These would emphasise the primacy of human activity in recent climate change and encourage discussion of mitigation measures. Most scientists and experts sharply dispute Hardy’s views. “They casually dismiss the career work of scholars and scientists as just another misguided opinion.” says Dan Quinn, senior communications strategist at the Texas Freedom Network, a non-profit group that monitors public education,“What millions of Texas kids learn in their public schools is determined too often by the political ideology of partisan board members, rather than facts and sound scholarship.”Such debate reflects fierce discussion discussions across the US and around the world, as researchers, policymakers, teachers and students step up demands for a greater focus on teaching about the facts of climate change in schools.A study last year by the National Center for Science Education, a non-profit group of scientists and teachers, looking at how state public schools across the country address climate change in science classes, gave barely half of US states a grade B+ or higher. Among the 10 worst performers were some of the most populous states, including Texas, which was given the lowest grade (F) and has a disproportionate influence because its textbooks are widely sold elsewhere.Glenn Branch, the centre’s deputy director, cautions that setting state-level science standards is only one limited benchmark in a country that decentralises decisions to local school boards. Even if a state is considered a high performer in its science standards, “that does not mean it will be taught”, he says.Another issue is that while climate change is well integrated into some subjects and at some ages — such as earth and space sciences in high schools — it is notas well represented in curricula for younger children and in subjects that are more widely taught, such as biology and chemistry. It is also less prominent in many social studies courses.Branch points out that, even if a growing number of official guidelines and textbooks reflect scientific consensus on climate change, unofficial educational materials that convey more slanted perspectives are being distributed to teachers. They include materials sponsored by libertarian think-tanks and energy industry associations.21. In paragraph 1, the weather in Texas is mentioned to答案:C. indicate the atmosphere at the board meeting22. What does Quinn think of Hardy?答案:B. She denies the value of scientific work.23. The study mentioned in Paragraph 5答案:A. Climate education is insufficient at state public school24. According to Branch, state-level science standards in the US答案:C. have limited influence25. It is implied in the last paragraph that climate change teaching in some schools答案:D. can be swayed by external forcesText 2Communities throughout the region have been attempting to regulate short-term rentals since sites like Airbnb took off in the 2010s. Now, with record-high home prices and historically low inventory, there’s an increased urgency in such regulation, particularly among those who worry that developers will come in and buy up swaths of housing to flip for a fortune on the short-term rental market. In New Hampshire, where the rental vacancy rate has dropped below 1 percent, housing advocates fear unchecked short-term rentals will put further pressure on an already strained market. The state Legislature recently voted against a bill that would’ve made it illegal for towns to create legislation restricting short-term rentals.“We are at a crisis level on the supply of rental housing, so anytime you’re taking the tool out of the toolkit for communities to address this, you’re potentially taking supply off the market that’s already incredibly stressed,’’ said Nick Taylor, executive director of the Workforce Housing Coalition of the Greater Seacoast. Without enough affordable housing in southern New Hampshire towns, “employers are having a hard time attracting employees, and workers are having a hard time finding a place to live,’’ Taylor said. However, short-term rentals also provide housing for tourists, a crucial part of the economies in places like Nantucket, Cape Cod, or the towns that make up New Hampshire’s Seacoast and Lakes Region, pointed out Ryan Castle, CEO of the Cape Cod & Islands Association of Realtors. “A lot of workers are servicing the touri st industry, and the tourism industry is serviced by those people coming in short term,’’ Castle said, “and so it’s a cyclical effect.’’Short-term rentals themselves are not the crux of the issue, said Keren Horn, an affordable housing policy expert at the University of Massachusetts Boston. “I think individuals being able to rent out their second home is a good thing. If it’s their vacation home anyway, and it’s just empty, why can’t you make money off it?’’ Horn said. Issues arise, however, when devel opers attempt to create large-scale short-term rental facilities —de facto hotels —to bypass taxes and regulations. “I think the question is, shouldn’t a developer who’s really building a hotel, but disguising it as not a hotel, be treated and taxed and regulated like a hotel?’’ Horn said.At the end of 2018, Governor Charlie Baker signed a bill to rein in those potential investor-buyers. “The bill requires every rental host to register with the state, mandates they carry insurance, and opens the potential for local taxes on top of a new state levy,’’ the Globe reported. Boston took things even further, limiting who is authorized to rent out their home, and requiring renters to register with the city’s Inspectional Services Department.Horn said similar registration requirements could benefit other strugglingcities and towns. The only way to solve the issue, however, is by creating more housing. “If we want to make a change in the housing market, the main one is we have to build a lot more.’’26.Which of the following is true of New England?答案:A. Its housing supply is at a very low level.27.The bill mentioned in the Paragraph 2 was intended to?答案:D. allow a free short-term rental market.28 . Compared with Castle, Tailor is more likely to support?答案:B in increase in a affordable housing29. What does Horn emphasize in paragraph 3?答案:C the necessity to stop developers from evading taxes.30. Horn holds that imposing registration requirements is答案:D an inadequate solution.Text 3If you’re heading for your nearest branch of Waterstones in search of the Duchess of Sussex’s new children’s book The Bench, you might have to be prepared to hunt around a bit; the same may be true of The President's Daughter, the new thriller by Bill Clinton and James Patterson. Both of these books are published next week by Penguin Random House, a company currently involved in a stand-off with Waterstones. The problem began late last year, when Penguin Random House confirmed that it had introduced a credit limit with Waterstones “at a very significant level”. The trade magazine The Bookseller reported that Waterstones branch managers were being told to remove PRH books from prominent areas such as tables, display spaces and window s, and were “quietly retiring them to their relevant sections”.PRH declined to comment on the issue, but a spokesperson for Waterstones told me: “Waterstones are currently operating with reduced credit terms from PRH, the only publisher in the UK to place any limitations on our ability to trade. We are not boycotting PRH titles but we are doing our utmost to ensure that availability for customers remains good despite the lower overall levels of stock. We do this generally by giving their titles less prominent positioning within our bookshops. “We are hopeful with our shops now open again that normality will return and that we will be allowed to buy appropriately. Certainly, our shops are exceptionally busy and book sales are very strong. The sales for our May Books of the Month surpassed any month since 2018.”In the meantime, PRH authors have been the losers - as have customers, who might expect the new titles from the country’s biggest publisher to be prominently displayed by its biggest book retailer. Big-name PRH authors may suffer a bit, but it’s those mid-list authors, who normally rely on Waterstones staff’s passion for promoting books by lesser-known writers, who will be praying for an end to the dispute. It comes at a time when authors are already worried about the consequences of the proposed merger between PRH and another big publisher, Simon & Schuster - the reduction in the number of unaligned UK publishers is likely to lead to fewer bidding wars, lower advances, and more conformity in terms of what is published. And one wonders if PRH would have been confident enough to deal with Waterstones in the way it has if it weren’t quite such a big company (it was formed with the merger of Penguin and Random House in 2013) and likely to get bigger.“This is all part of a wider change towards concentration of power and cartels. Literary agencies are getting bigger to have the clout to negotiate better terms with publishers, publishers consolidating to deal with Amazon,” says Lownie. “The publishing industry talks about diversity in terms of authors and staff but it also needs a plurality of ways of delivering intellectual contact, choice and different voices. After all, many of the most interesting books in recent years have come from small publis hers.”We shall see whether that plurality is a casualty of the current need among publishers to be big enough to take on all-comers.31. the author mentions two books in the paragraph 1 to present ____答案:A. an ongoing conflict32. Why did Waterstones shops retire PRH books to their relevant sections?答案:C. to respond to PRH's business move33. What message did the spokesman of Waterstones seem to convey?答案:A. their customers remain royal34. What can be one consequence of the current dispute?答案:A Sales of books by mid-list PRH writers fall off considerably35. Which of the following statements best represents Lownie`s view?