人教版八年级下册英语期末复习:阅读理解练习题1
Computers can injure you. Most other injuries happen suddenly. For example, if you fall off a bicycle and break your arm, it happens very quickly. But computer injuries happen slowly.
Your eyes
Too much light can injure your eyes, so never sit too close to a computer screen. Your eyes should be at least 50 centimeters from the screen. Remember to look away from it sometimes. This gives your eyes a rest.
When you use a computer, the window should be on your left or your right. If it is behind you, the light will reflect(反射)on the screen. If the windows are in front of you, the sun and the screen will both shine into your eyes.
Your hands and wrists(手腕)
Hand and wrist injuries can happen because the hands and wrists are moved in the same way hundreds of times. If you use a keyboard for a long time, follow these three rules:1)Rest your wrists on something. 2)Keep your elbows at the same height as the keyboard. 3)Stop sometimes and exercise your hands, wrists and fingers in a different way.
Your back
Some people sit for many hours in front of a computer. If you sit in a wrong way, you can injure your back or your neck. So you should sit with your back straight. The top part of the screen should be in front of your eyes. Your forearms(前臂), wrists and hands should all be parallel to (与……平衡)the floor. If you are sitting for a long time, get up every 30 minutes and exercise your arms, legs and neck.
Enjoy your computer, but use it safely.

I love my mother, but when it comes to shopping for clothes, my mother and I have always disagreed on what fits me well.
Perhaps it’s because of our age difference, but to me, if it zips(用拉锁拉上), it fits. My mum, however, usually tells me I need a bigger size.
When I was a teenager, I wanted to dress like my friends, but my body size made it impossible. When my mom told me that something didn’t suit me, or I needed a bigger size, all I heard was that my body was wrong.
To avoid arguments(争吵), we stopped going shopping together. This continued until I got engaged(订婚)last year and needed to find a wedding dress and some clothes for my honeymoon.
As I came out of the fitting room, my mother looked at the top(上衣)I was trying on, and I knew what was coming, “You need a bigger size,” she said.
There was no bigger size. I put the top back and tried to hold back my tears. If we couldn’t agree on this, how were we going to survive shopping for a wedding dress?
Maybe I should just buy it alone, but my mom is my role model and my favourite person to go out with. This idea of looking for a wedding dress without her seemed as scary(可怕的)as taking her with me.
And so the day came. As I tried on a simple white dress, I saw tears in my mom’s eyes. “You look beautiful”, she told me. Nothing could have surprised me more.
This one didn’t zip up at the back and I did actually need a bigger size, but my mother didn’t say that. She just told me how beautiful I looked. At that moment, all those arguments we’d had while shopping in the past disappeared. We didn’t buy a dress that day. We decided to see more.
A few weeks and many shopping trips later, we found the perfect dress. We both loved it as soon as I put it on, and I couldn’t wait to wear it at my wedding.
And during those few weeks, mom and I also found the perfect fit for our shopping
relationship.

For thousands of years, people have lived with dogs. Ancient paintings on the walls of caves show people living with dogs. In each county, dogs come in a wide variety of shapes and sizes.
The largest dog in the world was Zorba, a huge mastiff (獒,大驯犬) that passed away in 1990. When Zorba was seven years old in 1989, he was 94 centimeters (37 inches) tall. In other words, Zorba was more than half as tall as an adult man. At his largest, Zorba weighed more than a heavyweight boxer at 156 kilograms (343 pounds).
In comparison, the smallest dog ever was a Yorkshire terrier named Sylvia from England. This dog only the size of a matchbox, measuring just over six centimeters (2.5 inches) tall and just under nine centimeters (3.5 inches) from nose to tail. The dog weighed about half as much as this book, and even a young child could easily pick it up with one hand. It died in 1945 when it was only two
Some dogs are remarkable, not for their size, but for their brain. One incredible dog is Endal, the companion of a man named Allen Parton, who has used a wheelchair since a car accident in 1991.
In 2001, Parson was hit by a car, while crossing a road with Endal, and thrown out of his chair. Endal quickly moved Parton into the recovery position, covered him with a blanket, and pushed his mobile phone close enough for him to reach. Then, once he saw that Parton was all right, Endal ran back and forth to a nearby hotel, barking until people came out to help.
Endal was rewarded for his bravery by being awarded a medal, and he has been the subject of a number of TV documentaries.

I often dreamed about Pisa when I was a boy. I read about the famous building called the Leaning Tower of Pisa. But when I read the word Pisa, I was thinking of pizza. I thought this tower was a place to buy pizza. It must be the best place to buy pizza in the world, I thought.
Many years later I finally saw the Leaning Tower. I knew then that it was Pisa, not pizza. But there was still something special about it for me. The tower got its name because it really leans to one side. Some people want to try to fix it. They are afraid it may fall over and they don’t like it leans over the city.
I do not think it’s a good idea to try to fix it. The tower probably will not fall down because it is 600 years old. Why should anything happen to it now? And, if you ask me, like what it looks like. To me it is a very human kind of leaning. Nothing is perfect. And who cares? Why do people want
things to be perfect? Imperfect things may be more interesting. Let’s take the tower in Pisa for example. Why is it so famous? There are many other older, more beautiful towers in Italy, but Pisa tower is the most famous. People come from all over the world to see it.

My mother is a teacher, and I grew up with the challenges a teacher faces. I often asked her, “Why do you teach? What keeps you teaching?” The answer was always the same. “There is always that one child, that one moment that is worth.
Now, I am a teacher, too. But different from my mother, I teach students challenging activities outdoors. And when my mother asked me the similar questions, my answer was “it’s that one child, that one special moment.”
One of those moments happened recently. I was working with a group of girls in a four-week programme. Everything went on well through the “Team” events and we were moving on to a “High” one called the Wire(钢索)walk.
In the Wire Walk, each girl had to climb up the pegs(木桩)in a tree to a wire, 8 meters high, and then walk across it. Of course, everything was safe for sure.
When I asked who would try, a few girls raised their hands, and they finished the Wire Walk with little difficulty.
But when it was Susie’s turn, it seemed that she didn’t really want to. I asked Susie if she was ready. She answered softly, “I suppose.”
Now, Susie was at the foot of the tree. She started to make the long reach for the first peg. The other girls cheered for her. Then I found Susie was becoming nervous with every step. I realized she
would not go much further.
Susie was halfway up. Then she stopped and held the tree tight, looking very afraid. Her eyes were closed. With her face against the tree, she cried, “I can’t.”
The other girls sat in silence. I talked quietly to Susie, trying to relax her. I talked for a long time till I ran out of words.
“I will still be your friend no matter what, Susie!” Mary broke the silence.
To my surprise, Susie lifted her head and looked up to the wire. Then she turned to look down at Mary and smiled. Mary smiled back.
Finally, Susie made it all the way across that wire. When she returned to the ground, the first hug she looked for was from ________.
We all cheered.
Moments like this keep me doing what I do. The young hearts continue to fill me with courage. 30.Susie stopped halfway up to the wire because ________.
A.the teacher asked her to do it B.something was wrong with it
C.she was too afraid to move on D.it was too high for her to reach
31.From the story of Susie and Mary, we can learn that ________.
A.helping others is helping ourselves B.a word of encouragement can help a lot C.outdoor activities bring people closer than ever D.a good teacher plays an important role in teaching
32.Which is the most possible answer on the line?
A.my mother B.me C.Mary D.her mother 33.Which of the following can be the best title for the passage?
A.That One Moment B.The Wire Walk C.Love and Courage D.The Young Hearts
