MacGregor.
❖ The room is used for receptions and audiences afor a number of formal photographic portraits of members of the Royal Family.
The Blue Drawing Room
❖ The Blue Drawing Room is one of the finest rooms in Buckingham Palace and one of the most magnificent examples of Georgian sumptuousness in decoration.
The State Dining Room
❖ This beautiful room is sumptuously furnished and lit with crystal chandeliers hung from a ceiling that is decorated with three shades of gold leaf. Silk lined walls are adorned with mirrors and paintings by Hondecoeter and Snyders that are rare and particularly striking.
❖ George IV intended this room as a ballroom, but it was superseded in that function by Queen Victoria’s Ballroom in the south-west wing of the Palace. Today guests gather here for drinks before large luncheon parties and grand State and diplomatic occasions.
3.The Big Ben
❖ Big Ben is the largest four-faced chiming clock and the thirdtallest free-standing clock tower in the world. It is a landmark of London.

❖ John Nash reserved one of his most original ceiling designs for the White Drawing Room whilst the impressive ‘pilasters’ incorporate a Garter Star and a winged motif which also appears on doors throughout the other State Rooms.

❖ The Victoria Tower was completed in May 1860 and designed to house Parliament’s historic records.

❖ Buckingham Palace is the official London residence and principal workplace of the British monarch.Located in the City of Westminster, the palace is a setting for state occasions and royal hospitality. It has been a focus for the British people at times of national rejoicing and crisis.