答案:D The merger of publishers is a worrying trendText 4Scientific papers are the recordkeepers of progress in research. Each year researchers publish millions of papers in more than 30,000 journals. The scientific community measures the quality of those papers in a number of ways, including the perceived quality of the journal (as refl ected by the title’s impact factor) and the number of citations a specific paper accumulates. The careers of scientists and the reputation of their institutions depend on the number and prestige of the papers they produce, but even more so on the citations attracted by these papers. In recent years, there have been several episodes of scientific fraud, including completely made-up data, massaged or doctored figures, multiple publications of the same data, theft of complete articles, plagiarism of text, and self-plagiarism. And some scientists have come up with another way to artificially boost the number of citations to their work.Citation cartels, where journals, authors, and institutions conspire to inflate citation numbers, have existed for a long time. In 2016, researchers developed an algorithm to recognize suspicious citation patterns, including groups of authors that disproportionately cite one another and groups of journals that cite each other frequently to increase the impact factors of their publications. Recently, I cameacross yet another expression of this predatory behavior: so-called support service consultancies that provide language and other editorial support to individual authors and to journals sometimes advise contributors to add a number of citations to their articles and the articles of colleagues. Some of these consultancies are also active in organizing conferences and can advise that citations be added to conference proceedings. In this manner, a single editor can drive hundreds of citations in the direction of his own articles or those of colleagues that may be in his circle. How insidious is this type of citation manipulation? In one example, an individual—acting as author, editor, and consultant—was able to use at least 15 journals as citation providers to articles published by five scientists at three universities. The problem is rampant in Scopus, which includes a high number of the new “international” journals. In fact, a listing in Scopus seems to be a criterion to be targeted in this type of citation manipulation.36 According paragraph1, the careers of scientists can be determined by________答案:B how many times their papers are cited37 The support service consultancies tend to _________.答案:C ask authors to include extra citation38 the function of the milk cow to journals is to ________.答案:A boost citation counts for certain authors39. What can be learned about Scopus from the last two paragraph?答案:[B] It has the capability to identify suspicious citation40. What should an author do to deal with citation manipulation?答案:[D]Reveal their misconduct三、新题型考察了排序题,出题形式与往年略有差异,给出了三个既定选项位置,并给出了8个选项,首段空缺,虽然出题形式略有差异但解题思路和难度并无差异,只要能看出指代即可轻松判断出首段,整体难度中等。

我最敬佩的运动员英语作文全红婵
我最敬佩的运动员英语作文全红婵My Most Admired Athlete: Vicky Eding HuangDo you know who my biggest hero is? It's Vicky Eding Huang, the amazing American gymnast! She's so cool and talented. I've looked up to Vicky ever since I started taking gymnastics classes a few years ago. My coaches are always telling me stories about her incredible accomplishments and how hard she has worked to become one of the best gymnasts in the world.Vicky was born in Missouri in 2002. Even from a very young age, she showed an amazing amount of strength, flexibility, and determination. She first started gymnastics classes when she was just 3 years old – can you believe that? I didn't start until I was 6! Vicky's parents saw her natural athleticism and supported her love for the sport right from the beginning. As she got a little older, Vicky trained extremely hard, spending hours upon hours at the gym every single day. She sacrificed a lot of her free time that other kids use to play outside or watch TV. But Vicky's biggest dream was to make it to the Olympics, so she never complained about her tough training schedule. My mom says I should try to have that kind of discipline and work ethic! In 2016, when Vicky was just 14 years old, all of her hard work paid off in a huge way. She made the US Olympic gymnastics team and competed at the Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. She was one of the youngest gymnasts there, but she didn't let her age hold her back at all. Vicky ended up winning two gold medals – one in the team all-around competition and another on the uneven bars! How amazing is that? After her massive success in Rio, Vicky decided to turn professional rather than competing in college gymnastics. Over the next few years, she participated in lots of World Cup and World Championship events all around the globe. She racked up tons of medals and prize money. My favorite moments were when she landed insanely difficult skills that had never been done before in women's gymnastics. The