When you're a child, making friends does not seem to be so hard. Though the young can sometimes be very mean creatures(吝啬的人), if we're lucky enough, we can make really good friends. When we grow up, we see them as old friends.
There are many friends that will come into your life—some you lose touch with, though you don't really want to, some you choose to no longer be friends with. But your old friends, no matter(无论) how near or far they are, are still part of your life.
From old friends we learn how much we grow. They witness(见证) everything, from the greatest moments in life to our smallest mistakes, to the moments we're least proud of. They sometimes make us do better. And we know that if we're happy with who we've become, they play an important part on that way.
There is a freedom(自由) that comes with old friends but newer friendships can sometimes fail to bring. You don't need to make them understand you because they do, you don't need to change a little bit to make them love you better. There is a great comfort(安慰) that you know a friend has loved you for a long time; and that this person will go on loving you anyway.
With old friends there is often great laughter about the shared history of your pasts. There are solemn memories(庄严的记忆) of the difficult times that you go through.
With old friends, you realize(意识到) true friendships are difficult to build, to make it grow, and to hold onto. And the feeling of having a friend long enough to call them an 'old friend', is wonderful.
Old friends hold a mirror in front of us and make us see how far we've come, and how far we still have to go to be the person we can be. They tell us that the past was both good and bad, and the future is something to look forward to. No matter how time flies, when we're with them, we have a feeling of home—a place where we can be stupid with people who love us.
23. Which of the following is true according to Paragraph 2?
A. Children are always lucky.
B. We never lose any friends.
C. Old friends are always part of our life.
D. It's hard for a child to make new friends.
24. From the passage, we know that _______.
A. real old friends make our life always stay the same
B. children are mean creatures to make friends with
C. old friends can give us a warm home to live in
D. not everyone is lucky enough to have old friends
25. What does the underlined sentence 'we can be stupid with people who love us' mean?
A. We hope we are together with our friends when we are stupid.
B. Our friends like us the way we are so we feel free to be ourselves.
C. Our old friends have a lot of good memories with us.
D. Our old friends like us to be stupid all the time.
