Teaching Objectives
1.Students can master the new vocabulary and phrases about art galleries and know more information about art galleries.
2.Students are able to describe the story: The Best of Manhattan's Art Galleries
3. Help students to use skimming and scanning methods to get information of each paragraph, part and passage.
4. Students can enrich friendship through group discussion and foster interest in learning English.

1.How to make students master several reading skills.
2.How to guide students to express their opinions using the information they get.

Teaching Procedures
Step1. Lead-in (5 min)
Activity1: 1).What do you often do in your holiday?
2).Have you ever been to any art gallery?
(Justification: Arouse students’ interest to art gallery and help them have some brief knowledge of art gallery.)
Step2. Pre-reading (5 min)
Skimming
Activity1: Show pictures of a map of Manhattan on PPT and ask students about what type of the passage is.
Activity2: 1). How many art galleries are introduced in the passage?
2). What and where are they?
(Justification: Help students have an overview of the distribution of these 5 art galleries and to train students’ skimming skills .)
Step3. While reading (10 min)
1) Scanning
Activity1: Ask Students to read the passage for the first time, and match the numbers on the map with the names of the museums.
Activity2:1). What’s the main idea of this passage?
The passage introduces some best art galleries of Manhattan.
2). Who do you think the text was written for?
Tourists and art gallery visitors.
2) Detailed reading
Activity1: Ask the Students to read part1 and answer the question.

Activity3: Ask the Students to read part3&4 and answer the questions.

Activity2: Group work. Ask students to discuss in groups, and share their opinions.
Which of the five galleries would you choose to visit? Why?
Activity3: Language points.
(Justification:Provide sentence structures and phrases to help them have a better and more fluent discussion and to improve students’ ability to express their own opinions. Through discussion, students can get to know the basic actions of using their knowledge to help others in trouble. Besides, the friendship among them can be enhanced.)
Step5. Homework (2 min)
Ask student to write a passage no less than 50 words to introduce their favorite gallery.
(Justification: By doing so, their writing ability will be enhanced and also words and expressions will be further practiced.)。