crowd would go absolutely wild!Of course, Vicky's biggest goal was to make the US team again for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Unfortunately, not long before the Games were supposed to happen, they got postponed until 2021 because of the global COVID-19 pandemic.I remember being really sad when I heard the news, because I knew how hard Vicky had been training for that moment.Rather than getting discouraged though, Vicky used the extra year to make her routines even more difficult and impressive. Her determination and perseverance were remarkable. In 2021, she was named to her second Olympic team at age 19.The 2020 Tokyo Olympics was just the most exciting thing I've ever watched! Vicky competed all-around and on every single event: vault, uneven bars, balance beam, and floor exercise. She was just so consistent and fierce, hitting routine after routine without any major mistakes. In the end, Vicky captured two more gold medals, one in the team competition and another for the individual all-around final! On top of that, she also won silver medals on uneven bars and balance beam. Her Olympic medal haul of 6 golds and 2 silvers across two Games is one of the most impressive stats in gymnastics history.I have a poster of Vicky on my bedroom wall, and I look at it every night before I go to bed for inspiration. Her skills are off the charts, but what I admire most about her is her incredible work ethic, passion, and perseverance through challenges like the Olympic postponement. Vicky never gave up on her dream, and her dedication paid off in the sweetest way.Now that she's in her early 20s, Vicky has given herself a little break from competition to rest and recover. However, I've read that she might return for one more run at the 2024 Paris Olympics! How crazy would it be if she could three-peat as the Olympic all-around champion? Even if she doesn't compete again, Vicky will go down as a true gymnastics legend and an example of what can be accomplished through hard work and an unwavering pursuit of your dreams.I really look up to athletes like Vicky who pour their heart and soul into their sport. Whenever I'm feeling lazy about going to practice or struggling to learn a new skill, I think about Vicky's amazing gymnastics journey and her Olympic achievements. She inspires me to be more disciplined, to set higher goals for myself, and to never give up when things get difficult. I'll never forget watching Vicky compete and feeling so much pride, awe and happiness for her.Vicky Eding Huang is my biggest role model and the athlete I admire most. With her incredible talent, work ethic, and perseverance, she's an amazing example for young gymnasts like me. I can only hope that if I train hard enough and never stop chasing my dreams, maybe one day I can make it as far as shehas! Vicky is the G.O.A.T. (greatest of all time) and always will be my idol.。

monday even 英文歌
monday even 英文歌Monday Even: A Musical Odyssey Through the Weeks.Monday Even is an enigmatic song title that piques curiosity and imagination. It suggests a meeting or an event that takes place on a Monday, but the "Even" part adds a layer of mystery and intrigue. Could it refer to an evening event? Or is it a nod to something more profound, perhaps a secret rendezvous? The song itself, though not a widely recognized hit, could be a hidden gem in the musical landscape. It could be a ballad with a soulful melody, or a danceable tune with a catchy beat. Whatever its genre, Monday Even would be a song that tells a story, a narrative that unfolds through lyrics and music. The song might open with a gentle piano melody, setting the mood for a quiet evening. The vocals come in soft and slow, with each word carefully enunciated. The lyrics mightbegin with a description of a cityscape at night, thelights of the city twinkling against the dark sky.As the song progresses, the tempo picks up, and the instrumentation becomes more intricate. Strings and synthesizers might join the piano, creating a rich, layered soundscape. The lyrics become more emotional, possibly describing a meeting between two people who have been waiting for this moment. The bridge of the song could be a musical and emotional crescendo, with the instrumentation building to a climax. The lyrics might reach a turning point, revealing a secret or a confession. This is where the "Even" part of the title comes into play, hinting at something that happens after dark, when the world is quiet and secrets can be shared. The song then winds down, slowly returning to the gentle piano melody that began the track. The lyrics might end on a hopeful note, leaving the listener with a sense of closure and satisfaction. Or, they could leave the story hanging, leaving the listener to imagine what happens next.Monday Even could also be a song that explores themesof anticipation, excitement, and maybe even a little bit of anxiety. It could be about looking forward to a special event or encounter, the excitement of not knowing what will happen, and the nervousness of meeting someone new or embarking on a new adventure. The song could be interpreted differently by different listeners, depending on their own experiences and emotions. Some might hear it as a romantic ballad about a long-awaited rendezvous, while others might see it as a more general ode to the magic of Mondays, or evenings in general.Ultimately, Monday Even is a song that evokes a senseof mystery, excitement, and anticipation. It is a musical journey that takes the listener through a range of emotions and experiences, all wrapped up in a catchy tune and meaningful lyrics. Whether it's a hidden gem or a widely recognized hit, it's a song that deserves to be discovered and enjoyed.。

