Unit 1: Making Friends.
Grade Level: Eighth Grade.
Subject: English.
Objectives:
Students will be able to understand spoken and written English about meeting new people and making friends.
Students will be able to communicate effectively in English in a variety of social situations, including meeting new people and making friends.
Students will be able to demonstrate cultural awareness and sensitivity by understanding and respecting the customs and perspectives of other cultures.
Materials:
Textbook: Any eighth-grade English textbook that includes a unit on making friends.
Whiteboard or chart paper.
Markers.
Sticky notes.
Handouts.
Music player.
Music.
Procedure:
Warm-up (5 minutes)。
Begin the lesson by asking students to think about a
time when they met someone new.
Have students share their experiences with the class.
Introduction (10 minutes)。
Introduce the topic of the unit: making friends.
Ask students to define the word "friend."
Discuss the different qualities that make a good friend.
Listening Comprehension (15 minutes)。
Play a short audio recording of a conversation about meeting new people and making friends.
Ask students to listen for key information, such as the setting, the characters, and the main idea.
After listening, have students answer comprehension
questions about the recording.
Speaking Practice (15 minutes)。
Divide students into small groups.
Give each group a scenario in which they must meet someone new and introduce themselves.
Have the groups practice their introductions.
Monitor the groups and provide feedback as needed.
Reading Comprehension (15 minutes)。
Distribute a short article about making friends.
Have students read the article independently.
After reading, have students answer comprehension questions about the article.
Writing Practice (15 minutes)。
Have students write a paragraph about a time when they made a new friend.
Encourage students to use descriptive language and vivid imagery.
Collect and review the paragraphs.
Culture Corner (10 minutes)。
Discuss the cultural differences in making friends.