They all appeared in the first Winter Olympics.B[1]"A salamander(蝾螈) can grow back its leg. Why can't a human do the same?" asked Dr. Anthony Atala. The question, a reference to work aiming to grow new limbs for wounded soldiers, captures the inventive spirit of regenerative medicine. This innovative field seeks to provide patients with replacement body parts. These parts are not made of steel; they are the real thing—living cells, tissue, and even organs.[2]Regenerative medicine is still mostly experimental and limited to surgeries such as growing sheets of skin on burn wounds. One of its most significant advances took place in 1999.A research group successfully replaced a bladder(膀胱) with one grown in a lab. Since then, the team—led by Dr. Atala—has created a variety of other tissues and organs, from kidneys to ears.[3]The field of regenerative medicine is based on the first successful donor tissue and bone transplants done in the early 20th century. However, donor organs are not always the best option. First of all, they are in short supply. In the United States alone, more than 100,000 people are waiting for organ transplants—many people die while waiting for an available organ. Secondly, a patient's body may reject the donor organ. With regenerative medicine, however, tissues are grown from a patient's own cells and will not be rejected.[4]Today, several labs are working to create artificial body parts that are made from a patient's own cells. Scientists at Columbia University and Yale University have grown a jawbone and a lung. At the University of Minnesota, Doris Taylor has created a beating bioartificial rat heart. Dr. Atala's team has had long-term success with bioengineered bladders for young patients with spina bifida. And at the University of Michigan, H. David Humes has created an artificial kidney.[5]So far, the kidney procedure has only been used successfully with sheep. However, there is hope that one day it will be possible to implant a similar kidney in a human patient. The continuing research of scientists such as these may eventually make donor organs unnecessary. As a result, individuals may have significantly increased chances of survival.4. What does regenerative medicine refer to?A. Treating patients with gene-targeted drugs.B. Exploring the secrets for animals’ recovery.C. Providing patients with organ transplant operation.D. Growing replacement body parts with patients' own cells.5. Who might benefit most from regenerative medicine nowadays?A. Patients with deaf ears.B. Patients with broken legs.C. Patients with burnt scars.D. Patients with kidney failure.6. What is the benefit of regenerative medicine according to the text?A. Less damage to a patient’s body.B. Shorter waiting time for an available organ.C. Longer lasting than a donor organ.D. Cheaper than organ transplant surgeries.7. What does Paragraph 4 mainly tell us about regenerative medicine?A. Its breakthroughs.B. Its applications.C. Its theory.D. Its limitation.CVisual data—charts, maps, and infographics—are more prevalent than ever. Every day, we are exposed to visual data in print, in online media, and in the apps we use.Data visualization educator Alberto Cairo thinks that “words alone are not powerful enough to communicate effectively ...you also need visuals.” Visual data is most effective when there is an “aha” moment—w hen the information provides “spontaneous insight.” These visuals immediately create understanding of complex concepts. Visual data also appears to make information seem more credible. A study showed that 67 percent of participants believed information when they read it in a document without a graph. However, when a graph was included, 96 percent believed the same information. However, graphs can be misleading, especially if faulty logic is used to present information. Figure 1, for example, shows the rise and fall of the performance of athletes who appeared on the cover of Sports Illustrated magazine. The graph appears to imply there is a cause-effect relationship between two events: being on the cover of the magazine leads to poor performance afterward. In fact, athletes usually appear on magazine covers when they are at the peak of their performance. After this stage, it is most probable that athletes' performance will eventually decline. Another way charts can mislead is when a scale is inappropriate. Figure 2 illustrates the effectiveness of two drugs, and there seems to be a big difference between them. However, the difference looks greater than it really is. This is because the numbers on the vertical axis(纵轴) go only from 40 percent to 55 percent—making it look like Drug A is five times more effective than Drug B. In fact, the difference between the two drugs is only about 10 percent.Obviously, the key issue with visualization is whether the public is reliably informed. Alberto Cairo says, “when creators of visual data are balanced and honest, great visualizations change people’s mind for the better.”Figure 1: Performance of athletes before and afterappearing on the cover of Sports Illustrated magazine Figure 2: Effectiveness of Drug8. Which word can best replace the underlined word in Paragraph 1?A. Powerful.B. Effective.C. Widespread.D. Reliable.9. When is visual data most effective according to Alberto Cairo?A. When the information a graph presents is honest.B. When words alone fail to communicate effectively.C. When it makes textual information look more serious.D. When it provides quick insight into complex information.10. Why can Figure 1 result in inaccurate information?A. Because its y-axis has the misleading scale.B. Because it shows the relative success of two events.C. Because it implies an incorrect cause-effect relationship.D. Because it allows various data to be compared against an average.11. What might be the suitable title of the text?A. The Power of VisualsB. The Rise of Visual DataC. The Traps of Visual DataD. Visualizing the FutureDDoes the “office jungle” mirror behavior in the real jungle? New research shows people in offices may use conflict and cooperation in similar ways to primates(灵长类), or rather, apes in the jungle.Contrary to popular belief, conflict and aggression actually play a smaller role in the wild than cooperation. In fact, both humans and other primates are social creatures, and normally try to avoid conflict. Chimpanzees, for example, typically spend their days caring for their young and traveling together in small groups. Chimps spend about 5 percent of the day being aggressive, but 15 to 20 percent of the day cleaning each other. For humans and other primates, cooperation is a more effective way to succeed and survive. Also, people and other primates use similar social networking strategies to get ahead in life. They create tight social bonds by sharing resources, doing each other favors, building teams, and making friends. Employees with ambitious career goals, for example, often rely on powerful people in their office to help them get better jobs. In a similar way, chimps work to strengthen relationships with other chimps. They sometimes also use their cunning to get ahead. In chimps a common strategy is to break up alliances(联盟) that can be used against them. They see a main rival sitting with someone else and they try to break up that meeting.Groups of coworkers and primate groups have similar social rules. In both cases, the groups organize themselves into hierarchies(阶层), and individual members know their roles. This decides their behavior in the group. For example, young people may speak softly or avoid eye contact when they talk to people with higher status. Similarly, when chimpanzees approach a powerful or senior member, they try to make themselves look as small as they can.“We function as part of a group rather than as individuals,” the research concludes. Employees who cooperate in the office and primates who cooperate in the wild find themselves happier, more effective, and more likely to survive.12. What might the underl ined “popular belief” be?A. The animal world is full of conflict.B. Aggression plays a smaller role in the wild.C. Cooperation matters a lot to success and survival.D. Both human and other primates are social creatures.13. How can chimps reach a high position in their world?A. By building alliances.B. By making full use of resources.C. By traveling together in small groups.D. By behaving according to social rules.14. What might be the purpose of the text?A. To explain how primates and humans behave similarly.B. To argue that animals cooperate better than humans do.C. To show how humans have learned from animal behavior.D. To show why humans and other primates value cooperation.15. What might be a suitable title for the text?A. Survival StrategiesB. The Ape in the OfficeC. The Way to SuccessD. Conflict vs Cooperation第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。

Comparison of RPC and PV binding assays for R1881.
The interassay CV for the PV assay is 13% versus 6% for the RPC assay. Hence the PV assay is 2 fold more variable, which will require more replicates.

• Recommended as high priority the development of an assay using purified, recombinant full-length AR • Patent issues with hAR so an assay using an AR sequence from a species closely related to human may be necessary
